  • Nine Bagatelles: VII (...this endernight)
  • Nine Bagatelles: VIII (...recess in hell)
  • Nine Bagatelles: IX (...Circus Galop)
These are actual performances that helped Jon Nakamatsu win the gold medal at the Tenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. The pianist's personality is the most obvious element, as it should be. His Brahms sonata is outstanding, meeting the extravagant technical demands head-on while making music at every moment--a fervent, youthful performance completely appropriate to the music. In the Chopin, another technical showpiece, Nakamatsu also keeps the focus on the poetry of the music. His Stravinsky and Bolcom, while neither of them is in a "difficult" style, show a decided affinity for the 20th century. By the end of the disc, we are glad that such a major prize has gone to such an admirable musician. --Leslie Gerber

International music review Genius and Precision
An example to all classical musicians. Nothing more need be said.

International music review This CD reveals Jon Nakamatsu's solid music talent
I am a big fan of Mr. Nakamatsu, and I thoroughly enjoy his performance in this CD. You will be moved by his precise, dynamic and brilliant performance. The music pieces selected in this CD may not be as familiar to many of us as the ones in his other CD (Chopin), therefore, it may take a while to feel intimate with this CD... nonetheless, his solid music talent is crystal clear in his performance here.

International music review Nakamatsu CD won me over
Jon Nakamatsu is truly a great pianist. The selections on this CD just why he is the champion. I have listened to this CD while studying, on road trips, and when trying to relax. I highly recommend this CD. Of course, I may be a bit influenced by the fact that I was his student for 4 years, however, with an objective ear, I still highly recommend it.

International music review AUTHENTIC ALANIS
great single... Reminds me of seeing her LIVE.

International music review Excellent!
That I Would Be Good is a very touching song. Although the unplugged version doesn't quite live up to the Supposed Former Infatuation Version, it is still truly amazing. Would Not Come Reverb is the best version of that song ever. And Forgiven is not that bad as well. Defintely buy this single for Would Not Come if you already own the two albums.

International music review Great
If I could, i would give the album 4 1/2. But, i decided to give it 5. I think "That I Would Be Good" would have been good as a single, but the problem is, this is a live version. So, if you want the REAL version of That I Would Be Good, don't buy this, buy "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie". Would Not Come is EXCELLENT live, and is probably the best track on the single! Forgiven, I think, was another reason for the 4 1/2. Forgiven is an alright song, but i don't really like the live version. I Was Hoping is still really good live, the only problem being it is also on the So Pure single. Just so you know, this single is FULL of live songs, so if you just want normal recordings, you would be better off buying the album.

International music review one of the best new sounds from a awesome german artist
okay, i have to admit that i am german, but am currently living in nyc. i just love this band. seeed is one of the best german acts that i have ever heard. music from germany has never really been a hit and when i go through the german section in music stores i always see the stereotypical volk music.

no way, german music has since evolved! and it couldn't have gotten any better then this! seeed is badass ragga with german lyrics. a must have! also, i just want to add that germany has some great hip-hop.

International music review A Must have album
When I was backpacking europe this year, this album was THE most precious thing to come home with me.The fact that these boys are from Berlin yet produce a sound that is fresh, bright, sunny and feel good is amazing to me,since it is a town with little to NO reggae influence.Think of them as kind of a German Sublime with a twist.Plus hearing the German language backed up by that pure rasta beat is the most unique and inspiring sound I've heard in a long long time....YOU MUST HAVE THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!!

International music review A good cut off a fantastic CD
First off, I'm not German but I live in Germany (in the U.S. Army). I first heard this band on MTV. A video of the song "Dickes-B" off of their recently released CD "New Dubby Conquerors" was my introduction. If you're looking for the CD, good luck. It's been out for several months but so far, it's a no-show. If you can find it, buy it. It's great. The band is extremely talented and utilize numerous musical styles (reggae, dub, rock, soul) to create a unique and very listenable sound. The turntable work and bass lines are amazing. My wife & I especially like playing it whilst cruising down an Autobahn at 100+ MPH. This is one German group that we intend to see in concert. I hope they tour the states, as I'm sure that they could find a following there.

International music review A Real Talent!
Wow, the truth is Tommy is plainly talented! I bought his CD a month ago and simply love it! There is not a single song that I skip when I play the CD! Tommy writes the lyrics and the music, plays the guitar, does choruses and makes the musical arrangements. A true talent, unlike other puertoricans that are manufactured dolls, that perform a the songs and have a cute face. Tommy Torres is a master. I WOULDN'T THINK ABOUT IT TWICE IF I WERE YOU... BUY IT! :)

International music review Quality work here
I picked this album up after hearing the single "Como Olvidar" on the radio and I was thrilled to find that the other songs on this album were just as strong if not stronger than this hit. Mr. Torres' skills as a musician and songwriter are first rate. There is not a bad song on this album...no filler material here. (In fact, my LEAST favorite song is the very first one!) Some of the songs take a couple of listenings to get into (Penelope being a good example....by the way Tommy...is this an ode to Miss Cruz....tu eres mi LUZ....tu eres mi CRUZ?? I couldn't help but notice!). The chord changes are a bit confusing at first as is the melody, but after a few listenings, I was hooked. To me, that's what good songs are made of! And the songs "No me digas que no" and "Nunca imagine" are just plain beautiful. "Hoy te vas" and "Ella dice" join "Como Olvidar" as straight-forward, strong pop songs and "Tres de Abril" rounds out the album with a super-funky groove and some awesome guitar playing. I'm sold...my only regret now is that I have to wait for his next release! Great work Mr. Torres....thank you for the music!

International music reivew great new whitlams
I really enjoy listening to this album, as I feel it is different to other whitlams albums. The Guitar is featured more and adds a great touch to the songs. My personal favorite tracks are "Royal In The Afternoon" & "I Will Not Go Quietly", these songs are fun to listen to and have great lyrics.

    International music review Typical Whitlams
Tim Freedman delivers once again what weve come to expect of the Whitlams - an album full of mellow ballads and the occasional brighter tune. Some of their best work, I believe, are the more upbeat tunes like "Back into the Wild", as opposed to their classic semi-depressing songs like the Charlie series from Eternal Nightcap. "gone Surfing" and "Out The Back" are two songs perfect for a slack sunny afternoon lying on the grass. My personal favourite is the final song, "Ease of the Midnight Visit" which wraps up the main CD flawlessly.
Interestingly, perhaps the five best songs, in my opinion, were not included in the main CD, instead being relegated to the bonus CD. "Witness Protection Scheme" is a great song to chill to, whereas the final two are the more upbeat type I was talking about.
This is a great CD, but make sure you buy the one with the bonus CD to get five more gems.

International music review A Wonderful CD - Play It Over and Over
At first listening, I wasn't as impressed with "Torch the Moon" as with the Whitlam's previous album "Love This City". Having listened several times, the depth of lyrics and sheer power of much of the music on "Torch the Moon" has won me over. It's the best CD yet from the talented Tim Freedman.

The tracks range from the melancholy to the humorous. The title song is a moving insight into a suicidal mind. The emotional "Kate Kelly", perhaps the most powerful song on the album, is a reflection on the thoughts of the sister of Australia's most notorious bushranger after his execution and the death under police fire of her suspected lover, another of the Kelly gang. On the lighter side, "Gone Surfing" is an upbeat echo of the 1960s (and sounds a little like The Cruel Sea), whilst there are a number of quieter ballads, mostly about aspects of love.

The vocals are strong and backing singers fill out the sound in a number of tracks, much more than on previous Whitlams' albums. The instrumentation, especially some of the piano lines, ranges from the pretty to the dramatic. There's good use of lead guitar in parts, and wide variation in the types of rhythm featured on different songs.

All in all, a terrific album, one that will be played over and over. There are no dud tracks, and a couple that will get lots and lots of airplay, I suspect.

International music review Seting off the pop dance craze again
This song hit it big in 1998 into 1999. With some awsome dance songs including "volar" and "no te extrao yo" and some pointless pop tunes this album is worht those two songs. The other songs offer some great music that will make you move as well but they just didn't do it for me. I mostly like the high energy. But overall a good album for anybody who likes pop music and like to dance. DJ box also worked on this album (he is known for making some of Minervas remixes).

    International music reivew review 1/20/01
Im am a really big dance hall/dub fan. I found Whispering Lion's latest album very up lifting and easy to listen to. With so many releases that focus on negative stereo types and violence it was refreshing to hear something socially aware and pleasing to listen to. I also dj (mostly down-tempo, hip hop, dub) and will be looking for Whispering Lion on wax.

International music review Buy this disc!
All lovers of roots reggae should have this CD in their collection. The tracks are all very strong in message and groove. The interplay between the lead vocals and the female back-up singers brings to mind classic early Wailers tracks. This is music with an uplifting message. Whispering Lion's lyrics come from the heart and will touch your soul. You need to hear this amazing and under appreciated disc. You will not be disappointed. There is a follow-up CD nearing completion and from the advance buzz it appears to be even stronger, watch for it later this year. Much respect to the Whispering Lion!

International music review Great find! Highly suggest checking it out
Who says this is a whispering lion? While Zeitsoff's crafty lyrics and original vocal style seem to whisper messages of hope and the human spirt, the music underneath ROARS! I first discovered Whispering Lion back in 1986 and have been a devoted fan ever since! Forget what you've been programmed to listen to... Checkout TRIBUTE TO THE SPIRIT. If you pass this CD by, "don't blame your pain on me"

International music review I AGREE WITH MY COMPUEBLANO DRAMADOR2 100PCT
I KEEP SEARCHING FOR NEW "OLD" RECORDINGS OF THE ORIGINAL TRIO LOS PANCHOS. SO FAR I HAVE ALL THE TITLES YOU CARRY AND I DO NOT HESITATE IN RECOMMENDING ALL OF THEM. IN THEIR PEAK YEARS IN NYC AND IN MANY COUNTRIES THIS TRIO WAS CALLED "LA TRIOLOGIA PERFECTA DE AMERICA".

International music review good musical selection
Trio Los Panchos is very well represented in this CD through the variation of its different "primeras voces" (first voices). There is no doubt that Los Panchos is the best performers of the romantic "bolero"

International music review I love Los Panchos!
They're probably my favorite trio of all time. I highly recommend any of their CDs.
