American Alternative music review A Classic !!!
I bought this excellent import (Japan, 1997)CD Single on Oct-2000, Catalog #: MVCT-12002 (IND-95532) which contains the following songs:

1. ONE HEADLIGHT (radio edit) 4:38
2. 6TH AVENUE HEARTACHE (acoustic version) 4:57
3. ANGEL ON MY BIKE (live) 4:46

If you want this tracks.., don't worry, get the imported version of "Bringing Down the Horse" [extra tracks] CD which contains the acoustic version and live track (not the radio edit) along with 'USED TO BE LUCKY' not included on the US edition of that album.
This CD Single also includes the lyric of 'One Headlight' in english and Japanese. It is a must have for any Wallflowers fan.

American Alternative music review Ahhh, that's better.
In a mess of Pearl Jam/Nirvana ... groups [on] the airwaves ... it only serves me right to go back and listen to one of my favorite rock singles. "One Headlight" is a great song about relationships and features incredible muscisianship. Why aren't the Wallflowers popular anymore? The lead singer Jakob Dylan (yes, the son of Bob Dylan)'s lower smokey voice with electric guitars mixed with organs make "One Headlight" one of the best singles ever released. I especially like the long rock instrumental at the end. If you think Rock hasn't gone down hill today on the pop charts, just listen to this song as well as stuff from Collective Soul ("heaven let your light shine down") and Hootie & The Blowfish ("I only wanna be with you"). Then you'll see why Rock nowadays is in a crisis mode. Anyways, get this single and their album "Bringing Down The Horse"...a classic. A+

American Alternative music review The best there is!
One headlight is so inspiring that it could turn a bad relationship to a good one! No surprise it made my dreams come true! The lyrics, the beat, the artist..everything is so beautiful! I won't last a day without hearing it!

American Alternative music review Great Start to a Promising Career
John Gregory's debut "Pictures From Home" demonstrates his undeniable talent as a singer, songwriter and guitar player.

His soulfulness and passion shine through each nook and cranny of the disc. With his honest, lighthearted lyrics and fervent vocal delivery, songs such as the John Shanks-produced lead-single "Ride of Your Life" are ripe for reeling in fans.

There is most definitely a theme behind this collection of songs that is blissfully ignorant; he looks at the world like a starry-eyed, ever-optimistic young child. An ideal example is "Stronger Than Gravity":

"I'm no angel/Ain't got no wings/But I'd tie a kite to my back with/Shoelaces and string/And climb the tallest mountain/Whether I fly or fall/I'll get to you someway/I would crawl."

Gregory also has what a record company executive would call "mass appeal." In other words, he has the ability to reach more than one group of people. The music on "Pictures From Home" sounds like it would be equally at home in the CD player of someone who is 5 as someone who is 65. Although his romanticism in several of the album's tracks could win him a fanbase of screaming girls, he manages to offer subjects and songs for everyone.

By the time the upbeat "Blue With Blue" is reached, it is a surprising realization that most of the album has already passed by. Indeed, songs such as "Long Goodbye" and the hit-worthy "Up Against My Heart" are easy to get lost in with their liveliness and sing-a-long choruses.

Exuberant, joyous, naive, quirky and authentic, Gregory and his music are a breath of fresh air.

American Alternative music review I must have CD
This CD brings me back to the days of Great Songwriting that puts a smile on your face. This is what Good ole American Music was and still is. Something all generations can enjoy. Some of my Favorites are "Long Goodbye" and "Miles Away".

American Alternative music review Clear picture of what John wants to say with his music
I liked it a lot. I like rock and roll but not hard rock, johns lyrics are touching and caring. I was able to listen and actually make out the words to each song !..I like it!

Left of the Dial is a telling title for a CD that begins with a track from the ultimate college-radio band. One of three in the Postpunk Chronicles series by Rhino (also including Scared to Dance and Going Underground), this compilation launches with R.E.M.'s "Radio Free Europe" and includes the big "hits" from some of the most important college-rock bands of the '80s, including Joy Division, New Order, the Chameleons, and Cocteau Twins. Some unexpected tracks also surface. Modern English's compellingly eerie "Smiles and Laughter" is chosen over the infamous "I Melt With You"--the single that put the band in the purgatory of one-hit wonderland. Thomas Dolby's wistful "Airwaves," meanwhile, makes the cut over his MTV-storming "She Blinded Me with Science." Many of these selections contain residual musical and lyrical punk themes, but these songs are safer, softened by reverberating guitars, keyboards, and lyrics that aren't as angry as they were politely desperate. It's music that raises a collective middle finger to the world, though that digit was begloved in red leather, tilted by a wrist surrounded by Swatches. --Beth Bessmer

American Alternative music review Best of College "New Wave 80's" Radio
When I played this "labor of college DJ love" CD from Rhino, I felt like I was back in my old apartment in San Jose in the mid- 80's. Those were the days, when I would crawl home from clubbing at the Keystone and One Step Beyond and heavily annoy the other tenants with my "weird" musical taste.

Virtually all the tracks on this CD were staples on our college station (KFJC) play list. My favorite tracks are the bouncy upbeat "Do you dream in color?", R.E.M.s groundbreaking "Radio Free Europe", the mighty power punk/pop "In Shreds", the wonderful dreamy Passions tune as well as the new wave waltze by Cocteau Twins, and the stark moody "Pink Frost ". Okay, I just singled out half the tracks on the CD as awesome. The rest of the songs on this CD are great too.

Since I have been buying lots of 80's music recently, this CD is simply an incredible win. In fact, this CD reminded me that I used to love the band The Chameleons for a very good reason (they still rule).

Don't hesitate, buy this CD and revel in fantastic music.

American Alternative music review The moodier, darker side of the 80s
A superb collection of alternative 80s tracks...I have purchased all 3 "Post-Punk Chronicles" CDs, and this is far the best one.

American Alternative music review A nostalgia trip to the days when "alternative" really was.
If you ever had a crush on Molly Ringwald or Andrew McCarthy, this is the album for you. What a wonderful trip back in time to the days when listening to this music meant you had to 1. dress in black 2. wear lots of mousse or hair gel and 3. be totally un-hip to the cool crowd. The influence of Joy Division on the early 1980s is rampant here, as you get a really good taste of the importance of "creating a mood" that affected other bands like The Cure and U2. I consider this music a cross between punk, psychedelic and pop. Definitely a must-have for anyone who is nostalgic for the days of Cocteau Twins and Joy Division.

Darol Anger isn't the sort of musician who stretches musical boundaries; he's the sort of musician who refuses to concede that such boundaries even exist. On Republic of Strings he and his American Fiddle Ensemble use relatively simple tunes such as Irish fiddler Liz Carroll's "Lost in the Loop" or Bill Monroe's "Old Dangerfield" as a starting point to create harmonically complex, rhythmically rich arrangements. The band consists of guitarist Scott Nygaard, the brilliant young fiddler Brittany Haas, cellist Rashad Eggleston, and Natalie Haas, who takes Eggleston's place on three tracks. Guest artists include Nickel Creek's Sara Watkins, who lends vocals to a slightly spooky version of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground," and Laurie Lewis, who delivers a bluegrass-tinged take on Joni Mitchell's "Help Me." You might call this improvised Afro-Scandinavian Irish old-time string band music, but it would be equally true, and much simpler, to just say they play great music. --Michael John Simmons

American Alternative music review There are two kinds of dominant personalities in the world--
--those that surround themselves with sycophants and those that associate with their peers or betters.

Darol Anger is distinctly of the latter type. The musicians he has chosen to play with on this altogether remarkable disc are every bit his peers, if not his superiors. The result is a disc of magnificent presence and accomplishment.

Perhaps the standout characteristic of this astounding music is the diversity of material Anger has managed to round up and "break" (as one might a wild bronc) within its purview: everything from Irish traditional ("Lost in the Loop") to Detroit soul ("Higher Ground") to Kentucky bluegrass ("Old Dangerfield") to elay folk-rock ("Help Me" [nearly unrecognizable, it must be said], featuring the eartheral vocals of Laurie Lewis) to Villa-Lobos-like Brazilian-classical ("Andre de Sabato Nuovo") to smart swing ("Sneezin'") to Arabic ("Ouditras Rez") to gospel/blues ("Evening Prayer Blues") to African ("Dzinomwa Muna Save") to Scandinavian fiddle music ("Sand").

Surrounding himself with up-and-coming musicians of the absolute top rank (wildly creative fiddle player Brittany Haas; hugely underregarded flat-picking guitarist Scott Nygard, practically the peer of David Grier; monster cellist Rushad Eggleston), Anger has upped the ante of string-band music almost off the charts, with us, the listeners, being the beneficiaries.

Rhapsodic gloriousness of the first order: You snooze, you lose. Plus, contains a hidden mysterioso track that contextualizes the proceedings with gravitas beyond the call of duty.

    Transcendent.

American Alternative music review An accomplished master is reborn!
Fans of progressive acoustic music think they know Darol Anger, but they won't know what hit them after they hear this! It seems like most musicians of Darol's generation are content to mine existing veins, settling into a cosy twilight. Not Anger -- here he's paired with two amazing young musicians (cellist Rushad Eggleston and fiddler Brittany Haas) and, along with under-rated flatpicker Scott Nygaard, use the techniques he has developed over years of exploration to enliven a new set of music drawn from all over the world. The guitar and cello are an unexpectedly forceful rhythm section, driving Anger and Haas to new levels of invention and intensity. But this isn't all about flash: the slower, more spacious tunes are amazingly empathetic -- bordering on telepathy. It's great to hear someone like Darol still testing the limits of his music...if you're new to his music, or haven't heard him in a while, here's where you pick up.

American Alternative music review Hot Licks, Cold Steel, and Trucker's Favorites
One way to escape the cheesy pop that passes for today's country music is to listen to some truck drivin' tunes that speak to the blue collar roots of real country music. This fine collection contains a number of classics updated by contemporary artists as well as tunes by the original artists. Highlights of this CD are Junior Brown's collaboration with the great Red Simpson on Red's classic "Nitro Express" which is as good as their collaboration on "Semi-Crazy" from the album by the same name. The Yayhoos update the genre with their raucous take on "Highway Junkie" while Bill Kirchen gears it up on "Semi-Truck." The songs by the women seem weaker to me because truck driving tunes just sound better when sung by a man. These songs tend to fall into the I'm-left-all-alone-while-my-man-is-on-the-road category like Kay Adams "Mama Was a Rock."

But that's a minor quibble. Get yourself this collection of truck driving CDs for your next long road trip; it'll make the hours on the freeway fly by.

American Alternative music review AMAZON.COM Has The Greatest Truckdrivin CD Of All-Time!!
This album is the best thing that has ever happened to truckdrivers since coffee and rest stops. Rig Rock Deluxe captures the feelings, plights of courage, and comradere of the unsung american hero- The Truckdriver. This album explores issues of the "absent husband syndrome" in a jammin song by Kay Adams and BRS-59, and existential spiritual questions that we all ponder as we trek across the open road, "Will There Be Big Rigs in Heaven" by Buck Owens and His Buckaroos. A great must hear album. Makes a great gift for anyone who has driven over eight hours to get somewhere. Check it out!

i am a huge fan of dmb. i've been to many concerts traveling 600 miles to see them. i recently met dave and carter. but this cd was great, it reminded me of many concerts

American Alternative music review If your a real fan-get this single!!!!!
Dave Matthews Band definitely has alot to say!! This is evident on this single. Although this single contains the studio recording of "so much to say" which isnt new to anyone, it is the recording of #41 that is truely striking! The live version of #41 demonstrates how Dave can paint a colorful and moving image with his voice through his ability to reach many different depths and ranges. The guitar work by both Matthews and Tim Reynolds is outstanding! The power of Daves voice and the strength of Tim's performance truely exhibit what this song is all about. A must have for any fan!

American Alternative music review Great Band!!!! Great CD!!!!! Great DVD!!!!!
I discovered Sonia Dada by accident.... and that was a good thing... the DVD is excellent and the album as a whole just blows you away. 'Moons of Jupiter' is obviously the flagship of the album, but that doesn't mean that the other songs are any less.... 'Saturday' and 'Dark Visions' are ecellent tracks as well. 'Diggin On A Road' falls back to the roots of Sonia Dadas Chicago Blues sound, but the other songs are just as good. I am a serious Sonia Dada fan now, and have just bought all their earlier albums as well.

I would recommend checking out www.soniadada.com to check out extras sounds and visions by the band.

American Alternative music review Next Generation of music
I am a newer Sonia Dada fan (<3years). The music is top notch. It hosts thier normal talents (vocal and instruments). The reason I am writing this review is to showcase the DVD.

The center piece of the DVD is a 30 minute video. The video has most of the songs from the CD. In and of itself, the video is artistic and of the quality you would expect from Sonia Dada. The highlight for me is; the music that accompanies the video has been remastered to 5.1 audio; (remastered NOT converted).

The 5.1 remastered tracks makes this 30 minute segement the most impressive audio in a long time.

If you have a surround system you should purchase this DVD/CD. It may cause you to upgrade your system to live up to the quality of this DVD. If you already have a surround system that can handle more then the normal movie sound track, then you should buy this and invite all of your fiends over to make them jelousy (and share this experience).

    Enjoy.

American Alternative music review What a Find!
I found this band from a great compilation put together by an independent radio station in Bloomington, IN: www.wttsfm.com on their annual Collector's Edition CD. Old Bones is a great song. Great rhythms, harmonies, and cool lyrics. Got to love the free download!! I'll be buying this CD as a result. You can always count on WTTS to come up with new progressive sounds, and this is a keeper!!

I think a true talent has entered our presence. Let's rejoice.... Their work with Carlos Santana on Supernatural should not be overlooked.

American Alternative music review Excellent version of Jimi Thing
I've been a Dave Matthew's band for a long time. His style is definitely unigue and I believe a modern day music genius. The version of Jimi thing on this short CD is outstanding especially with the jamming guitar of Tim Reynolds backing up Dave. The ending has the exact chord progression of the lead in song to Rapunzel from Before These Crowded Streets. Highly recommend this CD.

American Alternative music review A Beautiful Listening Experience
A punishing disk. stripped down, dirty, and brutal...it loosens fillings, fuses vertebrae, causes nosebleeds...everything I could ask for. In particular, Get Away, SOS, and Body Bomb provide a perfect soundtrack to bludgeoning (this is a good thing!)
A great companion on long stretches of highway.

American Alternative music review Unsane get gloomy, but the results are still painful.
This isn't your typical Unsane album. The songs are slow, plodding, the drums and vocals buried in the mix, with a guitar strung with screen-door wire. But it works. This is their last recording with original bassist Pete Shore, and the first since the death of original drummer Charlie Ondras. The record is like a funeral and a divorce at the same time: you've just lost someone and you feel another loss coming. It's dark, brooding, and very punishing. Songs like "Broke," "Black Book" and "Get Away" deliver the usual Unsane thwack, but on closer inspection, "Throw it Away" approaches being beautiful, and "S.O.S." is almost an easy-going rock song. Almost. Maybe not pure Unsane, but this record is a post-punk classic.
