Simply Put, A Great Pop Album
Great music!Shades Apart falls under the 'Hardcore Punk' genre of today's music and I have to agree. I have just recently been purchasing music that are along the lines of Shades Apart, Weezer, and Creed (as opposed to my obsession with Queen). I remember hearing the song 'Valentine' a few years back and all that stuck in my head was the chorus lyrics. I typed in "Valentine" on search engines and finally found the band that produced such a wonderful song. 'Valentine', along with 'Stranger by the Day' and 'Chasing Daydreams' are my top three songs on this album. It truly stands all by itself in originality and poise. The riffs and lyrics are truly poetic, but still has that head-banging, foot-thumping pulse that rides along with it. Great album to blast in your car! I strongly, strongly recommend it.
Eyewitness to great musicI found Shades Apart by accident. I lost a radio contest in 2000 and was awarded a consolation prize of a t-shirt and 2 cd's. One of them happened to be "Eyewitness"
It was summer, and I rolled my windows down, opened the sunroof and listened to the whole album. Shades Apart brings me to a carefree sing-along mood. I love this album, and I'm here at amazon today to buy the others!

All those folks who contemptuously dismiss today's mainstream country and wish they could have been around for the heyday of Lefty Frizzell and Buck Owens are missing the boat. Right now, right in front of us, the Frizzell-like George Strait and Owensesque Dwight Yoakam are quietly assembling two of the great careers in country music history. Further evidence is now available in the form of Yoakam's second greatest-hits package (the first, Just Lookin' for a Hit, collected his 10 best singles from 1986-89). The new collection gathers 11 of his 13 Top 40 country hits from 1991-96 (strangely omitting "Nothing's Changed Here" and "Try Not to Look So Pretty") and adds three new songs. The new ones are good ones--Yoakam gives the ballad "Thinking About Leaving," cowritten with Rodney Crowell, a striking low-note guitar riff; he makes Waylon Jennings's "I'll Go Back to Her" even more traditional than it was; and he lends Queen's rockabilly romp, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," an authenticity it never had. Yoakam is living proof that it's still possible to combine commercial success and artistic achievement in country. --Geoffrey Himes

The Real Cowboy!!How can you not like Dwight.
I'm not a huge country fan, actually I don't enjoy the genre much, but Dwight Yoakam is great.
His songs are catchy and his songwriting briiliant. He NEVER sounds like some sappy cowboy singing cheesy lyrics about lost love or drinking with buddies out in some hick tavern.
Total toe-tapping music that forces you to have a good time. His whole catalogue of records are worth buying, but if you want to save a few bucks, get this one and be prepared to be totally satisfied!!!
Trust me. Have I ever lied to you before??????!!!!

Good collectionAs the title says, it's a collection of "90's Dwight songs. While I'm not a big fan of "Best Of...." albums, this is definately worthwhile for new Dwight listeners. Of course, the two previously unreleased tracks are just as good as the assortment of radio-played hits they accompany. "I'll Go Back to Her" is absolutely stone cold, tried & true, country, and may be the best track on the album? A+
A thousand miles to somewhere!Dwight Yoakam gives us the best of his millennium in this collection of his greatest hits. The clever title is a clue to the excellence of this country western gem. One hopes his second millennium is as much fun as the first.

Four years of it and I still can't get enough!!!!!!!!!!! I've had this cd for four years now and I still listen to it every day. For a live album, this one is awesome! Most live albums are not good. This is totaly opposite. LISTEN TO THE HIDDEN TRACK ON "EVERY NEW DAY"!!!
Five Irons Gratest CD Ever! This Was My First Five Iron CD my second was Chesses of Nazareth. When I first listened to One Girl Army, Oh, Canada, A Flowery Song, Dandilions, Suckerpunch, ansd so on I fell in love with Five Irons sound and had to get all of there cds. There one of my favorite bands and if you haven't got this cd i would highly recomend it. It has the awsomest mix of Five Irons early songs. Which I think are the best.I would give this cd 10 stars but they won't let me.
Five Iron Frenzy Rules!
Five Iron Frenzy Rules!
The Quintessential Five Iron? PerhapsFive Iron Frenzy makes a solid compilation of some of their best songs with the release of this live album, which will delight die-hard fans of the Denver ska-core ensemble and curious listeners alike. One of the things that has always set Five Iron Frenzy apart from other groups in their genre has been their unique stage presence and sense of humor, (which encludes dressing as the cast of Star Trek and crowd surfing a giant pinata filled with chili across their crowd) and these qualities are shown in this album. However, apart from the outrageously entertaining gimmicks of their live preformances, Five Iron Frenzy also offers fine musicianship and songwriting which is played out with even more energy than their studio records. These aspects distinguish the band from their contemporaries and make for an exillarating live experience. In short, Five Iron is a dish best experienced live, but this album is the next best thing (and is sadly the only thing available after the band announced their breakup in late November of 2003.)

GREAT GREAT GREATWOW! What a refreshing treat! One of the most enjoyable albums that I have heard in a while. GET IT NOW!
Also, I highly highly recommend the promotional album "12 Sonngs" Its kind of rare, but you must get your hands on it (if you can). I don't know if they are still around(definately not in any stores), but I did see them on eBay. Try eBay, and if that fails, look for a friend who knows people in the band. They might be able to help you out. Good Luck! Get this and "12 Songs" now!

Searching for new albums..What a forgotten gem this is. But in someways I know that this album is in the hands of people who enjoy music and weren't looking for the next fad.
Moonpools' major label debut "Lucky Dumpling" is a truly amazing album that will instantly click with a listener. The production on this album is superb. Each song...one after another is pure pop with guitars and drums and will rock you.
The vocals are reminiscent of all the 90s female powerhouses; Alanis Morissette, Dolores O'Riordan... but the lead singer combines them all to create her own sound, which is amazing in deed.
Every song is standout so no need to mention any particular songs. BUY THIS NOW!

One of the best pop albums ever recorded....I first heard the song "Hear" and loved it...I discovered that the band was playing a outdoor show at a Denver Labor Day event so I went and was amazed...A fantastic and completely underappreciated and overlooked band and CD....I will say that this is one of my top 10 CD's ever....Fun, catchy, summertime pop from a real band...No lip-synch, Ashlee Simpson crap..This was a great band that deserved to become big....Too bad that never happened but this CD is one I will always have in my collection and play regularly ...It always brings a smile to my face!!!!!!!!

The 1984 follow-up to R.E.M.'s brilliantly murky debut features Michael Stipe's ambiguous moan, drummer Bill Berry's strong backbeat, and guitarist Peter Buck's endless wave of catchy, jangling riffs. They wouldn't fully beef up their hard rock until roughly 1986's Life's Rich Pageant, but the swimming melodies of "Pretty Persuasion," "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)" and "Rockville (Don't Go Back To)" recall why the band frequently earned comparisons to a power-pop Beatles and the country-rock Byrds. Also, the jittery rhythms and deceptively simple guitar lines make the underappreciated "Harborcoat" and "7 Chinese Bros." worth revisiting. --Steve Knopper

Fine Early Album!Judged from this second R.E.M. album from 1984 their general style hasn't changed very much over the years. The sound on this early album is not as slick as recent years R.E.M. but Stipe's voice sound almost like it does today.
Their songwriting was quite good from the beginning and some of their strongest early songs can be found on this album. The beatiful melancholy ballad "Camera" along with the droning "Time After Time" are favourites on an album where most tracks are actually quite up-beat.
The album opens with 4 songs fast songs which may appear a little too similar; but "7 Chinese Brothers" and "South Central Rain" soon became other favourites of mine.
The shamelessly catchy country-rocker "Rockville" is another song that has to brought forward. Though the production of the song is raw and slightly demo-like, it's the song that most people seem to fall for first.
Compared to most albums of today the playing time is quite short; unless of course you find the version with bonus-tracks.

Time After Time After TimeGoing through midlife and assessing some of my music collection.
There is a feeling of my youth that swirls around the early-mid eighties that I can barely feel anymore, save for the catalyst of music. The anticipation of a new REM album was part of all that. After Murmur quite literally changed my musical life, the release of Reckoning was very exciting and lived up to expectations.
It was music that not only transformed me personally but the music scene as a whole.
REM is still around, and I am a longstanding fan. But now I feel a bit more awkward as a defender of the faith. Am I simply clouded by joyful memories of bygone years? I don't think so...I do have all the new stuff, too.
REM's side projects, social causes, befriending new bands seem to take the spotlight over new, meaningful music.
Nothing has taken the place of REM's IRS label years.
Thank you, Sally, for the memories, and giving me this lp for my 22nd birthday.

Another amazing R.E.M. record - you'll find it to be very hard NOT to love this!R.E.M. is definitely one of the most talented artists to ever emerge in the music scene, and "Reckoning" is only further proof of this. With "Reckoning", R.E.M. essentially disregarded all previous post-punk efforts that were found on their debut album "Murmur" in favor of a jangle pop sound that was unique at the time (i.e. they invented it). Perhaps they did not know it then, but this sound would be forever copied by future generations of bands as it's an incredibly pleasing and distinct guitar style (bands like The Ocean Blue and Trembling Blue Stars, for example, noticably rip it off). As is common with basically every R.E.M. album, everything about the album is perfect (minus the production which needs a remastering) - the vocals, the lyrics, the musicianship...you can tell that these people are incredibly talented. Michael Stipe is an especially key aspect of the band as he's basically a third of what makes it all so great - he definitely has one of the best and most appealing voice in the music industry. I'm pretty sure that everyone in the world will love him. The other reasons why this is such a great album is that every song here is good-if-not-amazing, and the lyrics are always deep, catchy and interesting to listen to - a band couldn't possibly ask for more. The only "unappealing" part of the album is that it never had a hit (as opposed to "Document", "Out Of Time" and "Automatic For The People", for example). Also, unfortunately, the production sounds a bit dated as this CD is in dire need of a remastering - it's not horrible, but you can tell that it needs to be fixed up. Not only is this an historically influential album (for the jangle pop), but it's great without you even knowing about its history. Fans of pop rock, R.E.M. or great music in general will no doubt love this CD along with most other R.E.M. albums! Absolutely recommended!

Deltas 'Innocent Eyes'.....Delta's sweet first album definately is innocent, and through her eyes, every thing on this album is real...lets look at it track by track:
1. Born To Try: The Inspring song that most people know, and definately a good song to get you going no matter who or who you are, will inspire you...
2. Innocent Eyes: A great song about Keeping and Wanting that innocent and having that excited approach to EVERYTHING, the piano solo in the middle is real fave for me, its talking about he growing up and showing her talent to everyone, definately beautiful FUN song!! (Kind of like Sweet Sixteen by Hilary Duff)
3. Not Me, Not I: The first real heart-break track on this CD, addictive like its nobodys besiness and it has a edge to it that emotionally presses all the buttons, the middle part again has this really broken feeling, she sings her heart out on this track!!
4. Throw It Away: The first Real True Poppy almost Country track on the album, its a first love for me, its got its own sound yet it appeals to everyone, its a vengeful track and a natural progression for Not Me...
5. Lost Without You: The SONG That Made Me A Fan, the video rocks its a classic love-lost song, but can relate to everything, the lyrics a top notch and it has a magic classic sound, her voice shines on this version, the intro also carries itself, its just a CLASSIC!!
6. Predictable: this is a Rocky Delta, taking over now, this could've fit on Mastaken Identity. it has the same magical thing that Throw It Away has, is a fun strong down to earth, beautiful track and a natural progression to the next track..
7. Butterfly: Beautiful Piano, Beautiful Vocals, The intro again wins you over, it has an innocent to it that Innocent eyes doesn't have, it is a love song, similar to Will You Fall For Me, a classic, has a real sweetness to it!
8. In My Own Time: This a ballad about growing up, simple music, inspiring, simple piano and Delta arrangment, a natural progression, it definately can be played when your feeling down,
'In My Own Time I'll Take A Chance In My Own Time I'll Find Romance' is the major idea of the song, i just feel for it more, Relatable to anyone!!
9. My Big Mistake: This song like Predictable could fit on either album and has a fun element to it, dispite the fact its about love-lost and though it doesn't say it why (Cheating), its a pleading song, its definately upbeat in comparison with other tracks on here!!
10. This Is Not Me: This song is similar to In My Own Time but its more faster and it talks about being confused about who you are and not feeling right and not listening to yourself vaguely simple arrangment, her vocals on this track is sweet and soft, and feel natural!
11. Running Away: This song fits on Mastaken Identity too, its this albums answer to Disiorientated, about running away to figure yourself out and find what you want and dreaming about being free, really chaotic in this context of the album, but its definately calm to a degree....
12. A Year Ago Today: This track is a sweet song about losing someone and on the annversary looking back and thinking about that (Extraordinary) day. sweet song, really down to earth..
13. Longer: Fun track, one of the most poppy tracks on this album, has its own idea, its not a stick-out but again it has its memorable momants...the piano intro fits the song in context alot too!!
14. Will You Fall For Me: This is a classic love song, most people will relate to it and it it really beautiful to me, its about a crush, and wondering Will You Fall For Me?? beautiful simple In My Own Time kind of production, really worth it in end and a final beautiful finish to this album!!
Innocent Eyes is a great album that desearves a place in all CD collections cause it has its own sound and will fit anyone CD Collection and it is great for you, any way don't you want the original Delta album!!
Love,
Katy

Just so beautiful...Every Pop Fan should have this! What a beautiful, heartfelt, emotional touching debut album, from such a sweet talented singer who could become the OZ Celine Dion and more - Delta easily leaves Kylie & Co behind, and is no Britney sorry - As Delta without needing to take the clothes of like Brit, can sing, and Britney not. This Album should be on every Pop Fan shelves - She is hot, and dont let the "Neighbours" Tag fool you, she got professional Classical Music and Singing background, where untalented wanabes like Britney/Jessica Simpson have not, and she writes her own songs, many dont. So please if you've not already got it, buy it now...This so talented GIRL is so good...I seen her at a concert, she just rocks one of the best concert I've seen, and Delta pulls it off no sweat! (Minus that jucky Brian stuff obviously) ...SO please Buy this Album Innocent Eyes now, you cant go wrong! :)
Up-Beat, Emotional, Overall An Amazing Debut.Delta Goodrem first made an impact on Australia when she appeared in a soap opera called Neighbours. Since then she has become the biggest pop star since Kylie Minogue. She has even surpassed old chart records that Kylie held and this album shows off her voice and writing talent. So why is it so good?
1. Born To Try: The lead single cemented her as an artist to watch. The song was huge in the UK and raced into the top 3. This song is a great opener to this album and shows off her superb vocal range. The song really gets caught in your head.
2. Innocent Eyes: Another single and hit but what makes this song is the reflection on her childhood. The song is rather poetic which is basically also shown throughout the whole album. The way she interprets the song is great and the chorus is really catchy.
3. Not Me, Not I: A ballad with punch. This song shows off Delta on the whole. If you could judge her based on one song, this song would be it. The title is really good.
4. Throw It Away: In my opinion this should have be released as a single rather than Lost Without You. This is the first guitar orientated song on the album and provides a good balance.
5. Lost Without You: The worst single released from this album, however it is a great song and has a wicked drum beat that works well with the piano. In this song she admits that she was wrong and realizes her mistake. Overall a superb song.
6. Predictable: One of the best songs on this album, never released with a proper video. The video has Delta live in concert. Really quite angsty and rock orientated sounds coming through on this track.
7. Butterfly: This is a rather sympathetic song and though it isn't that strong it has a rather nice chorus. Good vocals.
8. In My Own Time: This track is a spectacular ballad with lots of emotion. You may think that this album may be boring with all the ballads however it really isn't. The song sounds a bit country-ish.
9. My Big Mistake: My Big Mistake sounds like it could've come off her sophomore album Mistaken Identity. The song is really fast though not crazily fast. Just fast compared to the other songs.
10. This Is Not Me: Again Delta proves that she can write great songs and you just have to listen to this song to really love it.
11. Running Away: This song has alot of programming at the start and is about running away. The chorus is the best on the album.
12. A Year Ago Today: This track is a bit slow and boring and sounds a little like Will You Fall For Me but it's okay I guess.
13. Longer: Has a great motif at the start with strings and is the last up-beat song on the album before the closing song. I really like this song for reasons I don't know. The lyrics are good.
14. Will You Fall For Me: It is a really good song until the chorus which isn't as good as the verses. This song means alot to me and I can relate with some of the songs. Nice close.
Innocent Eyes is a stunning piece of work, while not as good as her sophomore it sure is really amazing. This album shows why it sold 1 million copies worldwide and hopefully will show her off to the world. This is a gripping debut that will astound you.

Any similarities that Queens of the Stone Age may have to Kyuss are probably inevitable--all three members of this group were in Kyuss at one time or another. The intention of this band, however, is not to create Kyuss 2, but to make its own brand of noise. Falling somewhere between Can and Canned Heat, the trio brings an occasional electronic aura to the guitar-based chug of stoner rock. While not as brash and earsplitting as their previous band (singer-guitarist Josh Homme--a Jack Bruce sound-alike--lays back where Kyuss frontman John Garcia would have yelped), these guys have made a debut album that is nevertheless an intriguing, aggressive, trippy aural journey that bows down to no trend. --Janiss Garza

Prototype debutUshering in their fuzzed up alt/psych sound that would singularly define them, this is more of a distillation in their sleazy yet gorgeous, simple but elegant, style of that cooool rock then anything else they have worked on. This is the unadulterated foundation to which all their sucessive albums further experimented on, and for better and worse the album succeeds on those merits. Packing the largest direct punch from the bands most earnest delivery, songs do also tend to wear thin when they drone in the wrong areas. While their sound is based in repetition, and in particular the drone of the deep distorted electric guitar, the band only can accentuate that vibe about half the time that they try here. Other tracks that try harder at uptempo rocking detracts the band from finding their groove.
one of the top 5 debut's i've ever heard (4.5 stars)all that needs to be said is that these songs are freaking awesome! josh's voice is absolutely perfect on this one. not like it isn't on all of the others, but it really stands out here. the only reason why i give this 4.5 stars is that "you would know" bores the hell out of me. it's cool to have heard it once or twice, but it's annoying just for the sake of being annoying. release it on a 7", but don't put it on your full length!! also, the end of this definately isn't as good as the beginning.
anyway...next to the mars volta this is arguablly the best band around right now (depending on how good the new tool is i'll be able to have a definitive answer).
regular john - 5/5 fantastic opener to a fantastic cd.
avon - 5/5 i absolute love the drum beat at the beginning of this song! after the intro it just goes into a hard hitting rock song that is catchy as hell! totally awesome!
if only - 6/5 i can't get over how awesome the chorus to this song is! josh's voice sounds SO GOOD!! i'm seriously suprised that radio stations haven't started playing this with all of QOTSA new found success.
walkin on the sidewalks - 4/5 definately doesn't have the drive that the previous 3 songs have. it's still great but doesn't really fit as well as everything else before it.
you would know - 2/5 boring as hell. really really repetitive and really annoying. this song shouldn't have made it to the final LP.
how to handle a rope - 5/5 typical QOTSA rock! just a fantastic riff with terrific drumming. josh sounds like a god amongst men on this.
mexicola - 6/5 OH MY GOD!! this is a really good song. it took me a while to realize how much i love this one too. this is probablly the most "stoner" of all of the songs on here. i really could picture this being a kyuss song. really long intro with this totally epic riff that goes into this super catchy verse and chorus. probablly one of my favorite queens of the stone age songs.
hispanic impressions - 3/5 i could take or leave this. this is an instrumental that revolves around one riff played in two different keys. definately has some great guitar playing and i'm really more into it about half way through, but then it goes back into that same riff that it started out with. sounds like this is something that the band used to warm up with and just decided to throw on the album.
you can't quit me baby - 5/5 one of those slower jams that became much more prevalent on later albums. definately a great song that you could totally make out to.
give the mule what he wants - 4/5 dual vocals, awesome riffage. definately hinting at waht rated r would sound like.
i was a teenage hand model - 3/5 not a very good closer. sort of boring. it sort of sucks that this album doesn't close all that well. oh well, it was only their first!

There is always cause for concern when a promising new artist follows up a solid debut with a live album rehashing all the same material. After seeing Erykah Badu steal the "Smokin Grooves Tour" summer of 1996, however, it only makes sense that her record company decided to release Live as a stopgap between her next studio recording. To put it mildly, the Badu live experience is anything but typical. There is a kindred bond between the singer and her audiences which translates wonderfully onto the disc. It's in the warmth of the songs, the intimacy with which Badu addresses the crowd, and the constant chants of "Erykah!" emanating from the masses. For her part, Badu does a wonderful job revisiting the material from her superb debut Baduizm. She also takes on an assortment of covers, ranging from Roy Ayers's "Searching" to the Mary Jane Girls' "All Night Long," making each one sound distinctly her own. The most captivating moment, though, is a new number called "Tyrone," in which she most eloquently tells a dense boyfriend to take a hike. --Aidin Vaziri

Ignore reviewer luke, this is LIVE!!!!!!!Just wanted to point-out to those of you out there who are hesitant to purchase this because of the god-awful review by (luke).
What I'm reading from reviewer (Luke) about this gem is that he's reading the final credit's and coming to a false conclusion & totally overlooking the most obvious point that there are two recording crew's on this project. It's almost laughable that amazon let his review exploit falsehood's to us buyer's of real music.
(First)ofcourse is (The Live Recording & in-house Mixing Crew) which is stated (on the disc itself mind you) the vocal's(front & back)/instrument's/band & the wonderfully captured particapation of the audience which to me is just as important as the muisc in this case becasue the whole vibe is perfectly in sync.
(Second) is the Sony Music Stuido he's is talking about where they proceed(just like any other live show) with the final mixdown of this timeless (LIVE) cd.
This is the smoothess Live cd of 97'no doubt. Come on luke relax baby and don't mess with the structure and authentcity of grown folk's music, this is the real deal yah...

Fans of good music will love this CD, regardless of their musical preferences.I've never been a big hip hop/R&B fan, but this CD is amazing. Some favorites of mine include "Searching," "Apple Tree" and "Other Side of the Game." One song that stands out is "On and On," which segues into a discussion about cyphers and Egypt, only to flow into "Apple Tree." "Tyrone" appears on the CD twice, once live and once as studio track. The live track is great, but the studio version is out of place on a live album. I understand the studio version was intended to be the single to promote the album, but it doesn't flow well with the live material. I didn't like the finale "Next Lifetime" either. It's a great song, but Miss Badu stretches it out for 15 minutes to finish the show in a dramatic gesture, which by that point is unnecessary. All in all it's a great CD, and it encouraged me to check out other Erykah Badu music, and I haven't been disappointed. This is an artist who will stand the test of time and isn't going anywhere soon.
that voice !Get this for only two reasons. The live vocals of Ms Badu are as soulful as any to come in the last twenty years ( and her band ain't bad either - tight and full of da funk). The bonus is the inclusion of the extended studio version of Tyrone, perhaps the best kiss off I've ever heard.
