Classical music reivew Bland uninteresting music
I don't understand the rave reviews for this CD. The music is rather bland and insipid. I had just finished listening to the Beethoven late quartets before I previewed the Darling, so this CD simply paled in comparison. I suppose it would be okay as background music, but it is not a CD one would want to spend time listening to.

Classical music review d.d. always does it right
ive been listening to david darling since his early days on ecm, own all of his
things, but till now have been allergic to the 'new age' look of, say, his 'cello
blue' and that sort -and couldnt discern WHY hed 'break it up' that way- ecm to
new age- until i listened to the itemd i didnt have. the man can simply do no
wrong. i own pretty much everything (no joke) but invariably when people are
passing thru my apt, house, car, office and hear something from dd, they WANT
it- thats everyone from rockers to classicists.
be sure to check out the magnificent 'epigraphs'(ECM) with pianist ketil bjornstad.

Classical music review Cello Music To Heal The Soul...
This cd should be selling off the shelves at a rapid pace. This is actually a reissue that was previously on HEARTS OF SPACE label. Music that will touch your soul and change your way of listening immediately. The key tracks are: #2, #3, #4, #9. Be sure to spread the word... David Darling is an amazing artist and hope that more of his work becomes famous...

Classical music review BRAVO to the River City Duo
This an absolute superb recording. Mark Fisher and Mark Lawson are magnificient. Every track renders a gift for the ears. Smooth, uplifting, and thought provoking. This is worth getting one for yourself and one for every friend you believe has good taste. Enjoy!

Classical music review The perfect match
These two childhood friends from State Street in Mason City, IA grew up across the street from each other. Now twenty five years later they are the perfect match in the beautiful album. The CD solution for a soothing drive home.

    Classical music review Superb
This is a superbly done CD. Pianist and euphonium player work great together. Listen to the nuances in phrasing in the Bach. Pianist is every bit as superb as the euphonium soloist. Bravo!!!

Classical music review Classic is classic
Classic turns out catchy tunes, reminiscent of Hanson, Lisa Loeb, Elvis Costello, and even Paul Simon. With superior vocals and songwriting, Classic redefines good, old-fashioned rock and roll!

Classical music review Classic is right!!
If you're wondering who the next chart-topping band is going to be, look no further; these boys are it!! This CD grabs you right from the start with "She's Beautiful," and it never lets go. This band can hit you hard, rock you out, or smooth it up and lay down a soothing ballad to put you to sleep at night. You will have dreams like never before as these sweet melodies take you away. And not only do these boys have talent to spare, but they have the personality and looks to the makes the girls swoon. These guys are set. Look out world, here comes Classic!!

    Classical music review Unrelenting Pleasure
Wow. I'm still recovering from my first Classic experience. Right from the beginning they hit you with 'She's Beautiful', and the fun never stops. I've had my disc on repeat for a full nine and a half months now, and I don't plan on ever turning it off. It is my inspiration and my mecca. Thank you Lerman brothers and that italian stallion who is Pirog. I love you guys. And P.S., you boys have the best eyes i've ever seen.

Classical music review Exotica at it's best
Very nice album by Mychael Danna. My favorite is Kama Sutra.

Classical music review Don't get ripped off !!! (note of caution)
A great soundtrack, but don't expect "Everybody Knows" to
be on the soundtrack. For that reason, this CD is both
great and it is a ripoff, since we all expected "Everybody
Knows" to be on the soundtrack.

Classical music review This is a passionate soundtrack
This is music to make love by. The pace of this music is that of the rhythm of passion. It is mystical, beautiful, and very erotic. There is a gentle pulse to this soundtrack that rises slowly, crests, then falls. Sounds familier? Listen to the soundtrack all the way through with your eyes closed the first time you listen to it. You will find this to be incredibly sexual music. Though there are some words they don't distract and the delightful blend of exotic instrumentation (including human voices used in ways rarely heard outside of Indian Classical music) will inspire even the most timid. Whatever your kink this music will certainly add something to your scene. This soundtrack also makes great listining all alone. Any listeners that know of similar music please feel free to email me.

Classical music review A flashy, fun Bach recital
Fazil Say's Bach recital is amazing for it's variety and breadth: it begins with the lucid, intimate beauty of the 6th French Suite (in which Say's playing is unusually sensual, with the recording balance just warm enough to match his playing style) and climbs to the mountainous Liszt and Busoni transcriptions. The Liszt is wonderfully colorful and dramatic, an underrated work that is smashing in Say's tense and fiery reading. Say ends the disc with the the famous C major Prelude and Fugue from Book I of the Well-Tempered Clavier, a move that could seem pat but works very well; the tender arpeggios of the Prelude dispel the epic anguish of the Bach/Busoni "Chaconne" and close the disc in innocent wonder.

I look forward to another Bach recital from this delightful artist; perhaps next time he can push the Bach-playing envelope with recomposition/improvisation? Or a transcription of his own?

Classical music review Fazil Say is a great pianist all Turks can be truly proud of
Fazil Say's rendition of Bach and Mozart is truly captivating. I get so much pleasure out of listening to all his albums. I would recommend his albums to anybody who really cherishes beautiful music..I am eagerly waiting to get my hands on his new release - the Rite of Spring.

Classical music review Fazil Say's Bach is superb.
His performances of the French Suite and the Italian Concerto are a revelation--crisp, forceful, even gutsy, all the inner voices coming out strongly and clearly. I like to compare and contrast Say's performance of the Chaconne with those of Jorge Bolet and Awadagin Pratt; it's interesting to see which harmonies each pianist emphasizes, but it's obvious all three are in the same league!

This CD is good. My parents listen to it. I think it's interesting to listen to. It's sort of soothing too. It is simple music, so it's nice to listen to. I recommend this CD for people who like classical without the piano, because this CD is guitar.

Classical music review Pleasure For Your Musical Soul
I listened to this CD three times straight to make sure I heard every outstanding note. The arrangements were superb, and the talent....
This CD is a must for anyone who loves guitar and arrangments that will have you humming in your sleep!!

Classical music review Just amazing playing!
This cd is great, the repertoire isn't played very much, and these four gentlemen play it so well! My personal favorite track on the disc is the "loose" cannon! Just a fun arrangement of one of the most popular classical songs of all time, and it's virtuosic in every way! Another great CD. Enjoy!

Classical music review The best Cronos-era Comp!
This is the best Cronos-era compilation, track listing-wise. Sure, "In League With Satan" is remastered, while this is a mid-price release, but this has the ORIGINAL versions of "Black Metal", "Welcome To Hell", and several other well-known songs. On "In League..", "Black Metal" is a VERY abbreviated 40 second live version, and sounds much newer. Other songs are later live versions as well on that one. That one is supposedly the "official" comp. but this is best. Get this, and "The Collection", a mid-price comp. of the Demolition Man years, and you will not be disappointed!

    Classical music review Venom rocks!
this is a really good band. Cronos has such a great voice. The band can really play. if you want to listen to venom i would suggest getting this cd or one of there older ones first (especially if you have never heard them) such as: welcome to hell, black metal, at war with satan, and in league with satan. well in case you didnt know this band's music is black metal so that means it has to do with satanic lyrics. if that doesnt offend you then go for it. Venom is raw and fast. so yeah i would really recommend venom.

Classical music review A GOOD GREATEST HITS BY THIS BAND.
This cd is chalk full of venoms classic hits from when they first started. The production is bad but the songs are great and have lots of passion from this legendary band.I would recommend this cd to any fan of this band who doesnt already own all their albums.METAL RULES!!!

This most serious and studious of German sopranos has a grand time--with no hint of condescension--in this collection of Viennese operetta arias, treating them with a meticulous musicality they rarely receive. In fact, lots of this music written by now-obscure names such as Heuberger, Zeller and Millocker isn't heard at all. But these isolated arias are marvelously lyrical and ingratiating with some deliciously comic counterpoint. One highpoint is the Nuns Chorus from Casanova, in which Elisabeth Schwarzkopf's voice soars above her fellow nuns, longing for her lover to rescue her from the cloister. It's some of the most unbuttoned singing of her career. --David Patrick Stearns

Classical music review The Charm Of Schwarzkopf: Vienna Opera
Elisabeth Schwarzkopf was the leading German lyric soprano of her time directly after World War II- the 50's and 60's. Her Marschallin from Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier is unbeaten and the definative best interpretation. This recording features her singing comfortably in the language she knew best, German, in arias from Vienna light operas. There is so much class and elegance, combined with charming warmth and beauty to the singing voice of Schwarzkopff. Another treasure to hear and a great complimentary addition to this album is Schwarzkopf singing German Lieder. Her diction was perfect, her melodic lines bubbly with sincere human warmth. In this album, I think you'll like the opening aria "Im Chambre Separee" from Der Opernball. There is a uniquely French sound to the aria and to Schwarzkopf's rendition, that has sophistication and European aestheticism written all over it. The other arias are beautiful to listen to as well, including the arias from Der Zarewitsch, Grafin Dubarry, Graf Von Luxemburg, Boccacio and Giuditta.

Naturally, since this is taken from the original Long Playing album record, it sounds very old fashioned and dated. I did'nt hear any scratches or disruptions, so for the most part it's highly enjoyable and lovingly remastered for a cd. Schwarzkopf classic voice does seem to fit more suitably on the LP of a phonograph in a stylish salon in Paris or Vienna. I can imagine when she was singing in person and recording these albums, people were goo-ga ga over her. But even if you don't own a record player and you are up to date with the latest sound system technology, this will bring you back to the days when people crowded around parlors, either to their radios or phonographs and had conversations and drank champagne in genuine taste and good cheer. This will definately want to make you drink some fine champagne.

    Classical music review Viennese Pastry
For those with a musical sweet tooth, this is the sweetest, richest collection of bon-bons imaginable. Schwarzkopf's singing is without parallel, and this is in my opinion the finest operetta recital disc available.

    Classical music review beautiful
This is one of my favorites. Schwartzkopf voice is a stunning and it clear that she has perfected her art. I was so pleased when I bought it and played it for my friends. My favorites are the nun's chorus and Laura's song and Sie nicht bos. You will enjoy this delightful recording.

Classical music reivew An American in Paris
Andre Previn conducted this Symphony as they made beautiful music. It was a delight to watch one of my favorites, Gene Kelly, dance to this 'American in Paris,' in a movie long ago. Previn also recorded this and Rhapsody in Blue in which he played the piano while conducting the London Symphony Orchestra in an older recording (his hairstyle is the '70s), which also included the same Gershwin Concerto in F in which he played piano as he did on this recording.

His 'Like Young' got him on the radio, but this kind of music was by far his best achievement. He was a grand conductor, but I never could see what he saw in Mia Farrow (after Frank Sinatra and before Woody Allen). I'm glad he went to Pittsburgh, one of my favorites places , to lose someone.

Classical music review Album will put a little hop in your steps
This album will put you in the mood for a little dancing and take you away from the everyday world for a bit. If you are willing to let lose and take yourself away for awhile then this is the album for you

Classical music review No posturing...this is 'pure' Gershwin
I first bought a cassette of this album back in 1985, and have loved it ever since. The reason is simple...unlike Bernstein's ponderous posturing and Fiedler's 'friendly' sound, this sounds like NYC. THAT'S GERSHWIN!

It is dynamic, exciting and robust conducting that the Pittsburgh responded to with 100% brio. When I listen to Rhapsody, I don't have time to criticize Gershwin's lack of 'structure'...because I am swimming in his 'American style' of music that didn't need to cowtow to the dictates of European composers or classicists.
I defy you to listen to the Adagio of "Concerto in F," and not feel yourself at 3 in the morning, walking alone down a silent NYC street, and wondering how you got that way. This is what Gershwin wanted to do...make you feel the things he felt and saw in his life. Previn gets out of the way, and lets Gershwin do the talking.
