  • Over The Rainbow
Songbird cherry-picks tracks from the three locally released albums of Eva Cassidy, whose hauntingly beautiful vocals went virtually unheard outside her native Washington, D.C., during her short 33 years with us. Lost to melanoma in 1996, Cassidy sang with an unaffected purity and an astonishing ability to make both classic and contemporary songs sound like they were written just for her. Sting's "Fields of Gold" finally lives up to its title through the alchemy of Cassidy's transcendent rendition, while other tracks on this anthology showcase her ease in the realms of pop (Christine McVie's "Songbird"), soul ("People Get Ready"), gospel ("Wade on the Water"), and traditional standards ("Autumn Leaves" and "Over the Rainbow"). Framed by understated jazz and pop arrangements, Cassidy's clear, soulful voice and exquisite phrasing make her that rarest of vocalists whose interpretations are a complement to any song. A fine introduction to a true talent. --Billy Grenier

Alternative Rock music review Great relaxing music!
Her voice is gorgeous, just like a songbird!!!! So sad that she is now singing with the angels, before more of her works could be published.

Alternative Rock music review I bought this CD because of Everwood and I'm glad I did...
I heard Fields of Gold on the season finale of Everwood and thought whoever was singing it had a beautiful voice. When I hear a song I like I usually just have to find out who sings it. I did a little research and found that it was Eva Cassidy. I tried to download the song from ITunes but couldn't find it. Soooo, my next stop was Amazon. I searched for Eva Cassidy, found the CD, and bought it. I really like the whole CD. Her music is very soothing to me. My favorite songs are Wade in the Water, Over the Rainbow, and Fields of Gold. I ordered Time After Time and just received it several days ago. I've listened to some of the songs, but not the entire CD just yet. Eva Cassidy has a beautiful voice.

Alternative Rock music review excellent
apparently, the good do die young....it's a shame she's gone, because eva was full of emotion, with great lungs and tune to boot.

Unplugged and set apart from his bandmates, Dave Matthews is transformed from a fusion rocker to something of a fusion folkie. Indeed, this two-disc, two-man concert recording (cut in Iowa in the winter of 1996 and shelved for nearly three years) posits the South African-born bandleader less as a Blues Traveler fellow traveler than a dexterous, jazz-inflected minstrel in the tradition of Tim and Jeff Buckley, Terry Callier, and Ellen McIlwaine. As with those considerably less-successful performers, multiplatinum Matthews is enticed to soar ever higher by his considerable vocal prowess. Ultimately, Matthews takes his tunes in dizzying directions because he can! All those exhibitions of elasticity have earned Matthews disdain in less-is-more circles. Here, however, more than ably complemented by frequent DMB guest and fellow Charlottesville, Virginia, denizen Tim Reynolds, Matthews virtually bursts through 23 tunes that leave his audience wanting more. They needn't worry: even his worst critics wouldn't accuse Matthews of being stingy when it comes to music. --Steven Stolder

Alternative Rock music reivew Acoustic and Chill
Live at Luther College is a great CD for any DMB fan. Tim Reynolds and Dave Matthews collaborate on this great acoustic live show. The show is very laid back and chill and less enthusiastic and upbeat than other live shows. If you're debating on a live CD or a studio CD, there is no question with the Dave Matthews Band. Studio CD's do not capture the spirit and originality of the band. The CD includes great renditions of both 'One Sweet World' and 'Jimi Thing.' Live at Luther College is a great example of DMB live.

Alternative Rock music review Simply the best!
The best, simply the best... You can't go wrong with this... Music, passion, love, laughter, honesty, a insanely talented guitar player, very emotional beautiful vocals and sweet sweet melodies, songs and lyrics performed flawlessly from the heart. Buy it right now!

Alternative Rock music review Not a big DMB fan, but this set is fantastic!
Having lived with two DMB fans, one of whom virtually worships the man and his band, I have been exposed to the vast majority of their tunes. I think they're talented, but between Dave's somewhat indecipherable vocals and the sometimes over-the-top instrumentation, I find that whatever message they're trying to convey often gets buried.

That being said, "Live at Luther College" is most definitely one (or two, if a two-disc set can't count as one) of the ten recordings I'd want with me if I were stranded on a desert island.

I'd give all but maybe one or two songs a 5-star rating. Even the "Christmas Song," which, subject-wise, isn't exactly my cup of tea, is just too perfectly executed to deny.

There are thousands of recordings that use electric guitar and of which I'm a huge fan, but if I had to choose, I prefer the purity of acoustic guitar. The use of acoustic guitars alone gives this set a huge edge.

And Tim Reynolds is a virtuoso--probably as technically gifted as many respected classical guitarist, but with an equally impeccable ability to reinvent each of Dave's songs so that they have every bit as much groove, humor, emotion, and force (and often more) as they did with his full band backing him up. Dave isn't half-bad either.

And while they take their guitars to the very limits of unplugged rock, Dave's voice is still able to shine through clearly, and I can actually understand what he's saying more often than not (I've actually memorized most of the album, although there are some areas where I still mumble incoherent phrases in conjunction with what seems to be coming out of Dave's mouth).

Virtually all of the power and emotion is generated by the musicians themselves, not by special effects or gadgets, and you can really feel what a memorable experience it must have been to attend that show.

There's a classic episode of The Little Rascals where one of the gang can't join everybody else on the ballfield because he has to stay home with his younger brother, who has the croup. "I can't come out and play," he whines. "I've got to stay home and grease Wheezer!" Nobody at Geffen Records knows whether this was the inspiration in naming Weezer, but it makes sense. Like many of their peers, the members of the Los Angeles quartet seem to have spent their formative years in front of the TV; when they were a little older, they were just as entranced by college rock. Finally, ala the Rascals, one of the gang said, "Hey, kids, let's put on a show!," and the result is Weezer's uplifting, unpretentious, and extremely endearing debut.

The self-titled Weezer is lean and mean at 10 short, punchy tunes, but nearly every one is powered by a larger-than-life chorus or a simple but effective lyric. "Undone-The Sweater Song" uses an unraveling sweater as a metaphor for a relationship on the rocks; "Buddy Holly" pays heartfelt tribute to the '50s rocker, and "In the Garage" paints a scene of suburban teens jamming while surrounded by posters of Kiss. Producer Ric Ocasek of Cars fame pushes the vocals and rhythm guitars, and this bare-bones approach may earn comparisons to fellow garage-pop band Green Day. But Weezer has more in common with the late, lamented Big Dipper, another group of slacker wiseguys that you just had to love. --Jim DeRogatis

Alternative Rock music review pop-rock perfection
i've been listening to this masterpiece since "buddy holly," "undone" and "say it ain't so" were popular on MTV! to this day, it remains simply one of the best albums i've ever heard. weezer had played these songs a million times before they recorded the blue album, but they pushed the songs to absolute perfection in the studio. the production on songs like "the world has turned and left me here" and "say it ain't so" is absolutely breathtaking. the guitar sounds rivers and brian cranked out of their marshall stacks is absolute rock fan BLISS.

there's many emotions on this album, but the main vibe is upbeat and sing-along. this DOES NOT mean it's a shallow album. there's a lot of depth here. "my name is jonas" is about people wasting their lives working for "the man." "no one else" is a love song of jealousy. "the world has turned" is a beautiful, heartbreaking love song." "buddy holly" is on the shallow side, but it's catchy so who cares? "only in dreams" remains perhaps the most devastating love song i've ever heard. some indie fans will put down the blue album and say pavement is so much better or whatever.. don't listen to them. music is for the people, and everyone i've ever known who heard the blue album has loved it. also check out pinkerton, for a very different vibe but 5-star rock music.

Alternative Rock music review Love Love Love it!
I love every song on this album, it is one of my favoriets. I have seen Weezer live a few times...and it was just amazing.
This is a great album, with songs about many different things.
A great cd for someone just exprimenting with alternative/rock music.

A cd you will never get tired of.

Alternative Rock music review Starting With a Blast
Weezer's "Blue Album" is definitely the best album this band has ever produced, as well as one of the best alternative albums produced in recent years. It's one of the best albums of the 90s, one of my personal all-time favorites. Weezer came out of nowhere and with this album, started with a blast and grabbed fans like no other.

I only started listening to Weezer a year or so ago. This was the first album I bought and was immediately hooked. From the first song, titled "My Name is Jonas," to the 8-minute finale of "Only In Dreams," this album just got me in the mood to see the band live. They were great by the way, but this isn't for the review.

Top notch songs like "Undone" truly capture what the band is about. The song has an unforgettable chorus that can jog your brain for hours and hours. It's simply one of the greatest songs on the album, and of the 90s. With lyrics like "If you want to destroy my sweater / hold this thread as I walk away," Weezer made an anthem for their fans.

Another notable song has to be "Say It Ain't So" -- it has all the keys to a rock song. It's slow with its acoustic guitar in the verses, it's repetitive, it has emotion and energy in the chorus. Going from the acoustic guitar to exploding into electric guitar and a truly amazing chorus, Weezer came out with another great song.

All in all, Weezer's first and finest album is right here. It's a must buy.

McKennitt's recordings always have the quality of a spiritual sojourn; her songs are those of a seeker, whether she's setting Yeats, Scripture, or her own words to her compositions. It's this that attracts people to her music, and The Book of Secrets is no exception, whether it's the lazy rhythms of "Marco Polo," the sober joy of "The Mummers' Dance," the poignancy of "Skellig" or "Dante's Prayer," or the drama of Alfred Noyes's "The Highwayman." "The Highwayman" is a particularly strong effort, especially in comparison to her earlier setting of "The Lady of Shalott"; McKennitt has become much more skilled at musical narrative. This is music that can be enjoyed on many levels, from McKennitt's growing skill as a composer to the deeper questions posed by her lyrics. --Genevieve Williams

Alternative Rock music review Loreena McKennitt - The Book of Secrets
Awesome! Her best compilations. Use constantly for meditation, drifting off to sleep, and love-making. The combination of Celtic, Mediteranean, and Arabic instruments, themes, and melodies is sensational! Have given copies to siblings, off-spring, and close friends as gifts. All comment on their satisfaction. A must have for personal music libraries!

Alternative Rock music review Loreena McKennitt- One of the best modern songstresses of our time
Loreena has a pure talent for weaving melody music and words together. Her song The Highwayman is absolutely astounding to be able to put the old poem into music melody and verse is quite amazing

Alternative Rock music review It leads you to a magical world
The first time I heard Loreena's music I was with my best friend at the University, ten years ago, trying to escape from the burdens of the world. He gave me a copy of "The Visit" and I loved every song. I didn't hear from Loreena again until February 2001, when I came into a music store and, by instinct, I bought a copy of "Book of secrets". This gorgeous piece of art transported me to a magical and enchanted place. It was like to be born again in some fantastic land lost between the memories of my childhood and the beginning of my adulthood as Loreena's crystal voice starts surrounding your soul in a soft and lovely atmosphere. "The Mummer's dance"-one of my favorite pieces-is strongly linked to the most important and clue moments of my life. Every time I feel in a crossroad I play this song, close my eyes and, immediately, everything comes back to its original place.

For all his tattoos and bulked-up frat-boy persona, singer Bradley Nowell had real soul, which made his fatal heroin overdose even more tragic. There's more to this Long Beach, California, trio's debut, released shortly after Nowell's death in 1996, than white suburban punks imitating Jamaican ska music. The band comes up with great songs, notably the catchy MTV hit "What I Got"; spooky dub-reggae undertones, produced by the Butthole Surfers' Paul Leary, to go with the snappy horns; and surprisingly progressive lyrics that attack sexism and other social ills, especially on "Wrong Way." Like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Fishbone, obvious forebears, Sublime become slightly tiresome after 17 songs, but the band is great in short doses. --Steve Knopper

Alternative Rock music reivew Oh, the cruel contradiction that fate saddles us with
How dooes one cope with music so life-affirming, yet twisted by the fact that Bradley never lived to see it released? Or his band literally own the world from the shadows the next year, with far less talented musicians aping the Sublime sound to commercial acclaim? A question I've wrestled with for nigh on ten years now. Sure darkness creeps in on "Same in the End" and "Burritos", nihilism on "April 29 1992". The light Brad radiated from his soul outshines every last bit of it. "Pawn Shop" is a painful reminder of the all-too-real cost of heroin addiction. Can't help but wonder where they might have gone next, with each succesive album being an evolution of the one before. Speculation's pointless. The legend of Sublime grows year by year, as does the reputation of this, their final album. Need a pick me up from that Bush Administration depression? Listen to "Caress Me Down" and harken back to better days. Can it be that it was all so simple?

Alternative Rock music review more like ten starts for the best music in the world
can never NEVER. get enough of this music. This music at its finest. Sublime started its own genre and nobody can duplicate. Everytrack is meaningful and amazing. If you really listen, you find more than just bad ass beats, ryhmes and instrumentals and fearless vocals. You will find music that is from the heart and speaks to people like me. I wish Brad was still around.

Alternative Rock music review Sublime's sublime is sublime
This albums is one of the best albums of all-time. When i first popped in the CD in my car i was blown away and it changed my life. I found myself never needing to press the "next track" button on my car stereo because each song was just as amazing as the other. From "Garden Grove" to "Santeria" to "Under My Voodoo," each song was different and could not be pinpointed to ant specific genre. Like Bradley said, people can be up all night trying to put a label on Sublime. Rather than trying to label them as reggae/hiphop/punk/rap/ska, people should just be listening to the music and being thankful that there once was a band that sounded this awesome.

No Name Face is an auspicious debut from a band seemingly made to rule the airwaves. The insinuating melodies that mark Lifehouse's radio-friendly sound are not unlike those of matchbox twenty or Live in their softer moments. From the first single, "Hanging by a Moment," to the emotive and uplifting "Quasimodo" and the wonderful "Trying" (think Crowded House at their lilting best), Lifehouse are self-possessed and focused. Young singer-songwriter Jason Wade (the son of two ministers) imbues Lifehouse's vibe with a spiritual quality that's never heavy-handed, delivering the goods with the authority of an experienced troubadour. No Name Face may be a first offering from a young band, but it looks to signal the beginning of an estimable career. --Katherine Turman

Alternative Rock music reivew Lifehouse...memories of 1999
I was first introduced to Lifehouse when I saw them opening for Matchbox 20 and Everclear. I was smitten, but I was 16, too. All my cd's were stolen a while ago, and as of late I'd been getting a hankering for some Lifehouse. Initially, the cd was refreshing to my ears, reliving old thoughts and memories through 'Hanging By a Moment' and 'Sick Cycle Carousel'. 'Everything' was one of the reasons I bought the cd. It's beautiful with little touches of a cello wafting throughout the song. Sadly, after listening to the cd, it began to feel a little dated in my current musical tastes. A lot of Lifehouse's sound gives me the feeling that you'd get from Christian Rock. They carry a powerful feeling, very positive, but with some darker undertones throughout their music. The reason I was really smitten with the band in the begining was because of their use of cellos or some pretty violins in some of their songs. They have the ability to make really pretty slow, soft songs, and enlightening, "perfect guy" type of love songs. These guys are perfect for any girl just ready to sway along to some cute guys professing their love for the ever impossible to find female in their lives. It's pretty music, but it gets boring after a while. Good for reliving the late ninties, and for some nice sing-along in the car music.

Alternative Rock music review This band is AWESOME....
In a day when a great CD yields 3 good songs, Lifehouse delivers 12 per CD. Some songs you can't stop liking when you hear them over and over and over and over. If you buy a Lifehouse CD, any Lifehouse CD, you will have a problem, and that will be that you can't turn them off. Lifehouse is AWESOME and every song is it's own masterpiece. There really aren't enough stars to score these guys. I'll give them a solid 5. These guys rock.

Alternative Rock music review simply amazing
Lifehouse will forever be remembered for their hit Hanging by a Moment, the first single off this CD. That is also why I got this CD in the first place. I can now officially say that I love Lifehouse! Their vocals are great, the guitars are nothing but superb and well, they're just plain close to perfect. If you like this CD, check out their new CD Lifehouse (which features another kickass song from them, You and Me) and their earlier CD, Stanley Climbfall. And just for fun, click the "yes" button to the proceeding question.

It's not that Garbage is doing anything particularly new. At times, singer Shirley Manson borrows Chrissie Hynde's phrasing, Patti Smith's rock beat poetry, and Brian Wilson's chorus from "Don't Worry Baby." But producer Butch Vig provides a modern sheen to Version 2.0 that makes it sound fresh and distinctly modern. Purists may blanch--the album is a hybrid of rock guitars, dance rhythms, and pop choruses--but songs such as "I Think I'm Paranoid" (a rip of Elastica) and "The Trick Is to Keep Breathing" (Depeche Mode, without the chill) sound great no matter what they're called. --Keith Moerer

Alternative Rock music reivew A very "Special" album.
I was one of those people who dismissed Garbage when they first came out because I was a big fan of Curve. I know, I was a stupid boy. "Version 2.0" is when I realized this is an amazing band. I'd be shocked if any fan of techno, pop, alternative, or girl-fronted-rock-bands didn't love this disc. In itself it's almost the best of Garbage. They all sound like singles. Other than the obvious 3-4 hits, I was most impressed by "Temptation Waits", "Medication", "The Trick Is To Keep Breathing", and "You Look So Fine". If you've ever thought about getting some Garbage, especially this album, do it. Don't be a stupid boy/girl.

Alternative Rock music review This album is not garbage...
This is the best album this band has ever put out...at least it's the most consistant. From the opening track 'Temptation Waits' to the closing words of 'You Look So Fine' the album fits nice blaring out of your stereo. Shirley Manson and Butch Vig string together some brilliant electronic/rock tracks that are sure to please long standing fans as well as those new to the world of Garbage. I purchased this album when it was first released, and even know it is one of those albums that is hard to surpass for it is one of the only albums that has NOT gathered dust on my shelf. Classic tracks like 'I Think I'm Paranoid' and 'Push It' show the eletric borderline brutal side of Garbage with pounding bass and brutal beats acompanied by Shirley's distinct voice. And with songs like 'Medication' and the beautiful 'The Trick Is To Keep Breathing' SHirley and the boys show a softer side to the band. Radio hit's 'Special' and 'When I Grow Up' boast that this album is, as the later states, 'Special' but it's two songs in particular that really raise the bar...the brutal 'Hammering in my Head' and the cover 'Sleep Together' give to extremes of the spectrum. 'Hammering...' gives us pounding beats and blistering guitars while 'Sleep Together' boasts a beautiful melody and shining vocals. Garbage is truly cream of the crop, and this album is their shining moment!

Alternative Rock music review "Floating out to Wonderland..."
Version 2.0 is my favorite album of all time. This is the first record i enjoyed every song from beginning to end. All the songs are so brilliant and genius. Shirley Manson is the best frontwoman that ever existed. God i love her voice, it so seductive and growls like an untamed tiger hunting for a simple kill. Butch Vig is a god! You look so fine, one of the best love songs of all time, the first time i heard it i was hooked when she leaps into the chorus, so gorgeous has great lyrics: "you look so fine i want to break your heart and give you mine." The song Medication is so raw with lyrics like: "Somebody get me out of here, i'm tearing out myself, nobody gives a damn about me or anybody else." I think i'm paranoid is so perfect i love this song, "I fall down just give you a thrill, prop me up with another pill..." Temptation Waits is so sexy and the guitars are layered beautifully: "You come on like a drug i just can't get enough..." Version 2.0 will be in your collection til the day you perish. It will be in mine. This album is sooooo good that i hooked my brother on this album as well, share with friends and family, it will get you talking, also check out Beautifulgarbage as well.

While Radiohead saw its stock rising in 1994, it wasn't until 1995's The Bends that it really became a blue chip band. And for good reason. The quintet honed its talent for bombastic Brit Rock, yet still preserved an edge of unpredictability. Even singles like the title track didn't give in to the kind of swooning guitar clichés usually embraced by commercial radio. If the CD proved anything, it was that Radiohead could find solid ground between pop experimentation and the tradition of born-in-the-bone, balls-out rock. --Nick Heil

Alternative Rock music review New To Radiohead? Start here.
Don't make the same mistake I did. The first Radiohead album I bought was Amnesiac. Don't get me wrong, Amnesiac is a tremendous album, but you have to work your way up to it. The best way to experiance Radiohead is to start here. Then try O.K. Computer, Kid A, etc. Radiohead is an excellent band that should appeal to a variety of listeners.

TOP SONGS: Fake Plastic Trees, Nice Dream, My Iron Lung, Black Star, Street Spirit (Fade Out)

Alternative Rock music review I wish it was the sixties,I wish I could be happy....
Even though this whole album is rich,I'd like to single out the over-whelming and life-affirming guitar solo near the end of the song "The Bends" including Thom and Jonny's build-up to it and closure after. As it levitates me and carries me along its forceful current I always have a spiritual experience. I play air-guitar,kick my feet, pump my fist, cry and smile at the thought of living my life to its fullest. When I listen to it,anything I dream of doing seems possible.

Alternative Rock music review Makes Me Wish I Knew Radiohead Sooner...
The first Radiohead album I listened to was OK Computer, one of the most brilliant records I've ever heard and the best from the Radiohead album catalogue. By now, I know that Radiohead is not a rock band that will live up to its expectations from nobody, not even their most loyal fans. Their latest material is experimental, relying more on electronic beats and crackly, glitchy sounds than on sweeping guitars. And that's okay. The Bends, just like OK Computer, is their most accessible and enjoyable albums. The music moves me, the lyrics are simple and yet so deep. There's not a single song that I do not like. I recommend this album, OK Computer, and Hail to the Thief for essential Radiohead listeners.

  • Hallelujah
  • Lover, You Should`ve Come Over

Resembling at times a soft-sung Robert Plant, Buckley was an intuitive vocalist capable of dizzying arabesques and choir-boy sweetness. He is joined here by a tight band for 10 tracks highlighting his stylistic range--Pearl Jam bluesy on "Eternal Life," impossibly serene on Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," art-school noisy on "So Real," Led Zep daring on "Mojo Pin." Unorthodox, this was the debut of '94. --Jeff Bateman

Alternative Rock music review Buy this album!
If you buy just one album in your entire life, and there are far too many phenomenal ones out there to narrow it down to only one, but one you should highly consider for that one album is that of Jeff Buckley's Grace. The album succeeds on so many levels one almost becomes dizzy listening to its greatness; whether through the outstanding taste for composition which Buckley possessed in his short life, the musicianship with which so few so-called greats of our time could only wish for, or the virtually seamless genre crossing, one simply cannot listen to this and find something not to like. Unless you're a Top 40 fan, of course, but then again you don't really count as a music fan anyway.

The thing which makes Grace such a wonderful piece of artwork is much more than the sum of the three things mentioned earlier, although those are certainly an irreplaceable part of the foundation. It is the thing which all of our favorite albums do to us again and again, even if we think we have gotten tired of it after awhile or simply forget about it due to new musical discoveries, yet it always takes us back to that one place or time in which you first heard it, and again enchants you with its wonders. It is the way Buckley croons on Lover, You Should've Come Over that makes us think about every love we've ever had. It's the way he writes a song like Eternal Life that makes us want to fly down the freeway at 80 mph and scream it at the top of our lungs. It is the way we are soothed onto a bed of notes and dreams of Buckley's voice in our heads when we hear Lilac Wine. For me it's the way my heart breaks in the blissful, melancholy way whenever I hear Hallelujah and want to weep or marvel at Corpus Christi Carol. It is all these things and so much more, on virtually every track, which is also a key ingredient in making a favorite album for me.

Structurally, the music is also interesting to listen to as Buckley begins many songs as a usually composed pop tune and then smoothly guides them in another direction so flawlessly we didn't even know the song part was switching, let alone changing any of the numerous genres Buckley was a master of, be it rock, gospel, folk, classical or anything else he probably could have played without a second doubt. The band required for a recording like Grace is inevitably part of the big picture, Buckley stating in interviews that they rehearsed for three weeks before the recording sessions, being the same three weeks in which they first started working together. Even some of the few remaining great rock bands of this day and age could toil at these songs for years before perfecting them.

All of the praise for Grace, unfortunately, is bittersweet. While it would have been one of the best debuts of all time, this was Jeff's only complete studio album before his untimely death, the only other releases of his own material available being a few live albums, some unreleased tunes, and the earliest stages of work for his next planned release, My Sweetheart The Drunk, which was in progress when his tragic death occurred. Although I am selfish and lament his loss because of the great music I will hear, that doesn't diminish the fact that music was his way of speaking to the world where he was coming from, and the loss of him both personally and to the music world is a tragedy which cannot be put into words. I've heard few albums of this caliber, in any genre. I doubt you will either, but let me know if you do, because musicians like this are few and far between.

Alternative Rock music review Emotional Soul and Rock Reminds Us of Tragic Loss
I first heard "Last Goodbye" listening to KCRW in Los Angeles the day after Buckley died in a drowning accident, as announced by the radio announcer, and immediately bought the CD. I was stunned by the beauty, the evenness of the album, and the originality. Most of all the voice pulled my heart strings. That was almost ten years ago. Since then, this album remains a beloved classic and deseredly so. If you're looking for a similar melancholy emotional rush, you might consider the music of Ronderlin, Magnet, Blue Boy, Midlake, Montgolfier Brothers, Jans Lekman, My Morning Jacket, and Pernice Brothers.
