Ska music review The Hippos Rock!!!
If you like skater punk kinda music and just plain funny music then this is the song. I LOVE the Hippos and this is their best song. I first heard it on the Snow Day soundtrack and ever since then i've been a devoted fan. IF you don't have their CD, GET IT!!!!

Ska music review I LOVE THIS SONG!
I saw this video and heard this song for the first time and I fell in love with them. I had never heard of them, but their first single sure won me over. It is an upbeat song that I am sure a lot of people can relate to (especially me) and you just can't help but dancing to it.

Ska music review THE BEST IS MEST
OUR OPINION IS SOMETIME BIASED SOMETIME NOT. HOWEVER THIS TIME ITS NOT. THESE GUYS REALLY HAVE SOMETHING GREAT GOING. AND, KNOWING THEIR HISTORY FROM FOLLOWING THEM FROM DAY ONE, THEY. HAVE CERTAINLY WORKED HARD DAYS AND NIGHTS TO GET WHERE THEY ARE. THEIR LYCRICS AND MUSIC NEED TO BE LISTENED TO CAREFULLY TO BE REALLY APPRECIATED. STAYING WITHIN THE MAIN STREAM, THEY HAVE STILL EMERGED WITH A UNIQUE SOUND WORTHEY OF THE EARS OF EVEN THE MOST TRAINED MUSICIAN AS WELL AS THE CASUAL LISTENER. THIS IS A GROUP THAT WILL BE AROUND FOR A LONG TIME! CHECK THEM OUT!

Ska music review Mest is the Best
If you like MXPX or The Ataris, you are sure to like Mest. This cd is great and I dont skip over any of the songs. This is a great chill-out cd! Lyrics like "the feeling is gone, the pain dwells on.." (on Long Days, Long Nights) are a winner. All of thier songs have an orignal sound to it they all sound different and they rock. They combine ska with pop punk very well, like in "Slow Motion" where they start out with the ska rhymth and then snap into punk. This is a must have, get it now!

Ska music review King Banana is Groovy
Get off the boat and slip into some groovy ska music by a German underground group called King Banana. The most royal song would have to be "Money, Money, Money", it brings the house down. Peel some existing new tunes with your friends.

I purchased a t-shirt from the King Banana web-site and I haven't been able to take it off, I just love it. I look forward to touring with King Banana in 2003 at Australia.

Ska music review The finest in British ska
I own this compilation on a now-pretty-worn-out cassette and am strongly thinking about picking up the CD version, and you should do the same if you're a ska fan--or just a fan of fun, tuneful, catchy, well-made pop music. "What Is Beat?" provides a good survey of the band's too-short career, from the early classics "Mirror in the Bathroom" and "Twist and Crawl" off "I Just Can't Stop It" to the wonderful "Doors of Your Heart" off "Wha'ppen" and the brilliant "Save It for Later" and "I Confess" off "Special Beat Service." I would note that the versions of "Doors of Your Heart" and "I Confess" here are slightly truncated from their original album versions, but that doesn't spoil the party. The CD version lacks the cassette bonus track "Psychedelic Rockers," but fortunately "Psychedelic Rockers" isn't one of the Beat's more indispensable songs. Even if this album wouldn't transport you back to the lonely nights and crowded dance floors of high school, as it would me, it's well worth many a listen.

Ska music review Glad I Still Have This
"What Is Beat?" was the first compilation of English Beat released in America. The rather short lived band (only three albums) is probably more influential than their output would suggest. They were multicultural, multi generational (sax man Saxa was 50 years old when he joined the group) and politically savvy. Their music could invoke controversy without the confrontation of obscenity (see "Stand Down Margaret") and mix soul and reggae without having to resort to more trendy measures.

As a result, their music has maintained a timeless feel to it. Songs like "Mirror In The Bathroom" or "Save it For Later" make much of what now passes for contemporary pop come up for the weak unoriginal pabulum that it is, and I long for the kind of band that could modernize a song like "Can't Get Used to Losing You" without it sounding like high camp.

While the more recent "Beat This!" collection boasts a few more songs, if you can find "What Is Beat?" I'd pick it up for the live version of "Get A Job/Stand Down Margaret" and the unreleased single "Hit It." Either compilation will do, but you really should have some BEAT in your life.

Ska music review Ultimate in ultimate ultimation
If you grew up in the 80's and do not have this CD (Along with Louder than Bombs by the Smiths) then you did not actually listen to music back then. Ok, that's a bit extreme but make no mistake this is one of the greatest compilations ever assembled (there I go again). The English Beat were an amazing band that defined an era for a lot of people. I have this on vinyl and have worn it down. This CD should be added to your collection and played to your children and your children's children. There is no cusing, no rapping, no hard metal solos, no screaming....i think i'm gonna cry.

Ska music review A-J-B is G-O-D
This cd is great. The only downfall is its 15 minute length, but the songs are awesome. The remix to dead neighbors is almost like the gorillaz remix to their already great song 19-2000 (however, i doubt many people buying punk/ska cds listen to the gorillaz, so ill leave that alone). All you need to know, is that that song was beautifully remixed. Entry Level Positions was begging to be remixed and it got its wish on track 3. Buy this cd, but first make sure you've already got What's Really Going On!?! and The Assorted Jellybeans self-titled cd.

good: awesome songs, with awesome new way to hear them. Dead Neighbors and Entry Level Positions were perfect choices on this ep, along with Bushduckdow and I'm Out.

bad: very short, and remix to the Instrumental song wasn't really needed, seeing as its an instrumental.

Ska music review The Ghettoest AJB ever!!!!
This is awesome!!! i have it on vinyl, and its not crappy techno remixes that sound the same, with a repetative pounding bass drum. These are ska/reggae remixes, perfected. DEFINATLY buy this.

      Ska music review Rap-Punk?
If you liked the old AJB, you're in for a big surprise! This cd is what I would call "Rap-Punk". It's got techno/rap like beets and rhythms but still with the old AJB voice. I recommend this cd for any AJB fan.

      Ska music review Amazing!
Amazing music from an amazing band. Makes every evening and every event much more entertaining! Songs have a very up beat tune and a point behind the lyrics which is refreshing to hear in today's music.

Ska music review THE SIREN SIX! are amazing!
Young And Professional is some of The Six's best stuff. A Voice With a Built in Promise was an amazing album as well. This cd is short but sweet. And my favorite song is "Back is Breaking". The Siren Six! are begining to change their style to match their favorite band, The Pixies, but I love their new stuff as well.

Ska music review Singles from old 45s
Great selection of singles that most of us rude boys have never heard. And here they are for the very first time on CD. The jacket also provides valuable info regarding some of these one hit groups: who they were, how they evolved(if they evolved past their single),and where some of these kats are playing now. Fans with recognize some favorites like Judge Dread and Aurthur Kay as well as some great UK bands (at least I had) never heard. Check it out, you wont dissapointed. If you are, you can blame me!!!!!!

Ska music review A nice mix of 2-tone bands that never made it big
This CD is a must have for fans of 2-Tone who are tired of hearing "message to you" and " On my Radio". The songs on this double album are almost never heard, and thats a shame because a lot of them are good. Liner notes tell a world of information on the bands. Worth buying.
