Ska music review Good cd
I really liked this cd alot. It has good songs by artists that I don't like any of their other songs, and it also introduced me to some new reggae artists. One of my best reggae cd's

Ska music review Great Reggae Mix
I consider myself a huge Reggae Fan and this 6-disc box set is well worth the minimal amount of money spent! It isn't anything too heavy and it isn't too cheesy. There are a bunch of pop songs remade Reggae Stylee but it makes for GREAT background music if lounging around the house or chillin' on your boat. A must buy...

Ska music review Clancy Eccles--one of the greatest
Clancy Eccles provided a niche to the Jamaican music scene in the lates 60s and early 70s. His work painted pictures of a modern Jamaica coming into its own, as a producer his talents are greatly overlooked because of sheer largess talents as Duke Reid and Sir Coxsone heavily mashing up the place at the time. However Eccles managed to prove he had potential to be king of de arena as well. This album also known as "Clancy Eccles Presents" showcases early talent, Beres Hammond, Alton Ellis, King Stitt, and the beautiful and bouncy "Let us be lovers" by Velma and Clancy, who also enjoyed holding a tune as well as producing. This is a great album.

Ska music review the good stuff
While in the midst of listening to the record and admiring the fact that they're from Eugene, OR (not far from my hometown), right in the middle of "Headline News" I had a sudden flashback of dancing around the Oddfellow's Hall in Corvallis, OR to this very song - I'd actually seen these guys before! Brought back some good memories. This is a punk ska band. But not the same ole same ole punk ska...that is so prevalent of the punk ska mania era. This is the real deal. Punk, reggae, and ska, all complimenting each other and lyrics of about real things, not "oh my girl left me and I'm oh so sad," and typical cheesy lyrics. Definitely a good pick for anyone either from the NW or a fan of punk (the good kind).

Ska music review No Doubts "Return" was worth its wait
Even though it has been 5 years since no doubt spun into the mainstream music scene with a Ska/Alternative hit album, their new album "Return of Saturn" proves that they are talented musicians with Staying power. Their sound has matured as with the lyrics. Even with a few subtle electronic type sounds that give the album a "futuristic" type appeal. The album features hit songs like Ex-Girlfriend, New, and "Simple kind of Life," along with bonus tracks "Big Distraction" and "Full Circle," that are not available on the US version of the album, and in my opinion these 2 songs are great tracks that should have been placed on every release. Over all this is a great CD that has the ability to please not only die hard No Doubt fans, but new-comers as well. "Return of Saturn" will have you returning for more and more!

Ska music review Skankin' GOOD Fun from BAD MANNERS!!!
If you're a fan of Bad Manners, you more than likely already own this classic CD. For the unititated, or the curious, it is a good introduction to the Britain's silly ska-masters. For over 20 years, Bad Manners has been lead by the legendary, chrome-domed hulking behemoth of a vocalist called Buster Bloodvessel (looks like a giant, fat Mini-Me). In "Return of the Ugly", Buster and his musical accomplices have assembled an energetic and highly entertaining collection of SKA'N'B tunes that will have you (and maybe your neighbors) skanking from start to finish and maybe a few times over again.

Among the album's high points, "Skaville U.K." is a rousing opening number which will get you up on your feet, and you'll be tempted to sing along with the chorus of "Sally Brown". "Bonanza Ska" is wonderfully silly fun, incorporating ska renditions of several well-known Western TV or movie themes - this track displays the tightness of the band, particularly the excellent horn section. "Buffalo Ska" is another terrific song, a bit slower tempo, with a haunting trumpet solo that would be right at home on an Ennio Morricone spaghetti-Western soundtrack. "Rocksteady Breakfast" has more of a reggae/dub flavor to it, and "Baby Elephant Walk" is an infectious frentetic instrumental which sounds like a rev'd up version of a classic big band tune (which it could be!).

Bad Manners never aspired to be the thinking person's ska band, they just like to have fun, and invite you to join them. Although it is impossible to capture the manic energy of Bad Manners' sweaty live performances in a studio recording, this CD comes close, and faithfully displays the talents of the musicians. Put this in your CD player, and try NOT to skank - I DARE YOU!

Ska music review Neglected gem
Riding the Musical Chariot is an early but excellent Heartbeat rock steady compilation. Derrick Harriott is not as well known as superstar Jamaican producers Duke Reid of Treasure Island or Coxsone Dodd of Studio One but his work was first rate. Harriott takes lead vocal on two of the tracks here but the real gems are the four tracks he produced for the the unjustly neglected duo of Keith and Tex. CD also contains two very good songs by the Ethiopians and some hard to find material by the Kingstonians. Harriott's crack studio band - the Crystalites - contributes some sizzling instrumentals as well. Fans of the golden era of rock steady will love this music.
