New Wave music reviews

this is probably the last album of one of the best and most ignored straigth ahead rock bands out there. In Spain we use to say "honey is not made for pig's taste". In other words, good music is sometimes ignored by the majority of people. It's a shame. Anyway, if your are reading this, is beacuse you've alredy know Big Country, so I'm not telling you anything new. If you don't own this double live album, run for it!

I love Peter Kater and most of his music without occult or shaman titles in them, because the truth is, it is part of a cult thinking and spiritual darkness. I studied it for years as I did other cults and I know people firsthand who were involved with the illuminated cult and "ism. Otherwise he has an excellent talent and beautiful spirit in music and melodic creation on the piano and you cannot deny that he has a God-given gift, if and when he ever acknowledges that is truly where it comes from.

I bought this just recently and I got quite a shock when I heard this. It wasn't like Wire's punky stuff or even their synthy stuff. It just sounded so alien and strange. Plus there was no beats which kinda gave it this world of it's own. I don't know why I found this in the world section because it could have easily be put in at the rock/pop section but that doesn't matter really. The music sounds haunted and Newman's vocals backed up by his wife Malka Spigel's rather ghostly vocals give up this rather spooky quality. I don't mean spooky in a " give me the creeps " sort of way - just a calm effect that you weren't expecting.

The interview part is hilarious since Colin really has nothing to say and is talking " virtual rubbish " throughout the course of the interview. He says at one point " I'm not getting paid for this. Maybe I should!" and then we have the remix of the interview which has some things you might have missed out on from the original review. It's good fun and if you feel like joining in the fun you can always turn it off when Colin says for you to turn it off....but then you could always disobey

I bought this great slice of new wave/post punk/power pop at Licorice Pizza (long gone record store) in 1981, I never stopped listening to it......999 was the most overlooked band from the UK punk scene of '77. They had it all: chops, hooks, talent and songs......The Buzzcocks stole the show, yet 999 held their own and are very well respected as songwriters, players and showmen among the great groups from their period.....Concrete is their 4th LP, it is a mixed bag of pop(Mercy Mercy/That's Way it Goes) disco (Obsessed w/ it's spaghetti western flavor), punky pop (So Greedy) and rock (Don't You Know I need You) to name a few....the inclusion of the bonus tracks which are the singles released from the record is genius......fills it out perfectly...Change, a b-side should have been on the album originally, now it is due to technology...if you're a fan of the UK '77 crew and not afraid to hear them mature into a more musical unit this record is for you.......try Biggest Prize in Sport '80 as well.....oh hell, try them all: Separates and 999 both from '78.....you will be happy you did......

Like the saying goes, "All good things must come to an end..." Such is the case with the Style Council's demise or break up in the late 80's. Yet, their rich blue-eyed, multi-faceted soul, pop, jazz, and r&b recordings live on ! This c.d. is truly a musical treasure trove of some of the most infectious European import soul grooves to hit this way on the western side of the globe. The rich toe tapping, hand clapping opus of Heavens Above is a definite standout track. The same with Walking the Night graced with the funky brass to add a retro 70's funk twist a la Kool and the Gang or Bar Kays, Con Funk Shun, Ohio Players flavor. That outro instrumental of that track is funkified to the max !There's even a bit of the late 60's to 70's Motown sound influence on the title track... The Cost of Loving is worth it all.

To anyone who loves heavy,earlier Metallica You may know of Holocaust, the British band who wrote the awesome "The Small Hours"-and Metallica is greatly influenced by this band. On "The Courage to Be" Holocaust rocks harder than ever, but with killer melodies, and awesome intricate arrangements. The brooding "Neurosis, with a chugging riff that begs you to crank it louder. If you're sick of all the NEW METAL crap and want to hear a truly awesome piece of work, pick this CD up Immediately!It makes me realize why this 40 year old fan loved heavy metal in the first place. Great!!!!!!

Definitevely this CD single is simply amazing. Although there is only one song played, you hear exciting electronic-pop sounds during all playing time. What I like most is hearing the well combined voice of the woman with the singer. It creates an atmosphere of mistery and expectation. Also the rythms go beyond ordinary pop-music. The guitar strings well performed also add a touch of class and inspiration. This a must-get CD. You won't be dissapointed, ever.

This is an incredible 3 in 1 box of the cure, you save a lot of money by buying this imported cds! The Top itself usually costs $21.99... so why buy only one cd when you can get 2 others for 1 dollar! I think Pornography and Faith are 2 of the best cure cds they ever made. They are awesome! You really need this item. YOU really DO need it!!!
