New Wave music review Primo 80's Band
The Romantics were called New Wave/Power Pop/Punk during the 80's but still are a band that plays just good 'ol Rock-N-Roll.
In Heat is a definite requirement if you seek a good piece of 80's music culture. You won't be disappointed!

New Wave music review Another Party Essential
1983 hit album "In Heat" is one of my all time favorite CDs. It includes "Talking In Your Sleep" oft-played 80's hits. But you can dig it out more from this CD. Rock You Up is Hewy Lewis styled uptempo fun pop rock. One In A Million is another hit from this album. My personal pick is "Digging On You", a bit similarly styled as The Hooters' "And We Danced". I'm HIP is really fun hip/rock that will please the appreciators of J.Geils Band or The Knacks. Dig much from this CD. Recommended for The Hooters, J.Geils Band and wide range of 80's pop rock fans.

New Wave music review Awesome party music!
Let me tell you...I work in a very diverse office building....a place where everyone likes their own music and not yours. I popped this CD in my disc drive one Saturday morning and people from nearby departments were dancing and singing along with the music! Everyone came together and had such a great time...they recognized the song from the first couple of beats and we danced and sang along....then I popped in Rhino Instant Party Mix - Extra Strength....and WOW....it was more of a party than work. Someone pass the chips and dip! Great CD!!!

New Wave music review Great Selection!
I bought both this CD and the Extra Strength CD and played them at one of my DJ gigs and they were both a huge success. Could have gotten away with playing them from beginning to end since there is a great variety. I recommend this CD to all!

New Wave music review Espresso, cigarettes and cafes....
Having been a PW fan since his days with the Jam, I remember the day I picked up the Long Player single that came out before this record, to say the least, like many Jam fans I was disappointed, but after a month or so I put the record back on the turntable and loved it! Then this Record came out and I was done. The direction was fresh and soulful, if you missed this, the first time out don't miss it now. Perfect for the summer, perfect for the winter, really perfect all year around. The Style Council was just starting there scooters for this one, and I waited for each album after and I have yet to stop playing this record or any of there other's for that matter . While so much crap came out in the 80's this long player made the difference. Buy It and you will know the sound and why we "keep on burning"! Introducing The Style Council is a must, stand outs include, Long Hot Summer, Speak Like a Child and Paris Match, and you can't forget Mick Talbot's great Organ playing on Mick's Up. I dare you to fine a record/song from the same period that still has meaning today, one listen to Money-Go-Round and you will agree we are still not off it. 7 songs of soul, served fresh and cool.Just the begining of something great a must have and if you have never listed to TSC you will never stop once started.

New Wave music review A great beginning for the future Style Council fan.
This album completely blew me away on the first listen. I never did own any Style Council before this year. I did see some of their videos and heard some of their music over the past few years. I especially enjoyed the first track (Long Hot Summer), I enjoyed the soul style and the packaging was great. To make it brief, I would recommend this album to anyone interested in this group or this style of music from the 1980's. I think this is a great example of The Style Council for those who aren't familiar with their music. This is definately a great album to listen to in the summertime.

New Wave music review james chance is funky, funny, and handsome!
i first heard james chance on the no new york comp. he is the best thing on that comp. there are generally weaknesses when it comes to the other three bands(mainly their vocals, but i am picky when it comes to vocals). dish it out is amazing. music i had always wished i could hear, but never knew it was out there. anyways, the first two discs from the box set (buy the contortions and james white and the blacks) are perfect. I would suggest just buying these two cds if you dont wanna get the box set. i started to type critical things about the last 2 discs, but i'm not sure if these judgements are premature now. i just feel like pat place's guitar playing had a lot to do with why james chance's early stuff was so cool. Also, the dissonant spontaneous keys, an d of course chance's free jazz sax playing. You can't go wrong with either of the first two albums (unless of course you can't stand james chance in the first place!)thre is a lot of cool stuff though on the last 2. oh god, just buy the box set! sorry for any confusion! the flaming demonics stuff is good, too.i think all i meant was that the first two discs are so beyond excellent that it was kidna like going from a throbbing porn erection to george constanza just out of a swimming pool. but in the end , george's erection is actually bigger than ever!

New Wave music review James Chance deserves a whole heaping vat of boiling recognition.
Irresistible Impulse is like a Molotov cocktail of Punk, funk and free jazz. This box set is the supreme definition of cool, it is worth every measly penny. I suggest you all buy it now, sell your blood, semen or vital organs to the meat market. Do what you got to do my brothers and sisters just get the set.

New Wave music review "Outsider" Music
This music is like Ornette Coleman meets James Brown in hell with a little touch of Elvis Presley thrown in. Chance adopts the screeching and wild atonal phrasing of free jazz and applies it to ridiculously funky beats and chanting of aggressive and bizarre lyrics. It sound great on paper, and it works even better upon listening. Although some may describe this as inaccessible, I find the funky nature of this music to be immediately appealing, and it takes no time to be drawn in. This is not for hipsters who want to hear ever-so-clever punk or rock music that has little or no musical substance or innovation. If you want to witness a bold musical talent mold a musical realm of his own, this set is for you.
For those who are already familiar with Chance's music, this is the best set currently available featuring excellent sound and a great selection covering much of his released output.

New Wave music review surreal travelogue through planet mexico
This record has something for everyone. Alot of "ambient" in the true sense of the word. Some minimalist a la satie; bass and clarinet as opposed to bass and drum, some groove-trance and a bit of imaginary film-soundtrack...plus a great cover of colored engravings.

New Wave music review ". . .it was more of a revelation than a revolution. Mexico
was searching for the present outside only to find it within, buried but alive. The search for modernity led us to discover our antiquity, the hidden face of the nation." (Octavio Paz, from his Nobel lecture.)

So close your eyes and cross the threshold with members from Tuxedomoon, a passage to and through a Mexico both ancient and po-mo, a soundscape where an electric guitar can appear to be a waterfall and the sounds of waterfalls can resemble winds rushing through Aztec pyramids...where a serene clarinet and bass guitar piece can go down like a smooth sip of tequila, but as so often with Tuxedomoon, watch out for the haunting quality which can cause a catch in the throat...move to the undulating jauntiness of saxophones, slinky guitars and rhythm tracks by the light of the luminerias, and pass through the shadows and fog of aural dimensions.

Cross all musical borders with "Joeboy in Mexico," from world music to ambient and beyond, and listen to the sound-trek from the best film you'll "see" this year.

New Wave music review their best album
I bought this on vinyl 23 years ago and then purchased on CD as IMHO it's their best album. This is the only album I own by the Spandau Ballet as all subsequent albums were a little too "pop" for my taste. Don't get me wrong, all their albums are good, but this is their best.

New Wave music review BETTER THAN TRUE
This early grouping of songs made the band what it was - one of the romantic movement's greats, until they penned the song 'True' and ruined it all. Give this one a spin and you'll soon see why. Pay particular attention to "To Make A Long Story Short" & the incredible club fave "Muscle Bound". This CD almost makes you want to out & get an asymetrical haircut & some eyeliner. DON'T DO IT!!!! But do pick this up if you can find it!!!

several of them excellent. Starting from the three albums

New Wave music review Great Set
I live by two maxims. The one that applies here: there is never enough Johnny Burnette. (The other is: mind your own business. See, you shouldn't have wondered.) Well, there's Burnette aplenty here--and nicely performed. Robert Gordon is as usual in great form, his voice strong and his phrasing on the money. If the man ever hit a clam it would shock the civiized world. Chris Spedding continues his peerless fretwork. His version of "Gunfight" is carried out with ruthless efficiency and great ferocity. All in all an excellent performance.

New Wave music review One of the greatest Rockabilly albums ever made.
Robert Gordon is the best thing to happen to rockabilly since Gene Vincent. His powerful voice and backup band is top of the line. A must for any true rockabilly fan. Spare no expense to obtain this album.

New Wave music review The Fixx Live recordings
The Fixx is a innovative band since 80s but this CD is a excellent live recording. Great and buy it

New Wave music review Terrific Recording
Many early favorites on a great live recording, with a couple of rare songs. Lousy cover though. Cheers.

New Wave music review The band in their prime...
This King Biscuit Flower Hour event was recorded when the band was riding high on the coat-tails of Shuttered Room, and they had just recorded Reach the Beach (but before it was released). Simply put, the sound and performance of this concert is so close to studio quality it's spooky - the band is in top form here, with fantastic material from their first two albums. Even casual fans will enjoy this cd.
