Ska music reviews

I almost feel obliged to write a review for this true
little gem. I've had it for years and it is as essential
as any Island release. Its classic Marley (post Ska,
pre Island) and offers mixes of songs that are not
often found elsewhere. In a "sea" of Marley albums,
most of which are regurgitations of tracks readily
found on any so-called 'best-of' or 'essential' set of his
early recordings, this disc really is essential! I've been a Marley fan for over 15 years and can honestly say that this
disc offers the real thing; it has held up over time and remains in my collection. If you want only the best in your Marley collection - don't omit this offering!

very nice. the Guru's craft is so solid, from skanking ska to haunting dub, always laying down the thick bass. who needs vocals?? this is true ska.

* Includes historical versions of "And I Love Her" (The Beatles), "I'm Still Waiting", "Put It On", "Cry To Me", "Sinner Man" (AKA "Downpressor Man"), "Who Feels It Knows It", "Let Him Go", "When The Well Runs Dry", "Can't You See", "Rolling Stone", "Bend Down Low" and "Rocking Steady"
* Includes 2 versions of "Wages Of Love": the first is a 1965 rehearsal featuring Bob with (probably) Rita and Marlene Gifford, the second is the released 7'' version featuring Bob with Rita and Bunny
* Chronological liner notes by Roger Steffens and Leroy Pierson
* In most cases the tracks were taken from the original (1965-1968) master tapes (fair sound quality)

BOTTOM LINE:
If you are a tried-and-true Wailers' fan, then this is a vital album for you; If you are not, then don't start your collection with this album (try "Burnin'" or "Catch A Fire" first).

I own the record of this fantastic album and have rarely enjoyed an entire album so much! It is not at all what one would expect of Bob Marley; it is not rasta but early ska. The songs fantastic and you must hear them, buy the album and be completly satisfied.

St. Louis punk rock at it's finest. They're on Dill Records and are recording again so look for some split CDs soon with possibly Humble Beginnings and El Gordo's Revenge. Go see them if they come to your town.

This is no doubt the best canadian ska band. This band knows how to get you to move. I found myself skankin' without even realizing it. This c.d. has not left my ghetto blaster for 2 months and I don't see it eaving anytime soon.

if you love sublime than you would have to get this cdthe remix of doin time goes along well with saw red its almost like a sampler between robbin the hood and sublime its worth the price again

This EP is worth it just because of the Doin' Time Remix with the Pharcyde. That is a great song from two of Long Beach's best.

you have no idea how good this is. If you be down, with a face so long it takes an hour to shave, this will bring you right up. its that good.

A close family friend put this disc together so I'm a bit biased.... without a doubt, one of the best compilations I've heard! Highly recommended!

One of my favorite compilations to come out in 1998. It has traditional ska, rock steady and dub. A very original mix of music. Definetly get this one.
