Good album, great cause. This album has something for almost everybody, ranging from blues to acoustic to folk. It sounded weird at first, but it grew on me, and now I think that it totally rocks. It makes it all the better that the proceeds from this go to support the PLP. If you like some of the bands on this record, or are just looking to support a good cause, get it.

one of the best series goes onAnother strong entry from this series that keeps getting better and better with each year. Here are gems from Ani DiFranco, a rocker from Peter Droge, and the raspy overtones of Graham Parker's "Howling Wind". Stage releases always focus on diversity and the connection the artist has with a live audience. Add this one to your collection.

How can a compilation be any better? When my eyes first scanned the song list of this particular album, my heart skipped a beat...I knew that I had found the perfect electronic music compilation. From start to finish, I heard all of my favorite house, trance, and techno songs, including Moloko's "Sing It Back", Armand Van Helden's "Don't Know Me", and Sneaker Pimp's "Spin Spin Sugar". I found myself saying a dozen times, "Oh yeah, I love this song when I hear it at the club...but I never knew what it was called!" Every single one of my friends bought this album after hearing the titles alone, and we listen to it constantly. Despite the steep price, this import compilation is worth every cent because it delivers such a cohesive, exciting, and fresh group of songs all in one product. For these reasons and many more, I strongly suggest purchasing Loved Up.

ExcellentI only bought this CD because it was Maxim. I'd only heard two songs on the whole album. But it is an excellent CD. Great when you want to rock; great when you want something a little softer. You can't beat it.

Couldn't make a better mix CD myselfI bought this CD for the new Guster song, but was overwhelmingly surprised and pleased by the quality of the songs in general. Some of the songs are overplayed (John Mayer and Jimmy Eat World), but at least they have different versions. My only complaint is that they put the Hives and the Vines back to back- as if it's not already hard enough to tell the difference between the two of them. Buy this for Guster, OK Go, Norah Jones, and Phantom Planet, and you'll find yourself loving all the other songs in between.

All the thrill of NascarThis CD is hot. The tracks all tie in very well to the Nascar theme. Most of them were heard in snippets on the many Nascar race broadcasts, and now your able to enjoy the whole song. Overall a very good follow up to the previous CD.

Nice SamplerBack in the days before The Man came down HARD on my freeloading usage of the company T1 to listen to Internet radio, I would tune in of an evening to the Late Lounge show on JazzFM. Man...those Brits excel in at least two fields: soccer hooliganism and digging up loads of neglected chill and jazzy tunes.
You might recognize some of the artists gathered together here: Garbage (covering a Massive Attack number), Groove Armada, Dusty Springfield, Moby, Minnie Riperton, Beth Orton, and Fun Lovin' Criminals among others. A lot of tunes--this is a two-CD set.
I found the second disk to be a bit weak. Orton's contribution is not one of her strongest songs, and you can pick up Springfield's "The Look Of Love" practically anywhere. I can't tolerate Erykah Badu, and if they were gonna include the Sneaker Pimps, I wish they had gone for a deeper cut than the well-known "6 Underground".
The first disk I liked much better, particularly its second half. The late Riperton's soaring, aching "Inside My Love" alone was worth the price of admission. And the piece by Underworld was also well-done. You can skip right past Moby's offering, though.
If you've ever listened to the Late Lounge show, then this is a disk for you. If you need to get mellow, unwind, and sedately get your groove-thang on in a quasi-English way, you should pick this up. If you like hard-rockin' shrieking distorted guitars and ear-drum bursting walls of sound...uh...look elsewhere.

Pretty Good Double DiscRemember the Chill-out era? That magical time between 1998-2003 where the market was completely and utterly saturated with chillout compilations? At the forefront were the Ministry of Sound series' which were incredibly canibalistic (some albums had the same songs on them, especially the 'annual' recaps) and the Ultra series. I mention these because this album is from that time period - 2002, put together by Jazzfm. If you've lived in England or been, one thing that will stand out like the previous reviewer stated will be the great music on the radio stations. A few channels have terrific programming and just... quality.
This really is a terrific set of songs. Disc one has some of the heavy-hitters of the genre, including a healthy dosage of Zero-7 who were wildly popular then. Goldfrapp and The Underwolves follow and then you've got some great keys and cool vibes from Kinobe and Nitin Sawhney. There were too cuts on this one though that stood out, and to me that was Aim's "The Force" and Minnie Riperton's classic "Inside My Love" shows her breath-taking range. However Disc-two is a bit of a let-down. Groove Armada's "At the River" kicks the disc off but then there's a bit of filler in-between; the Beth Orton cut's a head-scratcher, not one of her better tunes. Sneaker Pimp's "6 Underground" was a popular track years before and I admittedly still do love the song and was glad they provided the entire un-cut version. Other top cuts on this one were Victor Davies "Sound of the Samba", King Britt's beat laden remix to Bebel Gilberto's "August Day Song" and a downright chilling version of "Milk" done by Garbage. If you really want to hear a cool mix of that track, check out Euphoria "Chilled Out" and see how it's sandwiched between a Nitin Sawhney track and then fades into Beanfield's "Charles". But... I digress...
I liked this album and recommend it. While the price may be a bit steep, you can find it on the cheap in a few other outlets now. It's got some quality cuts and neither of the discs have cross-faded tracks, they're all stand-alone. Disc one was clearly the stronger of the two but even then the disc had some neat tunes on it. If yo uliked this, by all means check out the second edition of this series too which was IMO equally as nice and a few other JazzFM comps. Remember that this is a bit of a downtempo album from 2002, so be careful of overlapped tracks if you picked up lots of chillout compilations in that time period.

Great Compilation From Late LoungeThis CD is a must for anyone familiar with London's Jazz FM's show, the Late Lounge. Weeknights from Midnight - 3AM GMT (7PM-10PM EST), Rosie Kendrick plays a great mix of chilled out tracks. You can listen to Jazz FM from anywhere in the world via their website. Definitely worth checking out.
