Africa music review The CD,although old ,is superb
It is fundamental of a typical african praise song and highly inspiring. The messages are akin to modern day life in good communities. The lyrics in MOUSSOLOU leaves me firm in thought as our ancestors intended.

Africa music review Philthy Nu-Skool Afro-Beat Groovenalia
A tasty afrocentric side project from Moz-art of the Jestofunk triumverate on Irma records. The second track, "Green Africa", is driving Afro-Beat straight out of the Kuti Closet, and for me the highest-light on the album. Krunky as it gets and phat bottomed to keep you pulsing. This is not an album for Afro-House purists. Moz-art follows his muse through various styles. From Afro-Beat to Ambient. From Brazillian tinted percussive tracks to Dark Electronica. It is more a collection of great songs than a great album from a stictly thematic viewpoint. If you have an open fusionist sensibility and an afro-centric orientation you will love this jam. I do.

Bonga is probably Angola's best-known singer-songwriter, partially because he's based in Paris, allowing his albums to be distributed internationally, and partially because his story--well-loved musician forced into exile by a repressive regime because of his political lyrics--has all the elements of a Hollywood romance. Bonga wouldn't have been driven into exile if his music didn't resonate with listeners, and it was his conscious attempt to use the traditional music of Angola's various tribal cultures in his compositions that made him a star at home. Since going into exile, he's also added touches of European, Brazilian, and other African music into his smooth, effervescent style, as evidenced on Mulemba Xangola. "Incaldido" is a sprightly coledera, a dance rhythm from Cape Verde, driven by a sparkling guitar hook, while the doleful "Escapada" has hints of both Verde's morna and Portugal's fado. On "Bunguleiros Da Noite," Bonga has the balafons (African marimbas) add a slight reggae lilt to a semba, the Angolan rhythm that became the samba when it was transplanted to Brazil. --j. poet

    Africa music review Excellent! simply...
Knowing Bonga style for quite a while I came to appreciate one of the most talented angolan and thus african musician...in this album he proves his ability to connect the past with the present without losing tradition...songs like Incaldido will simply make you stand up and dance and appreciate the richness of his melou voice with a rithm that is peculiar...listen on!

Africa music review Great set of African popular music
The second volume in this series is of a similarly high calibre to the first... an album that blew a lot of people's minds when it came out in 1998. If you're already heavily into African pop, many of these names may already be familiar to you, but this would be great for anyone looking for a strong introduction to the style, or just for a pleasantly structured collection to put on and groove out on... Recommended!

    Africa music review Traditional Fusion
For fans of traditional music this is a must-have. It is a colusion of Middle-Eastern, African, and Indian music. Middle Eastern is what stands out most but it sounds far different than most Arab or Turkic music that I've heard. In some ways its more accessible to the novice as well.

    Africa music review Brilliant Saidi
Saidi (Upper Nile Valley) music, recorded in the field over 20 years ago, but the sound quality is good and the music is wonderful. The musical themes and instruments will be familiar to listeners of the Musicians of the Nile, some performers on this recording later formed the Musicians of the Nile. The CD presents a cross section of Saidi style: 2 songs accompanied on rebaba - one is an `epic poem' (Hilal gesture), a zuffara solo, and dances played on mizmars. The first `stick dance' has lovely subtle rebaba playing, reminiscent of the introduction on the latcho drom piece bambi saidi. - The cover notes are helpful for those trying to learn more about Egyptian folk music.
