No too much to add, and some disagreements on song choices but when i heard " I'll fall in love again" on the radio way back in high school, I just looked at the radio and stared..... Sammy Hagar to me is what Bruce Springstein is to his fans or Led Zepplin to a Zep fan. This guy touched my soul and hit a nerve in me that has made me a Hagar fan forever. Forget Van Halen, this album has a vibe that truly shows how much talent and energy Sammy Hagar really has and what a great vocalist and guitarist he really is...truly under rated. The "Can't get loose" track is almost my favorite and is not just an OK song. The solo is fantastic and to me says the old cliche of a girl guy relationship that anyone can relate to.....a masterpiece album and still needs to be recognized. My favorite Hagar album for sure. Must have bought this album ten times so far!!

You say that love has got you down, well that's bullsXXt! If love has got you down then love can pick you right back up! There's something decidedly pathological about EVH, those increasingly deconstructed solos eh, but Sammy solo is a sure shot of recalcitrant optimism. I'll get back up somehow and with a little luck, I'm bound to win! Solid. No wonder he's been my roadmap, role model, high school hero! I'm from St. Louis! And I'll fall in love again! No rollover, no rebate, no frequent flier miles, baby. There's only one way to rock! Got love, got passion! I'm on it, I'm in it, long shot, long haul. The world is still revolving. Try another channel, reboot yer life. Right now, standing at the crossroads, halfway there! I'll be fXXXing up, proudly, 4ever. Beauty dumb, yeh, RED MEANS GO!

Ok, I'll be the one NOT to give this album 5 stars. Don't get me wrong, it is a great album. I just have to think an album is five steps above awesomely great to give it five stars. This is a fun album to listen to. Sammy's solo stuff, i think, is a lot better than what he did with Van Halen. And this is the person who has every album with "Van Halen" listed as the band on it. This is a good romp of an album. Enjoy.

If you're going to get into Dream theater, stay well away from their newest album and dissapointment "Systematic Chaos". Buy this album, it rocks. It IS short, but it comes nothing short (pun intended) of being fantastic. We get the Theater's greatest song of all time "A Change of Seasons". Follow that up with some classic rock covers and you have one of the best albums ever!!!!!! I even like the cover of "In The Flesh?" by Pink Floyd!

Count me as a new Dream Theater fan! This is my first review of an album of this band... a couple of year ago this thing was unveliebable.

"Boring" was the word I used to describe DT music... How wrong was my judgment! A workmate owned all the discography and lend me some albums to hear. At first it was difficult to understand all the tempo changes, weird arrangements, the progressive cheese, and the voice of LaBrie (I'm a death metal guy) I didn't hear the albums in order so I hear'em all in a ramdom way... at the end I doscovered a band full of super talented musicians, with great skills in compsition and a corny-less sense of melody. "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence", "Awake", and "A change of seasons" has become new favorites on my album collection.

This EP is a true demostration of instrumental virtuosity. best think in the album is the covers treatment. They kept the feel of the original songs with a nice DT flavor on it.

If you, are reticent to give this band a chance... grab a copy of this CD and convince yourself.

Kick-A$$ Song!

Can't say much more that hasn't been said already.

This album is worth it just for the title track alone, as it's all I listen to. The other cover songs are okay, but Change of Seasons (all 26 minutes of it) really shows off the band's talents. And though many versions of this song have been released (live variations), this version is still my favorite!

This is where we get our first taste of Derek Sharidian thumping his fingers on the keys, and a great job he did too!

not dreamy to me

I just don't get Dream Theater. This is not very good songwriting if you ask me. Compared to any progressive rock band from the 70's, these guys can't compete with ANY of them. Putting Dream Theater in the same category as Yes, Genesis, Rush, or heck, even Kansas and Uriah Heep, is pretty laughable.

Occasionally some guitar tricks will catch my attention, but the vocal melodies leave me scratching my head and asking "What's so great about this?" I *really* want to know if people who are fans of Dream Theater ever seriously listened to artists like King Crimson, Yes, and early Genesis. Because THOSE are genius bands capable of memorable songwriting skills.

Track one on this album, which is 20 minutes long, is pretty boring. Some nice guitar tricks aside, and everything else is rather ordinary, and features a lead singer who can't sing a melody (or doesn't want to sing a melody, whatever).

It's not really a chore sitting through an epic Dream Theater track, because at least the band is trying to write good music, and the band members probably mean well. Just make sure you check out 70's progressive rock before deciding whether this is deserving of classic music or not.

If you are into progressive metal at all ... or, dare I say if you are into metal/rock music at all, then you owe yourself to at least once hear the title track from this song.

Don't just 'listen' to it. Put on some headphones. Get the lyrics down in front of you. Read the lyrics when the vocals are sung, and close your eyes in between.

Hopefully you'll agree that it's one of the greatest tracks ever -- a mirror of a passage through a man's life, and through the change of seasons that come in everyone's life.

A masterpiece of sound and emotion.

Vince Neil's embarrassingly, uh, "lacking" album cover shot is indicative of the naive and raw 1982 debut of the now-famous Motley Crue.

There are highlights and some amateurish low-lights on this album. I own the original vinyl release and have not listened to any remasters or mixes on CD.

This album sounds like a quality basement recording of a band who've written some songs on the early 80's LA metal scene, with potential.

The songs are very consistent, all are of similar quality and aren't nearly as dark or sinister in nature as their next release, "Shout At The Devil," (when they hit it big on MTV and the charts).

Motley Crue are a result of post-punk LA metal where image, attitude, stage presence and the ability to write good, catchy songs were the key to success, mastering your instrument and writing deep lyrics were not required.

The sound of TFFL is a bit more bubble gum and stripped down than anything else in their long career, making it a novelty and more of an indulgence if you grew up listening to early Motley Crue.

If I had to pick favorites it would be "Piece Of Your Action, "Starry Eyes," the title track, and "Merry Go Round."

It's a bit silly and funny at times, not purposely, but again it should be something you know if you're a fan of the Crue in any sense. Personally I quit listening to them, outside of what Iwas bombarded with daily on the radio, after "Theater Of Pain." So, take my words with a grain of salt.

If you are a Zep fan and you like the reworked songs, then this is a must have. This new, updated release is great. Page has gone back and remastered the songs, fixed those 'problem' spots to make the recording the best it can possibly be.

I loved the first album. This one not so much. I'd like it better if not for the terrible lyrics. Give a 8 year old a crayon and tell them to write about their feelings, that's about as deep as these songs get.
"It takes a village to raise a child. It takes an army to march a mile. It takes true love to stand the test of time. And it takes you babe to make me smile." ... right. Thanks for the insight.

I am 57 years old so I grew up with all the best music since hard rock was born. I never was a fan of Motley Crue until I saw this live performance. I have been to hundreds of concerts in my life, even worked as a roadie for some of the early arena rock bands, (Elton John, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Rush, Micheal Jackson) but this blew even me away. It was recorded in late '05, so I saw them live for the 1st time in '06 and was glad I did. And it was all because of this DVD. Look up "Live Rock Show" in the dictionary and you'll find a picture of this DVD.

PUMP: The Definitive Aerosmith Masterpiece of the 1980's!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Reviewer ID:
Review Date: 2009-02-14
By the late 1980s, rock and roll was all about putting on a cutting-edge, exciting display of powerful guitar, drum, bass and vocals. By 1989, the third time back in the studio of the original lineup of Aerosmith (Steven Tyler- Vocals Keyboards and Harmonica, Joe Perry- Guitar, Brad Whitford- Guitar, Tom Hamilton- Bass, and Joey Kramer- Drums) proved to be the true charm for Aerosmith, and they cranked out a real rocker headed for a hall of fame.

PUMP is the second peak of the band's career (after their commercial plunge in the early 1980's due to declining record sales and inner group turmoil) It builds upon their catchy music that brought new fans who enjoyed 1987's Permanent Vacation, and ties the classy new co-writing team of Desmond Child and Jim Vallance who helped out on several tracks on PUMP to Perry and Tyler's hard-cutting edge and sleazy, slick lyrics that earned Aerosmith immense popularity on their 1970's albums.

Most of the tracks here are so well constructed that at a first glance, the casual listener won't really skip any tracks on the first go. There have been several radio singles to have come from this album, the slick "Love in an Elevator", the catchy "Janie's Got a Gun" (Nominated for a Grammy), the rocker "The Other Side", and my personal favorite, the closing ballad, "What It Takes".

"Young Lust" opens as a hard hitting fast-paced rocker that will pretty much define the superiority of the record on its own. My favorite part is at the conclusion where Kramer goes on a 30-Second drumming spree that leads into the secondary rocker "F.I.N.E.". The Fun doesn't end there. If you're not at least grinning by now, then this isn't your record. "Monkey On My Back" is a bouncy number that feels ahead of its time. (It also has been featured in several car commercials). "My Girl", and "Don't Get Mad, Get Even" are both excellent tracks. "Voodoo Medicine Man" happens to be one of the most unique and interesting tracks on the CD but will definetly grow on any Aerosmith listener.

Another interesting thing to note is that there are often bookmark songs and skits on this CD that separate songs, for added touches. These are definetly unique to this specific CD. The most impressive of these cuts is "Dulcimer Stomp" which plays immediately before "The Other Side" on Track 6.

I would recommend PUMP as a CD for just about anybody. I have not found many CDs to equal its integrity or to match the impression it has left on me. If there are any fans of Late 1980's hard rock (G'N'R Fans would certainly enjoy this CD) or even hair fans (should they still exist), or if you come from the 90's and would like to know what a truly amazing 80's rock record is, look no further. I have yet to find another album that can rock like this. Period.

I had heard Aerosmith for years - back when I was in high school (I'm 45 now), and this CD made me an Aerosmith fan. All of the songs are equally worth listening to, but I would have to say the best songs in my opinion on this CDare by far "Monkey On My Back," "Hoodoo/Medicine Man," with some very good instrumental mixed in ("The Otherside"). This CD (and "Permanent Vacation") has shown that Aerosmith is a very versatile rock group, which is no wonder why they have lasted this long!! If you are an Aerosmith fan, you will not be disappointed!!

Just how this album always makes me feel... I'm a youngster at 28 as far as most Aerosmith fans go, but I remember listening to this on tape with my Dad when I was 10 years old and I still get that "feeling". And a few years later when "Get a Grip" came out it was almost no different. By far the BEST Rock and Roll band America has ever produced... I listen to EVERYTHING, from Death Metal to Country, and AEROSMITH still hits the spot. Amazing band... Pun intended.

Admittley, I'm not an Aerosmith fan (though I'm not a fan of any band besides 311). I like their hits and really haven't gotten the urge to crack open even their seventies albums such as Rocks and Toys in the Attic (though I might in the future). As a matter of fact, most of their stuff hasn't really done much to impress me, as a matter of fact, this is my first Aerosmith album, and one where I gave a good listen to.

I must say, from what I've heard, this rocks and is more energetic and more rocking than anything from the 70's (Back In The Saddle, on a side note, is weaksauce). For one, just check out those drums! The drumming is quite powerful compared to anything else they did, just awesome, pumping, funky, rock and roll drumming! It reminds me of the punch that made John Bonham a legendary drummer. And Steven Tyler is more sleazy and more wild than he was in the 70's, his voice has definitely changed. There is a wide variety of music styles, ballads, rockers, bluesy songs, and hoedowns! I do enjoy the bits such as the Water Song. There is quite a bit in the variety department, and the album just flows better because of that. Here's an overview of the 10 songs
1.Young Lust-A glorious rock and roll song. It doesn't get any better than this!
2.F.I.N.E.-See Above
3.Love in an Elevator-See Above
4.Monkey On My Back-backed by a deep, rocking groove, Steven Tyler pumps it up and sings about getting rid of a drug addiction. Catchy, classic Aerosmith. Complete with some Whoo-hoo's that put michael jackson to shame.
5.Janie's Got A Gun-An almost great song with a good intro, but one thing that makes me mad is how they changed "He raped a little bitty baby" to "He jacked a little bitty baby". That just makes me mad, because the subject matter is serious, and why water something like it down for commerical purposes?
6.Take Me To the Other Side-Good horns go into a good, but not great poppy rock and roll song. It's one of my least favorites, but it gets the job done and sounds great, with good lyrics.
7.My Girl-One of my favorites, with a funky groove so irrestible. Hate if it was taken off.
8.Don't Get Mad, Get Even-A somewhat uninteresting chorus, but the verses are deep fried country, heck yeah!
9.Hoodoo-Voodoo Medicine Man-I like the bit at the beginning, but it turns into the only poor song on the album.
10.What It Takes-A ballad with any of the awful hair metal syndromes. Great jam at the end, more country.

Well, one thing I do know, Aerosmith wouldn't create something like this after release, instead getting the help of their producers and other people not in the band to make music a lot more (some helped on this, but it's mostly Aerosmith material). Too bad, though Just Push Play is an awesome song. They wouldn't release an album that's consistent near all the way.

9/10

Steve Vai's playing here isn't his best in my personal opinion. It's spread out with all of his work. However, this album is definitely his hardest rocking and most technical at the same time. The album definitely goes into several different realms of emotions. He also shows his patriotism with the opening track and has someone recite the pledge of allegiance on another track. "For the Love of God" is considered his big moment, when in my personal opinion, it's a very beautiful track, but he has done other stuff that has been just as good, if not better than that one. "The Audience is Listening" follows that one, contrasting beauty with comedy. Before "For the Love of God" is "Ballerina 12/24," which is a very beautiful track. There's a lot of talking on the album, but it really is an instrumental album.

great cd, early vai

steve vai knows how to use a guitar and can do some pretty fancy things with one... but listening to the album i couldn't help but think to myself 'if only he could channel that awesomeness into a great song'. don't get me wrong, i enjoy this album and think it's great stuff, but it's more a showcase of what he can do on a guitar and not so much an attempt at amazing song writing. you could say that the album lacks soul. so while i will enjoy it when i listen to it, i have to be in the mood for it because it's not a song i'm listening to, it's technique.

something that kind of bugged me a bit in this album was the talking aspects of the songs. like, the most prominent example, in the song the audience is listening, the supposed premise is that an elementary school aged vai is going to play a composition for his class and his teacher is glowing with praise, but as he starts to play she says it's too loud and wild and bad mouths it... throughout the whole song. trying a bit too hard to capture that something else.

i think the deal with this guy is that he was a student of joe satriani, or they had some sort of relationship like that... and i'm sorry to say but he has a ways to go in comparison.

A few great songs - but most are pointless wanking

"For the Love of God" is a nice piece of music. But most of this album is rubbish. Sorry, it's true. Generic rhythm tracks overlaid with endless, childish "dweedly dweedly dweedly". It's great musicianship, and there are some good ideas here which might have gone towards making better songs, but overall it's terrible music. Just because you *can* play it doesn't mean you should. As another reviewer wrote, this is why shred is dead. If you like this sort of thing, check out John Petrucci's solo album instead... it is light years ahead of this in compositional maturity.
