Hey man, can I pet your panda?I'm not that kind of zookeeper! Pookey Bleum's newest assortment of power pop goodness, titled "Lo-Fi Rainbow," is simply delicious. All twelve songs have memorable moments, from "Tasty"'s ultra-catchy chorus of "We sound tasty to the lions" to "Uptight"'s rapid-fire vocals to "Really Believe"'s extended instrumental ending. This band just keeps getting better and better. Their clever lyrics are delivered with consistently sugary sweet vocal harmonies that I can't get out of my head, and there is plenty of crunchy guitar to rock my world. Anyway, this cd has not let my cd player in over a week. It's that good! Buy it! Now!

If you like Sebadoh, your gonna love this.Lou Barlow teams up with sister Abbey, wife Kathleen, and drummer Bob Fay, to create this lo-fi ditty. Most of the songs appeared on "Most of the Worst, Some of the Best" released by Shrimper, but songs like "Queen of the Scene" make this album well worth the repeats. Plus, you could probably never find that Shrimper album ever again. As usual, Lou's candid lyrics seem to melt the darkest of hearts.

MesmerizingBeautiful, country-tinged pop and folk with a dash of psychedelic sweetness. Edith Frost's songwriting acumen is superb, leaving most other indie twits in the dust.

Bliss. Rapture. Heaven. Paradise. You will never regret buying this disc. Like Songs of You and Me, this is a combo-CD of two (amazing) albums: Seizure and Croaker. Chris Knox is a Master of Lo-Fi. He is a one-man Punk Opera waiting to happen. Magnetic Fields fans will know Knox from his work with Stephin Merritt in the Sixths. For my money, those two are dukin' it out for Best Songwriter of Our Times. If a Chris Knox song and a Magnetic Fields song were attacked in an alley by a Beck song, they would beat it and leave it, wondering what just happened. Knox's lyrics are convoluted, irreverent, self-effacing, poetic, usually funny and sometimes heart-breaking. His melodies are like bubble gum for your brain that never ever loses its flavor. Get this disc. You'll thank me later.

Here Come the Fear JetsThis album makes me think of the days when John Cale had us all living in a state of fear and Brian Eno was calling in the warm jets. Highest recommendations.

Fantastic stuff. This is quite the CD. Folk-noise pop-rock? Alastair Galbraith pieces together 23 sketchy mini-compositions that start and stop whenever they like, and consist (sometimes) of folky acoustic strumming, weird noodling, scratchy electric feedback and Galbraith's charming croon, all taped at home on a dinky recorder. Sounds great, like it just somehow all HAPPENED of its own accord. This CD compiles the Morse LP and Gaudylight 7" (both now extremely out of print), plus "Cranes" as a little bonus somewhere between. Mysterious, kinda disturbing, but ultimately reassuring. Get it - love it!
