Ska music reviews

This disc has a permanent place in my rotation. The disc is a concept piece which hangs together well. The music is hard to classify. Acid ska?

The band is one of my all-time favorites and has the added advantage of being from my home state, Michigan. Word on the street is that they're in the studio now...I can't wait for the result!!

I envy anybody who doesn't own this cd, because that means you get to enjoy the experience of listening to it for the first time. These guys are from Greeley, CO and they lay down the Ska riddims with all the flavor and funk you might NOT expect from a small town ska band. Super strong horn section and tight bass lines to hold it all together. Go see their live show and rediscover why you love SKA so damn much!

I heard this album for the first time in January of 98', it belonged to a friend so from that day on I was searching for it. I finally found it on Amazon.com! Enough of that brown-nozing! This Album will put you in a great mood! It's got everything you could want in a future classic Ska CD. The tunes are all rock solid efforts from some talented musicians. You will especially enjoy the title track. Ten years from now if Bluekilla is still playing, real Ska fans will be itching to get a first printing of this album. The same goes for if Bluekilla isn't playing, only that itch will be a bit worse! This album puts all of the albums by the Toasters or Scofflaws to shame. In quality it compares to the modern greats of Hepcat or the Slackers and artistically is very remindful of the Specials first album though with a leaning towards the sound Madness had when they produced One Step Beyond. Get it you'll like it! Warning! Not for consumption by stupid radio-punk-pop-semi-! ska fans!

BEST and original Ska CD outside of the Carribean. Cool music that sounds as good today as it did then. WORD.

A mix of well-known covers of Jamaican tunes (Rudy: A Message to You), live cuts (the Beat's Rough Rider & Mirror in the Bathroom) and lesser-known tunes by the Skadows (We Gotta Get Outa This Place), the Volcanoes (Is There Anybody There?) and many more, Ska Crazy will complete any Skankin' fan's two-tone archive of these fun and essential songs. This is one of my favoraties and I own a lot of Ska. It is better then volume one with hard to find tracks by Orange Street, Brave New Girl and Wicked Wicked Pepperseed. "She Don't Drink White Wine" sold me on Orange Street instantly resulting in my buying several other CD's which feature them, including New Your Beat: Breaking and Entering 2.

I would have given it a 4.5 if the system allowed it.

Track 1: 5 Instrumental- The tempo of take 3 without as much power in the drums and base.
Track 2: 4.5 Instrumental featuring Johnny Moore.
Track 3: 4.5 Balled- Short and R&B-ish
Track 4: 5 Ramblin Jazz- Excelent traditional jazz track by the Skatalites.

Track 5: 3.5 Soulda ben an instrumental- The backing instrumentation is great and the lyrics are decent... but the guy reciting them cannot sing to save his life. This would be a great track for a cover, if a decent singer where provided.

Track 6: 5 Instrumental- featuring Johnny Moore
Track 7: 5 Singing backed by the skatalites.
Track 8: 5 Instrumental- Best track. Not the Skatalites but reminiscent of their best classics.
Track 9: 5 On the disc is actualy Money or love.
Track 10: 5 Instrumental
Track 11: 5 Instrumental- Typical Skatalite greatness.
Track 12: 4.5 Instrumental
Track 13: 5 Instrumental- Typical Skatalite greatness.
Track 14: 5 An instrumental and talk over.

Wash over Gold is an eclectic blend of musical styles, blended with Grennan's powerful reggae beat. This album features world class musicians with others not as well known, but equally as good. Winston's lyrics, socially and politically potent, are blended with intricate melodies and rhythms. Winston is a master drummer,reggae's best; in fact one of the world's best.

if you are at all into ska, or even what passes for ska these days, then this album is a must.
