A great performance for all tastes, but especially for those who love Bossa Nova. It is an especially interesting group with the master at the piano, accompanied by guitar, bass, cello, drums, flute, female and male voices.

Beautifully recorded and with the excitement of a live performance.

I purchased this album from the Amazon.com seller allthingsboss and when I got it in the Mail today the Jewel Case was completely Broken. and if I see a CD in a store and the Jewel Case is a little cracked I don't buy the album and further more I doubt the seller is going to reply to my message if you are going to buy this album don't buy it from the Amazon.com seller allthingsboss and I doubt he'll give me a replacement on this CD where I already opened it and when you send a CD in the Mail you don't use an airjacket envelope to Mail the CD you use a small box like the ones Amazon.com uses to send there CD's so if I were you I wouldn't order it from the Amazon.com seller allthingsboss

this album is not better than C.P. but pun has some descent tracks:watch those(best song),off wit his head, its so hard(first single),NY giants, and my turn(lyrical).Pun was probably high on these garabage tracks:we don't care(what was he thinking),my d**k(he didnt even rap on this song),leather face(wack hook and beat),100%(too comercial),laughing at you(has a nice beat but the flow lacks),and you was wrong(stupid but pun's part was nice).watch those was the only reason i bought the album.CP has better flow than yb.Pun,you was one of the greatest but you should of made more descent tracks on this.R.I.P.

A murder was committed here and it was Big Pun's memory that suffered the loss. Before I start understand that I thought Capital Punishment is one of the best albums of 1998 but there is something very fishy about this posthumous album. After a very stupid intro by Lord Sear, The album begins off with the track Watch Those which is pretty good(even though I do agree that the hook is suspect). Off With His Head(feat Prospect of Terror Squad) and New York Giants(feat MOP) and Leather Face are also dope tracks. Its So Hard(feat Donell Jones) and 100% were decent singles for the album and My Turn(where he takes a shot 50 cent) is also decent. The problem is that there are songs that should have never made it to disc. We Dont Care(feat Cuban Link), N**** S*** and You Was Wrong are all garbage. My D*** and Laughing At You are horrible attempts at comedy and Sunkist(who?) ruins what could have been a dope record with a suspect verse on Wrong Ones(plus the hook for that song sounds like it was put together on the spot). Ms Martin(Remy's solo joint) is not a bad track but it has no business being here! Bottom Line: Big Pun's Yeeeah Baby is the most suspect posthumous album of all time. Aside from a couple of good tracks, this "album" sounds like it put together slapdash in a couple of days. I know Big Pun is capable of much better work so I dont blame him for this posthumous release, I blame Loud Records.
Standout Tracks: WATCH THOSE, OFF WIT HIS HEAD, LEATHER FACE, NEW YORK GIANTS and MY TURN.

This CD is perfect if you want to remember the smash-hit Brazilian telenovela/soap opera "El Clon."

The engaging storylines around Maysa, Mel, Jade, Said, Dalva, Leo, Deusa, and all the rest are recalled through this sampling of songs:

I like many of the songs on the CD, but my absolute favourite has to be the show's theme, "Maktub."

If you're familiar with the show, THIS collection is the one to get.

This 2 CD collection of Mecano's greatest hits is a great way for new fans to get to know the band, but I find it a tad dissapointing for actual fans. It's very hard for a compilation like this one to actually include all of the fans favorites, they're usually more what the artist and/or the label think should be included. This case is no exception. While most of their best songs are in here, most of their earlier work was left out -- granted, the band acheived its greatness in its last four albums, but still, they should have included more tracks from 'Mecano' and '¿Dónde está el país de las hadas?'. Also, the new tracks are a mixed bag, while some are great ('Cuerpo y corazón', 'El club de los humildes' and 'Stereosexual') the rest are forgettable. Still, Mecano's music can not be denied, so you should buy this CD, otherwise, your collection will be incomplete.

--

This two CD collection is indispensable for the TRUE Mecano fans...It has all of the songs I remember hearing in my adolescent years; obviously some songs had to be left out, but the ones that are included are simply magnificent; Hijo de la Luna, Cruz de navajas,el 7 de Septiembre, No es serio este cementerio, but most of all, Naturaleza Muerta are to be enjoyed with all the senses; on that last song, one could almost taste the ocean's water...as is the case with Hawaii Bombay. This collection will certainly bring memories of when and where you were, exactly at the moment you heard each of these songs for the first time, it's that GOOD!!!

First let me state I barely speak Spanish, so when I listen to these songs I am only able to catch a word or a phrase that I understand.

It does not matter - the music is great, melodies have a lot of harmony, some are quite complex and unpredictable but once you "get" them, you would want to listen to them over and over.

Trust me - you do not have to understand these lyrics - the music moves you! Sanz is one of the greatest composers/performers ever - check out his performances on youtube. My favorite songs on this album - "Amiga Mia", "Aprendiz", "Toca para mi" - but the rest are just as great.

All of these songs were released in earlier albums but performed with less backround music and with little different twists on this "unplugged" version. Get it and enjoy!

Great!

The 1st time I saw Alejandro Sanz was when he performed with Destiny's Child on an awards show. I was blown away by his music and charm. The next day, I bought this album. Although I can't understand a word of spanish, the melodies and instrumentation are exceptional. Alejandro's voice is sensual and full of emotion. He is an excellent singer/songwriter. I purchased a later album, and once again, I was not disappointed. He only improves with age.

So if you are a War fan as I have been over the years this is a cd to add to your collection. It is easy to be critical of bands, but this band has proven over the years their ability to be one of the best.

I was only 6 years old when this album was made. I just discovered it in my 30's. I feel like I have good music taste. I listen to Rock, Jazz, Rap, Funk, Alternative, Classic Rock, R&B.. you name it. This album slid into my everyday listening (at night) like it was nothing. Really great. Really Raw. It moves like a burning cigarette its so smooth. It sounds almost like the band is set up in your living room it has so much soul. It doesn't sound current, but a glass of wine at night and this record go together so well you may think you're hangin out in a Lounge in Philly in the 70's. If you like funk, soul or jazz, this album is a Must Have.

Here we find Jerry and the gang trying to seize the momentum of the mega-selling lp's "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and "The Greatest Hits". War offer up a double lp (the first since 1973's live lp), One of new studio material. The other of older edited musicals reissued as "Platinum Jazz".

At first glance Platinum Jazz looks to be an extention of their Greatest Hits lp. Nothing could be further from the truth. While War do try to satisfy the old guard with the edited down hack jobs of sides 3 & 4. The newer material clearly shows War ready to take the plunge ala Brick's Dazz-disco/jazz.

War Is Coming and River Niger are worthy listens. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about the rest of this 1977 release. The title track is dull and predictable cafe yawn. While the single L.A.Sunshine begs you to turn it off after one minute just to avoid the monotony of it all. War are clearly out of their element here.

The born again attitude about getting high off sunshine fails to impress. Platinum Jazz finds War quite disengaged with the past (evident by trimming two minutes off Nappy Head) and looking towards an uncertain future.

FINALLY A DECENT SONY GORME REISSUE

Review Date: 2007-04-24
I was hesitant at purchasing this 2CD reissue, as so many previous Sony reissues rehash the lovely recordings with Trio Los Panchos, that they've been trampled to death. In this set, all of Eydie's Sony Latin recordings are covered, making this a definitive Best Of. Granted, you cannot have everything. The Spanish Version of "Blame It On The Bossa Nova" (Culpame De La Bossa Nova) is missing, and the packaging is not up to par (outside box, but no Jacket booklets or inserts for the CDs (same for a 3CD set done on Vikki Carr). The music is the star here, as it covers from 1964-1992, and all four Sony Latin releases. There are songs from Amor, More Amor, De Corazon De Corazon and Eso Es El Amor. Because the latter two albums are so hard to find on CD being out of print, it is nice to have remastered versions of some of these great tracks. The lovely duet with Roberto Carlos of Sentado A La Vera Del Camino is included, as is Mis Amores with Steve Lawrence from Eso Es El Amor.

For a complete set of the recordings with Trio Los Panchos, add the GL Release of Eydie's Amor and More Amor, a 2on1 album CD, to this great set. The Spanish "Blame It On The Bossa Nova" is available (but not sure if in print) on the Personalidad Series for Eydie Gorme Y Los Panchos (not the solo Eydie Gorme issue in the same series). This will probably have you at 95% in collecting Eydie's Sony Latin songs. Other GL releases include Eydie's other Latin recordings for other labels. GL is Steve and Eydie's own reissue label, as they own their own masters.

However you wish to handle your own Eydie Latin collection, this 2CD set by itself is a great start.

Recently, I remembered Tito and looked him up on Amazon and bought this and the Latin Roots CD. This CD sounds like it was recorded yesterday, the sound has been remastered so well. It is smooth and romantic. Tito has been called by some the Frank Sinatra of Puerto Rico and I agree. If you enjoy the crooners and are looking for something unusual, here it is.

El Gran Combo with their Salsa...always have a hit or more on any given album they put out. Their Salsa style is what I call "Happy Salsa".
Tracks, Si La Vez Por Ahi, Te Veo Nena and CD title track....are classic Gran Combo!

Get it!

I was genuinely and happily surprised to hear El Gran Combo back to old form. I can't remember the last record that put out "salsa gorda" (the piano-based, heavy-on-the-horns, and melodic style that inexplicably died in the 80s). Charlie Aponte sings with the band, rather than ahead of it, while Rafael Ithier's arrangements are tight and focused. This is not just the best record from EGC in over a decade, this could easily be the best salsa record in that time frame too.

Must Be Nice

to listen to masters of their craft present a flawless exemplar and consider it merely average.

A year ago I didn't know anything about El Gran Combo - yeah, I have a lot of catching up to do - it's great journey and it's gotta start somewhere.

This is a great somewhere to start: every note in its place, every beat, not too much, not too little. Perhaps they don't have the "fire" they once had back in the day, I don't know. I can collect the older ones as time goes by.
