Alternative Rock Compilations music reviews

If you are someone who loves instrumental music with a Latin beat, you will love this CD too. It inspires my creative side. I usually pop this CD in after a long day at work, pour a glass of Merlot and cook my favorite recipes.

I have always enjoyed Sting's music and I think that this CD is a fitting tribute to a man that has been an enduring icon in popular, innovative music for so many years.

So many of the classics are covered here, and they are all done very well. Take your pick of any of them and I think that you will be pleased.

I just can't believe this CD hasn't been reviewed here yet! This has been one of my best listening pleasures of 2004, easily! Not only it made me hear some great favorite singers (and their bands) of mine, Neko Case and Laura Cantrell among them, but also it made me discover some exciting others I hadn't heard before, like Kim Lenz, as well as The Ranch Girls & the Ragtime Wranglers. I bought their records after and haven't been disappointed. They make retro rock'n'roll, but it's a delight, and rock'n'roll will never die, everybody knows that! There are 21 songs here, paying tribute to Wanda Jackson, the first lady of rock'n'roll, and each is at least good, and often great! The performances of Asylum Street Spankers, Rosie Flores, Wayne Hancock, Jesse Dayton and many others are top-notch. This the best tribute album of my collection so far, with a beautiful cover art (Jon Langford), and a rich booklet. This CD doesn't only celebrate Wanda as she deserves to be, it also leads you to many other artists and bands you need to hear the personal sound and music as well. Long live rock'n'roll, country and rockabilly!

"Deep Trance" in general is not the most energetic dance music you're going to experience. It's not as catchy as deep house, and it's not as beautiful and floaty as full NRG trance. But this disc does contain pretty much all full length mixes of some individual tracks you'd be hard pressed to find even on 12" vinyl, let alone CD. It spans nearly 10 years of club music, including tracks from the mid to late 90s up to some big tracks of today. One thing to note is that Beachball by Nalin & Kane is the instrumental, not the vocal version. And I would have preferred the Blank & Jones mix of Walking on Fire by Evolution, rather than the Bedrock mix. Track times:

These arrangements are very poorly done and it's often hard to tell which of Sarah McLachlan's songs each of these "tributes" are trying to feel like. As a fan of Sarah's music, I found this very disappointing. The fact that two of the printed song titles: "aida", which should be ADIA, and "word on fire", which should be WORLD on Fire, are mispelled should be a further embarrassment to whomever produced or marketed this album. Mistakes like this are ridiculous, unprofessional and unneccessary... This album is not worthy of being associated with Sarah McLachlan and her strive for precision in her artistry in any way, shape or form.

What's the point of listening to Sarah's songs if you can't hear her beautiful voice singing them? This guitar tribute could have been worse. But like most tributes, ignore it.

This hastily thrown-together album is an amalgam of great dMb tracks that simply don't work. In short, this is a mistake, and only buying it could superscede such a horrible decision. This album is NOT close to what the band sounds like, and at points it sounds as if the musicians have never even listened to Dave and the guys.

Here's the point: if you like dMb, even the smallest bit, do not support these piece-o-junk compilated dedications. They amount to little more than no talent bums riding off of Dave's success. And might I add, they couldn't be doing a worse job if they tried.
