Ska music reviews

if you are at all into ska, or even what passes for ska these days, then this album is a must.

I purchased this C.d. a number of months ago and I would have to say it's excellent. There's ska music here from all over the world from Brazil to Finland, from the US to Japan. My personal favorites being Spook and the Guay and the Liberators. If you like ska music, you need to get this C.d.

If you are a serious Reggae fan this is a must. After 6 years of Reggae on the River in Northern California the music comes out. The second CD is a live recording from the 1998 ROTR and it totally rips.

From "Storm Warning" to "Green Acres", this CD is jam packed with jazz, latin, and ska. Although there are not many lyrics, the groove of the songs is excellent!! This CD is a definite recommend for any fans of ska, latin or jazz music!!!

This is a great album! Contains most tracks from the Justin Yap produced "Scattered Lights" album from Alligator Records. Also includes some other tracks from those sessions. This album is part of a four disc set released in Japan on the NEC Avenue Label.

This overview of various types of ska includes some of the best, most fun and danceable music assembled into one collection. Some of the lyrics may offend delicate sensibilities, but it's all in good fun. Best tracks include the infectious "Come On In Sin," the James Bond-themed "Agent 13," the metal-laced "Irish Whiskey," and the hilarious "Hard Up," which is like a Jewish wedding-style ode to unrequited desire. Recommended with great gusto!

I bought this album a few months ago and I listen to it over and over and I haven't grown tired of it yet!! I think they put the greatest artist with there skankable songs all on one album! I totally recomend this one!

I had written a review under its other listing, now I'm filling in this column. Ska is life. From the very first track "Big Haired Girls", you know you're not listening to Top 40 radio, Ska is both goofy and serious at the same time, moving along to "Mr. Smiley", a sad tale of a friend gone awry, to "Gals Panic", the story of a guy who can't get a date and really seems to like Devo (just listen to it already!), culminating in "Walkin' Shangbootie", the story of a very, very, dirty man, you know you've got a treasure in your hands. Do whatever you have to, to own this great double CD and demand to your director (if in Hollywood) that there be a movie that features a all-ska soundtrack (BaseKetBall came close, however!!!)

a great comp of mostly southern california ska bands following in the traditional jamaican styles mixed with jazz and latin grooves. excellent tracks by favorites like hepcat and yeska. much recommended.

Two classic ska/reggae records together in one package. Beleive me, this is really good stuff, especially the Monkey Business comp. So if you are a fan of early reggae or ska I highly recomend this albumn.
