International music review This song takes music to a new level!!!
I was never really a big Cher fan, but after I heard this song when it first came out, I couldn't "believe" how amazing it was!!! It literally takes music to a new level! It literally sounds as if you're being sucked into the song (you'd have to hear it to understand). Filled with a haunting outerspace sound, edgy electronic effects and a good bassline make this one of the best songs I've ever heard. It's so original and unlike anything I've heard before. The song came out in October 2001, and I can still listen to this song over and over again to this day. Unfortunately though, the single was only released in Europe, and since it didn't catch on very well (because people don't have enough sense to give new kinds of music a chance), Warner Bros. scrapped the song as a US single and released boring "Song for the Lonely" instead.

Definitely her best work!!!

International music review better than the orange one
I am reviewing the green version. The reason for this is because i don't if it's displayed on here.Anyway, this is a track by track and i will what makes this better than the orange version:

001 Full length version(4.40)This one is way better than the shorter "Radio edit" on the orange one-very good cher.
002 Almighty 12" mix(8.02)Way better than the almighty 7" "radio" mix on orange-it has more umphhh.
003 (All or nothing)Danny International mix(7.10)One of the best remixes of all or nothing.Even one of the best cher track remixes!!

I highly reccomend you buy this one, grab it-unless you want the video of her hit single,"believe".RATING-10/10

International music review The music is good with Cher!
This song is amazing. I really love the arrangements and vocals. On my TMNGWY single, I have the following tracks: 1)Full Version 2)Almighty full remix 3)All or nothing - International mix.
I don't know if it is available here at Amazon but I highly recommand it anyway. The full Almighty remix is way better than the radio edit, and the remix of All or Nothing is one of the best remixes i've ever heard. So grab this, unless you really want the Believe cd-rom video.

International music review Great CD
I have a lot of Irish CDs and this is by far my favorite. Traditional music performed in a fun way that just makes you want to sing along. I can't wait to see the band live in concert. If they are as fun live as they are on this cd it will be a great show. Buy this cd and the only thing you will be disappointed in is that Switchback has only released one other Irish CD. I want more.

International music review A MUST HAVE for St. Patty's day!
This is Brian and Marty doing what I think they do best. Singing good old Irish drinking songs (and one original one!) and having a blast! The producing is solid and the sound is like you're right there. Get ready for St. Patrick's day with this terrific CD!!

International music review Takes You Away
Listening to this cd takes you away to another time and place - a timeless time at a neighborhood pub in ol' Ireland. You can close your eyes and pretend you are there with these songs and the spirit with which they are sung. Extremely talented musicians having a lot fun combine to make this a great cd to listen to over and over!

The soul does drip on this unique CD from Zimbabwe's Oliver Mutukudzi. With more than 30 Gold records, Tuku, as he is affectionately known, is one of the finest, most uplifting musicians from Southern Africa. This latest release is unique because Mutukudzi has lost three band members to AIDS, and the songs on the album were originally written for his band to perform. Rather than record with a new band, Mutukudzi chose to do it on his own. The result is Ndega Zvangu (All Alone). It's a stripped down CD, no big band, no characteristic dance tunes, mostly Mutukudzi's gruff voice with his acoustic guitar, performing plaintive trance-inducing melodies. The songs are often about social issues, respecting elders, marriage, and Black identity. In "Andinzwi," sung not in Shona but English, Oliver Mutukudzi tries to understand the nature of a hero. The song is dedicated to the late Safirio Madzikatire, one of Zimbabwe's great comedians. Mutukudzi asks, "What is a hero? Do you have to die to be a hero? Here?" --Bob Boilen

International music review One of top five in 300 CDs
Simple acoustic guitar, lyrics written from the passion of the soul working through the agony of loved people passing, sung by a man who's been through the suffering of Apartheid and the fire of protest. This is one of the top five of my 300 CDs and every week it gives me peace and strength. Tuku's voice is husky and rich and his guitar style simple and beautiful. Buy this CD...support music that supports freedom from tyranny.

International music review Yes!
This CD just blows me away each time I hear it. Definitely one of the best CDs in my collection. This man reaches out to the very core of your soul...

International music review Mutukudzi unplugged....
This is glorious heartfelt, soulful singing and playing. Mutukudzi navigates seamlessly from one song to the next. By the time you have finished listening, you have the impression of having heard one long sweet meditation on loss and redemption; while each individual song reflects the depth of his warmth and humanity. If you are looking for a timeless acoustic performance, GET THIS ALBUM!

International music review Excellent!
Charly is a genius. It had worked with very important musicians in Argentina. For instance, Pedro Aznar, who had worked with... Pat Metheny (see Letter From Home). This CDs covers the 1st part of the Charly's career. If you prefer a newer Charly, try the second part of this CD.

International music review I loved it!!
I just got this cd and i absolutely loved it. It has all of my favorite hits from her like "amor prohibido" and " Coma la flor".It is a great collection of her hits that every Selena fan would enjoy.Plus at the end it has a great medley af three of her songs.I reccomend it to all of her fans.

International music review Great like always
I have to say this is by far one of my favorite Selena cd's because it has all of her spanish hits. I'm glad they did it is they any more to say. This has to be the first cd in your Selena collection if you are just starting out because it has what she is all about. Then go pick of the live cds because it her hits live and from there you decide.

International music review If you only buy one
If you have room in your budget for only one Selena CD, this CD is a good one to have. Personally, I prefer "ALL MY HITS, VOL. 1" because it includes the original version of my favorite "No Me Queda Mas" and does not include my least favorite "Techno Cumbia." However, if you really like or think you may really like Selena, then I would disagree that this CD is a good place to start. This is because all of Selena's original albums were so very good. Now that those original albums have been reissued, I would strongly suggest that you eventually add all of them to your collection, and avoid most of these new compilations as they contain very little that is new and are therefore unnecessary. The great thing about Selena's original albums is that nearly every song on them is just as good or better than the ones that keep turning up on these new compilations for the 5th or 6th time. I give this CD 5 stars because the music is so great, but you probably don't need it.

International music reivew Brazilectro singer-songwriter
Mylene is one of the dynamic new Brazilian artists--along with Fernanda Porto and Bebel Gilberto, to name a few of her femaile contemporaries--to successfully blend modern electronica with "bossa-nova" or MPB traditions. Mylene's album has a greater dynamic range than Bebel, who though wonderful sounds a bit repetative after multiple listens. Standouts on this album include "48 horas," "Corao tonto," and "Longa, longa noite," though there is hardly a throwaway track with the possible exception of "Eleanor Rigby" (I agree with most reviewers that it just doesn't fit with the rest of the album). The electronic elements manage to sound organic, and the mix of reggae, drum and bass, bossa nova and MPB sounds fresh instead of like the stylistic smorgasborg it could have in less capable hands. Snaps to Ramiro Musotto for excellent production and percussion.

International music reivew What a Debut!
By Mylene Pires! I must admit, I wasn't too sure of what to expect from this cd. All that I could see was that Ramiro Musotto did a lot of the percussion and programming and you have Mylene's vocals beautifully laid over the beats and rythms.

How to describe the sound... what a challenge! It has a cool chill-out vibe. Sometimes she goes into fado, and then in and out of African, both with an electronic and beat rich touch. The sound goes in many different directions but the general tone of the cd remains very consistent. To be honest, Mylene's debut cd reminds me of the way I thought Cibelle's debut cd would be. Dark, sensuous and mysterious - however that is not to say that Cibelle's cd doesn't have any of those elements.

I definitely recommend this cd. What I also liked about this release is that it didn't have the "typical" throw in of a Brazilian classic and has some fresh, innovative cuts... with a dark side. However not all of the cuts got me and Eleanor Rigby does NOT fit into this cd. So be warned; if you're looking for light-hearted bossa nova then this may not be for you. I'd recommend this if you enjoyed music by Cibelle, Helena or Ondha Sonora: Red Hot & Lisbon.

International music review Mylene is a must-hear for fans of Brazilian-based music!
Current Brazilian musical trends are definitely deserving of wider recognition, at least for those listeners looking for vibrant, creative, individualistic musical artists who embrace soul and substance. Rio's Mylene Pires is one of a number of artists who could serve as exhibit A for that last statement. Although the music's overall soft-spoken feel suggests bossa, the music itself builds upon a varied palate of musical styles, including reggae, samba, funk, and other compatible idioms. The subtle contemporary arrangements mix acoustic and electronica touches in a fresh variety of ways, offering original percussive soundscapes that set this CD apart from her peers (credit goes to Ramiro Musotto for his production).

Even with the electronica and percussion elements, the results have a wide-open feel, as opposed to a numbing wall of sound that could have resulted in less capable hands...it sounds electric but feels acoustic! The tunes head in a rich variety of areas ... I don't think anyone will accuse this album of being one-dimensional. Unlike some others, I like her personalized version of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby". Above all of this are the emotive vocals of Mylene, who has one of the most attractive voices you will ever have the pleasure of hearing, singing relatively softly ala Bebel Gilberto, and in a similar less-is-more manner that is deeply affecting. NOTE: as of now there are English translations of all the tunes at http://www.rockpaperscissors.biz.

The music is ok, but is is not a representative compilation of the music from Nicaragua.

International music review Pincelada Nicaraguense.

International music review BEAUTIFUL MUSIC
I love this Cd since the first song to the last one. Starting with "morena hermosa" a marimba-backed son that invites to a dance. "Solentiname" a song which describes the military aggresions of the contras, this is the USA, towards Nicaraguan comunities.

Now that the WTC tragedy is going on and that the USA society is angry and sad they all must hear and read on "LOS NI`OS DE AYAPAL" a song dedicated to a group of Ayapal children who were killed by the contras while flying.

Woman was very important in the Sandinista revolution "LAS ALFAFERAS DEL CAMPO" or "AY MUJER". Songs with love and intelligence.

¡Viva Sandino y viva Nicaragua, carajo :)!

International music reivew Cosmic Cowboy
Some of us followed the heady days of the Byrds for the splendours of Gene Clark's writing and singing. Possessed of one of the era's truly great country rock voices, (Steve Young is his direct male equivalent)when Clark soared, we flew with him. As a Byrd apart, the stellar career one might have assumed would follow, was thwarted by mis-timing and mixed managerial direction from his musical marketeers.'White Light' is graced with many fine tunes, but its melancholy shifting melodies failed to break the charts.'No Other' found Clark, the cosmic cowboy, in full career. Production by Thomas Jefferson Kaye (he of the eccentric and affable,'First Grade', which I doubt ever made it to CD format) was a pulling-out of all stops. Appalling lack of support again dogged this often brilliant album. I'm thankful 'Collector's Choice' sought to reissue it.'Life's Greatest Fool','Silver Phial', and'Lady of the North' don't extend him. But in each of the remaining five songs, Clark's crooning is simply the best of his career. Russ Kunkle sits in for most of the drumming. Craig Doerge does some keyboard tinkling. Chris Hillman some mandolin. Jesse Ed Davis and Danny Kooch share guitar credits. Such were Clark's magnetic credentials. Some think 'No Other' is Baroquely excessive. Others, that the very mouthing of such loaded words as'magic','cosmic' and their ilk is wishy washy and bombastic. Perhaps I'd conceed this. But,strangely, they don't date the work or in any way diminsh Clark's conviction which I still find transporting.

International music review Longer version is better than the original release
I don't know whether I agree with fans who feel that this album was Gene Clark's masterpiece. However, this CD version with the added tracks is definitely the definitive version of "No Other." Indeed, I prefer the songs in their earlier, more simple format, with Gene's spirited singing, softer guitars, and the absence of the choir. It should be noted that this album far exceeds anything being done at the time, or since, by McGuinn, Crosby, and Hillman. A must buy!

International music review Quintessential Gene Clark, "No Other"

As a Gene Clark fan from the Byrds period, the "Gene Clark and the Gosdins" album failed to live up to my expectations at the time: I missed the jangly 12 string Rickenbacker and the more rock driven sensibility behind the classic "Feel a Whole Lot Better." I found it way too demanding then to reappraise the artist within a solo context and turned my listening attention instead toward "Younger than Yesterday."

By 1972 I was ready to try again when I purchased the "Gene Clark Collector Series: Early L.A. Sessions." I was feeling nostalgic for the era, a feeling exacerbated by the release of Lenny Kaye's "Nuggets." Still rather put off by the laid back country material, I discovered vestiges of that brooding poetic genius in songs such as "The Same One" and "I Found You." That record stayed in my collection until, by 1991, I bought the "Echoes" CD. The acoustic version of "So You Say You Lost Your Baby" really impressed me. This, along with the studio version of the tune, with its awesome string arrangement by Leon Russell, enhanced my burgeoning reaffirmation of the man, his music and legacy.

Finally, I happened to come across a copy of "No Other" listed as a reissue of his long lost masterpiece. Upon first hearing the record, I felt a sense of closure in such songs as "Strength of Strings" and "No Other." What he alluded to in his scatter blot imagery of "So You Say You Lost Your Baby," a musical tale told in a little over two minutes, now seemed reconfigured into a definitive musical statement.

The eight songs for me represent a kind of interlocking tone poem. Each song, like the "notes that roll on winds/with swirling wings," segues into the next as naturally as our moods change according to circumstance. Each song is distinct, a world unto itself, yet finds itself somehow linked to the others by the finest of threads. From "Life's Greatest Fool" to "Lady of the North" Clark brings a deceptively simple yet elegant humanity into the emotional texture of his work. He sings of life's extremes, fraught with anger and disappointment as "Some Misunderstanding," the sorrowful polarities of relationship in "Silver Phial," the thoughtful paradoxes of "The True One," and the complex unity that only the "Silver Raven" seems to know.

I begin to understand now why "No Other" is highly regarded. Gene Clark is a significant musical poet laureate of our generation; the quintessential Byrd. Like the archetypal cowboy balladeer of old, what appears unassuming or naive, is redeemed by his unschooled common sense, authenticity and genuine effort. Appreciation for the artistic achievement on this album will only increase, I suspect, through time. I'm sorry I have only these posthumous words to share.
