Alternative Rock Compilations music reviews

I don't have this yet, but I like Ace Troubleshooter, Slick Shoes, and MxPx, so I should like this. I know it'll be better than Vol. 4. Love Vol. 1!

This is a great cd with a wide variety of music from all of the best Tooth & Nail artists. With songs from twothirtyeight, Kuless, Bleach, Fine China, Ace Troubleshooter, Furthermore, Mortal, and many others... I don't think anyone could get bored with this cd!

Fine David Bowie tribute album. Well known David Bowie songs recorded by excellent bands, with female vocals. Most I like "Space Oddity" by Pitch Black Dream, "Kooks" by Andrea Perry, "Watch That Man" by The Fur Ones, "Rebel Rebel" by Tegan + Sara (featuring Grace Nocturnal) and "Modern Love" by Astrid Young.

Some radical and unexpected renditions of Bowie's tunes here, both his hits and some later, more obscure compositions. Wide range of styles from folk to punk but everything works. Every cover on this cd sounds fresh like it was written today. Just goes to show what a talent Bowie was and is and how talented these chicks covering him are.

What a find! This is an amazing collection of 19 different Bowie compositions - some hits and some more obscure tunes - performed by an eclectic mix of women and "girl bands" in styles ranging from acoustic folk to surf punk. There's not a dud track on this CD. As a longtime fan of Mr. Bowie, I own just about every tribute album that's been put out and this one is far and above the best. No huge acts on this CD although there are a few names I had heard of before (Tegan and Sara, Essra Mohawk, Shesus, The Switchblade Kittens, and Neil Young's sister Astrid). I highly recommend this CD to anyone who likes Bowie's music, women's music, or new music in general.

I use this seasonal CD whenever I feel for an originality fix. This whole world in your hands com"YULE"ation from under the Atlantic label tree seems refreshing with each listen. Perhaps it`s the four tracks in unfamiliar tongue that allow for a dreamy flow of imagination and wonder. Perhaps it`s the exclusion of tried and true seasonal standards that for me have become like Santa`s sour milk and stale cookie treat left out at each house. Perhaps it`s the serenity of serendipious instrumentation that allows time for personal reflection upon the real reason. Perhaps it`s the "ideal model" for any label to use for a com"YULE"ation , as it favors more of a feminine anglelic vocalization to aid in seaonal balance. Perhaps it`s that one of my favorite Yultides ,that is just becoming a more of seasonal standard with each years passing, fills the ninith track here.Perhaps it`s the complier's intoxicating mix of track arrangement and the involvement of talent that truly defines feeling. Perhaps...ah no need to be rambling on. This CD is lost Yuletide Treasure and with so much orginality it`s worthy of a flyer by you. This has become the release I cannot live without at Christmas. It is completely undiscovered and overlooked, having been released in 1995, and would be at the top of your favorites list if you heard it. The producers who assembled this incredible collection of moving music, which so thoroughly captures the spirit of the holiday season as well as any classic you can think of, deserve all too late praise for their taste and insight. Instead of relying on the familiar it makes the unfamiliar as comfortable and comforting as all of those warhorses one associates with Christmas. There are so many favorite tracks here it is unfair to break them out from the piece as a whole, even though they are all different artists performing a variety of styles and even cultures. Get this cd and be forever grateful to me--but more so to the idea of Christmas and the incredible job done by people I had (mostly)never heard of before. You will find peace and joy for a few dollars. Treat yourself.

I really love Arf Arf's garage releases, and this one is certainly no exception. Several stunning mostly-60's garage tracks, cleaned up (for the most part) amazingly...it's all great, and there's really something for everyone, from the freak-out "I Wanna Hold your Hand" to "Love In" (which sounds suspiciously like two Fugs songs). If you like Nuggets and Pebbles, this will certainly be a delight.

Aware Records puts out a compilation each year featuring the best unsigned rock acts in the nation, many of whom go on to become major label bands with hits left and right. Past artists on the compilation have been Vertical Horizon, matchbox twenty, Edwin McCain, Five For Fighting, John Mayer, the Vervepipe, Hootie and the Blowfish. Aware 7 is an amazing album with the highlights being Wayne, Gus, and the Gufs (with Rob Thomas on back up vocals). I reccommend this disc and all the others too. Aware 8 should be coming out soon... Aware rocks!

honestly, as a huge aware fan, i have been waiting for this forever....perhaps one of the few cds (or greatest hits) where i could have picked out every song...eleanor (shannon worrell and dave matthews) is one of the greatest songs, along with vineyard (jackopierce), window (guster), john mayer, verticle horizon...it could be the soundtrack of the last 7 years of my life. aware records is my most trusted source of new music and it's cool to have a cd like this come out and see how these once unknown bands have now become the fabric of modern music society

This album contains a concoction of chillout grooves, funky techno, and sexy sounds of disco. I loved every single track. I usually don't care for purely DJ techno sounds that are associated with Ibiza albums so this was a refreshing offer.
Makes me want to take a future trip to Ibiza and visit all these nightclubs: Cafe Del Mar, Space, Amnesia..

Fantastic. This is one of the finer collections in the series.When available, I would really suggest that you pick it up.

The price may seem steep, but the selections are excellent.

overall, this CD rocks loud & heavy. lots of rock and hard core rap. plus, the bonus dvd is worth the price of the CD alone. highly recommended.

A great cross section of Brit/oi ,a good starter kit.Well worth the money.Some of the best late 80,s oi bands are captured in this album.Has something for everyone [of any age]into skin/punk.

I have a very bad English but I listen to punk rock since I was in highschool. I own over 400 punk albums, but believe me forget about MXPX, Blink, Lagwagon, Tenfootpole and buy this album. I am 27 years old now so I know what I'm saying, you will listen to MXPX (I have all their albums) until you are 20-21 but you can listen to bands like Cockney Rejects or Sham 69 all your life.
