Essential New WaveA very exciting record, with lots of good new wave inspired tracks and ditto interesting lyrics. I escpecially like the synth-driven "Kissing round corners". Too bad they had to go mainstream (Out of mind out of sight) to get the recognition they deserved.

My Favorite Album EverThis is my absolute favorite album in the world. I rank it above Forever Changes, Sgt. Pepper, and the Velvet Underground and Nico. If you like mid-60s pop by the Beatles, Velvets, the Who and the Kinks - this 1980 album will be a brilliant addition to your collection. Be warned - it's quirky. It was recorded on 4 track, isn't amazingly hi-fi, and has plenty of spooky reverb. Many of the best songs are upbeat, with updated neurotic lyrics and music by Dan Treacy. It has a sweetness, spirit and distance that has rarely been captured on record.

Essential listening for Squeeze FansThis version of Annie Get Your Gun is essential to anyone with even a passing interrest in Squeeze. Not just for the great version of "Annie", but because of the extra tracks.
Squeeze began recording in 1977 with the release of their "Packet of Three" EP on Deptford Fun City Records. The three tracks had never been released on CD until this single.
Classic new wave. Buy it!

Unbelievable CD!This is a fantastic CD from an Unbelievably talented musician. Every song on this disc is fantastic. From the mellow to the upbeat this is a well crafted album.
his best yet.this is atfer hearing all 5 of his solo efforts.this is just slightly better than move me,which is a masterpiece.on this, his emotional range is broader, and the fact that i was at this concert swayed my opinion.my favorite song is''lied''.it has a very hard edge to it without having to yell in your face or make with the screaming guitars.i also like dear god,the leaving-so long,sister-brother,a great duet with kate bush, the title track, just for you,oh ok,i like every song on this cd.that in itself is an oddity.theres only a few cds on which i like every song.though he kinda fell off a little on ''pure'',he never seems to get trapped in any one style.and even on that cd,the songs i do like are awesome.if ever an artist needs more exposure, midge(even his name is great!)is the artist.between him and seal, the more dvd's,cdv's,etc..there is to purchase, the better.i am highly anticipating midge's next great release!

Great Box set peters out towards the end..ANTBOX is a great collection of early Ant demos and unreleased stuff (mixed with the obligatory hit singles).
The first disk is a revalation for most Ant fans as most of the material has never been isssued before. Disk two is a great mix of rarities (A.N.T.S. anyone?) and has a bunch of great Friend Or Foe era outtakes. As for as Disk three is goes there's only a handful of rare items and as far as the Manners/Wonderful period goes we're deined anything besides the album tracks that were issued as singles. Which, if you're a fan, you already have and don't need again. There are no demos, live tracks or outtakes from these periods on ANTBOX which is odd because they're all over the internet. So it's not like they don't exist.
This all makes for a frustrating box set and hopefully rarites from this period will surface on another collection sometime in the future. A good box set for folks who don't mind their collections to overlap yet again with previously released material.

Vive le AntboxIt's not often you find a band that so thoroughly revisits it's history and with such humor. The only thing that could have made this compilation better would have been the inclusion of music videos. There are not a lot of sources out there for information about the history of the band, so the booklet that comes with these albums is worth it's weight in proverbial gold. And if word of the band was rare, pictures are rarer still, so the candid shots included are great fun.
All in all this collection allows you to hear Antmusic in the proper context and with the permission of it's actual creators, so you know it's good.

Excellent, worth every pennyBack in high school, I fell in love with Antmusic. It was like rebellion from normalcy and I grabbed on for the ride. 20 plus years later, I still want to grab on for the ride. This box rocks. The best part about the collection is the different versions of the original songs. There are two versions of a couple of songs such as "Stand and Deliver". In a couple of cases, I actually liked the demo better than the recorded song. "Friend or foe", for example, the demo is better to me. If you are an ant fan, this is a must have. My 3 kids, 8 and under, love the songs, too. My 3 year old can sing "Stand and Deliver" - it is adorable. Let's face it, there is no one that compares to the original sound of Antmusic. {If Adam Ant reads this stuff, record another album!! - the music industry now is so boring. . .}

Well it is good!I would have spent the money on this cd if it only featured the hit, "Wouldn't It Be Good". This song had a cool video on MTV when it first came out, I was hooked, and the lyrics and score were great too. On the personal side, "Wouldn't It Be Good" wound up meaning alot more to me today in 2001 then it did when it was released in the 80's. This tune is rarely played on 80's retro stations but you'll recognize it when you hear it. Kershaw is a great artist who put together a string of hits but never quite pushed it over the top in the US with a mainstream following. I give Nik Kershaw's Anthology a great review, check it out!

3.5 stars - Good "best of" disc, horrible "extras" discAll The Aces (2001.) One of Motorhead's many hits compilations, which features a bonus disc of rare pre-Motorhead material from members of the band.
Motorhead. These guys are the gods of classic heavy metal, and there is no debating it. If it wasn't for these guys, it's not likely that the British metal uprising of the early eighties or even the whole eighties metal thing in the United States would ever have taken place. The band has shaped the genre from their earliest known days. Over the years, the band has released a lot of hits compilations. For this one, the band did a typical "best of", and threw in a disc of pre-Motorhead rarities as a bonus! How does this compilation, entitled All The Aces, measure up? Read on for my review.
PROS:
-ALL THE BIG HITS THAT CASUAL FANS KNOW AND LOVE ARE HERE. The band's biggest hit of all, the classic Ace Of Spaces, is here for your listening pleasure, as are the other hits, including Motorhead and Overkill.
-THE SET ALSO GIVES YOU UNDERRATED TRACKS. No Class and Bomber are among the severely underrated little gems that you'll get in this set, and they're well worth listening to.
-YOU GET A BONUS DISC OF MATERIAL! The set features a disc of rarities entitled the Muggers' Tapes - tapes from a band that some Motorhead members participated in prior to the formation of the band.
-ENHANCED CD EXTRAS. If you've got a computer, you can view some live performance music videos from the band! It's a nice extra if you own a computer.
CONS:
-TOO MUCH EMPHASIS ON THE A-SIDE SINGLES, NOT ENOUGH ON THE LESSER-KNOWN STUFF AND THE B-SIDES. Because of this, the compilation lacks one of the band's finest underrated masterpieces - Dirty Love. And that's not the only hidden gem the set lacks.
-SOME SURPRISING OMISSIONS. Where the hell is Stone Dead Forever, one of the band's biggest hits? What about Vibrator and Lost Johnny from the band's debut? Whoever compiled this set could have used some major help!
-THE "EXTRAS" DISC IS FLAT OUT TERRIBLE! The Muggers' Tapes don't even include Lemmy Kilmister, so they are NOT going to appeal to most fans of the band. Likewise, the sound quality is horrendous. Basically, it's horrible-sounding junk that isn't even really Motorhead.
OVERALL:
To put it in simplest terms possible, Motorhead has better hits compilations out there, the best of which being the two-disc Very Best Of Motorhead. Get THAT set instead. This is a set that had potential, but its potential is ultimately ruined by its flaws and the awful second disc. If you find this set in the budget bin, go for it. Otherwise, shell out the extra cash and get the two-disc Best Of.

Holly Beth Vincent (Holly & the Italians) makes a come back!Holly Vincent of Holly and the Italians fame made a long awaited come back with this release. If you are a die hard Holly fan you'll probably be able to put in the effort needed to explore and enjoy this CD. There's nothing about this CD that instantly grabs the listener or has the appeal of her previous material, it's more of an experimental journey here.
Worth owning for a Holly Vincent fan, but certainly not a CD with mainstream appeal.
You can follow the adventures of Holly Vincent in the group "vowel movement" with concrete blonde singer Johnette Napolitano. As well as the three "holly and the italians" releases.

god bless AmericaSo refreshing to hear more by Holly Beth Vincent after a ten year studio absence. She is a true rock pioneer and deserves far more than she has gotten from both the recording industry and the rock fan. i will admit it took a few listens to this to get acclimated but now it has been glued to my CD player. This is why i like Holly Beth Vincent so much, she is always progressing. She toured backing up Concrete Blonde after this was released and what a treat that concert series must have been. But you con listen to this on a surface level and it is just good rock but if you seriously listen to how the whole bands interacts and the vocals are so much above the ordinary rock lyric. i don't think it is possible for Holly to disappoint. Buy this or the gods will frown on you.
