Alternative Rock Compilations music review Reflections of Leeza's Life
I look foward to this album Reflections being a big seller as I have watched with great interest in the way that Leeza has put together this wonderful memory of her mother so that it will reach out to others the need for the Memory Centres to help others. With hope the centres here in the UK will also connect with her so that the need for this robbing ilness be explained and a cure be found. Good luck to Leeza and her associates and God bless her mother. Don Murray Scotland UK

The free-format radio show, "Morning Becomes Eclectic," broadcasting from the Los Angeles-based station KCRW, is arguably the nation's most iconoclastic and influential program. This compilation of live, in-studio performances by some of today's Latin musicians, topped the iPod charts, and for good reason. In spirit with the show, this collection's diversity of North and South American, and Caribbean artists offers an impressive sonic census of the Hispanic, African, pop, and Brazilian influences that characterize that genre. Latin music really sizzles in this live context, whether it's the soothing sonorities of Omara Portuondo's bolero "No Me Vayas a Enganar," the Chicano rock of Los Lobos's "Carabina 30-30," or Ozomatli's Spanglish rap on "Saturday Night." If anything, this collection shows how rooted this music is in it’s acoustic, unplugged traditions, and how revolutionary it can be in its electronic expansions to other musical forms. --Eugene Holley, Jr.

Alternative Rock Compilations music reivew pretty good
The sounds eclectic 3 disc it's better but this is relaxing too, if you don't know about latin groups this is a good way to know that kind of sounds

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Great compilation of the best music sung in Spanish these days...
KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" has a well-earned reputation in indie radio circles, of introducing independent acts to the American public. U.S. and European acts that are initially unknown to most of us typically get exposed first in this program. So is the case with numerous acts that deliver their message not in English, but in Spanish. So, in the same tradition of the successful "Sounds Eclectic" compilations (the most recent one of which was released in early 2005), "Sounds Eclectico" does a magnificent job at presenting the work of some of the best acts that sing "en espaol" these days.

Though most of the songs on the album are not new to those familiar with the production of the artists included, it represents a great acoustic introduction to those unfamiliar with them. Most of the tracks come from the world of "Latin Rock", with a few exceptions: an exquisite bolero by Omara Portuondo, of Buena Vista Social Club fame; a mariachi performance by Los Lobos; and a lounge rendition by Thievery Corporation. All through the album, there is truly no weak point. It's solid from end to end. As for my favorites, I'd probably say they are Mexicans Cafe Tacuba and Kinky, Argentinean Juana Molina, Venezuelans Los Amigos Invisibles and the most global artist there will ever be: Manu Chao.

This album is a keeper and also a great compilation and an even better introduction to the best of what's around "south of the border".

Alternative Rock Compilations music review No solo suena eclectico, es eclectico
This is a great compilation of Latin America's Best Artists, I was completely amazed at the quality of work exerted in every single song presented in this masterpiece.

I highly recommend this item to anyone interested in music, art, and high culture. Beck's artwork rocks!

KCRW: Sounds Eclectic 3
Released in Audio CD by Palm Pictures (Audio (11 January, 2005)
Amazon base price: $14.98
Used price: $7.99
Buy one from zShops for: $10.44
Artist: Various Artists

Tracks:
  • It's The Sun - The Polyphonic Spree
  • Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, Pt. 1 - The Flaming Lips
  • The Blower's Daughter - Damien Rice
  • Flying High - Jem
  • Amongst Butterflies - Paul Weller
  • Go To Sleep - Radiohead
  • One Big Holiday - My Morning Jacket
  • Mirando De Lado - Kinky
  • Untitled - Interpol
  • Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand
  • Answer - Sarah McLachlan
  • Waitin' For A Superman - Iron & Wine
  • Jerusalem - Steve Earle
Live-in-studio performances are a radio staple in big cities coast-to-coast, but no one does it with the clout of Los Angeles station KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic program and its influential host Nic Harcourt. The most recent compilation of diverse recordings--without dubs or production tricks--will appeal to fans of any of the 13 artists and to those looking to inflate their music perspectives. The curtain opens with the Polyphonic Spree’s crescendo-building pop symphony spiritual "It’s the Sun," which quiets, then meshes into the Flaming Lips’ bare-bones reading of "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1." Damien Rice, Paul Weller and Radiohead all pull the plug on restrained, yet uniquely commanding performances before "eclectic" earns its title on My Morning Jacket’s blistering full-band rocker "One Big Holiday." After Interpol and Franz Ferdinand make stalwart contributions, Sarah McLachlan, accompanied only by a piano, recites in hushed tones why she is the "Answer," before a solo Steve Earle takes the listener on a journey to "Jerusalem." The poignant presentation by the rabble-rousing troubadour serves as an optimistic closer to another successful anthology. --Scott Holter

Alternative Rock Compilations music reivew sounds almoust eclectic
Yes...almoust eclectic. You've may heard the radio show hosted by Nick Harcourt, it es an eclectic one, you can catch from the most experimental to the mainstream, or the quiet to the louder, but this record isnt at all.

There's this sort of line to follow, despite the bands are real eclectic, within each other, the live presentations have similitudes, so maybe theres a louder or heavy act left.

The good thing here is the selection of groups and the production by the host of the show. Nice quality sound, good masterization, and a better selection of songs, untitled from Interpol, one big holiday from my morning jacket and the BD from Demian Rice are the best
As a conclusion the price is real worth the record and the effort of the public radio internatinal broadcast, and it is better if is purchased by amazon, speccially if you are over seas

Alternative Rock Compilations music reivew NOT for people who like their music mass-marketed
Sounds Eclectic 3 is the third in a series of live recordings made at KCRW (NPR 89.9 FM, Santa Monica CA).

This album features a variety of different musicians (hence the name eclectic), from The Flaming Lips to Franz Ferdinand.

Morning Becomes Eclectic, the radio show from which the live recordings were taken, has a fresh feel that contrasts with the canned, advertisement driven attitude of most other "popular" radio stations. This CD captures that feeling well, and makes transitions from one music genre to another without alienating the listener.

Why four stars, you ask? Eclectic-based music usually has at least one song that you won't like....

Interested in buying this but not sure if it's your style? Listen to Morning Becomes Eclectic (and other programs) at http://www.kcrw.com first.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review An Eclectic Mix of Live Performances
This collection of live recordings is taken from LA-based radio station K-CRW's "Sounds Eclectic" series of broadcasts. Each performance was recorded live in their studios with the choicest tracks being released on this great CD. The tracks cover a wide variety of music genres: from Kinky's Spanish-language track "Mirando De Lado" and the bombastic and joyful "It's the Sun" from The Polyphonic Spree to more mellow tracks such as "Answer" from Sarah McLachlan and the quielty beautiful "The Blower's Daughter" from Damien Rice. There's a little bit of everything, and that's what makes this a great recording - it introduces you to artists to which you may not normally lend an ear. Favorite tracks: "Amongst Butterflies" by Paul Weller and "Flying High" by Jem.

Does the world need another Bob Dylan rendition? Is handing in your take on Dylan an artistic rite of passage? The answer to these 40-year-old questions is long gone and we must simply concern ourselves with the quality of the version(s) we're exposed to--are they respectful interpretations, paint-by-numbers remakes, or lazy cast-offs? Drive-Thru's unexpected, though top-notch, Listen to Bob Dylan collects 21 takes on a wide range of Dylan's work. Nothing seems hasty here, and when artists choose to rearrange they do so with skepticism-easing care. Anberlin's "Like a Rolling Stone" adds a new aggressive twist without thrashing it. Cerys Matthews's rendition of "I Believe in You" is in the dreamy spirit of Nico's now 30-year-old "I'll Keep it With Mine." Australia's great Kisschasy gives "She Belongs to Me" a perfect modern power-pop position--consider the song is older than any band member here--and Dave Melillo's "It Ain't Me Babe" assignment is as believable as any version of this song ever. The worst that can be said about this collection is that superstar Jason Mraz sounds uninspired and the Rock 'N' Roll Soldiers should have picked just about anything other than "Rainy Day Women." --Peter Hilgendorf

Alternative Rock Compilations music reivew WORST THING EVER
Bob Dylan is a legend. This is trash. Drive Thru Records is a joke for trying to make a tribute album to Dylan. These musicians are not talented they are just "cute in their female jeans and shaggy hair". Do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy this record. They have turned a musical god into a crappy trend. Grab a reggae tribute instead, there is actually talent in it.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review easy listening
I found this cd to be so much more than I expected. It is so great to hear Dylan's songs retouched by individual artists. Every song is different while keeping a steady flow of easy listening music. It was also a surprise to find James Blunt among the group of artists. Roark and Steel Train are my favorites but I really enjoy it all.

Alternative Rock Compilations music review Great Dylan Tribute
I bought this cd because I like Dylan and my teenaged kids do, too. They introduced me to "emo" groups and I am open to listening to all music. I don't like all emo bands but some of the bands on this particular cd did a great job. I particularly like Dave Melillo - he has a voice that actually sounds trained. Another great is Jason Mraz who does a wonderful job. I agree with everyone that Rainyday should've been dumped - I've never liked it. Give this cd a chance and don't put people down because they are young ... still learning and growing. Remember Dylan was young once, too :)
