Singer-Songwriters music review Best CD purcase you can make
Bill Deasy is an incredible musician. Don't know why more people haven't discovered Bill Deasy. This CD will not leave your player for weeks. His God-given talent is undeniable - singing, guitar, song-writing all top notch. I'll Rescue You, Blue Sky Grey, The Gift of Seeing Through - all of it simply beautiful songs. This CD can put anyone in a delightful mood. I can't wait to get back in to the car to hear some more. Bill was previously with the Gathering Field. Some things in life just don't work out the way you planned. This CD shows that Bill can deal with life's challenges - and so can you. If you like Springsteen, Tom Petty, Crosby Stills & Nash, Neil Young, Dan Fogelberg, the Clarks, any of it - you will love Bill. Buy it and buy another one for a friend or family member. They will love his sound. I have given away at least 4 - My dad, my brother, my best friend - EVERYONE has said "great CD!"

Singer-Songwriters music review Best Music!
This music is great! My favorite song on the CD is Blue Sky Grey. (I like the chorus alot!) My entire family loves his music. We have all his CD's (including the ones from when he was on THE GATHERING FIELD band.) Two of my favorite songs are Blue Sky Grey and I'll Rescue You. I've met him... at my house! My mom knew growing up. [...]

Singer-Songwriters music review Some of the best music you will ever experience
I'm sure all of the other reviews have already praised this album more than I can here, but all of it put together can't be as much as it deserves. If you were in a situation where you weren't sure where your next meal was coming from, I'd suggest you put aside such concerns and spend your last few dollars on this CD. It would be worth starving over.

Singer-Songwriters music review Cheerful, Open and Frank
Libby Roderick's voice is low, open and friendly. The minute you put her in your stereo, you feel as though she's singing just to you - a bright, sunny voice annunciating with perfect clarity.

Her songs come across as those of a woman on a mission. No vague lyrics here! Each uplifting song says what it means and means what it says. The liberal-minded themes include women's struggles, women's power, an end to racism, and people's right to be homosexual. All of the songs are delivered with optimism and cheer - far from militant. Very cheerful.

My favorite songs, though, are the spiritual ones. GRANDFATHER SUN is an absolutely inspiring prayer for every man and woman to find spiritual contentment in their times of pain. You'll sing along with it, you'll feel it, you'll believe it. It's a great song.

IF YOU SEE A DREAM is my favorite of Libby Roderick's albums, though she's made a number of close runners-up. This cheering, optimistic CD is probably the one of hers I reach for the most often.

Singer-Songwriters music review Libby Creates a Standard for Love
This CD contains Libby's signatuire song "How Could Anyone", used in workshops and therapy sessions worldwide. For this song alone, it is a CD to be heard. It is also an excellent opportunity to meet Libby and get acquainted with her music, then go on to her other CDs and watch her mature, but never deviate from her values. Beautiful voice, wonderful songwriter.

Singer-Songwriters music review Touches the soul.
Many people are introduced to Libby through the song "How Could Anyone" - and it remains a favorite. It reaches through layers of masks and pain and touches a part of you that laid unnoticed for far, far too long.

Libby is a songwriter beyond compare.

Singer-Songwriters music review Soothing sensations for the soul
Tom Prasado-Rao has a way of getting right past all of the "stuff" that can get in the way of us enjoying ourselves. He doesn't just allow us the opportunity to hear him, to enjoy his voice and his music, Tom invites us to celebrate life with him and to dance along with him. Tom's influences are varied and this shows wonderfully in his musical styles. Listen and enjoy.

Singer-Songwriters music review smooth, silky, sweet, like a piece of cheesecake
I love Tom's sound. it's so warm and soothing. his guitar sounds so sweet and happy. His songs are just very pleasing to the ear. He's a master player, I haven't heard anyone who sounds like him, the way he gets so much groove goin' with 2 hands. His voice is sweet, sweet, sweet.

Singer-Songwriters music review Beautiful voice!
Just heard Tom live at the 5th Annual Woody Guthrie Folk Music Festival. We arrived at the festival just as Tom was performing. As this was our first festival, we didn't know what to expect, but Tom's soothing voice and mellow tone definately set the mood and brought us right in! Can't wait to hear him again live.

Singer-Songwriters music review great new artist
elbert west has a sound like no other, a little of george jones, up beat like alan jackson, great stories in all his music. knowing where he came from his songs are true life experiances. listen to his music and you can imagine the video that would go with it. he has a sound that the teenagers like to hear. didley ,neon lights, unpredictable, and all the other songs are ones you just can't get out of your mind. my kids sing them all the time. we have a copy of the livin the life cd. we just can't get our local radio stations to play it. we saw him in concert with george jones in portsmouth va. an awesome show. i think when an entertainer goes out to meet the fans and chat, and do autographs the public really rates that high. go buy your copy today, you'll be glad you did.

Singer-Songwriters music review 10 thumbs up

I have not been disappointed and continue to play the album over and over again. And if you get a chance to see him live, it is amazing, what a show man!

The '80s folk revival yielded a diversely talented generation, some reared on the aesthetic and ideology of punk, some on their '60s singer-songwriter predecessors. They were looking for the directness of expression and connection with audience that stripped acoustic music promised. Michelle Shocked built an audience through her strident activist messages and raw, almost naked songs; she had the sincerity that the audience craved. Despite the militant cover--in which a cop is seen choking a protesting Shocked--the record is memorable for its reveries of childhood, its simple sense of hope, and Shocked's minimalist guitar and hoarse, youthful voice. --Roy Francis Kasten

Singer-Songwriters music review Laudible Effort Salutes Bygone Oratorio
Definitely liked this CD from the first listen.

You can't find another artist with more integrity than Michelle.

Knowledge and familiarity with American Roots styles is never more evident.

Everyone should give this CD a try!

Singer-Songwriters music review Great Reissue, Bravo Michelle !
In this reissue, she added a whole CD worth of bonus material. Great material too, and all for a reasonable price. I think I listen to Disc #2 as much or more than Disc #1. It came in a cool box with new liner notes. All handwritten it appears. I wonder if she did the writing herself?

I had the original back in 1989. It was a favorite back then. It's just one of those albums you can play over and over. Somehow, I sold it with my whole CD collection about 10 or 12 years ago.

Then, one day I was downloading some stuff on Kazaa and I ran across a couple of songs from the reissue and checked out Michelle's web site, because I hadn't followed her too closely in recent years.

Now, this is where the record companies got it wrong. They think everybody's just ripping the everything off. Well, not everyone. I bought this, BECAUSE I heard it on the internet! I feel it's worth every cent it cost. I happen to think that artists are entitled to the profit from their hard work. And the hard work is apparent here.

What makes this even better is the fact that Michelle fought for the rights to own her material and won. So I hope she'll stand to make what's due to her, instead of some record executives in LA. If you're thinking about getting this, don't hesitate. Because, you never know, it may go out of print again. Another two thumbs up. Happy listening!

Singer-Songwriters music review Truly Original talent...God This Woman is Talented!
I ordered this on a whim based on other reviews. What a great purchase, and what an addition to my music library. I sat on my porch here and savored each song...having lived in Texas, having been to the Paradiso in Amsterdam, having lived in Atlanta and been to the old (sigh) Metroplex (God I'm old)...having...well, you get the idea...in other words, this CD touched me, which doesn't happen often. Thank you Michelle for such a wonderful production. Keep up the good work, I'm planning on buying more an more of your music...you are truly talented. HIGHLY recommended!

Love this album. Love this performer. For anyone who's ever had a heart, had it SMASHED into pieces and found a way to move on -- buy this album. I've heard snibbets of "Shed This Skin" as well; this album is for those who have found a way to love again.

Singer-Songwriters music review Elisa Peimer music and voice are great!
Elisa Peimer has a great voice and lyrics come from the heart. The music is excellent and the recording is great.

Singer-Songwriters music review Elisa's music really hits to the heart
EP by Elisa Peimer is a great CD to get over an X by. Her heart-felt melodies and empowering lyrics hit that familiar chord in anyone who has been hurt by love, and to show us all that "I will survive!"

Singer-Songwriters music review Peaceful, Plaintive & Provocative Piano
I bought this CD to hear the cover of Joni Mitchell's "Willie". If you're a fan of Joni's piano stylings from Blue & Ladies of the Canyon, this will appeal to you. Richard's piano is mournful & beautiful, his voice is soothing and melancholy, and his skill as a composer is very strong. He is more concerned with creating musical "textures" than writing "pop" songs. When you play this CD, you won't leave with tunes in your head, but you will want to hear it again & again!

Singer-Songwriters music review Better than Pop
It's not very pop--but the tune I downloaded, Blue Window, is just beautiful. There's something in your harmony that is like a skilled painter using watercolors, taking advantage of the way shades blend and wash over each other. You're being subtly...polytonal? With those beautiful lydian bits all over the place, and your subtle, dulcet Christopher-Cross voice (I like Christopher Cross--that's a compliment)...it's a heady, beautiful mix of stuff.

Singer-Songwriters music review Sad songs for a winter's night
Gorgeous, melancholy music, evocative lyrics and imagery of loneliness. A unique sound, piano based, synth top with choral work grounded by the artist's lyrical baritone. Kind of folk, kind of jazz, very personal. The songs invite you in with repeated listening and have many layers and colors, like all good work. Overall sad songs, which is not a bad thing, though title song is more upbeat and almost swings. And it's always a rare treat to hear a man sing a love song to another man (Willie).

Singer-Songwriters music review Donahue delights with "Lighthouse"
Popular NYC Cabaret artist Jack Donahue delights with his debut CD of pop songs dipped in a semi-new age production style.

His covers of Mary Chapin Carpenter's "Come On, Come On" and "Only A Dream" are superb, and "Hero and Leander" showcases his upper register beautifully.

Donahue has a way with a lyric that makes him stand-out among the multitude of fledgling cabaret artists that compete for the spotlight.

Singer-Songwriters music review Impressive pop ponderings from a bright new talent
The sheer depth of emotion conveyed in Jack Donahue's voice makes this album a must listen. Alternatingly rejoicing and yearning, here is a voice for the new millenium. Donahue puts his unique spin on some remarkable (if not well-known) pop standards that leave the listener fulfilled, yet wanting more... like another album!

His sublte take on "Come On, Come On" should make Mary-Chapin Carpenter proud, and his hauntingly passionate "Only A Dream" far surpasses the heights Carpenter reached with her original. These are only two of the many moments you will cherish from this debut.

I, for one, am anxious to hear what this talented singer brings forth on his next release. Look forward to big things in the coming years from Jack Donahue.

Singer-Songwriters music review Donahue's ''Lighthouse'' shines!
If I had to make a list of the sexiest and best-looking male vocalists, I'd put John Barrowman, Tom Andersen and Sean McDermott at the top, but now I've got a new name to add: Jack Donahue. ''Lighthouse'' is an amazing album. I love the sound of Donahue's voice. It's so beautiful, intimate and direct. I love how he sings Mary Chapin Carpenter songs like ''Come On, Come On'' and ''Only a Dream.'' Donahue knows how to take a tune and make it his own. Wait'll you hear him on ''The Water Is Wide.'' Kudos to the mellow arrangements. What a great debut CD. I haven't been able to stop playing this CD since I bought it, and I can't wait until his next one comes out. Bravo!
