Alternative Rock Compilations music reivew Not bad, but not the complete roots of Roadrunner
When Roadrunner Records first started out, there were a handfull of bands that kept the label rolling, and while this compilation has a few good moments, it misses the mark for the most part. Sure, Slipknot helped catapault Roadrunner to superstar record label status, but they don't belong on here, and neither does lead singer Corey Taylor's Stone Sour band either. Of all the Sepultura songs that could be included on here, they picked "Roots Bloody Roots", which was the band's only real hit. Anything from "Beneath the Remains", "Arise", or "Chaos A.D." would have been a better selection. Coal Chamber and Killswitch Engage helped find the label success as well, but they don't belong on here either, and neither does Max Cavalera's Soulfly. Not to mention that material from Fear Factory and Type O Negative should have been from their debut albums, instead of the more recent hits. Thankfully, someone remembered the band's that made Roadrunner a force to be reckoned with at one time: Deicide, King Diamond, Life of Agony, Obituary, and Nailbomb; but where is Mercyful Fate, Death, and Biohazard? Who knows, but for everything this compilation does wrong, it does a lot right. Thankfully they decided not to include any tracks from Nickelback.

Alternative Rock Compilations music reivew Metal up the ass
This is a great cd Ididn't expect much from.I bought it for 4.99

1. Fear Factory-Replica.Fear Factory kick ass and this is one of
their best songs.Never slow and always crunchy and heavy
2.Killswitch Engage-In the Unblind.KSE kick the sh@t out of every
one,I like Howard Jones,But Jesse was the man.
3.Sepultura-Roots Bloody Roots.A classic tribal/metal tune from
the Calvera brothers and co.
4.Chimaira-Fascination St.Melodic and relentless at times.GREAT.
5.Decide-.Got to have some all out death once in a while.
Well those are stand outs the rest are good though.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review check it out !
this incredible album is a compilation of artist from roadrunner records back in 2003! i highly recomend this cd to anyone who is or has become interested in metal. the heart of roadrunner records compilation has a very very VERY good selection of talented artist new and old.
and about a half of the songs are exclusive, like the remix of "spit it out" by slipknot and "unreal" by ill nino. it also includes the cover of the cures dark "fascination street" by chimara, which is actually pretty good even though its about 5 minutes long. the classic song "roots bloody roots" by sepultura is very catchy song and was a great way to kick of this cd. what i enjoyed the most on this compilation though was the song "brujeria" by brujerizmo! which is a very unique mexican heavy metal band. during the song "dead by dawn" by deicide they scream like frogs croaking, which is interesting i guess... i like all of the other songs to although i am sort of disapointed by the soulfly song because its kind of retarded and anoying, it sounds more punk rockish and is only a minute and 30 seconds long. but the song i really hate is the song "abigail" by king diamond. the guy screams like a little girl, its sounds really anoying. but other than that this is a great compilation and the inserts include long list of roadrunner artist during 2003 and small portrates of all the bands on the inside cover except Nailbomb and Brujerizmo. o'yeah song number 3, "In the unblind" is by Killswitch Engage!

Alternative Rock Compilations music reivew An ok dance CD
This is an ok dance CD. Only about 4 good dance tracks worth the listen such as "Who Do U Love" - Deborah Cox, "Be My Lover" - La Bouche feat. Melanie Thornton, "Dreamer" - Livin' Joy, "Beautiful Life" - Ace of Base. The rest is basically pretty boring. Not a great dance CD, but still an ok one. Get this only if you like most of the tracks and artists on this dance compilation album.

This benefit CD for the Northwest AIDS Foundation collects a dozen previously released remakes of classic rock and soul songs from the 1960s to the 1980s. Each listener will find his or her own highlights--this corner has always been partial to Aztec Camera's to-swoon-for take on Van Halen's "Jump"--but the entire disc makes for tasteful play-through. The overall slant is positive, with Sarah McLachlan (Donovan's "Wear Your Love Like Heaven"), the Go-Go's ("Cool Jerk"), and John Wesley Harding (Madonna's "Like a Prayer") in particularly sunny moods. Cover Me should stand not only as a fine fundraising tool for a great cause, but as a reminder that the foundation still has much vital work left to do. --Rickey Wright

Alternative Rock Compilations music review cover me covers all
Cover me is a great musical compilation that has something for everyone. A real treat and best of all you get great music and help out a very worthy cause at the same time.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Great Tunes!
I'm not a sophisticated music listener but have found this disc to be on "permanent play" in my car and home CD player. I really like the version of "Like A Prayer", "Jump" and Melkey Sedek's amazing voice. I'm giving these out as stocking stuffers to everyone in my family! The fact that the profits go to fight AIDS is just a bonus.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review one of the best comps
Not So Quiet on the Western Front is one of the best comps because it offers most of the best hardcore/punk from California and Nevada at the time. I definitly recommend this to anyone who is new to hardcore,Check it out.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review The Alternative Tentacles/Maximum Rock & Roll compilation.
Ah, i didn't even know this had been reissued but i'm glad that it has.

There are a number of reasons why you should own this. One is that it's probably the best hardcore compilation ever recorded. At the very least it's every bit as good as "flex your head" or "this is Boston and not L.A".

Another is the line-up : Dead Kennedys, Crucifix, 7 Seconds, Fang, Flipper, MDC, Intesified Chaos, Code Of Honor, The Church Police, Capitol Punishment and pretty much ever other early 80's hardcore/punk/noise band from California you can think of.

But, the most important reason why you should own this is because it includes the song "holocaust" by M.A.D who were the early incarnation of Bl'ast!. This, to my knowledge, is the only M.A.D song that's ever been officially released from their 1982 demo tape. Anyway, you know the song that plays in the background at the start of "time to think" by Bl'ast! on the "power of expression" lp before the guitars crank up and the scattershot drums come in..? This is that very song.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review The Definitive NorCal Punk Compilation
This is it; this is the music that liberated thousands of my fellow Northern Californians. There's some truly kick-ass $hit on here. And while the styles range tremendously, every song on this album is good. And then some are GREAT, like "Pay Salvation" by Los Olvidados or "Breakout" by UXB. If you like Maximum Rock and Roll, you will love this album! This is a monument to nonconformity and I highly recommend it.

Alternative Rock Compilations music reivew The last real Chillout Euphoria
I wonder why Euphoria stopped making these? Was it to take a small hiatus from the saturated chill-out market? Whatever the reason, I miss their chillout series of cd's which spanned, IMO, 3.5 volumes if you half-way include Deeper Shades of Euphoria. This was the third release which came out in 2001, mixed by Solar Stone. The previous two had been done to near perfection by Euphoria's resident DJ Red Jerry.

Solar Stone did a great job. If you were a fan of Deep & Chilled and Chilled, I think you'll enjoy this as long as you're open to a different mixing style and song selection. That's not to say that Solar Stone changed form of the series; in fact they kept it pretty similar. But they included some songs and artists I wouldn't have really considered initially like The Art of Noise, Garbage and Beanfield. What I like about the Euphoria series is that their chill-out usually gives trance cuts amazing face-lifts and the dj's often create their own intro's and outros between cuts. Probably my favorite part of this cd is the way "Love Song" seamlessly moves into Banco De Gaia's "Touching the Void". It's breath-taking! A couple of other bright moments are when Papau New Guinea is mixed into Epsilon Phase, and I even thought it was interesting to hear Garbage then mixed into a grossly underrated song by Compost artist Beanfield called "Charles". (the song was actually featured on a Ford Escape commercial last year).

I certainly recommend this double cd set. It's dark, good mixing and good songs. It's very different from the ridiculously commercialized Ministry of Sound compilations... But I must admit that this borders on a sort of ambient vibe, and a few songs didn't grab me - interesting how far back they go with some of the songs, and the price of these has SKYROCKETED over the past 3-4 years. Get it abroad. If you have already checked this out and want something a bit similar, then by all means check out Deeper Shades.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Breath-Taking
DJ Solar Stone, seamlessly mixes all tracks together to make them flow like water; with tracks like "Charies" and "Milk" and many other tracks that sound down-tempo and sexy! Euphoria Chilled is relaxing and magical, you can imagine yourself being transported to neverland or some other outlandish place. It simply is breath-taking. I loved both cds included in this set. If you like chill-out music, or you want to hear something really mellow, you won't be disappointed.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Buy it NOW!
I have been into this type of music for a long time......I own several of the Euphoria cds........this one by far is the best of the bunch including the newer releases......I have never stopped playing this set of cds!

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Another Awesome CD For Asian Man
After buying Mail Order is Fun I just had to have Mail Order is Still Fun. I was right! This CD is packed with so many great songs from awesome ska/punk bands. Bands like Broadways, Slapstick, and The Wunder Years make this a great CD. Any punk/ska fan would love this CD! If you are looking to "waste" a couple of dollars from your paycheck. Buy this CD you won't feel like it was that much of a waste. Peace and Unity-Ash

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Good , cheap, fun.
Whether you're into the indie scene, or ska, or punk, or Asian people in general, 'Mail Order is Still Fun' is an awesome cd. (And if you hate it, then it was under 4 bucks anyways... no big deal.)

The best tracks on this album are "Spa" by Jonny Socko, "Korea is so far away" by Mike Park, "Trapped Like Rats in Myers Flat" by Slow Cherkin, and "Don't Sit Next to Me Just Because I'm Asian" by the B-Lee Band. Everything on here is pretty decent though. Most songs are really creative and funny as hell!

'Mail Order is Still Fun' is about an hour of fun energetic ska/punk. I can't think of any reasons NOT to buy it... so give it a listen and SUPPORT UNDERGROUND MUSIC!!!

Alternative Rock Compilations music review good music
This CD is really good, my favorites being an awesome song by The Muggs, Jamons, Slapstick, and Blue Meanies, but they are all excellent. Buy this and enjoy the low price

Alternative Rock Compilations music review RADA; Royal Academy of Deficient Actors when compared to Joe Fiennes
If you enjoy Shakespeare you will appreciate this recording of various sonnets performed by various English actors. Some are presented as musical pieces which seem forced and not enough time is allowed between readings,
HOWEVER, the most interesting aspect of the recording is that Mr. Fiennes, who was rejected by RADA as a student, is the only non-RADA graduate invited to participate in the recording.
Also , he is given the honor of performing the first and last selections. The reason why is obvious. His performance is so far superior to the others you wonder why they didn't just let him record the entire program.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review I wish Alan Rickman.........
I wish Alan Rickman would engage in more spoken word recordings - his voice is incredible. As another reviewer wrote I, too, bought this CD for Rickman alone, but the cd is great from start to finish. Now, if Alan Rickman would only record something like Edgar Alan Poe's poems! Could you imagine THAT voice doing 'The Raven', or 'The Bells'. Haunting! Absolutely haunting. Please Mr. Rickman (bended kneee) read this and indulge your many fans!

BTW: For those of you who enjoy Alan Rickman, he has recorded 'Return of the Native' by Thomas Hardy -- it is super!

Alternative Rock Compilations music review The words, the voices, the music: amazing
O.k. I'll be honest: I got this CD because of Alan Rickman. However, in the short time I've had it, I've listened to the entire album, start to finish, probably a dozen times. Rickman is amazing with his recitation of Sonnet 130, which admittedly I've listened to more than any other, but Refus Wainwright also deserves mention for a beautiful musical rendition of Sonnet 29. Although I don't know who Henry Goodman is, his version of Sonnet 46 does such an excellent job of capturing the witty back and forth of the eye and heart at war. I was also pleased to see some names (and hear some voices) that I do recognize: Imogen Stubbs, Kenneth Branagh, John Hurt, Annie Lennox, Juliet Stevenson, and Ralph Fiennes--and that's just naming a few of the greats making an appearance on this CD. Finally, if you don't like any of the actors/musicians I've mentioned, you should buy this album just for the sonnets themselves. It's a must-have for any true Shakespeare fan.

Alternative Rock Compilations music reivew excellent live compilation!
San Francisco radio station Alice 97.3 has put together their seventh compilation album. Almost all of the tracks on this disc were recorded for their regular show featuring live performances by artists in an intimate setting.

Here is the track listing:
1. Coldplay - Trouble (Alice In Winterland)
2. Counting Crows - If I Could Give All My Love (live in Amsterdam)
3. Tori Amos - A Sorta Fairytale (Alice Lounge)
4. Erasure - Solsbury Hill (Alice Lounge)
5. Evanescence - Bring Me To Life (acoustic)
6. Jason Mraz - The Remedy (Alice Lounge)
7. Frou Frou - Good To Be In Love (Alice Lounge)
8. Jack Johnson - Flake (Alice Lounge)
9. Chantal Kreviazuk - In This Life (Alice Lounge)
10. Robbie Williams - Come Undone (Alice Lounge)
11. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes (Alice's Summerthing)
12. matchbox twenty - Disease (acoustic)
13. Luce - Good Day (Alice Lounge)
14. Duncan Sheik - For You (Alice Lounge)
15. Avril Lavigne - Complicated (acoustic)
16. Maroon 5 - Harder To Breathe (Alice Lounge)
17. Madonna - American Life (Oakenfold Downtempo Mix)

Erasure's cover of 'Solsbury Hill' is very different than their album version of it. Here, it is a stripped-down acoustic version, sweet and aching. Tori takes 'A Sorta Fairytale' and gives us a bittersweet look at something that was good, but not quite good enough. San Francisco band Luce picks up the mood with their 'Good Day', reminding us that some days are good just because your girlfriend makes you pancakes for breakfast. A remix of Madonna's 'American Life' closes out the CD.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Great compilation
I loved every minute of every song on this CD. Having Coldplay's "Trouble" to open up was a pretty good choice. Mraz was amazing of course :) Get it before it sells out!

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Alice has done it yet again!!!
Again Alice has done a great job of compiling the the top hits from their play list! Many the songs are live recordings from the Alice Lounge Performances, making this a great live, acoustic album. For those die hard Madonna fans the final track on the album is a limited release remix of American Life, making this a must have for any collector!

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Thank Q
This is a great cd! I really hope that people will take a listen and use this as a jumping off place to listen deeper to some of the artists who have paid tribute to NRBQ on this cd. Take special note of Matt Hebert from Ware River Club (and buy their new "Cathedral" cd, too). You really have to give Spirit House Records a lot of credit for pulling this project together and getting it out there to Q people everywhere. Buy one for yourself and one as a gift.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review About Time
These guys have been going strong for 35 years. Thank all the wonderful artists who appear on this CD for recognizing the Q's talent. If you haven't heard of NRBQ buy an album and if you haven't seen them make sure you do just once and you'll be hooked. Thank you to Spirithouse for creating this long awaited tribute album, hopefully it will create new Q listeners. A must have for every NRBQ fan

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Widespread fans
Widespread has been talking about how great these guys are for years. I've become a fan of NRBQ over the past few years. Every musician seems to worship these guys and you MUST see them live.
Check this out. Los Lobos, Widespread and Spongebob are worth the price alone....
