Ska music review I love Pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This album is one of three featured on Amazon. As said in the other reviews, I to enjoyed "The Wonderful Beef" and "Full Speed Ahead(which for whatever reason is not carried by this site)" They gained a little fame for their song and music video "Jabberjaw" on Cartoon Network. If you want fast, fun, lighthearted music look no further, you just struck Gold my friend, GOLD! This is a great band for anyone, I have had many of my friends listen to Pain and they all have loved every catchy lyric to pour out of the speakers. My favorite songs on this album are "Fight", "Chuck Al Hashib", and "Derision". Springman Records recently has been putting out reissues of Pain's albums making the hunt to collect this excellent band's albums painfully easy. If you want to find Pain albums cheeper AND get brand new copies, you can find them at www.springmanrecords.com and www.thepainpage.com

Ska music review As energetic as pixie stix with speed wobbles
PAIN ROCKS. This amazing band was introduced to me by a dear friend in Geogia. Music is well thought-out, yet playful and delightfully schizophrenic. Ear candy courtesy of guitars, drums, horns, accordion, ukelele, etc. This music is suitable for mailbox baseball, late night rendezvous with pinball machines, and even calculus homework. Provided a much-needed punk/ska/emo/rock enema for my tired CD collection. I recommend not only this CD, but also Full Speed Ahead and Wonderful Beef. Hats off to this collection; I now obtain as much Pain as I can get my grubby, punky little mitts on. Best cuts: "Fight", "One-Legged Girl", "Chuck Al Hashib."

Ska music review Recommendations r0x0r
I was lucky enough to have a friend that opened up for Pain a few times. He recommended this CD to me. I'm more of a alternative/rock or heavy metal type of person. I absolutely love this CD. Fight is definitely my favorite song on Midgets with Guns. I'm spreading the word, now. The lyrics are hilarious, the music is upbeat and lively, and it definitely holds your interest. I love the variety of instruments and sounds. This band should be more well known.

Ska music reivew ska-rific
This has become my favorite Bosstones album, bumping 'Let's Face It' to a very close second. 'I'll Drink To That' is probably my favorite Bosstones song. In fact, the first seven tracks on this album are fantastic, with the only slowdown occuring at the start of 'Guns And The Young'. It almost seems awkward to have the Bosstones delivering a serious message. Aren't these guys just about partying and ripping through their unique blend of ska-punk-rock? Nevertheless, a very excellent outing and definitely the first album I would recommend for purchase to anyone getting into the Bosstones.

Ska music review One of the best small venue bands EVER!!!
I have been listening to the Bosstones for about 13 years maybe 12. I have seen them live countless times. From large venue (Horde tour, Warp Tour) type festivals to club shows. If they ever play a club near you jump at the chance to go. Don't skip to see them on a large stage, just don't get all hyped up it will be a let down. Nothing to do with the Band they sound great, just not the same type of atmosphere as the club gigs.

The last time I saw them was I believe 2000 or 2001 at the 9:30 Club in D.C. (great venue by the way) One of the best - not quite as good as when they were younger but still one the best shows ever for that size of a club.

More Noise and Other Disturbances is a good album, but Live from the Middle East really captures the energy and feel of a live Bosstone show. I really have a hard time listening to their studio albums. On a one to five rating More Noise and Other Disturbances gets a 5, while Live from the Middle East would get an 8 on the same rating scale. Absolutley the best, off the chart.

Ska music review If u don't know who the bosstones are kill yourself now!
I started listening to the bosstones when Let's Face It came out and even though it's an amazing album More Noise and Other Disturbances is the kind of album that you will play again and again and again.Every bosstones full length has it's own sound and this is no exception as all the tracks are catchy but also make you think at the same time.If you've only heard some of their more recent stuff you'll be glad you picked this up. It is a little short but who wants an album thats over an hour long and sucks? There's no bad tracks on this album so get it now!

Ska music review if you really love music.......
the daddies are for you. i am lucky enough to own all of their work and with the exception of ferociously stoned (their first release), they are all awesome. this is my #1 favorite cd out of all their work. an adventure in musical styles, you will be surprised with every song.

Ska music review Buy this CD... seriously.
Everything I was ever looking for in music, I found in Rapid City Muscle Car. Skyline Drive is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It is probably the most diverse album you can get and all of the musicians are as talanted as they come. I picked up the CD in an obscure shop on a vacation in Virginia, and it really is all I can remember about the trip. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying that Virginia was borning, that's just how powerful this album was. Okay maybe a little boring...
Do yourself a favor and pick this one up, or at least listen to the samples. All of them.

Ska music review CPD is the best band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Cherry Poppin Daddies are a wonderful band. I really like this CD. Infact out of the four it is my favorite. It has all different kinds of music. The Lyrics are touching. As I said it before they are a wonderful band!

Ska music review still a huge favorite 5 years later
i had to do an updated review because i can't believe how nobody mentioned the heavy influence at the drive-in had on this cd (along with brick_bomb). this is the kind of cd that you rediscover over and over again, no matter what kind of music you're into. they were definitely ahead of their time with this cd.

Ska music review Like Everyone Sez "This Rocks!"
Very very different from the Early Anthology Comp. They decided to abandon their ska/punk style and add an emotional touch to their music a la Weezer, other indie "emo" bands. Yeah, I'll stop now because all the other reviews explain the same thing. And it's an awesome, poppy, heavy at times and good melodic music. Sadly the Impossibles are no more, but try Slowreader's album out on Fueled by Ramen. It's sort of a project between the core of the Impossibles...Gabe and Rory.

Ska music review Title. Title title title title title.
This is quite possibly my alltime favorite CD. The Impossibles reach a pinacle of mellow melodic punk, if such a genre can even exist. While other albums, such as the Anthology, are high quality albums, I prefer this album simply because their sound had a chance to develop further.
I was going to list my favorite songs but I turned on the CD and remembered that all of the songs are my favorites. Intermission must be mentioned above all else simply because it is so unique: A round that starts off with a piano playing a simple repeated melody, slowly adds in guitars and other instruments before finally adding vocals. Simple and intricate at the same time, it's a truly beautiful song.

Byron Lee, the driving force behind Jamaica's Calypso-soca scene, is also the brains behind that island's rapidly expanding carnival celebration. Years ago he threw a little fete on the Kingston campus of the University of the West Indies; today the several-weeks-long event features a full pantheon of Caribbean Calypso and soca stars, a tentative hybrid called "soggae," as well as concerts headlined by Jamaican vintage artists, the greats of ska, rock steady, and early reggae. The dizzying array of events, parties, parades, and marches draws celebrants from all over the world, including other islands, especially Trinidadians, who come not only to quench an insatiable party thirst but to cast a nervous eye on the competition. For this set, Lee and his band re-create the unique flavor of Jamaican carnival with their interpretations of hits by leading exponents like Trinidad's David Rudder and Machel Montano. Although measuring up to the original interpretations is near impossible, the Dragonaires acquit themselves admirably, and while some find soca's insistent thudding beat monotonous, Lee and company prove that from armchair dancer to "champion bubbler," no one can resist soca's call to "jump and wine." --Elena Oumano

IF YOU ARE JUST BEGINNING TO GET FAMILIAR WITH SOCA MUSIC, THIS CD IS A GREAT ONE TO START OFF YOUR COLLECTION. IF YOU WANT TO GET IN THE CARIBBEAN MOOD I GUARANTEE YOU THIS ONE WILL DO IT. LISTENING TO THE SONG "DOGGIE" BROUGHT BACK SOME GREAT MEMORIES FROM THE JOLLY ROGER TOUR DOWN IN BARBADOS. IT SEEMS THAT BYRON LEE KNOWS HOW TO GET PEOPLE TO START DANCING CARIBBEAN STYLE!

Ska music review awesome!
this album is amazing! it seems as though no one besides virginia colloge kids have heard these guys, which is such a shame. the lyrics are clever, vocals smooth, and the intrumentals are so creative. if you like anything like bob marley or dave matthews this album is definitly worth it.

Ska music review http://thisismodern.iscool.net
Fighting Gravity has hit the music scene in a big way with their first release on Mercury Records. "You And Everybody Else" appeals to every music lover out there, including you and everybody else. The amazing musical talent of these guys from Richmond, Virginia is definitely something to write home about. Never has any band ever put more music and energy into ten songs than these guys. This disc features some redone FG classics and new tunes that will make you fall out of your seat. I suggest standing while listening due to the need to jump and move around. Their sound has reggae, ska, and rock influences and incorporates each into every song. The best jams on this album are definitely the highly acoustic "Forgotten" and the horn-driven "Walk Into My Eyes." The music is powerful and lead singer, Schiavone McGee's vocals flow like a waterfall: smooth yet intense. It's fitting that McGee's vocals flow so well because with song titles like "Waterfall,"

"Lost In The Rain," and "Bend The Light" you can actually picture the motion of the music in each song. "Lost In The Rain" and "Bend The Light" are two classics revisited on this album and are definitely the best versions to date. By far, the songs with the best and most vocal influence are the "Wait For You" and "Turn To Me." These two songs alone will either cause you to move gracefully or fall deep into a musical trance. Fighting Gravity's grooving, jamming sounds are highly hypnotic and will leave you seeking more. They have 5 albums before this one that you must check out if this disc amazes you, and it will. These guys are exactly what the modern rock music scene needs to revive itself.

Ska music review awesome. simply awesome.
okay, a really good friend of mine was talking about how much he loved fighting gravity, and all i could think of was 'who the HECK is fighting gravity??'. he talked me into going to one of their concerts with him. i went, and i was completely won over. they are an awesome band.

well, i put off buying the cd, just because i figured i had enough cds. well, about two months ago, and decided, eh, what the heck, i'll buy it. i did. and i'm just as impressed as i was when i went to the concert, if not more. i haven't gotten tired of listening to them. they're almost as good as the pat mcgee band, who i'm absolutely crazy about (i recommend 'shine' too).

buy this cd. NOW. i may sound demanding, but its good advice. trust me.

    Ska music review Simply Delicious
The Slackers are amazing musicians, and this album is probably my favorite of theirs on a collective level. If you are new to the Slackers, or ska in general, this album is a fantastic introduction. "Cooking For Tommy" starts the album off with a danceable, instrumental track. "Married Girl" is a classic and catchy Slackers song, and sexy "Soldier" follows it up. "Rude and Reckless" is incredible, while "Come Back Baby" is a favorite love song of mine - acoustic, and just beautiful. Every song in between is great, as well. Again, these guys are just AMAZING. I recommend all of their material, expecially this album.

Ska music review timeless, classic ska
even though the slackers were around (before, during, and after) the horrid 3rd wave ska revolution, they are nothing like the skankin' pickle and save ferris mess of the mid 90's... they are one of the best bands i have ever heard. they are brilliant, and truly what ska was intended to evolve into. victor ruggerio has THE sexiest voice i have ever heard in my entire life. "married girl" is one of my all time favorite songs; it is a provocative, swooning ballad with amazing imagery and equally sexy music. "solider" is another one of my favorites; again the slackers demonstrate the ability to make a dark subject incredibly sexy. to sum it all up, this is a quote from my book in progress: "I had a past experience with The Slackers, the one and only ska band that I like, and one of my all time favorite local bands. (One of my favorite East Coast north of New Jersey bands to be exact - I'm a bit of a music fiend.)"

Ska music review Get this one
This is definately my favorite Slackers album. I have all of their music, seriously every album on both CD and vinyl, and I have to say without a doubt that Redlight is the best. If you are new to the Slackers, get this one. If you already have The Question or Better Late Than Never or any other one, GET THIS ONE TOO! The Slackers are one of the top five best bands ever!!!!!!
