Industrial music review Not your nouveau Spahn Ranch.
Admittedly, I haven't heard much of Spahn Ranch's newer material (last album I heard was "Beat Noir", which I didn't particularly care for). But I think I can safely say that this old release is quite different from what they're putting out nowadays. For one thing, this features a different vocalist, Scott Franklin, who doesn't sound much like Athan Maroulis. I'd first heard them on the first edition of Cleopatra's "Industrial Revolution" compilation, which featured this EP's "Mind Riot" (I think it was replaced by "Succumber" on later editions). "Mind Riot", "Layin' To Burn", "See My Knife", and "P.O.W." are all great pieces of early '90s industrial music.

Industrial music review Don't Let The Title Scare You
Although I don't like the title, the music is worth listening to, I just skip the first song. Even though some parts are like Nitzer Ebb and White Zombie, Oomph! doesn't weigh to heavy on them and becomes a band with it's own style. So far I can't stop listening to this CD several times in a row when I feel like hearing it.

Industrial music review another awesome live show
this was the only US show played live in '98 (san francisco), before a short gig in the ether for a live radio broadcast later that weekend. this cd absolutly rocks! a bit heavier sounding than "live underslunky" but i've always been a sucker for ed's guitar work. another great effort from a truely amazing band!

Industrial music review Definitely a hard-hitter
Although I am not familiar with Terminal Sect, I can say that this solo side project is pretty good. Some standard dance-floor industrial, but some twists and turns too, and it rocks none the less. Overall, one of the best debut-releases by a band that hasn't put anything else out (am I right on this? I hope not) that's pretty solid all the way through.

      Industrial music review not bad
Porcupine Defense is a side project from Colin Schwen of Terminal Sect. Sounds very similar to Terminal Sect and manages to still be pretty hard-hitting without the use of guitar.
Black Pearl (pillar of salt part II) is probably the highlight of this album. The rest of the CD is pretty good industrial music, and all sounds sort-of the same... Still an awesome CD.

Industrial music review An MBM classic remastered
This is one of my favorite MBM releases. From what I've heard, Jack Dangers remastered it, so the sound quality is a little better than it was on previous releases although I personally haven't been able to detect too much of a difference from the previous CD version. I think it's a little more bass-rich.

Industrial music review MBM's debut rocks.
This album was created after the original master tapes for MBM's intended debut record were destroyed in a studio fire. Despite that, it's an incredible and very strong effort full of great hip-hop influenced beats, funky guitars, funky basslines, Jack Dangers' suprisingly masterful rapping, and plenty of cool samples. This is where it all began. And it almost never got any better than this. I consider this album to be among the very best MBM material.

A very interesting thing about this album is that it contains 4 songs that are spread out across 14 tracks. "God O.D." is divided up into 4 parts, "Re-Animator" is divided up into 4 parts, "Strap Down" is divided up into 3 parts, and "I Got The Fear" is divided up into 4 parts. Some of the parts of each track sound like an extention of the part that came before, while some of the parts sound like a new song alltogether (for instance, part 4 of "God O.D." sounds nothing like the other 3 parts). I think it's really a very cool concept.

I highly recommend this, along with 99% and Satyricon, to anyone interested in MBM.

Industrial music review The Path they should have stuck to
It is my personal opinion that this is the best work this band has to offer to date (4/15/04). The songs on this album are constructed with some of the catchiest bass line hooks I have ever heard. The guitar has some great crunch but more important is the leads. The guitar leads on this disc make the songs sound epic and larger than life, yet are simplistic in nature. They both compliment the rythems yet provide a nice contrast to the over all dark sound of this album. I know most fans today probably favor the bands new vocal style but this album is the pinacle of death metal cross over into industrial. Their new sound to me (anything out after 1996) is filled with boreing sample loops and spastic guitar riffing. I much prefer the slower more groove oriented stuff on Submit, Industrial, and Desensitized. For all GODFLESH fans this is a must check out CD. Even people into Ministry or KMFDM who don't mind diving into some heavier music might like this album. For Fans of the newer Pitch Shifter sound give this disc a chance!! Right down to the production it's a forgotton masterpiece. If anyone from the band should ever read this do me a favour and try this approach to music again. I'm not the best writer/reviewer but I am a huge fan of the band, even my online name is derived from thier first album.

      Industrial music reivew Too slick
OK. This is the example of a great potential gone wrong. You take some people like Doug Wimbish and A Sherwood who have done some grat stuff together and alone, and tehy come up with this. While most of the records they usually have been associated with have been innovative and fresh, this one does not really reach the heights of the rest of the stuff they have produced.

Industrial music review The best Tackhead album
This is without doubt the best Tackhead album. It shows great bass sound, and it's more easily to hear that the others tackhead albums. And it also contains 19 tracks. Although i don't have the cd version it's tackhead at it best and it shows a great ( and strange)couple: Adrian Sherwood and Doug wimbish. It also has a very good sound and surely deserves the 5 stars. An incredible album and a very good start for first time listeners of this great and original band.

Industrial music reivew A weaker album than their first
This is the 1993 second album by the Boston alternative rock band Tribe. Their first album, Abort, is a definite five-star affair and should by rights have been a big hit. "Sleeper" isn't in the same league. The songwriting and production aren't as strong as on "Abort", and the single "Supercollider" wasn't catchy enough to grab the attention of newcomers. But there are three great tracks: the wistful "Red Rover", "Crawl" (with its hyperactive chorus about "the spiny fish are breaking the barrier"), and "Dogflower". Look for "Abort" first, and come back for "Sleeper" later if you liked "Abort".

      (1=poor 2=mediocre 3=pretty good 4=very good 5=phenomenal)

Industrial music review A shame it did not catch on
A thouroughly enjoyable album. I heard the catchy (and very good) song "Red Rover" in of all places St Louis while I was their on business. I bought the album immediately afterward, expecting to hear more from this group. More recently I purchased an earlier album of theirs, Abort, which is also very enjoyable. I believe they were a small band out of Boston that never caught on. Lead singer whoes name is Janet LaValley has a great voice. Neither to radical or to pop, just enjoyable with an eclectic mixture of songs (and the only song I ever heard sung about the now cancelled supercollider being built in the early 1990's!) Gotta love that!

Sounds like skinny puppy material. I like the track CIC because of the thrash beat. The lyrics are about the gulf war.
