Jill Scott's debut, Who Is Jill Scott?, is a luscious portrait of the artist as a grown woman. In R&B, black femininity has often been reduced to two dimensions: sex and materialism. But Scott lives in 3-D, and it shows in her voluptuous songwriting. She combines a beautiful voice with an extreme generosity of spirit, making her music a dreamy, soulful delight. Lizz Mendez Berry

You know who she is!
Who is Jill Scott?Ill be more than glad to make an attempth through this review at answering the question, Who is Jill Scott? Although I've personally never met her, her music depicts her to be a very soul oriented, lyrically motivated and creative artist. The production is definetly soul based, and her lyrics were poetical as usual. Jill differs than the typical singer in that her lyrics aren't the stereotypical "you stole my man heffer, Black men are no good, I want a rider" type theme. She is often supportive of men, and versatile on her first album. I would say the best or my favorite tracks are "Gettin in the Way", "Its Love", "The Way", "Honey Molasses", "A Long Walk", "Love Rain", and "Slowly Surely". I have so many favorites because the whole album is excellent!! I mean great!! I can literally play the whole album staight through. Top notch production, diversity in subject matter, strong singing, and poetry. Definitly classic material! Classic!
One of my favoritesHonestly I hate R&B, I just keep it around to set the mood. But Jill Scott, there is somethin' about her. All I gotta say is, if you love R&b, and your lookin for a female with class and personality. You cant go wrong with this. This averages 5 stars for a reason.

Artist: Bob Marley & The Wailers
Tracks:
- Is This Love
- No Woman, No Cry
- Could You Be Loved
- Three Little Birds
- Buffalo Soldier
- Get Up Stand Up
- Stir It Up
- One Love / People Get Ready
- I Shot The Sheriff
- Waiting In Vain
- Redemption Song
- Satisfy My Soul
- Exodus
- Jamming
Even as greatest hits packages go, this is an utter gem. Every song is inspired, in a class of its own, whether the real version of "I Shot the Sheriff," the hymnlike "No Woman, No Cry," or the sheer joy of "Jamming." Even allowing that Marley never wrote any bad material, then Legend is still the crème de la crème, the heart and soul of the Jamaican people packed into one five-inch compact disc. He was unique, and the message of this record, more than any other, is that he died far too soon. --Chris Nickson

Bob Marley's classic hits compilationLegend. A Bob Marley hits compilation.
INTRODUCTION:
Bob Marley. Over the years, he has reigned supreme as the ultimate name in reggae music. Despite passing away in the early eighties, his music remains consistently popular. And it isn't hard to see why, as it really does stand the test of time. Despite dying young, Marley's career contained a plethora of music, and as such, many compilations of his work have been released over the years. The most popular compilation of Marley's work, though, would have to be the Legend compilation, released in the middle of the eighties. Not only do many Marley fans hail this as his finest compilation, it has also become the best-selling reggae album of all time! So, how does the classic compilation measure up? Read on, and find out!
OVERVIEW:
Bob Marley's Legend compilation was release in the middle of the eighties, only a few years after his death. There are three major editions of the album available on CD - original vinyl album ported to CD, single-disc remastered edition with bonus tracks, and the two CD Deluxe Edition version with bonus tracks. Regardless of which version you buy, all versions have the following tracks: Is This Love, No Woman No Cry (Live), Could You Be Loved, Three Little Birds, Buffalo Soldier, Get Up Stand Up, Stir It Up, One Love / People Get Ready, I Shot The Sheriff, Waiting In Vain, Redemption Song, Satisfy My Soul and Jamming.
REVIEW:
Bob Marley has a LOT of compilations, no questions asked. None of these compilations are bad, by any means. In fact, every one of them seems to succeed in areas that others don't. Legend is the best-known of all of Marley's compilations, and it isn't hard to see why. It's a single-disc, affordable compilation that hits all of the high points of Marley's career. This is reggae at its very best and most accessible. Let's take a look at the different versions of the compilations, and see what sets each one apart from the others:
-ORIGINAL VINYL ALBUM PORTED TO CD:
This release is exactly what it says it is. It's the original album that people know and love from the vinyl days, ported onto a CD format. As such, it features no bonus tracks of any kind. It also means that Exodus and Stir It Up are the shorter, edited single versions, just as they appeared on the vinyl. This version of the album on CD seems to be out of print these days, which is no big loss, since the new versions are better.
-SINGLE-DISC REMASTER:
This is a single-disc remastered version of Legend. It features better sound quality than earlier editions of the album, as well as expanded liner notes. Likewise, it replaces the edited, shorter single versions of Exodus and Stir It Up with the original, full-length album version. Also notable is the inclusion of two bonus tracks, Easy Skanking and Punky Reggae Party. This new version of the album is a worthwhile improvement over the original vinyl port.
-DELUXE EDITION:
This is exactly the same as the single-disc remaster, right down to the same bonus tracks and song versions being used. However, like other compact discs in the Deluxe Edition series, it includes a second disc, filled with bonus material. In the case of Legend, that bonus material is remixes of tracks from the compilation. Since most of these remixes came from rare twelve inch singles, they are EXTREMELY hard to come by on CD outside of this collection. That said, if you're a big-time Bob Marley fan, having these rare mixes together will be reason alone to purchase this version of Legend.
OVERALL:
No matter which version of Legend you buy, it is an excellent compilation that serves as a damn fine overview of Bob Marley's career. If you're just the casual Bob Marley fan who wants an affordable, single-disc overview of his career, you have come to the right place. Every Bob Marley compilation is good, but this is the one that constantly gets praised by fans and critics alike, and with good reason. If you're a casual fan or just someone who is seeking an affordable yet effective introduction to the music of Marley, this is just what you need. Highly recommended!
EDITION NOTES:
The more recent releases of this compilation remain readily available in stores, obviously due in no small part to the fact that this is the best-selling reggae album of all time, as well as a widely-praised collection. If you want to buy it, you're really not going to have any trouble hunting it down.

you should probably own thisChances are, if you have heard a Bob Marley and the Wailers cd playing it is probably Legend. This set is a nice casual introduction to the band that started the worldwide reggae movement. it was released in 1984 3 years after Bob Marley died, and includes many hits that you are probably familiar with. Songs from all the albums are not included here which is the only downfall of this disc. The booklet that comes with the cd is a good way to learn about this legendary man and his band the Wailers. The Wailers are one of the most talented groups of musicians ever, and the instrumentation and variety on this disc proves it.

Not Regina's best workI love Regina Belle, but comparing Lazy Afternoon (#3), Believe In Me (#2), Stay With Me (#4), All By Myself (#5), Reaching Back (#1) and Passion (#6) to this CD, it would have to rank Believe in Me (#7) last on the list. Her vocals are strong but the material are predictable boring R&B tunes. This is the only one of her CDs that is not on heavy rotation on my CD player or computer.
I am such a huge fan of Regina and I cannot wait for the followup to Lazy Afternoon.

Another beautiful cd of hers @}->---Regina Belle is one of my all time favourite female R&B singers. She's so talented and it shows through this cd. It's beautiful. I really do love all of these songs although four really stand out. I love Don't Wanna Go Home, Let Me Hold You, Take My Time and What If. This is a cd that you can listen to over and over again without tiring of it. She's got a voice like an angel and if you are an R&B fan, you should get this for your collection because it's fantastic and very soulful. I love it.
Unmatched vocal artistry !Super vocal diva Regina Belle brings back the long forgotten essense of Soul/Jazz with 'This Is Regina',a collection of soul-spiked grooves that touch some hefty jazzy hooks and return to mainstream.
Partnering with legendary songwriter/producer Barry Eastmond - who crafted some of thes new jazzy-lounge nocturnes specially to showcase Regina's unparalleled vocal skills - Regina Belle swaggers with a smouldering,slow-burning passion and intensity.
'Oooh Boy' and 'Johnny's Back'alone are reasons enough why this CD should be a part of your pocket even if you're a few quarters short after the splurge....
'Take Your Time' and "Someone Who Neeeds Me" are two other articulate , stylized tracks, which sit comfortably
in the sheer range and expression of this album's tonal gradations.
Regina's 'This Is Regina',to summarize,is an original and much needed punch in the fluffy omelette of good pop.
Highly recommended !!

Perhaps R. Kelly's brushes with the law have caused him to turn down his love light, since his seventh album Chocolate Factory takes scrupulous pains to show an idealized high-minded face of love, eschewing his usual steamy cocktail of raunchy lust and replacing it with a sweet, winsome romanticism. "I'll Never Leave," is a wistful valentine, while "The Heart of a Woman," is embarrassingly empathetic to the plight of the feminine kind and is hardly the kind of fare that one expects from Marvin Gaye's heir apparent. Despite his real life racy escapades, Kelly is at his best musically when he's an unrepentant bad boy but he doesn't even show any grit until "Been Around the World," his confessional duet with a rasping Ja Rule, the fretful bluesy "You Made Me Love You," and "Ignition," a paean to parking. Despite "Ignition"s first line, "Girl, please let me stick my key in your ignition, babe" it's rather tame by the standards Kelly has set on his earlier discs. "Chocolate Factory" also includes 6 bonus tracks from Loveland the album that was slated for a 2002 release, but was ostensibly shelved after it was rampantly bootlegged on the Internet. Despite the disc's soft focus, Kelly is at the height of his vocal powers, and once he weans himself from the gooey sentimentality and returns to his persona of a smooth seductive operator he'll once again be an artist to be reckoned with. --Jaan Uhelszki

R. KELLY AT THE TOP OF HIS GAME.....Despite recent and persistent legal troubles, R. Kelly proves once again that he is still at the top of his game. Longtime fans will compare this album to 12 Play---full of tracks with great beats, and fabulous lyrical content. The heat is there also--but there are signs of R becoming more muscially mature and willing to test the limits of his fans. "Imagine That" experiments with electric guitars and has a rock-like sound Kelly fans aren't used to hearing from him, but he of course makes it work. R. Kelly travels from one musical extreme to the other--from tracks reminiscent of rock bands to the heady, romantic, sexy tracks that he's best known for.
Despite the scandals, R shows that he is still quite capable of turning out a quality product.

Who dat is..........da Piped Piper of R & B!!!I had this cd since the first day it came out, but I never thought to write a review until now.
Well check this out!!! This cd is off da chain. R. Kelly out does himself again. Can't nobody touch this album, nobody.
From the first cut, the title track Chocolate Factory, just draws you in. Then you have to Step In The Name of Love. When you hear R. tell you to shut up that he'll never leave, oh it's on then. Track, after track, after track, is just intoxicating.
This man is a Lyrical Genius. I like a lot of other male artists, but I'm sorry when it comes to writing, producing, singing and performing R. Kelly's got it hands down. He is definitely the R. in R & B...ya heard!!!

Songs in the Key of Life (1976) was the highest high point of Stevie Wonder's career. More sprawling than Innervisions and Talking Book, this two-LP-plus-EP was also less of a consistent stunner than either of those masterworks. That Songs retains an enormous amount of visionary relevance, though, is demonstrated not only in Coolio's borrowing of "Pastime Paradise" as a template for "Gangsta's Paradise," but in the cold-as-ice synthesized string quartet of "Village Ghetto Land." This is Stevie, so naturally that cut's anger is balanced by the ultra-buoyant "I Wish," "Sir Duke," and "Another Star." The 2000 reissue boasts radically improved remastered sound. --Rickey Wright
Average review score:

Stevie's Double Crowning Achievement!I'm one of those reviewers that rarely rates music that hasn't touched me in one way or another. So when I felt that I wanted to write a review for a Stevie Wonder album, I ended up struggling over which of his great releases I should review. I love ALL of his mid-seventies releases....most notably, "Innervisions", "Fullfillingness...", and, of course, "Songs...". I guess I finally decided to 'tackle' this one based on its historical significance to the art of Music. For one, Stevie was "coming into his own" as far as musical expression and social commentary within his songs. Other than the great Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye, Stevie was at the forefront of writing about the joys, pains, positives and negatives of Human exsistance on Earth...and he did it very well. Songs such as "Village Ghetto Land", "Pastime Paradise", "Saturn" and "Have a Talk with God" among others, were as powerful 'messages' one could experience through a set of speakers. Secondly, He was able to finally gain TOTAL control of his musical vision from Motown and Berry Gordy....even more so than Marvin had done with "Whats Going On"...and this TOTAL control shows most prevelant on "Songs" than any previous release leading up to this one(IMO). There's certainly a little bit of everything on "Songs"---- the joy of life on "Isn't She Lovely"; black man's contributions to evolution in "Black Man"; World Love and Peace in "I am Singing"; the joys and pains of childhood in "I Wish"; Spiritual guidance in "Have a talk with God"; Desperation in the World's Ghettos in "Village Ghetto Land" , and even some "Props" to Mr. Ellington in "Sir Duke". One could literally go on like this for every song on this double album....Yes, very moving, significant statements indeed! As for the actual music and musicians, they are "all over the board" here (and Stevie certainly plays his share of the instruments, however, not as exstinsively as past albums). Every musician involved in "Songs" played exactly what each track called for, and, at the same time, still managed to put their 'mark' on these great cuts. The listener will be happy to find mellow, introspective songs...Upbeat, funky rockers...Spanish-tinged music....and even Stevie's brand of Fushion (Contusion)... Overall, A wonderful assortment of musical styles and genres mixed into one of the most important double LPs ever released. As a closing note, I am somewhat of a new-comer to this great artist, and yes, I am white. However, I feel this is one of a handful of artists that crosses/bridges ALL ethnic groups...weather black, white, yellow, or red. Please don't let the color of your skin (or Stevie's) stop you from experiencing some of the most important 'Art' ever produced. Strongly recommended, along with any other releases from this Genius!
An Album that deserves all the acollades it's been givenThis album has been ranked highly in VH1 polls and Rolling Stone Polls time after time and it really deserves it.....
Is there any other album post 1975 that was this commercially successful and yet at the same time so socially conscious...????? And there's a little something in here for everyone... my favorite track being the jazz/funk/salsa samba of "Summer Soft."
Buy this album now and own a piece of musical history!!!

All-Time GreatStevie Wonder was and continues to be a once every few generations kind of genius!!!
There's not enough words in the English language to appropriately articulate how GREAT he is as a musician and how OUT OF THIS WORLD "Songs in the Key of Life" remains.
--Best R&B album ever made in history
--Best soul album ever made in history
--Best double-disc album set ever made in history
***Strong candidate for one of the greatest albums ever made by any artist, anywhere, anytime and any place in history
If you're black, white, Puerto Rican or Asian, young, old, straight, gay, religious, secular, a music lover, music hater or just plain music deprived, this album's for you!!!!
Can't say enough.
Deserving of 10 stars!!!
I'd put this album up there against any of the best of Michael Jackson, James Brown, Whitney Houston, the Beatles, the Temptations, Prince, Little Richard, Louis Armstrong, MaDonna, Boyz II Men, Elvis, U2, the Rolling Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley or ANY of the other all-time greats I might've missed.
Even better than "Innervisions" for those Stevie Wonder diehards.

She has already jammed with Gladys Knight in Las Vegas, eloped with influential R&B mogul R. Kelly, and scored two platinum albums--and she's just barely graduated from high school. No, she is not your average teenager, nor is she just another pretty soul singer. On One in a Million, Aaliyah expands on the smooth grooves of her massively successful debut album Age Ain't Nothing but a Number, and shows that all the life experiences have not gone to waste. The production and songwriting talents of Tim 'Timbaland' Mosley and rapper Missy Elliot give the songs on One In A Million a seductive edge with laidback grooves and cool hip-hop licks; but what really makes this album rise above is the full-grown singer at the controls. On the title track, a magical ballad, Aaliyah casts a cool spell with layered voices and a smoky delivery. With the assistance of Slick Rick, she turns Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up" into a funky hip-hop jam for the end of the millennium. While with "4 Page Letter," one of the album's high points, she intricately details the end of love affair. Artists twice her age could only hope to create a work of such clarity and resonance. --Aidin Vaziri

DisappointedI bought this CD and the songs are what I expected, however, it's copy protected and you can't download the songs into your IPOD. Buyer Beware. It'll only work on CD players...
Second To NoneThe follow-up album, One In A Million, after the self-titled debut completely controlled by mentor R. Kelly, this album introduces a fresh new sound with a more diverse elements to create this LP. Nine of the seventeen songs found on this album were produced by Timbaland and written by Missy Elliott that jump start this album off with "Beats 4 Da Streets (Intro)", "Hot Like Fire" and the title track for the off-beat percussion with a more Hip-Hop / rap feel. "A Girl Like You" featuring Treach is a laid back track with a subtle sample to mesh with the mellow groove. The standout arrangement and guitar licks made "If Your Girl Only Knew" strong enough to be a single. Aaliyah's rendition of The Isley Brothers' "Choosey Lover" is as good as the original, but she had a twist for the closing with an entirely different beat to close the song for the old school and new school feel on to Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up" featuring Slick Rick. "4 Page Letter" is very thoughtful and witty with its subject as a mid-tempo et. al love song. The following three songs are all mellow highlighting Aaliyah's style and moves to possibly dance to. The true love / slow songs are "Never Givin' Up" featuring Tavarius Polk as her counterpart in love and "The One I Gave My Heart To" to complete this album. For its day in time, One In A Million was the one in a million that pressed the envelope for that same old R&B and soul. R.I.P.
awesome CDI remember enjoying this album back in the 8th grade. The beats were fresh and original for r&b/hip hop and was the new sound at the time. Also there are samples of marvin gaye and isley brothers throughout this CD which gives her a soulful sound. The ballads are beautiful as well and her voice so calm and pretty. I remember every girl in the 8th and 9th grade wanted to look like her.

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is arguably the best quasi-solo Wu-Tang album (Ghostface Killah literally gets equal billing). Most of contemporary hip-hop's Mafioso-inspired themes and MC street aliases are inspired by the "Wu-Gambinos" motif introduced on this 18-cut LP. As the Wu's preeminent storyteller, Raekwon (a.k.a. "The Chef") paints Technicolor Kool G Rap-style pictures of high-stakes drug trafficking on "Criminology," and then mixes his street sensibility with 5% Nation of Islam reasoning on "Knowledge God." This album is loaded with RZA's finest production moments, as he samples a barrage of kung-fu flick sound bites, plays discordant keyboards on "Incarcerated Scarfaces," and utilizes some eerie female vocals on "Rainy Dayz." Rae's timeless duet with Nas on "Verbal Intercourse" further cements the album's status as one of the best of all time. --Dalton Higgins
Average review score:

Classic unlike his other...Reakwon's "only built 4 cuban linx" is a classic but his other ablums after this one ? Is plain garbage... Ice cream still my favorite track on this masterpiece. Not for people that think g unit is "tight" just for strictly true heads.
hiphop at it's finest! This is my second favorite rap record of all time. The production on this record is maybe the best ever heard. The beats & lyrics are flawless. RZA was at his best and you can hear it. The whole sounds like a perfect soundtrack of some heated gangster movie. This record is neccessary in any record collection and a testimony of how exciting and dope hiphop still sounded in the early 90's.
tighest wu tang jewelzWhen I think about Only Built 4 Cuban Linx album from Raekwon, I knew it was the dopest album in Wu-History ever to bring another jewel in the Wu-Tang Clan. I never thought that it would be a pleasure to bring Rae and Ghost together. Raekwon reaches out to children who were doing drugs, trying to listen to brothers that were locked up in prison doing time and years behind in their jail cells and taught them how to believe in their hearts they can see the light, eat their vitamins and not trying to get involved with rival gangs, talking about teen pregnancies, and how to make changes in children's lives. Raekwon has street credibilities, his lyrics are sharp like a razor blade, he is a good member and a coach, just like other rappers some are mostly phony that's why Raekwon talks about the life he has while he was growing up in the projects, his struggle throughtout the Universe of Allah. Also, this album is 100% of raw talents, all I can say it just to keep up the good work and don't put yourself in a position where them fake cross artists trying to take your shine away and don't make any mistakes on your next album with Ghost called R.A.G.U.(Rae and Ghost Uniting).
you need this cd..she brings it well.
