International music reivew Get It If You Can
This is a rare, hard to find CD single. But if you love Pearl Jam and have a chance to get this CD, then do so -- if just for the love of Pearl Jam alone. It includes the great song GIVEN TO FLY (off of the under rated Yield album) and a great song the band often performs live, LEATHERMAN.

International music review Quite possibly one of pearl jams best songs?
After the realse of vitology, pearl jam steped out of the spotlight indefinetly, only to surface momentarily. Yeild in my personal opioin is as if pearl jam left off of the sounds of vitology and no code and picked right back up on the catchy/rocking sounds of ten and vs. "given to fly" is no exception, altough strangely sounding like led zeppelin's "going to callifornia" has a very impressive melodic/memorable content to it. Begining on a soft key, rocking, soft key only makes it for the better to listein to reapeatly.

International music review Exellent work from Ed and Mike
"And he still gives his love, he just gives it away. The love he recieves is the love that is saaaaaaved". This song is flying above all the other great tracks from 1998's Yield. Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready really did the job on this one. It is a catcher AND it will just continue to grow on you. It is an catcher and a grower! Most Pearl Jam songs needs to grow on you for you to find the exellence in them. Given To Fly is very strong live as well. Check ot the Milan version and the St. Louis version, Incredible. The B-sides here are "Pilate"(another song from Yield) and "Leatherman". It sounds great and I think they used it on a christmas vinyl as a gift for the fans in the fan club. I believe they get a vinyl every year with some goodies on them.
I suggest you buy the whole album than this particular single. Enjoy...

Back in the mid-'80s, Hoboken, New Jersey's Gutbank preceded and predicted such smart, powerful female punks as Hole, Babes In Toyland, and P.J. Harvey, not to mention the riot grrrls. Now, the original trio of Alice Genese, Karyn Kuhl, and Tia Sprocket are back with a new name, Sexpod, a slightly more metallic sound, and a killer debut called Goddess Blues. "Patti Smith meets Soundgarden" is the phrase that's repeated throughout their press kit, and for once, the disc lives up to the hype. Any one of these gals could kick Alanis Morrisette's butt with one hand tied behind her back. Jim Derogatis

International music reivew Best female rock group I've ever heard
I hear the title track on the radio a couple of years ago and decided to buy the album. I was not disappointed! These girls know how to rock. Nothing sappy or whiny; just straight up metal with awesome bass. Really not a bad song on the whole album.

International music review Painfully Overlooked.
I just ordered this album for about 2 bux and after hearing it i wouldve gladly payed a higher price for this lost treasure. It really is a great album, and shouldve got more recognition than it did. There are few albums that i can actually listen to all the way through and this is one of them! Lot of emotion put into the music here....Very very soulful metal. The guitar work here is awesome to say the least....alot of scorching acid-solo's that make you wonder why Karyn Kuhl isnt at least considered one of the greatest female guitarists today. Just listen to the epic album-closer "waterfall" I mean wow....if Hendrix were still with us today he'd be proud.Karyn is also an amazing vocalist, shes very hypnotic and powerful. The whole band is great! This is a must....pick it up! You wont be sorry!

International music review The greatest band you've never heard of!!!...
Sexpod never really did achieve any recognition for being one of the best female rock bands of all time, mainly I think because of the short lifespan of the band, and the reclusive personality of the lead singer, songwritter, and guitarist Karyn Kuhl.

From the very first power chords of "Goddess Blues" (the first track), it's apparant that something incredibly amazing is happening here. I've listened to many female guitarists in my time, and none can compare to Karyn's talent or insight. Her playng brings forth images of almost every great rock guitarist I've ever heard...(Hendrix, Clapton, Paige, ect.)... and adds her own fresh smoothe touch to it that makes it unbelievably addictive to listen to. Her talent is not limited to playng power chords either, she can and does play the most phenomenal solos. She can do it all with a guitar, and do it all really well.

Her voice is nothing short of hypnotic. I think what mainly draws me to it is that there's the slightlest hint of unintended desperation in every line. She never wails or screams...rather reflects a quite confidence, intertwined with a hint of despair.

Karyn still plays around New York City with her new "Band of Whores". I got the chance to meet her a couple of times over the past year, and she's really a great person as well as an incredible talent.

If you love ROCK as much as I do(especially girl bands). You owe it to yourself to buy this!!!!!

PLAY IT LOUD!!!!!!!!!

International music review Uruguay in Zitarrosa's Voice
Although I may disagree with the selection of songs for this "Grandes xitos" CD, still it is a sample of Zitarrosa's legacy to Uruguay musical landscape and to Latin American folklore. Perhaps the absence most yearned for in this compilation is "Adagio a mi pas." It is very difficult for me to listen to Don Alfredo without getting emotional. He represents the dignified image of what a singer and songwriter should be for his co-nationals. His commitment to them, his solidarity with the underprivileged, his stance for social justice brought about his long exile during the Uruguayan military dictatorship. When he returned, he stopped by Buenos Aires to thank those who helped him during his exile and to show his deep appreciation for Argentina that was healing from a brutal military regime. Don Alfredo symbolized that musical brotherhood across the Ro de la Plata. He knew that Latin American borders are in reality bridges. A few years after his return to Uruguay, Don Alfredo passed away to become another immortal Latin American troubadour, like Atahualpa Yupanqui, Violeta Parra, Al Primera, Chabuca Granda, Vctor Jara.

International music review Buena Coleccion de los Exitos de The Noise
Suena mejor que la material original.

International music review The Best!, It's no lie.
This is a CD that you can pop in the ol' CD player & jam to again & again. I also wish record labels would make more CD's like this one. If you've lost track of The Noise, this is the perfect CD to catch up & get back on track with one of the hottest groups in it's class. Lukky13

I just think that the music is real phat. They should do more stuff like this. That's my personal opinion.

International music review I am in love with the girls from LYRIC!!!!!!
Saw a poster in a store in Atlanta, and wow they looked good! I just got the CD yesterday and it is worth every single penny. All songs are cool and worth listening to. The girls have a nice look to them and sexy clothes in the cover. A very nice addition to any good CD collection.

International music review Great music from Lyric
I bought this tape because a friend saw them in Jet magazine. Without knowing anything about them, the music sounded nice and the lyrics where very smart, probably why the name of the group. In general, it is a very good CD that you will enjoy for a while.

International music reivew deceptively simple
Having started listening to New Order back in 1993 (with Blue Monday) and since then I've engaged in a long-term, close contemplation of their recordings, I was initially disappointed by their newest (and last?) single "Here to Stay." It seemed to lack luster and the edge that makes New Order the band and recording artists that they are. I'm always happier with the recordings New Order produce themselves (for instance, the Stephen Hague recordings contain some brilliant songs, but can be a little homogenized sounding), so I was immediately wary of the Chemical Brothers collaboration. That said, New Order are still incredible songsmiths, and the song has grown on me. The instrumental version presented here reveals the depth of the musical material in a way that the radio edit and even the full length vocal version might obscure. The guitar work in "Here to Stay" can end up sounding "canned," like, here's a little New Order trademark sound so you don't think this is an Electronic song. Some of the synth work is also deceptively simple and even kitschy in its pop sound -- deliberately so. But why sacrifice the opportunity to make more of statement at the level of the sound, for which New Order have been so innovative?

International music review Nostalgia at its best
This song is bad ...; it is what New Order is all about. Produced by the Chemical Brother and New Order, it has an 80's feel to it. The words get suck in your head "Like a bright light on the horizon, shining so bright he'll get you flying, he'll get you flying, flying, flying, flying". Bernard Sumner still sounds like a 16-year-old boy and it gives you that feeling of nostalgia. The versions on here are great the Felix-the-Cat version is sweet, it features a line form the original version song that was never released. "Set you free". And it is in this remix. The song Player in the League is also worth the price of the CD. I still don't understand why these songs, Sabotage (is also a b-side from 60 Miles Per Hour) and Player in the League never surface on an album. These songs are better than some of the ones on the Get Ready album. But without these b-sides, we wouldn't have these neat-o imports.

Bottom line great tune, fair price, if you are a New Order fan you do the math.

International music review GREAT to say, we're here to stay...
This Australian import-single is well worth money...all versions are included here... (instead of the London records 2-disc-set with the same songs EXCLUDING the extended instrumental!!!). This is a fine song which will grow and grow on you. It's gonna be placed in the classic New Order songs such as Blue Monday, BLT, Touched, Fine time and Regret... Very good dance/rock song... New Order at their best again.

Uruguayan multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer Hugo Fattoruso is perhaps best known to North American audiences as a member of Brazilian singer Milton Nascimento's band. But Fattoruso has been working for decades on intriguing fusions of jazz, Anglo pop, and Uruguayan music styles such as candombe (a drum-heavy African-rooted style) and murga (carnival music). His records with the Uruguayan trio Opa, recorded and released in the United States in the '70s and reissued in the '90s, are still fascinating, rich with possibilities. Homework, recorded both at his home in Montevideo and a New York studio, is disappointingly uneven. Some of the material is not fully realized. Other songs come across as weak stabs at pop. Still, Fattoruso is capable of smart, neotraditional songwriting, as in the delightful "Conmigo" or "Agua y Aceite." Also, the simple "Melodia de Candombe" and, especially, "El Gramillero" hint at the power, joy, and artistic potential of candombe. More of this would have been welcome. --Fernando Gonzalez

International music reivew Jazzy candombe
Hugo Fettoruso's HOMEWORK presents a fine achievement by one of the members of Grupo del Cuareim: yes, the candombe rhythm is present in HOMEWORK - but so is a more jazzy overlay and a number of elements not Candombe in nature.

International music review bien Hugo
"Brisas" y "mi cancion" son los mejores momentos de este disco en mi opinion, me gusta mucho el canto, me gustaria que existiesen ms canciones as en la musica uruguaya.
"los anillos de Alberto" y "atardecer" me gustan mucho tambien.
Terrible copositor ademas de gran interprete.
hugo, espero ms discos de temas tuyos

International music review Original and just beautiful-- from a US fan
This is a great musician. The music is inspiring and refreshing--different yet universal. My friends and I wish he made more CDs available in the US (new material as well as his classics with the group OPA and Los Shakers, which I've heard & read they're not to be missed). Thanks Amazon.com for making this available to the world.

International music reivew Catchy dance track, soon to be covered by Dannii Minogue
Like a previous reviewer, I also heard this flight on an SAS flight (to Copenhagen in October), and I found myself waiting for the tape loop to play the song again.

A very catchy dance song, with a beat reminiscent of songs from Dead or Alive's "Youthquake" album.

Perhaps with the March 2003 release of Dannii Minogue's cover (yes, Kylie's sister), the song will gain wider airplay. However, this is the version you want.

    International music review Master DJ
JCA is such a great artist and he is so under represented here in the USA. It's a terrible thing when you have to search far and wide in other contries just to find great DJ's, Mixes, or Music in general. I first heard of JCA through an online friend in Austria, and he sent me the 'I Begin To Wonder (Radio Edit).' Amazing! And it's not that Dannii Minogues Version is terrible (as some have said it to be on these reviews) it's just a little different, afterall, Dannii and JCA worked together on it. But in the end, I return to the original and JCA!

International music review don't buy dannii's version
I've listened to the "I begin to wonder" track from JCA on my local radio station for the past year and then heard Dannii Minogues version on Howard Stern which sucked. JCA's is much better.

International music reivew Better than what I've heard on the first album
Mind you, I've not really been a fan of Matchbox 20. The material from their first album sounded too much like the 2-4 chord College Alterna-pop that I've heard for the last 10+ years. However, songs like "If You're Gone" and "Bent" are a refreshing change of scene in an otherwise bland radio market.

Some fans don't like "If You're Gone" because it sounds like Chicago. Well, I like "If You're Gone" and I like Chicago. When is the last time you heard anyone take an artistic chance on horns (besides Dave Matthews)?

International music review OMG - this is the best band ever!
This song is one of my fave's on the album. This is the one song that explains my life 4 mins and 34 seconds. This whole band has something that no other band has. Its an awesome band and an awesome song.

International music review "If your gone" is not the second single I would have picked
"If your gone" is great, and I have to give Rob Thomas alot of credit for singing this kind of whimpy song, but there's alot more better cuts from "Mad Season." "Angry,Crutch," and my favorite,You won't be mine."

    International music reivew Garbage "music"
I consider myself an open-minded music fan but this is by far the most horrible and disgusting CD I ever heard in my life. There is nothing here but two people who obviously aren't musicians at all, mixing non-sense sounds for people that feel "cool" and "special" thinking that they are a selected group who can understand it's "depth and colorfulness". Come on, give me a beak... this is a trashy Band and CD! I really can't understand how this garbage could be out there in the market. You definetely have to be in some kind of substance or something to buy the trashy sounds on this CD. Do yourself a favor and save your money for something worthy like Volovan or Jumbo. I am telling you, this really isn't a good choice for "music".

International music review sensational and fun
This album is absolutely fun, upbeat and even hilarious. One of my favorite tracks is "Alo", this song is actually quiet beautiful. It could even be part of a Pure Moods selection, its very inspirational and motivational. The coolest track is "Te Lo Juro Por Madonna." Mexico should be proud to have these excellent musicians produce this innovative and original music.
