  • Goodnight - Linda Ronstadt
Equating Martha Stewart with hip is enough to give any parent pause. Are "good things" on the order of ribbon-festooned lampshades what cool has come to? Yes and no. Sleepytime may not crash through the cool barrier entirely--its liner notes leap right over the music, choosing, instead to instruct how to frame hand-knit booties--but it comes admirably close. Sending preciousness scampering to the opposite side of the street on this 14-track disc are the artists: Keb' Mo', Lucinda Williams, Billy Bragg, and Alison Krauss represent, in more hushed tones than usual, what makes modern music worth listening to. The Barenaked Ladies loosen the tongues from their cheeks for "Close to You," Linda Ronstadt works out the bedtime kinks on a cover of Lennon and McCartney's "Goodnight," and Bobby McFerrin lulls listeners along unintelligibly on "Common Threads." Songs by Tuck and Patti, Jenny Bruce, and Nickel Creek swoop in softly, grab us by the mushy parental core, and encircle us with an intoxicating calm. With Sleepytime Martha Stewart proves, in a typically tasteful package streaked with uncharacteristic cool, that she hasn't lost the scent of success. --Tammy La Gorce

Kid Rock music reivew Great CD for Day Care
I work in a day care--infant room actually (the Peek-a-Boos!) and this is a great CD. Our babies fall asleep to it & we all (the teachers) enjoy listening to it as it loops twice or three times during nape time (12pm-2pm).

Kid Rock music review This is a special CD...
Baby Mine alone makes this CD worth it!!! It really is a unique and special collection of music. I've used songs in movies, they are great for road trips, or just to listen around the house. You won't regret the $10 it costs to have songs that will bring back so many wonderful memories!

Kid Rock music review Best Baby C.D. EVER. No kidding!
I have bought this c.d. THREE TIMES because I either wear it down, or lose it. I have to re-buy it because it is just LOVELY. Every song is a treat. As a parent I adore even more than my son. This is my favorite baby c.d. of all time...and it is one of my personal favorites! You will not regret buying this c.d. It is really wonderful.

Kid Rock music review One of the greatest bands ever!
I love punk music, and when I first heard Kid Dynamite, I instantly became a fan, too bad they made very little music. But maybe that's what made them a legend. Check out None More Black and Lifetime for some bands that the members of Kid Dynamite have been part of.

Kid Rock music review Philly Punk Hardcore at its best
There are no words to describe Kid Dynamite except for amazing. Jay's vocals are some of the best I have ever heard. Great guitar lines, fitting bass riffs, good drumlines and vocals that can't be beaten by anyone. Its too bad they only lasted for a few years. They're stage presence was amazing along with their music. One of the best bands ever to hit the punk industry and they are influences are still going through bands today. if you like kid dynamite you should definitely check out Jay's new band None More Black.

Kid Rock music review kick ass
this is one of the best melodic hardcore cd's that was ever released there were many sad people when this band broke up but we were relieved when we found out about none more black and paint it black the two new bands that rose from the ashes of kid dynamite. Everything from these guys rules check them out.

Kid Rock music reivew Who's your daddy, Annie?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Kid follower from 1981. I'm not giving 5 stars based solely on the choice of pieces on this compilation. His albums were very story driven, as if he were writing musicals. Taken out of context, most of these songs hold well. I wish the songs were placed in chronological order. Like I said, Kid Creole's albums were stories and the stories were linked like a grand epic that involved paternity issues, gigaloism, cannibalism, corrupt law enforcement! I think it woulda painted a better picture if told in order. If you can find the original albums, grab 'em. This greatest hits will suffice until T.P.T.B. make a boxed set! P.S.: where the Hell is "My Male Curiosity" from the movie, "Against All Odds"????

Kid Rock music review An often overlooked gem of a collection
This is the music you may have heard, but didn't know who wrote. These catchy island music/pop music hybrids are wonderfully crafted and hilariously irreverent. I cannot recommend this album enough. Just buy it. I have yet to meet someone who isn't charmed by these lost '80s pop gems.

I only wish more of Kid Creole an the Coconutz albums were available on CD.

Kid Rock music review The Good Old Days of August
The sound quality alone is enough to buy this CD, not to mention 14 classic Kid Creole and the Coconuts songs. It's missing a few of my favorites, but compared to other CD's and most of the vinyl, it is worth the buy. And you can give it to people who don't know him and they'll love it. Last time I saw him at Central Park, I wanted a refund. Not like the great times at the Ritz and there obviously for the few bucks. But if you love August despite August, this is one of the better Best of albums. The best will be the one I'm going to compile with my CD burner! But buy this and you'll have a great time. You might even be inspired to write your first Amazon review!

Kid Rock music reivew all seriousness aside
If your tired of music of late taking itself way too seriously, you should definately own this disc. I think the lyrics have a playful/childish tone yet insightful and philosophical at the same time. "My climb through time to define this design, just takes time and wastes time, its over my head" " The waitress has fangs, in my dream , its so strange, cause the waitress is Jesus, its over my head" - Over my Head - I feel the message of this song is to get busy living and stop trying to guess the meaning of so many riddles. Other lyrics point to the way I felt growing up, but didnt know how to describe. Another plus for me is that I like to own music that nobody I know, has heard about. I wouldnt be surprised if I own thew only copy in town.

Kid Rock music review Hilarious and Witty
I found this CD one day in a music store, and picked it up at random - actually, I saw the song title "Slightly Bitchy Philosopher Dream Chick Meets the Insecure Martian Prophet", and had to head straight to the listening station. I bought the CD right away, and never regretted it.

While the lyrics are inarguably adolescent, they're still brilliantly funny. The music behind them can only be described as really fun - Protein is the polar opposite of every self-involved, egotistical, ultra-serious Top 40 band around.

All in all, a great CD.

Kid Rock music review Smart, funny lyrics
This is one of the best and funniest CDs I have heard, which is saying alot, coming from a collection including everything from Wierd Al to Presidents of the United States of America, to Marcy Playground. This is a great CD, a must have, and I am waiting for something like it to come along. Protein, make another!

Kid Rock music review Best emo out there
This CD is a must have for music with substance! It has raw guitar and bass sounds to it which may even seem a bit of a turn off at first, but if you listen to the entire composition and give it a few listens, it may become easier to appreciate the life these songs are made out of. This CD is one of those where the music stands out as something unique, yet it's arranged so well. Some hard rock songs, a few moderate rock songs, and a few slow rock songs with a keyboard ballad thrown in the works.

The songs may be very relatable, as they refer to the usual topics of relationships, drugs, and death, and also other subject matter such as forgiveness, greed, and desire are explored.

What makes this CD special is not just music or what the songs are about, but the way the lyrics are spoken. More frank than one might expect, and to the point.

There is not a single listed track on this CD which doesn't deserve a listen, and I do not say that for too many artists or CDs.

    Kid Rock music review Whoa
This cd has so much to offer. Val's voice comes as soothing yet disturbing at times. The lyrics really reach out the listener and I just get lost in the guitar riffs every time I hear their songs. This cd is highly recommended to all emo listeners out there.

Kid Rock music review the best thing ever
i love val and have seen him in concert. this cd is not only as good as seeing him live but will make you want to be his number one fan!

Kid Rock music review so so pretty...
This album is incredible. It evokes intense feelings of hopelessness and loss...but oddly gives you comfort as well. I love the vocals, lyrics, everything...Highly recommended if you like Jeff Buckley, Ours, or Magwai. This is chill music at its finest!
    : )

Kid Rock music review troublesome, hungry, sleepy
Kid Dakota rocks!! And with such seeming ease! The vocals on this guy cut like a sonic ice blade (it almost sounds impossible, but, yes, it's true! - am I being sarcastic here? no!). To agree with a Mr. Brice who has written above, I, too, implore you to purchase and/or listen to this album. Even if he doesn't 'make it big' you should still feel a little good to yourself for doing so.

    Kid Rock music review Groundbreaker
Kid Dakota's "So Pretty" is groundbreaking music. There's a sense of adventure in the songs, a fearlessness to try new things, with such keen instincts that everything works like a charm.

The CD was originally issued as an EP which won awards in Minnesota. Three new songs with Zak Sully of Low were added to flesh out a full fledged release.

There are definitely some reference points to Low, especially on the closer, The Overcoat, a song based on the short story by the Russian writer, Gogol. Like Low and most Police records, Kid Dakota is deft at using space and silence in his music. Many songs end with the listener having been transported to a zenlike state, scarcely aware that the musis has stopped.

Still, this is a rock record. There are drum cracks like a kick to the gut, and electric guitar sounds so inventive after all these years that you might wonder where Darren Jackson, the principal behind Kid Dakota, comes from.

Inventive sounds and subtle colours are found throughout the recordings. For instance, a closely miked rapping of a metal ice cube tray serves as the galvanizing announcement of the chorus in So Pretty. Crossin' Fingers used a high end keyboard sound like something found in early eighties recording by Peter Gabriel or Dalbello. Throughout, invention is at a premium.

Songs like Crossin' Fingers begin with a woozy guitar solo to show a man who has lost his balance with suspicions that his girlfriend isn't the one man type. The music conveys a sense of paranoia matched by the chilling words - "There ain't no secrets here/ I read your diaries/ I know he's more than a friend.

Weaving through all of the change of paces, the slow, the fast, the sparse and the thick, the soft and the loud, is a supreme sense of melody. Kid Dakota has a versatile voice and is nothing less than a terrific singer. On Crossin' Fingers again, the words, "I'm an worthy/ Student of philosophy", are sung as melodiously as if it were a moon in june couplet.

Drugs figure prominently in the songs on this collection. In "So Pretty", a seminal drug song about three young heroin addicts sharing an apartment he sings, "Nicky, oh, Nicky/So young and so pretty/ You're dad doesn't know what you are/ Instead of a habit/ You should have a hobby/ Like barbies or bubble gum cards". Yet it's a lot more complex than a drugs are good/bad song. He sings of being in run down room, of not having the energy or ambition to read books anymore, of focussing on his next hit in the chrous - "It's dull and it's bent/ And I can't read the numbers/ And yet it's my friend."

In Smokestack we see the drug addict bargain - "If you promise to stay / I promise to quit". In The Overcoat the singer is in rehab facility, yet instead of singing hossanahs to sobriety the song focuses on spirit stifling boredom - one of the reasons the drugs are attractive. Again, it's a song with shadings.

What's rare here is how well formed the songs are, as well executed as Pink Floyd's best (check out The Bathroom and it's successful attempt to convey a drug trip for example). The words and music are mirrow reflections of each other, a perfect symbiosis.

Kid Dakota has arrived on the scene. This is one of the three best CDs I bought this year. Talents like this are exceptionally rare. To paraphrase something written by his producer, if you're looking you will find it in Kid Dakota.

Kid Rock music review Another addition to my D.W.A.C. Collection +++
Howdy, I am probably the biggest Kid Rock fan ever and I have like every version of D.W.A.C. ever made. I just received this Aussie import from CDNOW (which is a great place to shop for music and videos lol.) It is great. It has Krack Rocks on it which features Uncle Kracker (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, and Follow Me) which is a great song. I'd give it 4/5 stars. It may cost a bit more then your basic every day D.W.A.C. but if you want a better version I definately recomend it.+++ Peace Out, eazyeze

When the song was first released she wanted me to call the radio station to have them play it, now that she has her own C.D. I let her listen to it whenever she asks me! Keep up the great work.

The 1996 follow-up CD to For Our Children packs less romp and more hush. Although the stellar lineup includes Celine Dion, Seal, Faith Hill, Natalie Cole, Cher, Luther Vandross, and others, For Our Children, Too is really a lullaby album and its predecessor is a party record. There are more ballads, more R&B singers, and more arrangements mired in overproduction. That said, if you want a gentler collection of songs, this might be your first choice. Seal turns in a poignant rendition of "Puff the Magic Dragon," while Natalie Cole's "Both Sides Now" shows how universal that old Joni Mitchell classic really is. James Taylor and Carly Simon's memorable hit "Mockingbird" is also featured, along with Cher doing a predictable interpretation of "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from Cinderella. Celine gives "Brahm's Lullaby" her trademark Dion treatment and Luther Vandross turns the protest anthem "If I Had a Hammer" into a moving meditation on peace and equality. Did someone say this music might be too sophisticated for kids? Still, it's for a great cause. --Martin Keller

Kid Rock music review Perfect CD for all my children.
I bought this CD 8 years ago when my daughter was born. She listened to it each night up until her brother was born in 2002. Now we're expecting to pass it on to their new sibling in Aug of 2005. Amazing how one CD can put 3 different children to sleep so peacefully!

Kid Rock music review Better than Wake the Dead
I got this CD after purchasing Wake the Dead. This CD can't even be compared to their second album. Wake the Dead is good and a great piece of catchy hardcore, but this CD is just so much better. The breakdowns are brutal and so refreshing. It's good to know that there are still bands out there that play good hardcore like Comeback. These guys are great live, and I recommend that everyone should see them. Buy either albums, they are both good, but this one is booming.

Kid Rock music review amazing? yeah
yeah, i'm not here to write some long review saying how much everyone should love this album...i'm here to write a review stating how much I loved this album.

    and i did...i loved it.

so if you're into stuff like bane, kids like us, anchors away, maybe even TERROR and you don't already have this album, it would be a good idea for someone like you to pick it up.
