An ok dance CDThis is an ok dance CD. Only about 4 good dance tracks worth the listen such as "Who Do U Love" - Deborah Cox, "Be My Lover" - La Bouche feat. Melanie Thornton, "Dreamer" - Livin' Joy, "Beautiful Life" - Ace of Base. The rest is basically pretty boring. Not a great dance CD, but still an ok one. Get this only if you like most of the tracks and artists on this dance compilation album.
THE BEST!This awesome CD reminds me of my senior year of high school at the American School of the Hague in the Netherlands. Weekends were spent dancing my butt off to these awesome songs, I miss eurotechno, and eurodance! To anyone who loves to dance this is a must, not to mention this CD will have you moving at the gym!
I MISS THIS TIME...BEST EVER!

These guys should be stars. If there is any justice in the music industry, these guys will be major stars within a couple of years. Unfortunately, good music is no longer popular. Okay, sorry for the rant. The Trailers are kinda hard to classify, but I'd probably call it heartland rock- think Petty or Mellencamp. Whatever it is, its darn good music. I tried, but can't really even pick my favorite songs on the album- there's just too many. My only gripe is that they change lead singers for a couple of songs, and I don't care for his voice nearly as much. Bottom line: pick this one up now.
Even to an almost-13 year old, a rocking must-haveThese guys really rock! They are AWESOME!!!!!! I listen to this CD all the time, and have recommended it to my friends, who love it!
The Lost Trailers ROCKFive guys from Atlanta, GA (Respectively) really know how to rock! Stokes Nielson, Manny Medina, Jeff Potter, Andrew Nielson and Ryder Lee = The Lost Trailers and "Welcome To The Woods", their first major release, rocks beyond words. Every song on the album is a MUST LISTEN; there is something for everyone, especially if you like good ole Southern Rock. The first time I listened to the album I was hooked. It is hard to decide what captures your attention first because the music rocks, the lyrics will blow your mind, and well, whether it be the raspy voice of Stokes Nielson or the bluesy voice of Ryder Lee you become hypnotized. And to be honest the more you listen to this album the more you will love the band. This album includes everything; songs about decision making and growing up, ("West End", "Longfall"), songs about hanging with your buds and getting in trouble, ("The Battery"), songs about love and being on the road ("Atlanta", "Walking Blind"), and a song about getting revenge when the one you love cheats on you ("Fire on the Pontchartrain"). And these are just 5 of the 14 songs on the album! It is hard for me to say which song is my favorite; I truly love the entire album. If I HAD to choose a favorite, I would break it down between the two singers and choose one from each. Stokes: "Fire on the Pontchartrain", no one else could possibly sing it like he does and give it justice! Just listen to the song, you will understand what I mean. Ryder: "Sitting on Top of the World", the song and music rock, everyone contributes to this song, but Ryder's voice is what tops it all off! If you like their music, you will LOVE their live show. I promise you they are even better in person. Plus they are five of the nicest guys I have met working with bands. So if you get the chance check them out, but until they reach your neck of the woods, get yourself their CD so you will be ready to sing along! Audience participation is a MUST!

He's a poet you want to listen toI heard Vic Chesnutt's "About to Choke" at a listening station in Tower when it was released, and thought, "okay, here's one guy I don't need to bother with." Years later I found this album, "West of Rome" in a used bin, and thought "What the heck?" I am glad I did. This album became a real turning point in my listening, along with the Magnetic Fields' "69 Love Songs." Absolutely of the highest quality and more moving than one would imagine a rock album could be. If you like your music to go deep and be a really sad and really funny, this might do the trick for you. I listened to this album nonstop for weeks when I bought it, and learned later on how rare it was. That's what I call a lucky break for me. Worth hunting out, this one.
Vic's `second squirt`, his `Ask The Dust`, his masterpieceThis is the early raw Chestnutt, when accompaniment was minimal, predominantly acoustic and when he was desperate to wrestle every lyrical jewel into every little space. The title reference to the great American writer John Fante, is a key to this, Chestnutt's `second squirt`, his `sophomore slough`, his `Ask The Dust`, his masterpiece. Like prime Fante, this free-wheels with fevered flights of imagery, suffused with playful and surreal comedy and `stupid preoccupations` with waylaid terms (`puny ingratiations`, `croaker sacks`, `tectonic panache`...) that Vic stretches, rolls and spits with unmistakable relish (`pee-yew-nee in-gray-shee-aa-shuns`), but is ultimately steeped in tragedy (`Florida` concerns the suicide of a friend). These are broad comparisons, Chestnutt, straddling the high-wires of lazy `alt country` classifications, is a unique, unrivalled figure in modern American music, as typified by champions as diverse as Mary Margeret O'Hara, R.E.M. (Stipe produced this record and offers some funked-up clavinet), Garbage and even Madonna. Like Fante Chesnutt is undervalued, and demands your immediate attention, and this is the record to begin the crusade.
His bestVic Chesnutt is the Cat Stevens of the indie rock set, but before you claw my eyes out, I mean it as a compliment: he is much darker, more twisted, more visionary than old Cat, but come on, admit it, there are some similarities of voice and tunefulness. Anyhow, forget the little shudder when you think of your old copy of Tea For the Tillerman, West of Rome just gets finer and finer with each listen. The song "Lucinda Williams" is worth the price of admission here alone ("sit down on a hurt as big as Robert Mitchum/and listen to Lucinda Williams") and Panic Pure --which has been covered brilliantly by Kirsten Hirsch --is a poetic gem. Where Were You is the quintissential dis tune --I could go on and on. In short, the finest singer-songwriter disc of the 90's, bar none.

New York City singer Lori Carson debuted with an album called Shelter in 1990. Produced by Hal Willner, Shelter captured a new singer overpowered by an experienced producer. An interesting experiment, it perhaps explains why her second album is such a dour, quiet affair. Produced by Anton Fier of Golden Palominos fame (and for whom Carson once sang), Where It Goes gets it closer to Carson's heart. Tracks such as "Twisting My Words," "Fell Into the Loneliness," and "Anyday" are top notch Carson but are also made a bit sterile by the carefully laid instrumental tracks. Carson's breathing room was not found until her next album, Everything I Touch Runs Wild. --Rob O'Connor
Average review score:

Down - But GoodI can't even tell you what made me purchase this disk when it was released. Something must have intrigued me enough to purchase it. I was not a huge Golden Palominos fan - but whatever the reason, it was an inspired purchase.
I've been accused of liking 'down music' - or as a friend of mine says, 'down...but good'. This disk would qualify for that category. For the most part, the music and vocals are understated. Though sparsely arranged, the songs are complete - sometimes fragile, sometimes haunted, but always good.
"Petal" is certainly a stand-out track, but there are many ("Down Here", "Where It Goes"). I believe the disk is still in print - so if you have the opportunity to pick it up - I suggest you do so.
As Golden as any PalominoThis is Lori Carsons best album to date. It has the dark intensity and harsh beauty as her best work with the Golden Palominos and the lush minimalist production by Anton Fier adds to its power. Though I love all of her albums, I would recommend this as the perfect introduction to her solo work for those not familiar with this wonderful artist.
Simply beautifulI had the opportunity to watch Lori Carson perform live at Tower Records Singapore during her promotional tour for this album. At once hooked, I rushed to purchase the CD and get her autograph. To this day the CD remains one of my most treasured possessions. This is one of those rare albums I can honestly call timeless.

karma to burnkarma to burn are a 3 piece instrumental rock band from west virginia. i really dig the fact that they dont have a singer. there is way too much chatter in rock these days anyway. wild wonderful purgatory is a pretty straitforward rock album, drawing influence from zeppelin, sabbath, kiss, etc. this is good, classic rock n roll the way it should be played, which is sadly very rare these days. not much being released now days is going to be remembered. this may be an exception. it rocks hard.
These guys are worth your[money]I saw these dudes and thought, initially, it was odd they didn't have a singer. I quickly realized they didn't need it. They really excell in melody, musicianship, and kicking rythms! BTW - this is GREAT car driving music!!! And the music doesn't get old, or out of date. They have a good ol' hard rock sound similar to AC/DC, but more complicated and deep, like a mix of Zeppelin, Hendrix, or Primus (- minus the vocals of course). Really great music for three guys. The drummer is a total pro, as the drum track is totally amazing, and fills out the songs perfectly. The Basist works very hard as well, carrying melody and harmony for the guitarist, which is so well done i often loose track of which is which. And the guitarist is just as cool as you can imagine, with kick butt riffs that simply rock. No over the top BS with this band, they just play hard rock music like you want it. This is one of the best instrumental albums i have ever bought, and i am glad they are finally on Amazon. I first saw these guys live, and they were just as good live as on CD, so i highly recommend the CD!
Thick and heavy grooves!!!The first time I saw Karma To Burn play was in 1994 at Peabody's Cafe in Cleveland Hts, OH. The boys just moved up there from West "By God" Virginia. They opened for a local band we were following at the time. From the moment we heard them, we knew they were onto something. Nothing but thick, heavy grooves. WOW! Although nothing compares to a live show, this album sure comes close. Their original drummer was so much better then the current one, but the amazing riffs make up for that. Definitely open up the wallet and shell out the cash for this one. You won't regret it.

AmazingI saw these guys live and the album is great. If you get a chance to buy it or see them live, do NOT let it go.
awesomeI got hooked on the guys by going to one of thier concerts. I hadn't heard anything about them, so I took a chance and went. I was blown away by what I heard. I wound up buying both their cds that night. I had never found a cd where I liked every single song, until I bought thiers. I've listened to mine so much that I know every song by heart. I suggest everybody buy this cd. I can't wait for more albums to come.

all they needed was some great songs of course that's the rub for many good local bands. the wipers were (are?) a very good local band but i had never heard of them before amazon .the reason for that is there are no great songs on this box set. they play great, sound great but nothing is memorable (except maybe the overall guitar driven sound). comparisons to the velvet underground, love or big star are absurd because all those bands had many all time great songs. and that's the main difference between all time greats and very good local bands. great songs. it's what's lacking on this box set. 3 and 1/2 stars.
PORTLAND NATIVE SAYS YES TO WIPERSLike Syd Barrett, Greg Sage has been afflicted/blessed with a condition known as synthaesia, the ability to 'see' sounds and 'hear' color. One of the guys from Crackerbash said that the Wipers sound like Portland in the winter. Listen to 'youth of america' and you will know what months of rain and grey skies look/sound like...
One more thing, that guy that said they had no songs is stupid, "Messanger", "Romeo" and "Window Shop.." are standouts among many...

So good....A very addictive set of records... Particularily 'Is this Real?' and 'YOA'. It's beautifully flawed stuff: self-romanticized teenager music that takes itself too seriously; but damn, is it awesome.
Very sincere. Honest, sometimes angry and most often naive. Very thoughtful changes, sometimes almost amatuerishly ornate. Oh yeah. And they also rock.
Listen to any of these records once, and I can understand if you aren't blown away. Listen three times, and if you're not madly, hopelessly in love, it's because you have no soul.

Great Brain of J. Performance/U is a great jamThis is not Pearl Jam's best CD single, but still very good. WISHLIST is a great song (off of Yield). U is a great jam and the highlight of the CD is the BRAIN OF J. live performance.
Good B-Side and Wicked Live SongI had to have this cd when i found out the live recording of Brain Of J was from the Melbourne concert on the 5th March, 1998. I was at that concert and just wanted a recording so i could hold on to the moment of that concert. It was a wicked concert and the recording of Brain of J is one of the best. But then i got the single, i like wishlist but it isnt PJ's best work, but still good. When i first heard the b-side 'U', i couldn't understand the lyrics (as u cant on most songs at first), but the song is really good. It is a bit soft, a love song sort of but is very good, a must get for all true PJ fans!
Well Worth the BuyWish list is the same wish list that youve heard before. This track off of Yield deals with wanting to be something other than yourself but at the same time realizing who you are supposed to be and who you really are. Its a cool/warm song with average but fun lyrics.
The B-side included is "U" a love song. Its catchy, fast paced and happy. In my opinion, its the opposite feeling of yield, reason why it was kept out. There is only one other place where you can get this song and thats in only 1 of the bootlegs.
This cd rocks!

Average review score:

Lack of WaterThis record has their single "Lack of Water" on it. For some unknown reason, the CD has a bunch of blank tracks on it after the first 10 or so songs. The last track on the disk is "Lack of Water". The description by Amazon doesn't even include this song in the list of tracks, probably because of the weird gimmicky blank track thing, but rest assured that the last song is their big single.
The rest of the disk seems ok, but I bought it for the hit single. This was unavailable at iTunes the last time I looked, so I had to buy the entire CD. Not a bad price at a penny plus S&H.

Great AlbumA great debut album for the Why Store to a national audience. Unfortunately, MCA wanted to the change the essence of the band and then abandoned one of the best bands of the '90's when they refused. High energy music unique in style borrowing from traditional rock and roll, the band's lead singer Chris Shaffer, who authored almost all of the band's music, has an incredible voice and is supported by Michael David Smith's mastery on lead guitar. The album contains most of the best performed by the band live (with the exception of "When You're High," which was re-released on the second MCA album, Two Beasts). Why Store albums have become collectors' items - get a copy while you still can, sit back and enjoy some of the best music ever printed onto a CD. If around the Midwest, can catch Chris Shaffer and his current band still performing some of the Why Store songs as well as his new music that he continues to create. Check it out on Chris Shaffer.com
It's a shame they are not togetherI have listened to these guys when I was in college at Ball State University. I think Chris Shaffer brings back the southern rock like the better days of rock. I was glad to see the Why Store reunion back in June 2002 at the Vogue in Indianapolis. This is a must buy CD. Take care!

Average review score:

I wish I could give it 0 starsI too felt that amazon misrepresented this CD. I did a search for Taylor Hicks and this is what came up. I didn't feel that I had to search anymore it was the only thing that came up. I do not like this music at all! Not to mention I waited over a month for the CD and was seriously disappointment! I warn other buyers out there to look for Taylor Hicks CD's elsewhere.
GRADEdo we need any more evidence that 'american idol' viewers are retarded?
this cd is the best thing grade did.

Do not rate this album bad because you are illiterate. So you searched for Taylor Hicks and found this? Didn't you see that it was by another band, on another label, and produced IN ANOTHER MILLENIA?
Do not give this album zero stars because you are illiterate or too lazy to look at what it is you are paying for. How do you people manage to get up every morning without walking into traffic? Unbelievable.
This is a good album by a short-lived hardcore band in the late 90s. It has nothing to do with Taylor Hicks.
