Could be considered a best ofThis cd is amazing. A lot of the best songs are on here, if you can find them I suggest also picking up Grim-Stroke-Disease and Grow-Speed-Injection. The best songs on this cd are Braintrash and Scodrom. The Swamp Terrorists totally prove they can put on a great live show with this cd.

Good follow up!May I dare to say that this album is better than his previous effort on mute records. Well, it's better in the sense that it's more accessible.
This is electronic hardcore music at its best!

Maybe not Gothic, but certainly raucously good fun.The Cruxshadows are an absolute delight for the high octane synthpop/EBM fanatic who has dark and gothic tendancies. In fact I am surprised that this band is not mentioned more in Synth/EBM circles, although I suppose some might take that classification as an insult( I don't think it is ). While I do have a hard time calling this album 'Goth' when comparing it in the shadow of the magnificent "Mystery of the Whisper", I can say that the band certainly know how to pull out all the stops when it comes to making a quality EP( Yes, this is actually an EP, but you'd never believe it ).
Rogue's vocals are amazingly emotional and the poetry seasoned throughout in the lyrics is top notch--But that's nothing new. Every song is brilliant and beautiful, especially Citadel, which is interpreted on this album a LOT. But I'm not complaining. Every version of the song is like hearing it for the first time. It is not merely remixed for dancefloor purposes or to appeal to diehards who want as many alternate versions as possible, it is by far what might have REALLY been meant by the term 'reinterpretation'. Each version is completely different yet strangely beautiful, and the whole 13 track disc could easily pass as a whole album( well, it truly is, let's not kid ourselves here ). The soundscapes vary from a brooding moodiness( Eyes to Heaven, Winterborn ) to utter frenzied pandamonium( Dragonfly, Citadel ) and yet they are a unified body of work that you wont mind listening to over and over, no matter your mood.
I admit that it initially took me a short while to warm up to "Fortress in Flames". I cannot sing enough Praise for "The Mystery of the Whisper" and would indeed recommend it over this album if you're looking for a more gothic sound. That is why I was initially taken aback a bit at 'Fotress..'. As great as it is, it does not have a lot of the instrumental experimentation that "Mystery.." had, such as the haunting violins and dark organ sounds that distinguished Mystery as eerie and 'Gothic". Of course everyone has their opinion of what goth really is but I think this album clearly falls into the dancefloor EBM catagory, albeit with superior lyrics and a unique charisma that most bands of that genre lack.
If you're looking for some Gothic sounds, dig a little deep into the CXS catalog. But if you love electronic music that's deep and dark, then I can't stress my recommendation enough.

I Love This Cd, Best Band Ever.I listen to Fortress in Flames over and over everyday. I love it aswell as everything The Cruxshadows make. This Cd has great electronic tunes and fun dance beats. I catch myself dancing and moving everywhere whenever I listen to it. I recommend it to every Cruxshadows fan, it is a great CD. And for those who have never listened to The Cruxshadows, you should give this CD a try. I'm sure you'll fall in love with them just as I have. There is so much talent behind their music and Rogue is the master of great music. I would love to meet him and the band to tell them how much their music means to me. Give them a try, I know you'll be pleased.

Definitely Worth ItGreat interpretations on the mixes. My favorite is definitely the Razed in Black mix of "Cassandra", that alone makes this CD worth it.
Not to mention the Clan of Xymox remix of "Never Surrender", the Neuroactive remix of "Love & Hatred" or the Subway to Sally remix of "Winterborn".
I have to agree that Dragonfly is my favorite new song of the bunch.
All in all, very diverse and clever.

Artist: X Marks the Pedwalk
Tracks:
- Zest
- Repression
- Swastika
- Express My Sentiments Exactly
- The Shot
- Helpless
- Battered Babies
- Church For Snow White
- Epilouge: Desert In Dawn
- Feast Of The Ressurection
- I See You (Second View)
- No Premonition (Re-Edit)
- Paranoid Illusions (Sky Mix)
- Interruption
Despite a silly name that conjures up images of a pirate narrating a drivers' ed film, Germany's X Marks the Pedwalk construct some rather serious music (let's face it, with song titles like "Swastika" and "Battered Babies," they're not exactly in line to play the Catskills). This U.S. reissue of their 1991 debut, previously available only as an import, was long overdue, and those familiar with the smoother industrial techno-pop of more recent XMTP discs like Drawback are in for a surprise: This band used to scream and pound and pummel as competently as any other group brought up on a steady diet of Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly. Yeah, sure, some of the material may sound dated, but tracks like "Church for Snow White," with its Klinik-like percussive assault, and the atmospheric "Repression," with its looped samples of Martin Luther King Jr., are industrial classics. Sadly, their early club hit "Abbatoir" is missing from this reissue, but those who already own the import will want this disc for the four bonus tracks Metropolis Records so generously tacked on. --Steve Landau

Freaks like me!Joseph E. Scalia's tale of Hildy and her friends shows what high school can be like for teenagers not deemed by their classmates as the "in crowd." His years of teaching high school English and Creative Writing on Long Island, New York gave him the ability to draw accurate depictions of the many varied players that make up the game of fitting in. FREAKs shows how three classic "misfits" can find a way to celebrate their different-ness and experience successful relationships. A reader of this delightful and encouraging novel will experience the range of emotions from disappointment and grief to pride and happiness. Scalia scores a hit with FREAKs that will be enjoyed by readers of all ages, but more importantly will be thoroughly appreciated by teenagers experiencing the angst of surviving the dreaded junior and high school years.

Excellent noise rockThis EP is not for the faint of heart, but it certainly is a fitting swan song for one of Chicago's best noise bands ever. Shorty's previous album, Thumb Days, set a seemingly impossible precedent with its insurmountable wall of noise and obnoxious vocals; however, Fresh Breath condenses and delivers every bit of that in a 15 minute syncopated package. Outstanding!

If you've only got [$$] left to your name, buy this CDThis was the first Consolidated CD I ever bought, and I was lucky enough to buy it at a Consolidated show. I saw them open up for Meat Beat Manifesto in the Spring of '92, and was in awe of both bands. First of all, I've never seen a band stop their show multiple times to allow people to come up on stage and start heated debates about abortion, oil, the war in the Persian Gulf, Gay Rights, Meat eating, our Patriarchal society, our Klansman President, etc. But beyond their live performance, this CD is phenomenal, and if you don't have it, your home audio collection is suffering. This is the only CD I've reviewed to date that I've given 5 stars. A little less industrial than their 1990 release "The Myth of Rock," this CD is jammed full of true rap songs. I put these dudes up there with Beck and the Beastie Boys as the most talented, sincere white rappers of our time. On no other CD of their's will you find the heated debates between concert goers as on this album. From a marine yelling, I THINK YOU ALL ARE HYPOCRITES, AND I'D LIKE YOU TO DEFEND YOURSELVES to left-wing liberals bashing the bible, skinheads, ignorant men who oppress women, and the rediculous idea of going to war over oil, this CD is a must have. I love putting this CD on at my house when I have guests over who know nothing of the Consolidated "movement".......it always sparks crazy debates! Especially when a woman is heard on the CD comparing The U.S. to Nazi Germany, saying that a woman's body is not hers; IT BELONGS TO THE STATE. I know it sounds crazy, but this might be one of the most important, relevant, critical recordings of the 90's, and you'd be hard pressed to find another CD that says so much and jams so hard. The music is terrific and can stand on it's own without the lyrics and issues being argued! Whether you agree with their platform or not (I disagree with many of their rantings, but can accept their viewpoint), it's refreshing to hear such a pro-active and alternative yet peaceful voice in America....

I love love love this cd!It was a late night, and I turned on a local station. What to my ears should appear, but this band called Attrition. Instantly, I knew that I must get this cd. The cd is a mixture of light to dark a balance of beauti. It features bands like: LSD, Attrition, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Lycia, and others. For me, it was a great introduction to theese bands, and the Projekt lable as a whole. Volume 2 is very nice, but In my oppinion, this cd is a great beginner for anyone not familure with the Projekt lable. From Lycia, to LSD and beyond the power of this work is felt.

"November Dream" is the only reason to own this..Usherhouse simply failed here.. As the title says, the only possible reason to own this CD is the song "November Dream" - In my opinion the best song they ever released and it's utterly amazing, if only anything else on this release were 1/10th as good. I can almost justify an extra star for that song but I decided against it =P
If your going to get an Usherhouse CD get their first release "Molting" its much better, but even at that - "November Dream" is their only stake to salvation as far as I'm concened.
This CD is selling used for 43 CENTS used at the time I'm writing this and thats 42 cents too much if you already have the compilation disc "Gothik" (has "November Dream" on it, mislabeled as "November Rain").

A Band Ahead of the TimesI first saw Usherhouse and was amazed at their ingenuity with music. The drummer plays off of a sequencer and triggers the most surreal and haunting sounds I have ever heard - AND his tribal drumming is electric and primal. The singer has this scream... unlike any animal I have heard and he deals full-fledged blows with his lyrics - some dealing with his time & experiences spent in the army stationed in Germany and Europe. This CD is pivotal for many other bands who are attempting to write songs that have meaning and force without fitting into the tightly packaged song structure of 3 minutes and you're done. Listen to this CD and you'll go places.
