The CD so good it made me collapse on the floor and orgasm six times
This album whupped me goodWhen I popped this CD into my boombox, my pants fell down and I weeped like I did when "Charles In Charge" was cancelled. The pure beauty of the wafting music was almost too much for me to bear. It did indeed prove too much to bear for my next door neighbor, who moved out immediately and jumped in the ocean.
Now that I'm alone in this trailer, I can walk around with this erection and enjoy David Hulkerflink to my heart's content. I prance about to "Crazy For You." I do jetées to "Dü." I even do the limbo dance to "Do the Limbo Dance!" Meanwhile, they have turned off my gas and water, since I have let those payments lapse, big time.
But what the hey, life is too short to pay bills. I can just sit here in the dark, listening and masturbaiting to David's masterwork. Excelsior!
The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.

* + * + * + * + * = Hasselhoff HeavenStep off, you twithead critics! Back down, you music connoisseurs! David Hasselhoff defies your attempts to label him!
Sure, you may write reviews of how he "stinks." You may dismiss him as a "hack," a "terrible, terrible, terrible attempt at a singer," or even "the most serious setback in the development of music in human history." But you know what? All that doesn't make a hill of beans difference, because I LOVE him.
That's because I have no taste. I cannot comprehend how awful his singing truly is. Unlike many others, I cannot make the comparison between his singing and the sounds a ostrich makes while violating a bucket of weasels. I have no frame of reference when it comes to "musical pitch" or "sense of shrill, unbearable caterwauling." But that's just me.
If I had to pick my favorite out of this batch of hass, it would probably be "Hot Shot City" because it is particulary good.

Just as his wife, Faith Hill, gets slicker and more hermetically sealed on each album, Tim McGraw reaches back on this record to a time-honored, if now rare, country music tradition--recording with his road band. Like Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard before him, McGraw craved the artistic freedom and rawer sound he enjoyed with his road boys, and he was correct in thinking the Dancehall Doctors would leave their own honest stamp on the music, as well as a '70s rock & roll feel. Retreating to a studio in upstate New York, they recorded 15 keepers. Only one, a cover of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer," lands with a thud, as McGraw tries to duplicate John's vocal nuances and never takes control of the song. But elsewhere, he and the band are surprisingly emotional, soulful, and vulnerable. Together, they turn "Red Ragtop," a song about teen lovers who abort their child, into a universal lyric about choices and regrets, and fashion the two songs about revisiting the people and places that shape who you are ("Sing Me Home," "Home") into something profound. The album sags in spots, and McGraw and his coproducers misstep in adding faux R&B vocal washes here and there. But this is a good, solid effort to make music and not just the radio charts. --Alanna Nash

This is earlier TimI bought this one mainly because it had "Red Ragtop" and "She's my kind of rain". I hadn't heard of some of the other songs but once I played them, I'm hooked. The whole CD is fabulous. Another great one. How can it not be? It's Tim!
A Sefl-Respecting TexanI took offense with one of the reviewers that stated that no self-respecting Texan would buy this CD. Well, let me tell you that this Texan bought it and loves it. Tim never said he wrote his songs. Most artists do not write their own music, but they do put their stamp on a song. This album is one of his best, and when other artists are still looking for so-called patriotic songs to sing, Tim will be singing REAL songs.
Tim's newest CD, "Fireflies" is a gut-wrenching collection of songs, but you have to LISTEN to the songs and feel them. Tim's grief was definitely in this album.
Keep it up Tim. Keep it real....

Tim's GOLDEN AlbumIf you want to get into Tim McGraw this is the place to start. Now the great thing about this album is, that it may have one or two 'skipable' tracks as you may call them, they aren't so bad that you have to skip them. You can listen and maybe even get into them after a while. That's why this CD is so prime is that you can listen to it all the way through and enjoy it. So the CD starts off with 'Comfort Me' and then follows into 'Tickin' Away' which is great and 'Home' which is even beter. 'Red ragtop' is one AMAZING song about the choices we make and the con. they cause, you know how sometimes you think that your actually making things better when in the end you end up f@#$ing it all up...yeah that's what this song is about. It all comes down to the day she stopped loving me. 'That's Why God Made Mexico' is one of those 'not-so-awsome' tracks, but again, it's listenable. 'Watch The Wind Blow By' is amazing, just cool, calm and collected...you can just sit on the beach with a corona and be content listening to this song. 'Illegal' is my least favorite song, but I must admit that when he sang it in concert i was bopping my head a bit...see what I mean...it's listenable. 'Sleep Tonight' is the best song on the album. It's just a great love song about not wanting the time with her to end. Amazing job. 'I Know How to Love You Well' is decent as is 'Sing Me Home' but no love song compares to 'She's My Kind of Rain' which was actually one of my wedding songs. I love this song, it describes the feeling you get with the one you adore. 'Who Are They' resembles 'Back When' in a way, not my favorite choice but I can listen to it without cringing. 'Real Good Man' is my anthem. I had my bridal party dance to this with me...it was kinda funny. 'All We Ever Find' is a sweet song about finding true love in the arms of your wife. In closing I must say that 'Tiny Dancer' is almost BETTER than the origonal...that said, BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!

- Give It Up Or Let Me Go
The major-label debut from this Texas trio proves their instrumental abilities, blending more traditional twang with slow melodic blues, foot-tapping rockabilly, and bluegrass-inspired pop harmonies. From the opener, "I Can Love You Better," the Chicks let their love of music and genuine joy shine through while the energy on this album reminds one of Carlene Carter. Solid musicianship, topnotch vocal performances, and infectious pop hooks make this a stellar project. --Paula Ghergia

Nice listenI am a new fan of the Chicks. I mainly listen to blues, rock, jazz and jam progressive music, so keep it brief and to the point.
The Chicks are a nice listen. Thier sound is welcoming and the ladies play it like they mean it. For a listener like myself who is more versed in other genre's of music, give the Wide Open Spaces a chance. It's a real disc.

Potential on display - a pretty solid early effort for the ChicksIn my mind, I look at the four major-label releases by the Chicks as four parts of one body of work: this release is the innocent, somewhat naïve, playful and good-natured, introductory effort; the independent spirit is there and so is a touch of impishness. Although "Wide Open Spaces" has much going for it, for me, it does not quite hold up to the subsequent three releases. First, my gripes: It sometimes lacks the trademark Chicks sound and personality, as though they are covering someone else's music and attempting to mimic the original artist; the most noticeable examples of this are "You Were Mine" and "Loving Arms." Unlike the two most recent efforts, and even "Fly" to some extent, the songs don't sound autobiographical or personal to them, as though they own them. (The most notable exception to this is the title track) While it is technically quite proficient and well produced, it is not as mature or as refined as "Home" or "Taking the Long Way."
Now, the positive: For the most part, "Wide Open Spaces" is certainly more fun and playful than "Taking the Long Way" or even "Home;" if fun is what one wants from music, this would be a better option than those two particular releases. Highlights for me are the title track, "There's Your Trouble," "Let `Er Rip" and the last song, "Give It Up or Let Me Go," which is a rocker. Of the four major label releases, this is my least favorite personally. That is not say it is bad or not worthy of being an addition to your Chicks library. The progression in maturity, subject matter and emotional levels are clearly evident in distinct intervals from this release to the most recent. The Chicks definitely have a unique sound and deserve all the accolades they have received over the past eight years. There is a reason people have fallen in love with their music. On "Wide Open Spaces" we can definitely hear hints of the greatness to come and we also get the feel there were `six strong hands on the steering wheel' even at that point.

Artist: Keith Urban
Tracks:
- Somebody Like You
- Who Wouldn't Want to Be Me
- Whenever I Run
- What About Me
- You'll Think of Me
- Jeans On
- You Look Good in My Shirt
- You're Not Alone Tonight
- You Won
- Song For Dad
- Rainin' On Sunday
- You're Not My God
Album 2 for the Aussie transplant and former member of the Ranch kicks harder than his debut and fulfills Keith Urban's goal of capturing the elusive "band feel." The solid arrangements are particularly well tailored to Darryl Brown's ruptured romance ballad "You Think of Me" and the swampy "You Look Good in My Shirt." Urban catches fire lyrically on the moving "Song for Dad" and "What About Me," a cautionary view of selflessness he cowrote with Rodney Crowell. That, unfortunately, is as good as it gets. While the Ranch enjoyed a cult following, Urban, who should bring an idiosyncratic side to his music, is clearly out to play Nashville's game. Proof? A preponderance of bland material aimed at pleasing radio consultants and programmers. Consider his original "You're Not Alone Tonight," replete with harmonies used on countless country hits of recent past. True, a banjo occasionally surfaces throughout the album. Nonetheless, reviving David Dunda's 1976 Top 20 pop hit "Jeans On" reveals much about Urban's true musical roots. --Rich Kienzle

Sweet SoundsKeith Urban has a smooth flowing voice; the beat of his songs is always postive and uplifting. You will feel terrific listening to this CD. It is full of love and hope and joy. I was lifting to the clouds by his music.
One of my favoritesThis has got to be one of my favorite albums ever. The different paces set by each song, the different moods they all have. You have some romantic ones "Somebody Like You", "Rainin' On Sunday", "You're Not Alone Tonight", some fun ones "You Look Good in My Shirt", "Jeans On", and some really heartfelt, personal song "You're Not My God", "Song For Dad". It is a great cd, with 7 or 8 songs written and co-written by Keith. And don't miss the hidden track at the end of the cd. It's called "The One Cord Song" You have to hear it. It's awesome
My First Keith Urban CD....definitely not the last!As far as "country" music goes, I liked this cd very much. I purchased it because I had heard the song, "You'll Think of Me," and the line about "take your cat and leave my sweater" just jumped right out and got my attention. It was an endearing epitaph to all of the pets who are also part of broken relationships. I really liked hearing the banjo that you can hear throughout several of the songs on the album. Very nice. This cd comes highly recommended.

If he wasn't on your list before, you better add Steven Curtis Chapman to your contemporary Christian music (CCM) superstar group. Speechless, Chapman's 11th album in his 12-year career, reaches new heights and testifies to a songwriting brilliance that is almost unmatched. This album will undoubtedly increase Chapman's score of 29 No. 1 hit CCM singles. For the first time, the ebullient singer/songwriter has made a record with his touring band (instead of with studio musicians) and the tightness and familiarity shows. The opening "Dive" (Chumbawamba fans will love the chorus here), "Speechless," and "Fingerprints of God" are its strongest moments; then there's the deeply moving and emotional tribute "With Hope," an ode Chapman wrote for close friends who have lost children and are struggling to find a reason to live. Top-line producer Brown Bannister enables Chapman's beautiful release, evidenced by the final track, "Be Still and Know," which features a lengthy symphonic introduction. At this level, you can't expect dramatic departures from what has worked so well, but what you get here is the work of an artist who is perfecting his muse. Buy this today! --Michael Lyttle

The Journey is well worth itEasily his best album. I love the instrumental piece titled "The Journey." Two other great Christian releases are Delirious's "World Service" and D. C. Talk's "Jesus Freak." Lifehouse's self titled third album is also quite excellent.
still the bestThis album is awesome. I love the song Dive. This song kinda reminds me one of the songs that I used to sing in my church youth group. He always sings how a true christian (or should I say disciple) should feel. Especially in the song The Change. I saw him in concert in California. I was sixteen years old. The feeling that I had while I was at that concert was the best. I own all his albums. He never disapoints me. He is the main reason I listen to Christain music.
Take a leap of faith... Sink or swim I'm driving inI love this cd. It has great praise and worship music. Speechless has both great lyrics and rhythm. I love all of the songs on Speechless. Steven Curtis Chapman has such a soulful voice. I play them during daycare hours. My daycare toddlers love the music too.

Probably the Best CD I Own!I didn't buy this CD until the summer of 2005, and boy do I regret not buying it sooner. I remember when Jimmy Wayne came out with his first single "Stay Gone" in 2003 and I liked his singing abilities and thought it was a great song, but I stereotyped Jimmy as being a young pretty boy trying to be a big star. I hate fake people who are in the public eye trying to be something that is not themselves and I just had no interest in purchasing an album from someone like that. Then later on in the year I heard his single "I Love You This Much" and was blown away by the song, but I had no idea that it was Jimmy Wayne singing it. I made a note to myself to try and find the album whenever I found out who the singer was, but I guess I didn't get around to it. Then in summer 2005 I heard the song on the radio and just happened to catch the name of the singer and a few days later I bought the CD. I loved every song on this album. Having fallen in love with this album, I decided to go onto the internet and watch some of his music videos (Which are also spectacular) and I came across his biography. I was in tears after I read it and realized that the songs he wrote or co-wrote were "real" songs that he wrote from "real" experiences. I was also amazed to find out that he was in his early thirties. When I first saw him I thought he looked like a seventeen year old pretty boy (Sorry about that Jimmy). I have developed very high respect for Jimmy Wayne as an artist and a person. He appears to be real, grounded, and truthful through his music. That is a very hard trait to find in music artists today. I can't wait until his next album.
Country music with a soulWhen I first bought this album, I listened to it all the way through. I was blown away by the sincerity and honest songwriting as well as by Jimmy Wayne's unique and soulful way of singing. This album is a must-have that showcases a very talented and compelling singer-songwriter who has something important to say.
Nashville's best male VocalistUpon buying this CD, be sure to pop it into your computer, and watch the (approx.) 20 minute interview, as Jimmy Wayne will enlighten you, to a more indepth understanding of his music. And how many of his songs came about, for his self-titled Freshman album.
Mixed with the newer sounds of Country music, along with some Southern blues, each song has it's own flavor. And while "Stay Gone" still proves to be Jimmy's strongest (radio) single, there are other songs, that could have been strong contenders, for single releases as well.
"After You" a song about remembering a loved-one from the past, "Tresspassin'" which reminds us of our younger days, and what it was like to 'dance in the moonlight' could have easily made the air-waves, as well as "The Rabbit" which tell's the story, of a troubled family, dealing with domestic violence, resonates a powerful message, thru it's strong and up-beat tempo!
On October 17, 2005, Jimmy Wayne along with co-writer, Chris Lindsey, won an ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Puplishers) Award, for "You Are" which is included, on this album.
There's no doubt in my mind, that Jimmy Wayne is Nashville's most polished vocalist to date. And I look forward to hearing more great music, from this artist.

Few bands of the 1960s retained as much a sense of the roots of rock and roll as did Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their music is rife with country, rockabilly, and R&B influences, a combination that produced several hit singles--most of which are present on this collection. These include "I Heard It through the Grapevine," "Lodi," "Up Around the B ," "Who'll Stop the Rain," and of course "Bad Moon Rising." This is an excellent greatest-hits collection, and a perfect introduction to the music of a band that has been enduringly influential. --Genevieve Williams

Wow! A great voice and looks to boot!I had no idea what an awesome artist he is! I love the whole cd, but I have to admit...I bought it mainly because I love the song Walk a Little Straighter. I had to know who sang it...so I got onto Amazon and when I started listening to some of the other songs on this cd - I had to have it. He's a very talented artist! I'm sooo glad I decided to check him out!

Artist: Nicolette Larson
Tracks:
- Welcome To The World
- Oh Bear
- Starlight, Starbright
- Irish Lullaby
- Barefoot Floors
- Appalachian Lullaby
- I Bid You Goodnight
- Moon And Me
- Rock-A-Bye (Mallory's Song)
- Rocking My Baby To Sleep
- The Moment I Saw You
Listeners familiar with Nicolette Larson's early work as a vocalist with Commander Cody will know right away that this project comes from her smoother-edged solo career. She scored big-easy rock hits, after all, a cynic might add, so it makes sense that her first release of the 1990s (nine years separate this recording and its predecessor, Say When) would be softened by keyboard washes and muted rhythms. But there's a simple reason for this CD's quietude, its floating gentleness: Larson writes in the liner notes that she wrote the songs as she sat by her daughter Elsie May's hospital bed as her daughter recovered. The music had to be all gentle and nonintrusive, and that's how it comes across. This is a great disc to spin as you rock the newborn. Larson's voice peeks out exceptionally as she covers an unreleased Neil Young tune ("Barefoot Floors") and presents a tender reading of "I Bid You Goodnight." Persistently fine layers of accordion and bowed cello give the keyboard-laden environments surprising warmth. --Andrew Bartlett

Great for yourself or as a gift! This CD is my only experience with Nicolette Larson's music. We have been using it for over 3 years as part of the nightly bedtime routine for our two girls and I can honestly say that we love it. We have many other CD's and this is the only lullaby CD that we really use. The music is great for both adults and children. After all this time, we still are not tired of the music. The CD insert tells a little about each song. This CD also makes a great gift for parents.
WonderfulI bought this tape ten years ago when my daughter was born. We listened to it so much that I wore out three tapes. Now ten years later I listened to the short music clips and the songs brought tears to my eyes as it used to. My daughter and I remembered every word. Very beautiful and soothing music that memories are made from.
wonderful baby giftI got this CD as a gift when my daughter was born. She is now almost 7 years old and I am buying a new copy since we wore the old one out! She still listens to it every night. I love to hear my daughter sing all the songs. I highly recommend this for baby gifts!

Artist: Joni Mitchell
Tracks:
- All I Want
- My Old Man
- Little Green
- Carey
- Blue
- California
- This Flight Tonight
- River
- A Case Of You
- The Last Time I Saw Richard
Joni Mitchell would go on from this '71 recording to make more popular, more ambitious, and more challenging albums, but she's never made a better one. Working with minimal accompaniment (Stephen Stills and James Taylor are two of the four sidemen), the Canadian thrush summoned an involving song cycle of romance found and lost. Though Blue is an uncommonly intimate representation, it's also astonishingly open and gracious. Songs such as "All I Want," "Carey," "California," and "A Case of You" work equally well as poetry and pop music. --Steve Stolder

Joni Mitchell: BlueJoni Mitchell's folk album, boring acoustic guitar picking backing moody songs, usually besing considered a classic but actually a soundtrack for faint-hearted. Her voice is ok but lacks intensity. If you are looking for mellow stuff it's not a bad choice but don't expect too much here.
Bye-bye, Joni, I'll stick with my Nyro, who is a truly incredible singer and songwriter.

Quintessential MitchellSay you dont like introspection, then why are you staring at your navel thinking it would make a great story? Your life would be so clean if you could see it on the silver screen, "James Dean, James Dean". Ms. Mitchell is an innovative and accomplished guitar player and in her day possessed a wonderful litling voice that could carry you through your day-to-day into something unique, gliding effortlessly through octave changes, high to low. A two pack a day habit has made its mark on her voice but the legacy is there. This record is a landmark in that legacy, although earlier albums possess more of the range. After For the Roses I stopped listening for the most part. It was hard to let go of that earlier voice and the incorporated guitar. She remains unsurpassed in the genre, an icon to all who came after her, a reniassance woman in more than song. Love you Joni.
more than music1971: I was 20 and in college. This album shaped me and most of my friends. Whether fans of Grateful Dead, Iron Butterfly, Black Sabbath, King Crimson, Bob Dylan, Doors, Uriah Heep, Jethro Tull - this album found its way into their stacks. Those who haven't made it their own, are the less for it.
And He answered "Salvation can only be found in the One, the only One who is higher than me. I created the universe, but this higher power created me."
Trembling I asked, "But... who?"
God smiled fondly, "Your race call Him 'The Hoff'".
And so I ran back home, purchased the CD from Amazon and revelled in holy bliss. The rest, as they say, is Hasselhoff.
The track 'Hot Shot City' is so particularly good it hurts.
