Ska music review Favorite O.C. album AND overall favorite live album
When it comes to my favorite live albums, this was a close one with Five Iron Frenzy's "Proof That The Youth..." and "The End Is Here". But in the final analysis, my Supertones still managed to edge both of them with a live disc that's undeniably passionate ("Who Can Be Against Me?"), honest ("Sure Shot"), moving ("You Are My King") and uncompromising ("Return Of the Revolution") all at the same time. WHERE'S VOLUME TWO???

Ska music review Best live cd ever
I don't usually like live albums because the balance between vocals and instruments is usually off or sounds strange, but this is the single best one that I've ever heard. The choice of songs was great, combining the best of all their albums with a couple praise songs, and the intensity of the audience and atmosphere adds so much. Just listening to the first song, Unite, as loud as you can is guaranteed to pump you up and the rest of the cd doesn't let you down at all. Hardcore lyrics, great music, Supertones rock!!!

Ska music review supertones >= awesomest
Supertones Supertones SUPERTONES! dang these guys are good. if you ever get a chance to go to a live show you'd best take it. Anyways, this cd is beyond fantastic and you should really get it and ill tell you why. Lyrically it's incredible. The lyrics deal with all types of Christian issues and they really make you think. The music is magical and every single time i listen to this cd i want to get up and skank the night away (and pray at the same time). The crazy happy fast tracks make me giddy with joy. I love every track and it's really cool because tracks 10-12 are praise songs which you gotta love. My favorite songs are Unite, Jury Duty, and, of course, Supertones Strike Back! I recommend this cd highly to anyone who likes good music and enjoys praising Jesus.

Ska music reivew less than what you expect
the good news: this is a really nice box set from a great band.

the bad news: although all the tracks represented in the track line up are technically on the physical CDs - they are not all in CD audio, therefore not playable on a CD player... and some of these are the BEST singles.

these CDs combine CD audio with CD-ROM data, enabling the ability to view the videos on a computer.

however, many of the videos included in the CD-ROM section are omitted from the CD audio. The result: an incomplete reissue of these great albums. when you listen to this on your CD player, you will NOT hear: house of fun, driving in my car, it must be love, the sun and the rain, wings of dove, waiting for the ghost train.

if you are a fan who wants to purchase a CD version of all these great albums convienantly: this ain't it. the highly compressed computer videos are cute, but the sound utterly sucks and you can only experience them on your computer.

it's too bad amazon didn't catch this and take these songs out of the track line up.

the record company (virgin) took a GREAT idea ("the lot") and made it kind of suck. too bad.

Ska music review TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT? TAKE IT!!!!
I was born in London and grew up listening to Madness from the late seventies until mid-eighties. I left England for the USA in 1985 and whenever I get that urge to return to London spritually and mentally I turn on my madness songs! I love this nutty group! I love their videos each one has its own flavor and mood. The Lot is a superb collection!

Ska music review UTTER MADNESS!!!!!
If your a MADNESS fan then you need to buy this. Its totaly right on. Granted its the original 7 albums but its even got the videos for the singles off of the specific album. Its totaly kick @$$

Ska music reivew This is the DHC I was looking for . . .
I saw them perform once at a free concert at UC Berkeley (ca. 1994) and they always stood out as being awesome, but I never bought their CDs until recently I got Honey I'm Homely from a thrift store for about 50 cents. It was good, but I was hungry for more so I bought THIS cd and I feel like I struck gold. The overall sound has so much more energy than Homely does and the vocals sound more spontaneous and less formulaic -- same with the guitar and rhythm section. One more thing, The Old Record features a standard SKA horn section which I think is a VERY good thing. I sorely missed that on Homely.

Ska music review All DHC cd's should have a trillion plus stars next to them!
If your just getting started in the ska scene and are wondering whose good and who isn't or your afraid you'll buy a cd and be let down..trust me on this one...DHC is the best! You will NOT be let down in anyway!! with songs like "Babushska" and "blind leading the blind" you just want to stop your car ( or just stop whatever your doing) and skank! The harmonic voices of Elyse and Karina are amazing!! DHC is truly "Better than anything" :o) Do the smart thing and just buy ALL of their cd's! ( I did and I love each and everyone! I would advise you to see them live..they rock! And if you can't see them live buy the Live album!!)

Ska music review Horns
For people who like ska music, or great harmonies, or FANTASTIC horn sections, this is the best CD around! The first time i heard this CD i was in my friend's car, and we listened to the whole thing through. The moment I got out of the car, I had to hear it again!

Bursting with energy and running at lightning speed, despite a few changes in lineup, the Toasters have emerged today as leaders in the huge international underground ska scene. Founder and Moon Ska label owner Rob "Bucket" Hingley has assumed more lead-vocal chores since this '87 recording, and the loss of the Unity 2 duo, Sean and Lionel, who left to record their own discs. But Sean and Lionel are all over Skaboom, and this debut set owes much of its frenetic appeal to Hingley's songwriting, revved several notches higher by Unity 2's vocal charisma. Another bonus: the presence of the four-track Recriminations EP produced by legendary punkster Joe Jackson. With this album, the Toasters were the first to pick up where the U.K.'s two-tone bands had left off, substituting their own reflections of a roiling mid-'80s East Village, New York, energy for the social turmoil of the '70s-era U.K. that fueled that earlier era's ska sound. --Elena Oumano

Ska music review This and "Thrill me up" is all you need...
...from the toasters really. They were an amazing band. This record and they're 2nd blow the doors off anything they put out afterword. These are the days with the Unity 2 in the band. Sean and Lionel brought it all togehter. They were the lynch pin to the whole operation. Rob "Bucket" hingly is a great song writer and guitar player but it was the 2 that brought it all together. I only wish I could have seen them together. All other toasters records are pretty lack luster. There are a few good songs but no where near the hit after hit on those first two. Get Skaboom! and Thrill Me Up" and know that it was good then and one day someone will come to make it good again in the future.

Ska music review Confident, competent, catchy Latin jazz...
Just like a prior reviewer, I found this CD in the used section of our county's best music retailer. Never heard of the group, but since I like Afro-Cuban sounds, I gambled on it. Glad I did. This is pleasant stuff, but lively. Nothing dull here, yet nothing screechy. It's almost as interesting as the Blue Note label's famous "Latino Jazz" compilation, which features some of the greatest names in the Afro-Cuban category over the past four decades. If you like that kind of music, you'll appreciate Yeska's performances. They deliver horns, percussion, piano, guitar and bass. Nine of the ten tunes seem to be originals created by the six members of the group, who on this disc are joined by guests for extra percussion and the distinctive accent of a trombone. The one song not new is Herbie Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island". While the group creates a sensuous atmosphere, it is an active sensuality. The listeners who know how to mambo, tango or lambada will find it hard to sit still during these songs.

Ska music review HOT-HOT-HOT!!!
I came accross this CD in the used bin and thought it looked interesting. To my surprise, this is an OUTSTANDING record! You can't sit still , full of Latin Groves, it is a must have for any Jazz or Rock Fan. One of my cd's I can listen to by myself, or while throwing a Rockin' Party. Hope they release another.

Ska music review Who are these guys?
I bought this after hearing a couple of samples which made me want to hear more. I was simply blown away by the other songs on the album which aren't sampled and smoke, especially Skaliente and the Stakes Are High. If you like salsa and latin jazz you will burn out your stereo with this one.

Ska music review Old Skool Stoopid
There is some negativity in reviewes of this album but I believe its from people who arent true fans. This album is where they started and is a great punk album with very little reggae vibe. Yes it is very different from the new records but great as well. Dont spend $150+++ dollars unless you just want the original cover and cd which I completely understand and your die hard...more power to you. However if your someone who wants to save the cash or dont know much about these guys..yet have a love for punk style music then heed this...

DOWNLOAD ITUNES AND BUY THIS ALBUM FOR $10

Once again...awesome cd..just different

Ska music review Great Band, Great Album
If your here you most likely already know the band, and were looking for a copy of this relic, but if your like me your not going to drop $200 on a used cd. And amazon isnt stocking it. Well after waiting forever i finally found this album on i*T*u#n*e*s and it was about 10 bux. So if you like this band go grab a copy, you wont be disappointed.

Ska music review ....and the Legend Begins.......
This is the first release form the SD based band Slightly Stoopid. If you are a fan of Sublime then I'm sure you have heard of Slightly Stoopid. IF not, then you need to find this album. The freshman effort from the SD trio, is an amazing mix of Sublime style Dub Rock, and hard hitting punk originals. I was lucky enough to come across this album after listening to their sophmore release "Longest Barrel Ride." This album is amazing from start to finish, and at the end, to top it all off, the hidden track is a Song with the Late great Bradley Nowell playing bass on the track called "Ain't No Prophet." Definetly a treasure to have.

Ska music reivew Great, but Self-Titled is better
I recently bought this CD. I have been a fan of goldfinger for some time now, and after hearing the Self-Titled one I was totally amazed. Hang-ups followed up with a touch of Ska, and I also loved that CD. Buying this one, I had high expectations. Althought this CD is great, if you are a long time fan of Goldfinger you might not like it as much. Some of the best songs are Counting the Days, 99 Red Balloons, Im Down, and Pick A Fight. Although it isnt their best, it is still worth the money

Ska music review Awesome!!
I bought this CD when it first came out and I have been a Goldfinger fan since their first cd, Goldfinger. Before this i also bought the Hang ups CD and i thought and still think that those two are great! I bought the explicit version of this CD, thinking that they cut out too much in their clean version, and i was right. If you want to get this CD i highly reccomend the original one. Although I think the other Goldfinger Cds are better, I still give this one 5 stars. The standouts are Im Down, Dont Say Goodbye, Counting The Days, and 99 Red Baloons. If you want an awesome CD, buy this one, but i also highly reccomend Goldfinger and Hang- Ups!

Ska music review Goldfinger is the BEST BAND!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to rate this CD and the songs.

I'm Down- Nice punk tune. I like the chorus a lot. Great song 5/5

Pick A Fight- Great song. It gets annoying how he keeps on saying "Pick a fight" at the end though. 4/5

Carry On- Not enough loudnes in it, but it has cool lyrics and great music. 5/5

The End Of The Day- A nice loud song. In the begining he keeps on singing the chorus and that gets really annoying. 4/5

Don't SAy goodbye- My favorite song on the album. 5/5

And all the other songs on this album and the album:5/5

Buy it. It's awsome!

Ska music review Buy this CD, please
This a great disc, probably the best intro to Ska and Reel Big Fish there is. A good mix of Ska and Rock that leans more toward the Ska side, (Cheer Up! Is more rock, TTRO more ska)the songs are almost all upbeat and unbelievably catchy. The fist time you hear songs like "She's Famous Now" and "The Set-Up," they will be stuck in your head for weeks. Plenty of people say that this band is "starter" ska, because they can produce fans who will then get into other ska bands. But as a former ska-head, I can say that they are one of very few bands in the genre that I still want to listen to after expanding my horizons... the qualities that make them "starter," such as their catchiness and connections to other genres of music, make them a band for everyone to listen to. This CD was not made by some kids trying to cash in on the late 1990s ska trend. This was made by actual professional musicians. It's good music that a huge base of fans should be able to appreciate.

Ska music review RBF rocks, literally
If you are new to ska, RBF is a great band to start with. Not only are the lyrics catchy, the songs also include some great hooks (guitar riffs, horn lines, ect.). This album is not just ska, it contains many elements of different styles, including: some Jazz, a bit of punk, a spit of 80's retro, and even a tny tiny dose of rap. The songs are fast, loud, and make you want to sing and maybe even skank (that's a dance for ska). This album is a first pedestal for a ska fan, a must have if you will. So in conclusion buy this album.

Ska music review This is a great CD
If you want to buy this CD, do it. Its a seriosly cool CD. Anything done buy The RBF is cool. And even if you dont like it, you can say you have it and hang out with other really cool RBF fans. Listen to me. They are the ONLY people you should be hanging with. And becides, its a cool CD anyways. You got nothing to lose.
