Ska music review The best Ska from the 90's
If you love ska and loved it especially in the and 90's, this is the cd for you! The best track, in my opinion, is, "I Missed the Bus." It's rare to find this on a cd. My old copy was on tape. Skank to your heart's content!

Ska music review A must have Pickle CD
This is My favorate Skiankin' Pickle cd, it has all the best songs: Hussein Skank, Pseudo Punk, Silly Willy(my favorate track),Skinless Friend,I missed the bus, and a lot more, this is a must own ska cd or whatever you listen to

Ska music review Very good
Whoever said only one singer is on this album lied. There are three different singers who all have their own unique personality. These songs are great because the intrsumental and the vocals go perfectly together. You never get bored during long intrusmental parts, as I often do. I give it five stars!

Ska music review Asians Rock skankin' music!!!!
first i heard this band i thaught it was operation ivy, they got really good skankin' lines that make you stomp your feet. Go asians ska some more....asia pitch control

Ska music review Some of the best Nor Cal ska ever!
This is a really underrated and overlooked ska band, which is a pitty, becaue they really rock! What I personally fells separates this album from others is ahte outstanding bass. It really adds a sense of fullness to the music which a lot of other albums lack. The organ which they use on occasion also makes the sound catchy and original. Anybody who likes ska should have this CD in their collection. The Chinkees can skat, riff and jam just as good as any other ska band, but nobody seems to notice. In all honsesty this is some og the sickest ska I have ever heard! Rock on my asian brothers (and sister)

Ska music review Hola!!
Sup. Well I just got this CD and it is great. The Chinkees put out straight forward ska backed up by an awesome organ (hmm, never thought I'd be into organs). Although sometimes the music gets a little repetive, they always manage to make each song interesting in their own way. There aren't a lot of horns here, but the organ makes up for their lack. If you are tired of all these ska-core-punk bands and just want some good, straight forward ska, this album is for you. Of course, I warn you, this album is mostly likely only for those of you who like ska/reggae. I was about to give them 4 stars but I was like, hey! What the heck is wrong about them? Nothing! so I gave them 5 stars. Ooo! Two more pluses about this album: Mike Park (the main vocalist) sings a couple songs in what I think is Korean (Tight!) and the band has an awesome anti-racist message. Great stuff.

Ska music reivew Great archival ska compilation
"100% Dynamite" is the first in a series of 5 compilations of Jamaican music across time. While the other 4 jump from dancehall to dub and back to ska without any real regard for chronology, "100% Dynamite" focuses on the ska recordings which led to the style we all now know as reggae.

While this is a considerable boon to the fan of Jamaican music, those whose experience of ska is found in the ska-punk fusions of America and England will be sorely disappointed. Much of this disc is instrumental and, while it is very exuberant, the style is quite different to what passes for ska these days.

The first selections ("Armagideon Time", "Night And Day" and "Rock Steady") are all vocal cuts and not representative of the disc at all. "Armagideon Time" is an early rastafarian spiritual, while "Night and Day" and "Rock Steady" are both love songs - with the latter being voiced by a woman.
By the fourth track, the Upsetters' "Popcorn", the album takes off. Lee Perry, the man behind the Upsetters, can already be heard working his trademark studio magic that would later feature on recordings by artists as diverse as Bob Marley and Junior Murvin. The track is a deceptively simple bass, drum and guitar melody which varies ever so slightly and at the least expected moments.

Legendary saxophonist Tommy McCook also contributes a number, "Green Mango". McCook, a founder member of the Skatalites - the seminal ska band - leads from the front with the desire of a jazz player. "Greedy G", by the Brentford Allstars, which follows this performance is also a standout.

The rest of the disc is also very strong. Jackie Mittoo (Skatalites pianist) acquits himself admirably on "Stereo Freeze", and Phyllis Dillon's heartfelt "Woman of the Ghetto" could well be claimed as one of the first "sufferer's songs". Lloy'd Robinson's "Cuss Cuss" demonstrates a clear link to the reggae for which Jamaica would very soon become famous, his sweet vocals counterpointing with the important message of the song.

Overall, this album is a very useful collection of early ska and proto-reggae. Many of the artists are under-represented at best on the CD racks of the world, and these recordings are certainly among their best. Thus, from a serious fan's point of view, the compilation is very much worthwile.
The ska or reggae newcomer may also benefit from this disc, but this is slightly less likely. The sad truth is that, after all is said and done, many of the instrumentals do tend to blur into each other - no matter how outstanding they may be. The newcomer may be better served with a Skatalites greatest hits to begin with.

Ska music review Classic collection that gets better with every release
The Dynamite ! releases from Soul Jazz Records in London are the definitive releases of some of the best reggae and Rock steady music from the late 70s, some of which is not pressed on the original labels anymore and is therefore hard to find.

I started checking out Dynamite ! about three years ago and so far own 1-400% of their 800% (i think) releases. Anything Ive bought under Soul Jazz Records has been nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend their releases.

Ska music reivew The Birth of a Legend
Awesome.Very artistic, and spiritual

Ska music review important
This cd is a treasure trove of very very early Wailers material, back when they were doing ska, as well as r&b based tracks.

Even in these early tracks, there are glimpses of the greatness to come for both Marley, who is mostly featured, and Peter Tosh.

Great vocals, wonderful music, and a very important piece to the overall puzzle that was the Wailers' music in the bginning. Indispensible listening.

Ska music review Who Hears It Loves It
And "Who Feels It Knows It." This is a lovely collection of the Wailers early ska works, well presented and sensibly priced too. This and LEGEND make a nice place to start a Marley library. Give thanks.

Ska music reivew Not a bad warped comp
The reason I gave this CD 4 stars is because the songs are not recorded from Warped Tour, and most aren't even live. Other than that, it's a good array of styles, ranging from Pennywise to Amazing Royal Crowns. It also has an enhanced feature, with cool footage of skaters. Buy this if you like pop-punk, ska, and the intense energy of Warped Tour.

Ska music reivew Good Compilation
Warped Music II is a very good compilation CD with a nice mix of styles (Ska, Hardcore, Emo [sort of], and, of course, Pop-Punk). The best tracks being MXPX's 'Party, My House, Be There', Riverfenix's 'Speechless', Blink 182's live "Apple Shampoo', Pennywise's 'Just For You', and Frenzal Bomb's 'Never Had So Much Fun', though most of the CD is very good. Definately worth the price, especially if you are a pop-punk fan.

Ska music review Warped Music
Incase anybody hasn't noticed, all of the songs on this incredible CD were used in the popular Mortal Kombat arcade games, namely MK II and MK III. If you have Mortal Kombat Trilogy on Playstation, then you already own this CD. Just stick it in your CD player and you'll be surprised to find that the Playstation game is also an audio soundtrack --- 'A Compilation of Warped Music'!!! Every track on this artistically 'warped' album are well-done and enjoyable. This is simply the killer Mortal Kombat Trilogy soundtrack, just with a different title. The Bottomline: I LOVE THIS DISC!!!! GET IT!! It'll warp your mind!

Ska music reivew Good but definitely not their best
I've been a Fighting Gravity/Boy O Boy fan since I first saw them open for the Kinks at the boathouse in Norfolk, VA. Forever=1 Day is a good solid CD but it lacks the energy and sheer fun of some of their earlier releases such as Shiskabob and No Stopping No Standing. I especially wish the horns were more prominent on this album. This is a good CD but it's definitely not their best work

Ska music review Fighting Gravity (Fighting to Break-Through
I've been listening to this band since I was 12 years old and I gotta tell ya they get better every time I listen to 'em. The blend of ska roots and a softer form of acoustice rock is simply sublime. I've seen them several times and recommend their concerts just as highly as I do their CD.

Ska music review Fighting Gravity's evolution into new territory a success
If your musical taste includes Dave Matthews, this band is for you. Although they've played together, Fighting Gravity's ska-based tunes, laced with amazing horns, are quite different than Dave's - though equally as good. Fighting Gravity's longevity has translated into musical maturity: Dave P.'s bass is excellent, and Mike's percussion is superb. Lead singer Schiovannie is a blast to watch on stage, and just as wonderful to listen to on the CDs. If you're a first time buyer, Forever-1 Day (epecially songs #2 and #4) is a great starting point, and try to catch them as they tour up and down the eastern seaboard from VT, to MA, NY, and of course their home state of VA. You'll have a great time.

Ska music reivew 3and a half stars
this music is good as a fast paced background when painting- no other time, tho...

Ska music review Excellent.
This is easily one of the best punk comps I've ever bought. The songs on here excepting one or two are solid gold. Well worth four dollars, to say the least.. it's one of those CD's it is hard to get tired of...

Ska music review Better than any Punk-O-Rama or Fat Music
This is the best punk comp I've bought. Like any comp, there's a bunch of ..., but on this one there's just as much good stuff as there is not good stuff. There's about two songs from each band and in most cases, if one song is good, both of them are. The good ones are by Mustard Plug, Selby Tigers, Falling Sickness, Digger, The Queers, The Weakerthans, and, of course, Samiam. There's a few other good ones, but those are my favorites right now. If nothing else, buy this comp for the fact that Samiam and the Weakerthans are on here and that it's only four bucks. -Randy

Ska music reivew A bit of a letdown.
I purchased this album a while ago and yes, I am a just a little disapointed. This is by far the worst cd Mustard Plug has put out. There funky vocals and "skankin" feel is just gone. This album is really leaning toward the pop-ska category instead of just plain ska. This is no Big Daddy Multitude or Evildoers Beware so don't get your hopes up, and no MP didn't sell out.

Now for the highlights of the album. There are some decent tracks on here, "Not Enough", "Get It Goin On." But this album is less than 30 MINUTES!!!!! That is ridiculous since Mustard Plug took three years to make this after Pray For Mojo. Another good part about this cd is that there is not a bad track, you can listen to it all the way through.

I guess this album isn't that bad, but why did they change? People who loved Evildoers Beware might like this, but nothing can top Big Daddy Multitude.

Ska music reivew It's good, but hard to get into
I heard about MP and decided to try out some of their stuff. I listened to some clips from "Evildoers Beware" and I wanted to buy that album. When I went to the record store this was all they had. So I decided to try it instead. I liked alot of the songs on here, but I just never really got into it. I have heard that the older albums are better so maybe I should have started somewhere else. Go buy a different MP album before buying this. Don't start here like I did!

Ska music review Yellow#5
Mustard Plug aren't trying to reinvent the wheel on "Yellow #5"; they just keep making better and better music. They are funny and talented and need some exposure. This is another solid outing that continues the path charted on previous albums. "Not Enough," the strongest track here, is a good representative statement with a catchy, pop-punk chorus underpinned by rousing horns. Meanwhile "Get It Goin' On" leans more to the frenetic punk side of things, the only tip of the hat to Ska being the arbitrary presence of horns. The anthemic "Just a Minute," with its euphoric chorus is another highlight, as is the more punked-up "Safe." This is there best Cd yet!
