As on their now-celebrated debut album, Voices From Heaven, this miraculous ensemble from Johannesburg's notorious/iconic Soweto township moves between Anglican-inspired and gospel-tinged hymns plus assorted home-wrought styles. The selections, performed in four languages including English, are either presented in a cappella arrangements, backed by a guitar band with percussion or wreathed in clapping, stomping and whistles. Soloists Sipokazi Luzipo and Vincent Jiyane are especial stand-outs; the latter's performance on "Weeping" could wring tears from a stone. Other unforgettable moments include "Noyana" and "Thapelo" but it is the more well-known tunes that fully reveal the ensemble’s power to transform. "Oh Happy Day," "Swing Down, Sweet Chariot," "Khumbaya" and Solomon Linda's deathless "Mbube (aka "Wimoweh" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight") are resuscitated and refreshed, as is "Nkosi Sikele'iAfrika," South Africa's soaring national anthem. The atmosphere, while moving, is in no way sad or depressing. In fact, other than the awe-inspiring beauty of the singing, which seems to build a rainbow bridge between this world and the next, the overwhelming impression is of upbeat courage, dignity, grace and hope. --Christina Roden

South Africa music review Breathtaking
The Soweto Gospel Choir performs gospel music, traditional African music and even pop music using the call and response vocal techniques that are associated with Soweto Township in South Africa. I've never heard this music performed by such a large ensemble of singers and the results are as soulful and deeply inspiring as any music you are likely to hear on this planet of ours.

"Asimbonanga/Biko" is a gorgeous rendering two combined songs, one by popular South African musician Johnny Clegg and the other a tribute to Steven Biko by England's Peter Gabriel. There are English language versions of songs of familiar songs like "I Bid You Goodnight", "Swing Down", "Kumbaya" and a rendition of "Oh Happy Day" that gives the Edwin Hawkins Choir's original version a run for the money. "Mbube" is the version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" which brings it all back home to the African roots of the popular Tokens tune from the Sixties.

There are also some up-tempo tunes like "Njalo" in the ju-ju music tradition which sound quite a bit like the hip shaking socca dance music of played in West Indian nations like Trinidad, Tabago, Bardados and Dominica. "Weeping" sounds like an American pop tune straight from repertoire of a jazzy musical stylist like Roberta Flack or Nora Jones.

As with every previous reviewer I can't think of enough good things to say about the Soweto Gospel Choir. Take me at my word, they are breathtaking.

South Africa music review BLESSED
I just can't seem to get enough of listening to this CD. From the first song to the last is all good. It is very uplifting. I may not understand the language but I feel the message of the songs in my heart and soul. This is one for your collection.

South Africa music review I'm listening to this CD now...
While I don't always understand the words, the spirit of this CD has touched my heart and brought me to tears. It's amazing to me how we can worship the Lord in our own language and others are moved who don't even understand the words. This CD reaches inside and grips your heart and soul... If you love the Lord, you will be lifted. This CD is spiritual indeed. I can't imagine hearing this choir in person. I hope they come near San Diego some day soon.

South Africa music review Where Are YOU?!?!
How can I be the ONLY person to review this project? I MUST be missing something...this MUST be an esoteric version of the original album that I am erroneously posting to. There is NO WAY that I am the first person on AMAZON to tell any reader that might stumble upon this review just how incredible this recording is. I truly must be an idiot that is simply unaware. But since I'm being a fool - BUY THIS ALBUM - wherever you can find it. It has been an incredible and positive background for my life. Truly, truly incredible.

South Africa music review Break more tracks
Amy Lee and Seether make an excellent duo, and the vocals of Amy Lee and Shaun Morgan together, with incredible drums in the background, create an incredible rock sound. The infectious rock sound and tunes in the song make it eveything someone would expect from Seether and Evanescence's singer, Amy Lee.

Perhaps because Amy Lee and Shaun Morgan are dating perhaps it is a sign we may see more excellent duo's, or perhaps even, a duo album - imagine 'Fallen' and 'Karma and Effect' as one album. Brilliant guitars, drums, vocals, the whole package.

This single is definitely worth the money, so be prepared to reward your ears with no doubt, one of the best rock songs currently selling.

South Africa music reivew More Videos
This single should be an example for all other singels, I was looking for the seether song "Broken" for a long time and finally I heard that a single was coming out. this CD also comes with a high quality video of the song (BIG BONUS), there are some other seether songs included on this CD but if you want more seether songs you may as well buy an album.

South Africa music reivew Amy's chunks sound good but the original...
I must admit, YES, I absolutely LOVE the duet. But seriously, I like the original with just THe dude...uhm...oh god what's his name again? Shawn I think. Probably spelt wrong but oh well. >.< But yeah The one with just him singing it is amazing as well. <3 And don't think I'm just a "Only Seether" Fan, either. I was introduced to Seether and the incredible music they make through the duet. ::Sigh:: If you think they suck, go listen to the songs: "Love Her" "Fine Again" "Needles" "69 Tea" And just yeah. In that order, too. XD Wow this got long, and i'm simply ranting so i'm off. Toodles (I probably won't be back, so try not to reply . XD)

South Africa music review Sooo cool, now rock bands are talking
Hi, I heard this song on-line (...) and I had to listen to it at least 7 times! I then heard it on the radio and I jumped, that one girl who said something about how Amy and Seather got together, well, it's true! Ok, you're thinking I'm just a kid, no one should listen to me, well, now it's time to!
This is the best song Amy did with someone else, she did do a song with Big Dismal called Missing You, that song is good, but this song is WAY better.
When Evanescence first came out, I got the album, Anyway, I love this song, and whoever said that us kids are sick that we think that stuff like this is awesome is lame, well, back off!
At least we have good taste in music, unlike you, who obviously
likes stupid pop stars. So stop making us think that pop stars are cool, when they are NOT! Keep thoughts like that to yourself.
Sorry, I just felt like doing that. Anyway, I love this song more and more every day.
Important - Amy Lee and Evanescence fans - the new Evanescence album will be out aroud the 5th of November, I know alot of stuff, so if anyone has questions, remember, (..), and I have lots of news, so write a review on any Evanescence thing, and you can ask a question, I'll give you the answer. Thank you, please, stop letting adults make things lame for us kids, 'cause then nothing is fun, I'm not saying that every review you write has to say happy happy joy joy, just don't make things make our day and other adults feel sad, or make our day feel as crappy as much as you can.
