Classic Rock music reivew Disappointed with these CD series...
There isn't one single song from the 1977 classic "The Rescuers" included in this collection, I don't see why Disney chose not to include any of those songs which are all gorgeous, when they did include unmemorable and weak songs instead, I've seen these CD's with songs that aren't half as good as "Tomorrow is Another Day," "The Journey," "Someone's Waiting for You" or "Rescue Aid Society."

Very disappointing, The Rescuers is a fine Disney classic and it should be included with all of the others.

Classic Rock music review Great CD!!!!
I have all 5 CD's and it is an awesome collection! All of my favorite songs are on the 5 CD's and every Disney fan like I am should have this collection!

Classic Rock music review 60 Years of Musical Magic
This wonderful disc from Disney includes some great musical memories from some of their most beloved movies.

Included here on this first volume are some great tracks including a selection from SUMMER MAGIC ("The Ugly Bug Ball" performed by Burl Ives), the title song from THE MONKEY'S UNCLE (performed with a youthful verve by Annette Funicello and the Beach Boys), "A Whale of a Tale" from 20, 000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (performed by Kirk Douglas) and three tracks from MARY POPPINS ("Chim Chim Cher-ee", "A Spoonful of Sugar" and "Jolly Holiday").

From the Disney animations, there are many selections, including "A Whole New World" from ALADDIN, "Circle of Life" from THE LION KING, "Poor Unfortunate Souls" and "Kiss the Girl" from THE LITTLE MERMAID, "Love is a Song" from BAMBI and "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from CINDERELLA.

If you love Disney music, you'll love this wonderful album!

great cd from the echoing green. as a depeche mode and iris fan, this was my first echoing green cd and i was impressed. what really surprised me were 2 tracks that could fit right in with an early nine inch nails cd. best tracks are "the story of our lives" and the middle eastern tinged "bittersweet".

Classic Rock music review What to say?

Classic Rock music reivew Something Great Gone Terribly Wrong
I LOVE the Reducers, I really do. And just about every necessary song you'd hope appears on this compilation. So what's the problem? Whoever mixed this CD did the Reducers a monumental injustice. The moment I put the CD in, I could tell that someone botched the job. The sound is muddy and the band's spirit doesn't shine through. I have tapes I recorded of this band off the radio on a crappy boom box that sound more vibrant! I have not heard the other Reducers CD's and any Reducers is better than none, but I believe I will be sticking with my vinyl LP's and hope that somehow this abomination is repaired. The band deserves it!

Classic Rock music review Let's Go!
This is it. Without the major label backing of the british bands of the era, and without the critical huzzah's of bands like the Shoes, the Scruffs, etc., these 4 guys from New London were simply one of the best rock and roll bands of the early eighties. Not really punk, more post-New Wave, they remind one of the great lost British bands that appeared on Stiff like Wreckless Eric and Tenpole Tudor (check the cover's album for those references.) What they were more than anything was one of the greatest bar bands of all time, that's where I saw them along with on my college campus. I saw them right when it seemed like they might break. They didn't which is where this comes in. At their worst, they're a fun guitar rock band from a time when that had been subsumed by synths, punk, post-punk whatever. At their best, especially on tunes like Better Homes and Gardens and the phenomenal Let's Go, they were sublime. Long live the Reducers.

Classic Rock music review They rock, pure and simple
Living in NYC, I got turned on to The Reducers in the mid-80s when WLIR used play the explosive "Let's Go." Screw Good Charlotte - "Let's Go" is a true anthem, right up there with "London Calling, Ghost Town, Radio Radio," and "What's So Funny `Bout Peace, Love and Understanding?" I recently convinced a friend to buy Redux; and when we put it on his stereo and cranked up the volume, he looked at me with widened eyes and said, "This rocks!" Thus has been the comment of anyone who has ever heard The Reducers. Indispensable for starting off mix tapes with a kick and a bang. And oh yeah, they were the first band to write an excellent pop-rock song called "Closing Time."

Classic Rock music review What a stage presence
LP truly is a ROCK STAR!! I just caught LP's show last night at the Viper Room in LA and have to say it was the best show I've seen all year!! I didn't have any cash to buy her albums there so I had to rush home and buy them both on Amazon. The band combines energy, excellent lyrics, awesome vocals, guitars, and drums into an incredible rock show. Don't miss this band LIVE!!!

Classic Rock music review Powerhouse voice
LP has a powerhouse voice that belies her look. I first discovered her as the singer of the hidden track "My Cinderella" on Cracker's Gentlemen's Blues album. I have seen her live with Cracker and solo. The songs on this album are superb. She can rock and she can sing ballads. Her voice is like something out of a jazz speakeasy in the twenties - raspy, hard and sweet all at once. Check out "Perfect" and "Coming Home" as evidence.

Classic Rock music review LP is a rock star
No CD is going to fully do justice to the quality of LP's voice. You've got to see her live--she's got an awesome stage presence and her vocal range and control is stunning--that girl is LOUD. That said, Heart-Shaped Scar is the next best thing. "Coming Home", "Shut You Out", and "Insane" are great songs--not like anything I've heard before. I'm a sucker for great vocalists and LP sings like some of the folks I've seen on Broadway. Thank God she's rock and roll, though--we need an injection of true talent in modern music with all the crap that's out there now. BUY THIS ALBUM--SEE THIS BAND LIVE--you will be floored.

Classic Rock music reivew I really, REALLY like these guys, BUT ...
As a Chicago native, the song "Lake Shore Drive" has a very, very special place in my heart, so I'm glad to have it in my collection at long last. It's difficult to put into words what magical summer memories the song evokes.

But ...

The sound quality is abysmal on at least one cut on this CD: "For Eddy" includes an intermittent hiss that sounds like it was recorded directly off an LP. I checked - you can't hear it on the song sample here at Amazon.

And the CD includes no liner notes of any kind. Surely *something* could have been written about this group's career.

For those reasons, and believe me, it pains me deeply to do so, I give this CD three stars.

Classic Rock music review long time fan
I had two copies of this album on LP growing up. One that my big sister stole (later recovered), and the replacement, which came with a plain white cover; story was that the warehouse containing all the originals burned down. Was delighted to find it on CD these many years later. However, the song Long Time Gone from the original was dropped, which bummed me out. New add ons are OK, but not in the same league as Long Time Gone.

Classic Rock music review Crusin' down LSD with the windows rolled down!
"Lake Shore Drive," (the song) brings back such fond memories of summers in Chicago that I have it permanently saved on my MP3 player! My Uncle was buddies with A, H and J while they were in school and so this group has a place in our family history. I grew up in Chicago and whenever I want to feel like I am at home, I listen to their songs.

  • A Little Italy Rag
  • Dancing The Night Away
Substitute grits for glitz, soul for sheen, and wry humor for mythic self-regard, and the Amazing Rhythm Aces could have been the Eagles. Though they didn't fly as high commercially, the Aces' blend of rock, country, down-home rhythm & blues, and even gospel continues to satisfy on this combo reissue of the band's first two mid-'70s albums. "Third Rate Romance" remains the Memphis band's signature song and major pop hit, while "The End Is Not in Sight (The Cowboy Tune)" anticipated the changes in commercial country a couple of decades down the road. Rhythm aside, the key to the band's appeal is frontman Russell Smith, whose songs and singing transcend musical boundaries with amazing grace. --Don McLeese

Classic Rock music review Amazing Amazing Rhythm Aces
Exceptional product quality hardware wise and an outstanding performance of the ACES! Amazon.Com is my music store of choice.

Classic Rock music review Superb debut and fine follow-up LP
This Memphis band broke the top-20 with their debut album's 1975 hit single "Third Rate Romance," which forever defined them through endless oldies anthologies and radio play. And as a calling card for a pop one-hit wonder it's actually surprisingly representative of the tuneful country-rock that was the band's stock-in-trade. Country fans gained a deeper helping of the band's hits, with "Amazing Grace (Use to Be Her Favorite Song)" and "The End is Not in Sight (The Cowboy Tune)" each charting, and the latter catching a Grammy.

Fleshed out beyond the hits, this 2-LPs-on-1-CD release demonstrates convincingly that the Aces were much more than a Southern-fried version of The Eagles. They treaded some similar ground, but the Aces were more deeply immersed in the music of their native Memphis, with blues, soul, funk and gospel flavors rounding out their country and rock base. The debut LP, "Stacked Deck," is one of the 1970s lost classics, featuring stellar original songwriting, a fine R&B cover of Charlie Rich's "Who Will the Next Fool Be?," finely tuned vocals and harmonies, strong instrumental picking, and an organic blend of the band's influences that is truly inspirational.

The band's second LP, 1976's "Too Stuffed to Jump," followed the debut's musical formula, which may make it slightly less original, but doesn't detract from the fine songs and performances. The band continued to rely on the diversity of their southern roots, from funky blues-rockers like "Typical American Boy," "I'll Be Gone" and "Fool for the Woman," to country tunes like "The End is Not in Sight (The Cowboy Tune)," "These Dreams of Losing You" and "Out of the Snow."

Collectors' Choice two-fer has no liner notes (or songwriting or production credits), and the original album art is reproduced microscopically small, but the 22-track/74-minute running time is generous, and the remastering to digital is crisp and clear. An essential shelfmate for Linda Ronstadt's Capitol albums and The Eagles early works.[2006 redtunictroll at hotmail dot com]

Classic Rock music review Oldie AND Goodie

Classic Rock music review The family tradition is strong here
Hank's has always shown the influence of his father while being distinct from it. The influence is most obvious in the many covers of his father's songs (albeit done in Junior's own style) and the many songs that are, in one way or other, about his father. On this album, the family influence is stronger than ever. There are covers of Kaw-liga and Move it on over, while there are two songs about his father - The blues man and If you don't like Hank Williams. His father also gets mentioned in Dinosaur.

All those tracks are great but the standout track here is the title track, a superb ballad about how some old habits can be broken more easily than others. Here I am again and Won't it be nice are other excellent ballads. Hank gets on his soapbox in The American way. Hank sings about the south (as he often does) in All in Alabama.

This is yet another classic album from Hank, mixing country, blues and rock in his own unique way.

Classic Rock music review Best Album
This album in my opinion is one of Hank's best. The song "Old Habits" is one of my all time fanorite Hank songs. "Dinosaur" is right next to it. You can't go wrong by buying it. The whole album is great it tells alot about Hank and how he thinks about things. This has to be the appitomy of hank's albums.

Classic Rock music review This is the real Hank Williams Jr in my opinion
It just shows how great he can sing country music when he leaves the rock guitar out. He's good both ways but great this way. I recommend everybody whos a fan of him or country music buy this. Also if you liked the movie Living Proof: The Hank Williams Jr Story and you loved the songs that played in the background then you'll really love it cause its got three songs from the movie on it. 1. Here I am Fallin' Again 2. The Blues Man 3. All in Alabama. All great songs Its simply a GREAT album.

Classic Rock music review Excellent bluesy rock with two slide players!
As one who has 40 ft of lps, a huge CD collection, over 40,000 digital songs, and has played guitar in many bands for 40 years, I think everyone who likes the bluesy rock sort of music will love these guys. I have all 3 of their CDs and like them all. My taste runs the gamut covering all American music from blues to zydeco and I'll simply say that Delta Moon are hot!! I'm not sure I could reasonably decide which of the 3 to buy...better get 'em all!

Classic Rock music review Fantastic!
I could start and finish my review with a single word: FANTASTIC! However maybe it is better to say something more about this abosutely marvellous blues CD. I never heard about this band in my life. I found them by chance surfing Amazon.com catalogue and I bought this CD because of the reviews published below. Really I didn't know what to expect when I put the CD in my car's CD player this morning. What a fantastic surprise! It has been a long time since a record has impressed me so much at the first listening. This is a traditional blues album played from start to finish with incendiary passion, great respect for the tradition and most of all with incredible mastery. The two guitarists' job on slide (electric and acoustic lap) is a real treat that will please even the more "difficult to please" blues lover, and Gina Leigh's singing is comparable to the great masters of the past. Best tunes: House of doll, Mansfiel road, the cover of the all time classic Shake 'em on down, and most of all the stunning original You can't make somebody love you. I liked it so much that the first think I've done, as soon as I came back home, it was to buy the other two albums available! Five stars +!!

Classic Rock music review Best New Blues Band in Years
I have watched this band for two years now and have seen them just become better and better. Tom's slide guitar and Gina's vocals are top notch.

If you want a great album whith new twists to the Blues get this album and be on the look out to see this band.

Classic Rock music reivew Music - Music
I have always enjoyed Buzzy Linhart's vinyl album entitled "Music" ... that was also the name of his group. The first four songs on this "best of" are from that album.
It was produced by the great Eddie Kramer who recorded and produced the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
It's too bad that it hasn't been released on CD ... but at least you get a taste of it on this CD compilation.

Classic Rock music review Such an overlooked singer
Buzzy Linhart is so wonderful with his quirky lyrics and his unusual but wonderful voice and I pray for the day when they re-release A Pussycat Can Go Far CD. But for now I am thrilled with this wonderful CD.

Classic Rock music review BMG UNLEASHES A MUSICAL GIANT.....BUZZY LINHART
When I first met Buzzy Linhart, he was hanging up posters for his upcomming Wavy Gravy gig in Berkeley California. I knew this guy was cool, so I went up and asked him : "Are you Ken Kesey?"He tells me: "I'm Buzzy Linhart, put out a couple of albums in the 60's and 70's, recorded with Hendrix," ...Buzzy then of course invited me to his gig, which was ferociously beautiful, sharp witted, cool jazzy acoustic funk with the REAL roots of Folk-Rock slammed in..This is one of the most powerful voices in the history of modern music...Buy this CD and get ready to live life with a great BUZZ

Classic Rock music reivew Where are The Rescuers?
Why are none of the beautiful songs from The Rescuers ever included? Someone's Waiting for You, Tomorrow is Another Day, The Journey or Rescue Aid Society? These songs are very pleasant and better songs than many of those included in the set? The film's never been privileged with a soundtrack, while the horrid '80s or '90s sequel did, I don't get it. What's wrong with The Rescuers?

Classic Rock music reivew ALMOST Perfect.....
I just got this 5 disc set, and I must say that overall I'm impressed. Disney has created a great collection of classic tunes, fit for both adults and children. I was, however, disppointed that this collection didn't include ALL of the songs from Disney animated films. For example, I loved the "Oliver and Company" soundtrack, but Disney seems to reguard that film as a flop, even though the film wasn't terrible, and the music in the film was fabulous. I was amazed that they included songs from lesser known and under-appreciated Disney films such as "Pete's Dragon" and "Robin Hood," yet didn't include songs from "Oliver and Company." I know it seems like I'm being picky, but if this is supposed to be the definitive collection of Disney music, they should have tried to include songs from ALL the Disney movies, including the ones that weren't as popular. Other than that slight disappointment, I thouroughly enjoy this collection of classic Disney favorites.

Classic Rock music reivew They lied...
Nice title eh? Well, the box says "60 years of Musical Magic." They lied, it's actually 65 years of musical magic. :-) There's a song from 1933 and the most recent is from 1998. It's a very nice compilation of Disney songs. I bought this to sign along with to my son. The classic Disney movies were great and I think my children should grow up with them. Even if they were watered down fairy tales. But I have the original Grimm's Fairy-Tales book to cover that aspect.

The only negative that kept this at 4 stars, was some of the newer music. I'll "Hakuna Matata" with the best of them, but "Hunchback of Notre-Dame" and "Mulan" were after my time. They also include songs from films I've never even heard of and found out they weren't bit hits to begin with. But while they could have traded a few songs, the big ones like "Heigh-Ho" and "Once Upon a Dream" are there, so it's a very good set. Like previously mentioned, even "Zip-a-dee-do-dah" is present and that film is nearly impossible to get a hold of.
