A beautiful and eclectic mixThe CD lives up to its title, containing New Wave and goth/industrial tracks that mostly evoke a futuristic environ. The tracks are very pop-oriented, and a curious mix of dark industrial and bubbly optimism. Some songs are quite beautiful, like New Order's "Evil Dust" and Info Society's "On the Outside". Overall, a great listen, and mood-enhancer

Excellent Club Album! It took me forever to get a hold of this album and I was glad that I made the effort! G-A-Y is a club in the UK that I've heard much about and this complaition CD of artists that have performed there over the last 8 years is awesome. The songs range from Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" to Vengaboys' "Boom, Boom, Boom". I can't think of any other complaition album that would have such a wide range of artists and music. It's a must have if you really enjoy all genres of music from different time periods. Don't let the title fool you!

Got Happy 23 years ago! This album is the perfect introduction to Elvis Costello's talents for those who are not familiar with his career. Listening to this album will make you go back and listen to his first two records (My Aim is True and This Year's Model), then take you to his masterpiece, Imperial Bedroom. From the first cut on, this album sucks you in and keeps you interested. Best cuts include "Opportunity", "Man Called U.N.C.L.E", and "New Amsterdam" - all of which illustrate the cleverness of Costello's lyrical mind. Listen to the melody of "New Amsterdam", which will stick with you for years, and the lyrics 'like in London they'll take you to heart after a little while, though I look right at home I still feel like an exile....' This is worth a look, go on, give it a go!

Glad to love DANCE MUSIC !If you were at dance clubs (Gay or Straight) in the early part of the 1980s, then you'll know all of these songs.
Chances are, you danced to all of the titles and will welcome the chance to listen to the tracks once more. All of the tracks on this cd were massive club hits and some even crossed over into TOP 40 radio.
Most of the material stands up well against the test of time. The songs having not aged well are in most part nostalgical and even fun to listen in a kitch way!

Groundbreaking at the timeThis album was groundbreaking when it came out in that it captured the feeling (and Jules oozes with feeling) that was missing from the corporate rock and new wave that held hostage the airwaves. Quirky like new wave, catchy as pop, and technical as a band selling *way* more records than they did, Jules and the Polar Bears left their mark on me. Try this CD if you can get it, and it will grown on you too.
Don't Got No Breeding This is one great album. Shear was absolutely at his best during the Polar Bear era. The philosophical undertones (Shadows Break,)the sense of futility (Lovers by Rote), the psychological observations (Following Every Finger) - to fully fathom the depth of the commentary requires repeated listening. This is like the best of beat poetry enveloped in catchy pop tunes. Love it!
the greatest depressed albumThis is the ultimate album for anyone who is depressed and wants to listen to someone even more depressed. The songs resonate with the emotions of the darkness of true depression. And on Convict it has the best summary refrain, "The nice thing about true hopelessness is that you don't have to try again." This album is a true cult classic - not standard but worth having to help reinforce the blues.

CBGB, Max's Kansas City,Hurrah,DanceteriaGreat compilation of 1st & 2nd generation punk/new Wave/No Wave bands. Great tunes!! Neil Cooper-re-release this CD!!! And pay us our royuaalties!!! Fin Hunt-ex-Invader.
Early NYC Punk - a remarkable collectionThis follows the development of the early New York punk/new wave scene from 1974 to 1980, via a collection of homemade singles that came out of the scene. Unlike Rhino Records' totally contrived "DIY" series, this is the real thing, a genuine anthology of the genuine stuff. Patti Smith's single which opens this disc is great, but musically sounds closer to a post-Woodstock, hippie kind of thing than new wave. It nonetheless qualifies as early punk because the lyrical content is much starker and angrier (and riddled with strong language) than the popular music of the day (1974). Television's song bridges the gap musically between Patti Smith's post-hippie jazz and what would later become punk. By the time we get to the third single here, Richard Hell & the Voidoids' "Blank Generation", an identifiable punk style had already evolved that can still be heard in the punk music of today. From there the music ranges from the weird and arty (Model Citizens' "Animal Instincts" and Theoretical Girls' "U.S. Millie") to straightforward power pop (Marbles' "Red Lights" and Speedies' "Let Me Take Your Photo"). The Student Teachers' "Past Tense" fittingly closes the album, reminiscing about a scene that was already in decline by 1980 as the newer hardcore bands arrived and quickly made the older punk rock seem tame by comparison. Of all the bands chronicled here, only four (Patti Smith Group, Television, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, and Nervus Rex) went on to release full-length albums on major labels, and of those, only Patti Smith was able to find any commercial success (with her top-20 hit single, "Because the Night", in 1978). None of the big names of the early NYC punk scene, like the Ramones, Talking Heads, New York Dolls, Lou Reed/Velvet Underground, or Blondie, are here. This by and large is made up of one-shot bands, whose fan base was mainly at the CBGB's club and whose only recorded output was a homemade single or two. If you want an excellent chronicle of where punk in the U.S. began, I can think of no two better albums to pick up than this one and "Live at CBGB's".

I'm 17 and I love thisAt 17 I am probab;y one of the youngest people to own this CD and usually I love punk music and rock I guess. But the main thing I love them for are the emotion and the fact that they often aren't scared to say things. And thats why I like Kim Wilde - okay she didnt write her own songs but they fit her very well and she is willing to sing things that pop stars don't usually talk about. For example attempted suicide(view from the bridge) and prostitution (2-6-5-8-0. Can you imagine Britney Spears or Hilary Duff talking bout tha?
My favourite tracks are definately:
2-6-5-8-0 (I really happy catchy even funny song about a prostitute....)
Ego(An angry but catchy song denouncing an ex boyfriend...its almost avril-esque..only more poppy)
Words fell down(another dumb boyfriend song...but very catchy)

wonderful unique tecnopop albumThis is a kind of eighties singer that is hard to find nowadays.A melodic ,melancolic singer with a soft voice and wonderful synth sounds that makes you fly high and feel those sounds in your heart. There is also a top production behind every Kim Wilde album. This album contain the best K.Wilde songs ever recorded. One of my favourite albums absolutely!!!
