Alternative Rock music review Suggestion
This band truly is the bomb, it sucks that this is the only CD they put out before breaking up. If you like Pet, check out Trip 66.

Alternative Rock music review Perfect!
I have had this cd for several years now (bought it from a used cd store after hearing it at a friend's house). Lisa Papineau has the most beautiful, melodic voice, which jumps sensationally between whisper-soft and full-throttle screaming in the same song. I will forever worship that ability in her. It is the most incredible thing to hear. The guitar is loud and hard and rough and perfectly compliments Lisa's voice. The drums drive the album though. They're very tribal, and really get you worked up when listening. I've *never* heard an album with more emotion or energy, and wish this band could have stuck together. This cd will blow your mind!

Alternative Rock music review Pet :(
Thanks person from MN about the info from air and big sir
unfortunatly she appears to do backup vocals.
Hmm i wonder if responding to fan mail to these bands lisa would actually read some suggesting her to go back to her old school music ...
damn i need more material from them.

Know any other bands with similar groove ?

another great band that broke up was FAR
now either one line drawing or revolution smile

Miller's tenure as lead guitarist with Emmylou Harris's backing band, Spyboy, influenced Poison Love, the follow-up to his 1995 debut. Harris and Spyboy's rhythm section (drummer Brady Blade and bassist Daryl Johnson) chime in on several tracks, and a more adventurous musical approach is apparent on such songs as "100 Million Little Bombs." But the heart and soul of Miller's work remains simple, well-crafted country tunes, whether they be ones cowritten with his wife Julie (the stunning ballad "Don't Tell Me" and the twangy acoustic ditty "Love Grows Wild") or well-chosen covers (the George Jones/Roger Miller Chestnut "Nothing Can Stop Me" and Otis Redding's old soul classic "That's How Strong My Love Is"). --Peter Blackstock

Alternative Rock music review Worth Every Note!
Again....Buddy Miller!!
"Little Bombs" and "That's How Strong My Love Is" are outstanding!!
Buy It and Love It!!

Alternative Rock music review Buddy Miller is one of the best.
From start to finish this album is one of the best I have heard in quite some time. Buddy is a fine songwriter, exquisit guitar player and a great singer. He plays with some of the best in the business. I saw him in concert with Emmylou Harris. Each song on "Poison Love" is a masterpiece of it's own. "100,000 Little Bombs" made me realize the destruction created by left behind land mines. "Don't Tell Me" will move you to tears. The title song, "Poison Love" is a great display of both voice and intramentation. I own everything Buddy and his wife Julie has recorded. As long as he keeps recording I will keep purchasing.

Alternative Rock music review My first Buddy Miller album
This was the first album by Buddy Miller I bought, and I guess it has a special place in my heart. I'm also a fan of his wife's music. POISON LOVE is a fine album of great music, start to finish. The sound on the album is much like his first album, a mixture of traditional country laced with blues and soul. Half the album was recorded with Emmylou Harris' band (which he plays lead guitar in). Highlights include "Don't Tell Me", "100 Million Little Bombs", "Nothing Can Stop Me", "That's How Strong My Love Is" and many others. Great album! Check it out!

Alternative Rock music review if you really love music.......
the daddies are for you. i am lucky enough to own all of their work and with the exception of ferociously stoned (their first release), they are all awesome. this is my #1 favorite cd out of all their work. an adventure in musical styles, you will be surprised with every song.

Alternative Rock music review Buy this CD... seriously.
Everything I was ever looking for in music, I found in Rapid City Muscle Car. Skyline Drive is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It is probably the most diverse album you can get and all of the musicians are as talanted as they come. I picked up the CD in an obscure shop on a vacation in Virginia, and it really is all I can remember about the trip. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying that Virginia was borning, that's just how powerful this album was. Okay maybe a little boring...
Do yourself a favor and pick this one up, or at least listen to the samples. All of them.

Alternative Rock music review CPD is the best band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Cherry Poppin Daddies are a wonderful band. I really like this CD. Infact out of the four it is my favorite. It has all different kinds of music. The Lyrics are touching. As I said it before they are a wonderful band!

Before March 16-20, 1992 secured Uncle Tupelo as Commanders in Chief of the alt country assault during the early '90s, Still Feel Gone stated emphatically that this foursome are no musical tumbleweeds. Though twangy, lap-steel-heavy ditties like "Watch Me Fall" and "Still Be Around" cradle a country heart, the bulk of this disc is a nod to Uncle Tupelo's garage and punk rock heritage. The songs find their hooks in the twittery vocals of Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy, but beware the rapid fire drumming from Mike Heidorn. When Uncle Tupelo fires up it's tribute to late-Minuteman D. Boon, you'll realize there's more to these country boys than meets the ear. --Nick Heil

Alternative Rock music review Stands the test of time . . .
Living in Athens, GA circa 1990 I was dragged to a Wednesday night show at the old, old 40 Watt to see a band reputed to be "it". A threesome from the Midwest was all my friend could tell me. I was not disappointed by a band that seemed to be a blenderized mix of Neil Young and the Clash, and offered a front-man (Farrar) with a voice to not be forgotten. Sadly I never sought any recorded material at the time. About 2 years later living in Atlanta a friend was playing this in his car and my brain immediately triggered back to that show, and the rest is history. I can't say that this is my favorite Tupelo album, but it probably is the one I've listened to the most during the wait for new material. The crunch Farrar achieves with his guitar on Punch Drunk is one of my favorite UT moments, and now, over a decade later, the entire disc still sounds great. In retrospect there was no way to know that Tweedy represented as much talent as he now displays as he was clearly a slight second man to Farrar, but just needed the opportunity to step up with Wilco. This is less a review than it is a scolding for music lover who doesn't own/hasn't heard this disc. Don't be scared of labels like "alt-country" or whatever - this is at heart a punk album made by three guys who absorbed the folkier sounds surrounding them in the rural Midwest. Get it now.

Alternative Rock music review Mastery from a unique band
All of Tupelo's albums should elicit 5 stars from anyone who listens to them, and this is no exception. If you have a hard time comprehending what alt./country means this is it. I still favor No Depression over this album, but that doesn't mean that this isn't a gem. They start off giving us a great Replacementish tune which shows their versatility. Tweedy on vocals is nice, but no one matches Farrar whose voice defines a genre. D. Boon does hi-light their ability to walk in and out of alternative as they emulate the late great. What shows up on this album is a prelude to Tweedy's Wilco days. If you are more of a Wilco fan you will like this album, as it features some nice ballads featuring Tweedy's soft voice.
I love Uncle Tupelo, and anything they did was worthy of six stars.

Alternative Rock music review If I could give it ****** I would!
Uncle Tupelo was one of the best bands I ever had the pleasure to see live. They are now defunkt:-( This album is my favorite, today. All of Uncle Tupelo's titles are fantastic so I don't have A favorite; I have rotating favorites and today Still Feel Gone won the coin toss. The first song "Gun" is one of the absolute best, (...) kickin tunes of all times, for that matter, so is "Nothing" and "Punch Drunk" and "D.Boon" and "Postcard" and... But, at the same time there are songs like "Still Be Around" that are so beautiful and sweet and melodic that it's almost painful to hear.
Tupe's style is so unique. One minute they're wailing away on the guitars, the next minute they're doing half time. This constant tempo change is their signature, or at least one of their signatures. It probably doesn't really sound like a good idea, but the results are amazing. The greatness of the collaborative efforts of Farrar and Tweedy simply cannot be overstated. They are GODS!
I could easily describe every song on the album, because THEY ARE ALL GEMS! This album is comprised of not so little nuggets-o-gold from start to finish.
Hint: Best when played very loud!

Alternative Rock music review Where'd they go?
I remember about 6 years ago, I was 16 and had just gotten my first car. It only had a cassette player in it and I didn't have any cassettes...except for this one single cassette by some band called "Liquid Gang". Thought it was a clever name. It only had 2 songs on it but I wore it out regardless. Not only was it all I could play in the car, but it was actually good stuff. I made it a point to buy the CD when it was released and I still listen to it to this day.

I was wondering the other day...where did these guys go? They had a good sound...seemed to be relatively capable writers...seemed to be relatively talented...yet they never broke. I NEVER heard of them. I have no idea where I got that cassette from but, if it weren't for that, they would have sold one less CD cuz I never would have heard of them.

I'm good about hearing bands early in their career sometimes and I enjoy watching how far they go. Depswa is a good example of this. I saw them in concert a long time ago before they broke and I thought they were good. They didn't go far but I did catch a bit about them a couple times. System of a Down is another example of this...but we all know what gargantuan mega stars these guys are now...I saw them years before anyone knew who they were and it was nice watching these guys rocket to where they are now.

Liquid Gang on the other hand...never saw a video...never heard them on the radio...never saw them in concert...nothing. This is strange for a good band like this. If you've got an extra few CENTS layin around (DAMN their CDs are cheap on here!!), I highly recommend pickin this CD up. It'd be a quarter well spent...lol

If anyone knows where these guys went or what happened to them, I'd like to know. rmp5s1@excite.com

Alternative Rock music review a melodic rock masterpiece
i heard "blunt force trauma" off of mtv's return of the rock cd in 2k and was somewhat impressed, so i gave "sunshine" a try.what i heard just about knocked me over."closer" is one heck of a standout single with "better view" being a great 'sunny day' type song.my personal favorite and one of my favorite songs of all time is "would you".you talk about perfection in melodic rock-this song is the epitome of the genre.beautiful stuff, and i DEFINITELY recommend this cd to fans of finger eleven, hoobastank, and doubledrive.

Alternative Rock music review Best rock album of 2000
The world was denied a brilliant band when Liquid Gang broke up. Fortunately some of the members have gone on to other bands such as Planetary and Ether Seeds.

Alternative Rock music reivew good record, could use more variation
Opening with probably the best song on the album, "blank," 'take as needed for pain' is a good album with a screeching dirty vocals, nasty lyrics, and a band that shifts between heavy hardcore crossover and heavy blues driven sludge. some of the riffs are really great, with good use of the blues scales, but a lot of them sound very similar. i like how some of the songs start with a great bass line, but usualy the songs wear thin after a while. still its a good sludge record, but i prefer Grief.

Alternative Rock music review Essential Bower Power
Out of all the EHG albums this one stands out the most and the only one you really need.Note that none of there albums suck its just that this one is the essential.Ifit comes down to purchsing one of there albums get this one and if they dont have it get Dopesick instead. So what do you get from an EHG album? Sick sludged out undecipherable vocals downtuned slightly distorted bass lines and feedback and guitar riffs more brutal than a Crowbar album. The albums excellent with White N*gger,Kill Your Boss,30 dollar bag, every song is great especially the hillarious Laugh It Off.Only problem i have with the album is theres no lyrics with such funny awesome songs names you wanna know what Mikes saying.Threw out the whole album i could only make out the following....Vagina, i wanna get high,as well as her warm piss.Yeah if you like sludge doom you owe it to yourself to pick this one up.

Alternative Rock music review killer band, killer awesome
my fave ehg album, no doubt...

these guys take blag flag, black sabbath, the melvins and lynyrd skynyrd, and blend it all together...

it's awesome to see a band, in a genre like this, incorporate that undeniable southern rock groove into their music (just listen to the grooves in blank, white n*gger, and crimes against skin)...

these are a few reasons why ehg is one of my fave bands...

Alternative Rock music reivew The one to own, period.
The Beat Farmers initial outing is also their best. With good novelity tunes and hilarious drummer/vocalist Country Dick Montana, the Farmers mix of comedy, country and punk went largely unnoticed until Montana's death in 1997. Even after that sad event, they never rose above cult status.
"Tales" contains some stellar material, such as "Bigger Stones", "Selfish Heart", the hilarious and immortal "Happy Boy" and what well may be the greatest Velvet Underground cover ever done "There She Goes Again". The country influence never grates upon the ears of rock fans either and that's saying something.
This is the one to really own by these guys. R.I.P. Country Dick!

Alternative Rock music review Look for the 2004 Rhino reissue (remastered and expanded)
5 stars for the original release -- and 5 more for the Rhino reiussue. Amazon needs to stock it, and don't settle for less. The reissue has 28 tracks including some brilliant live performances from the Spring Valley Inn and other unreleased material. The sound is improved over the original and there's not an ounce of filler. This is the definitive Beat Farmers collection. (And no, I'm not with the band!)

Alternative Rock music review A candidate for the "roots-rock" hall of fame
Of the many "roots-rock" bands that sprang up in the 80s, the Beat Farmers were one of the very best and Tales of the New West is their Sistine Chapel ceiling. I was playing my lp version of it the other night (17 years after it was originally released) and was floored by the band's boundless energy and wit-something sorely missing from rock these days.

To my ears, their cover of "Reason to Believe" surpasses Springsteen's. The song is driven by incendiary slide guitar work that would have made Duane Allman grin and driving bass and drums that simply blow the roof off the joint. Toss in "Lost Weekend," a tune that achieved anthem status for me during the bleak late 80s reign of Ronald Reagan, the wistful but hard-driving "Never Goin' Back," and the delirously loopy "Happy Boy," and you have one of the truly great lost masterpieces of rock. Let's hope that it is reissued-Rhino Records take note-and while they are at it, how about some of the other great bands from this period. Jason and the Scorchers, the Del Lords, Rank and File, the Textones and a superb California Rockabilly compilation that included Los Lobos and the Blasters.

Vigilantes of Love strike a blow for independence with the band's eighth release, the first issued without the help of any outside management or label interference. Produced, financed, and distributed by the band, To the Roof of the Sky reveals Vigilantes of Love's roots-rock heart, from garage-rock stompers like "But Not for Long" to alt-country ballads like "This Time Isn't One of Them." Head Vigilante Bill Mallonee's lyrics draw from a wide source of literary and historical sources for songs that plumb the depths of the human condition. The title track is a haunting, country-tinged ode to George Mallory, who died ascending Mt. Everest. This and more personal songs, such as "Opposite's True" and "Farther up the Road," offer glimpses of spiritual insight that are long on human frailty and heavy on the constancy of Providence. --Brad Caviness

Alternative Rock music reivew Musical Notes
If the Vigilantes Of Love are one of your favorite bands, you're a lucky listener. As a fellow fan, you know what I mean. They're a great band to hear - on disc or in concert. They get your toe tappin' to the music and your mind thinking about the lyrics. The singer's stories come from his heart, and you can feel it. This band runs through your veins.

"To The Roof Of The Sky" is an awesome tune. It's mellow. There is a certain slant of sadness to this slow song. It's a beautiful experience if you were ever fortunate enough to see and hear it done live by the Vigilantes. This song has a melancholy steel guitar swirling in the bacground, but it doesn't make you feel down, it makes you feel good.

If you own any VOL cds that you like, if there are any of their songs that you love, then you owe it to yourself to buy "To The Roof Of The Sky." It's a good cd. This may be their one disc that does it for you. It may have so many good tunes on it that you'll want to kiss me for encouraging you to get it. Don't be paralyzed, Amazon may be out of stock, but you can click on the link to "used" cds and break out your wallet. I'll let you think about it, but not for long.

I think nine of the songs on this album are good. The other six are good to listen to, but I listen to the others first. Check out "Doin' Time," and "Avalanche." Then there's "This Time Isn't One Of Them," that cut alone is worth the price of the cd.

This album came out after Blister Soul, and Slow Dark Train. But there is no heavy guitar work on this release that compares to the loud stuff on those previous two. If that's what you're looking for, play "Filigree," "Proving Ground," and ("Please) Leave Me The Bones" first. But they really don't even come close to the other blasting stuff of 1995 and '97. With this album, the Vigilantes are back to their roots. But don't say they aren't bearing fruit, because the opposite's true.

Bill Mallonee writes all the songs and sings his heart out. He plays the guitar with talent. He's the real deal and all of his words are honest. Listen to him and enjoy.

Alternative Rock music review Required listening for the soul.
I just picked up this CD this week (3/3/2003). I lived for 8 years in Athens, and have had the pleasure of seeing Bill Mallonee several times. And I've seen VOL in about 4 or 5 different incarnations. Bill, who is essentially VOL, is an amazing song writing rollercoaster, with emotion that rips and often heals. Now, let's talk about To The Roof of the Sky. This release is a little more rocking than some releases. There's the trademark sweetness of his voice and the guitar in songs like "This Time Isn't One of Them" and then there's the energy of "Filigree" and "Run Through My Veins". I remember when he performed with Billy Holmes and his bass drum was a mic placed under a crate that he'd stomp on with one foot. His tribute song, "Isadora Duncan" is a great story. I had to research who she was afterwards. The lyrics are so well written. It's lamenting the hardships of life, while always clinging to hope. Hence, the title "required listening for the soul."

Alternative Rock music review A little bit country - a little bit rock 'n roll...
While the y'all-ternative genre has been beat to death, this CD stands the test of time by sounding as fresh today as it did the day it was released. Reminiscent of early Uncle Tupelo, "To The Roof Of The Sky" is a masterful blend of crunch & twang. Watch out Wilco... (...)

Alternative Rock music review They're a new kind of music.
This band is not just a garage band. They have alternative music that hasn't been corrupted by pop. If you by this cd, listen to every song cause they're so different. I saw them in concert at the underground mall in Atlanta two years ago and fell in love at once. They were hot then, but they are even better now. I hope this cd hits big because they worked for it. I talked to the guys when saw them in concert and thy're really nice and not to mention H-O-T-T.

Alternative Rock music review Fresh, exciting and enjoying to listen to
I am enjoying Trinket's CD. All tracks are crisp and full of great riffs. The vocals by Brian have some true rock n roll inflection and are spectacular. Can't wait for a second CD! See them live if you can!

It probably didn't take Bleu brainchild James McAuley III too much effort to entice reclusive Jellyfish frontman Andy Sturmer out of hiding to co-write and sing backup on "Could Be Worse," so potent are the hooks and cascading harmonies on his second full-length album. With Semisonic's Dan Wilson joining the Boston rocker on "Something's Gotta Give," Redhead is an all around power-pop treat with enthusiastic nods to AM radio mainstays like Badfinger and Supertramp, and warm, playful songs like "I Won't Go Hollywood" and "Could Be Worse." "Something Else," which also appears on the Spider Man soundtrack, is an obvious high point, but so is the surging ballad "We'll Do It All Again" and the hidden track "Dance Dance Baby Doll Dance." --Aidin Vaziri

Alternative Rock music reivew One Big Highlight
"Could Be Worse" is the standout track; the rest is OK but undistinguished. I'm writing the review mainly so I stop getting this CD recommended every time I buy another power pop album.

Alternative Rock music review WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS GUY?
This CD suprized me by blowing my doors off - if I had doors, that is. Thanks to the "Customers who bought this item also bought..." option. I saw this CD listed under two of my fav bands - Jellyfish and Owsley. WARNING - don't listen to this if getting songs stuck in your head for days and days is an issue for you. It's inevitable. Bleu has gained a forever fan in me. Now just play some live gigs in NYC soon!

Alternative Rock music review Do It All Again Bleu
I bought a copy for a friend recently and she said "His music sounds so fresh and it's so singable. The lyrics are meaty, too, not just fluffy pop. I'm kind of obsessing over this music right now--which is fun! Thanks so much... I'd like to see him in concert sometime." I had this album for a year before I really got into it, since it takes a couple of listens to really appreciate. At first listen I really liked We'll Do It All Again, and put it onto my MP3. A year later I finally got the album out again and it bleu me away. I realize that there is something slightly Barry Mannilowish about We'll Do It All Again, because he has some lungs, not because of style or anything. He reminds me more of Jellyfish, or They Might Be Giants. Some songs are so pathetic, vulnerable, and a little too honest for comfort as far as lyrics go, but they are energetic and hopeful in their delivery. Anyone who appreciates art for arts sake will probably like this album. The songwriting is superb and precisely produced. The second hidden track is a real gem, that you don't need to relate to in order to appreciate. The lyrics are clever and fun even though several songs have a theme of loneliness.
