I find this recording to be dashingly original,musically intruiging and aesthetically and intelligently interpreted.Hats off Mr. Backhaus, hats off.

I have been a subramaniam fan for a while now. He and L. Shankar are my 2 favorite violin players...oh V.J.Jogg also.

Anyway, if your looking for very relaxing, yet exciting classical indian music then this CD is for you.

Those who believe that only English-sung rock is worthy of mention should pay particular attention to this group. Once described as the "Beatles from Argentina", Seru Giran, even having been disbanded almost 20 years ago, still sounds fresh nowadays. The band's backbone - Charly Garcia and Pedro Aznar - studied for nearly a decade in conservatories and does know how to produce breathtaking and straightforward melodies and harmonies. Powerhouse Oscar Moro in drums along with singer/guitarist David LeBon complete this one-of-a-kind band with lots of energy and feeling. If you still spend time listening to old Yes, Supertramp and Genesis records and seek for something really cool, try Seru Giran!

Backhaus was perhaps most at home in Brahms of all composers. He was in the great tradition, and it came naturally. He was also a great pianist. In Boult he had a kindred spirit. As a young man Boult played two-piano duets with Fanny Davies, Clara Schumann's pupil. He was 9 when Brahms died, but by then had attended London concerts of the composer's works. Later, as conductor of the BBCSO and the LPO, he won a major reputation as a Brahms conductor. For Sir Simon Rattle, Boult was one of the two great Brahms conductors (the other was Giulini). This CD, then, gives us something we won't hear nowadays. It's a powerful performance, a real performance, in pretty good sound for the time. Noone would listen to this for audiophile pleasure, but as a study disc that takes us close to a 19th. century tradition - 'echt Brahms' - it's priceless.
