khaled is the best singer in the world.

This is a great album that anyone can enjoy. Sung in Arabic-Algerian by vocalist, Ourad Hourai, inspired by the famous, Algerian king of rai, Khaled; The album emphasizes the known trumpet, played professionally and hypnotically by Bellemou Messaoud. He successfully adds more colors to the early-generation-style of the rai rebels who rarely added the trumpet to their rhythms. It adds some Spanish flavors ... Most of the lyrics in this album are pretty much Khaled's, but surprisingly Ouard Houari's voice is very similar to that of Khaled's. At first I was not sure if he was Khaled or some other vocalist until I read the details in the album. The unique thing about this album is that the music is so genuine; just like if it was played life, but without the noise or cheers of the crowds. Another important and unique element of the rhythms is the keyboard; played by Misabih Miloud, it adds warmth, sincerity, and flavor to the music. And also comes the 80's style guitar, palyed by Maklouf Mohamed, which helps modernizes the beats.

This is a great CD that fits many moods and occasions. I find it easy to listen to it after work, home, at my car, while traveling, and while at parties. It just has the perfect weights of rhythms.

I strongly recommend this CD to those that enjoy world music. And looking forward fro more albums to come from this group.....

I give this album 5 stars because I enjoyed very much.

I don't much about the musical traditions of this artist, but the music is simply great. Even to an ignorati like this me after this CD I have fallen in love with this man and his traditions.

One of the best French albums i've ever heard

I want to thank Cheb Khaled for his wonderful music,,because it adds new manner to all youth who can enjoying this music...

I wish if Cheb Khaled can see my rate to know that there is a great young who loves him to the death...

also I advise everybody to hear the great music "Rai" and he will taste anew favourite...

Faouzi Tarkhani easily fuses hip-hop, rap, and urban rock with much success! Already very popular in Europe, he is only recently become popular in parts of the USA....this album is a wonderful showcase of this particular entertainers talents and abilities. Highly recommended!

Harramt Ahebak is the best CD Warda has ever made. Her music is soothing and up-beat. Her lovely voice goes well with the music. Warda is by no comparison the BEST SINGER EVER!!!!! She is definitely better than the so called superstar Amr Diab. WARDA RULES!!!!!!!

Okay, that's a bit misleading. Chaabi is indeed popular music, but this is not "world" music. That term usually implies traditional folk music watered down with synthesizers, drum machines and electric guitars. You'll find none of that here. The instrumentation is traditional and all acoustic (oud, quanun, banjo, violin, various percussion), but also very full. The production and sound quality is very good, but also rather dense (not a criticism - that's what gives this music its pop appeal). The vocals are well blended in the mix. The songs vary between minor- and major- sounding keys, but all are fairly consistent rhythmically. The tempos never get as frenetic as Rai music. One criticism is that the liner notes are somewhat lacking. Sure, you learn a bit about the history of Chaabi as a style, and that El Harrachi died in a car accident in 1980, but you don't get to know much about the actual music on this CD. When was this music recorded? Who are the other musicians? Is this a compilation? But really that's a minor criticism because the whole CD is wonderful. This CD contains the original version of the song "Ya Rayah" that was recently remixed by Sonar on the Six Degrees compilation "Arabian Travels."
