While watching this video it all came back to me why I had a crush on MJ. While watching "I just can't stop" I remembered being jealous of the singer that accompanied Michael. I wanted to be her, thigh high boots and all...I'm still perplexed by my past infatuation with the man in the mirror but apparently most of the women and some of the men at the concert felt the same....wait this is a review of the concert...it's theatrical, entertaining and it proves why countless people watched this when it aired on cable. Some have said that he appears to be lip-syncing, I think this is somewhat true. I think that Michael is singing over a voice track because there are multiple times in which it appears as if he is singing live. I think that this can account for the slight echo of his voice. It's MJ and the track at the same time. Lip-syncing or not it's a darn good show, so watch it anyway.

why havent you got this

I was a fan of Michael Jackson when I was young, I had several of his albums, and I loved it. In my teen years I faded out of his music, but have been getting back into it recently. I never had this video as a child, but I'm glad to have it now. The show it approx. 2 hours long, and it's a great 2 hours. There are several costume changes, wonderful classic MJ dancing (which means incredible) and even some awesome sets. Since this video was recorded in 1992 you get to go back and remember Michael when he was at a high point of fame. Now having him with all the sex stuff and how weird he has become known for, it's such a change to see him back then. The video is complete with frantic fans, crying fans, and fainting fans! It is kind of scary to watch girls crying their eyes out over the very appearance of Michael, and fainting! There is a one second part where within the first two songs you see a girl who has fainted and a security guard is slapping her on the face repeatedly, trying to wake her up, but it doesn't work. You have to feel a bit bad for these fans because they go to a concert, and don't make in 2 songs in before they faint, and miss the rest of the concert! At one point you see an amazing split-second switch as a girl is taken from the crowd and guided up to have Michael sing to her and she is in total awe and peaceful and hugging Michael and all is safe, then the guards try to take her away and in a split second she goes from peaceful, to frantic! Aside from the fan shots though it really is an amazing performance, the ending is a little long as a crew is brought on stage to put Michael in some sort of jet pack so he can fly off the stage. It takes several minutes and kind of slows down what could be a really cool ending.

I saw this concert many years ago, and still feel it is THE BEST concert that I ever seen. I was looking to purchase this, so that I can
enjoy the King Of Pop at the apex of his career, which sadly ended on
June 25 with his untimely death. For all of fans that stayed true to Michael in spite of the unkind publicity, if you haven't seen this concert
you have really missed out. I cannot praise it enough.
You were a musical genius and will be missed by all your beloved fans

Pop quiz:

* What words complete the lyric, "Could you find me? Would you kiss my eyes? To lay me down in silence easy, to be ___ ___"?
* How old is the girl addressed in the song "Cyprus Avenue"?
* What does the singer of "Slim Slow Slider" know is happening to the subject of the song?

If you cannot answer at least two of those three questions, do not pass Go, do not collect $200, and do not buy this DVD... go directly to Astral Weeks (Van Morrison, CD) and become familiar with one of the greatest albums of all time.

This is a charming concert, but it is not essential, and it will not make sense if you don't already know the album from which it comes. Van and his musicians riff on the original, but you have to know the material on which they are riffing before it can speak to you.

That said, if you already know and love Van Morrison and Astral Weeks, you will love this concert. The Man is having a lot of fun with some really great songs, and it's a joy to watch him enjoying them.

To say that this concert is great would be a huge understatement. Before buying, I read through many reviews at amazon after one or two reviewers commented on the audience's participation (singing along with Stevie too much). Needless to say, I'm glad I did as so many other reviews suggested and purchased this dvd. Stevie is amazing and his accompanying band and singers were great too. I loved every minute of this show (watched it at least 3 or 4 times since I bought it)from start to finish. I cannot say much without repeating what many have already stated, but if you're a fan of Stevie Wonder or have even so much as a remote interest in his music, I would definitely recommend this concert.

The picture and sound quality is very nice and like the audience members at the show, I couldn't help but find myself singing along and enjoying the music. It's a really good show to have a great time in the comfort of your home with the surround sound turned up. As always, amazon was right on schedule with the delivery and the goods arrived in top shape.
Long story short: I was highly entertained and amazed by this concert. It was worth every penny!

Bought the DVD last week and absolutely love it! Have read all the other reviews and the participation from the audience not a problem for me. Stevie also sounds the same from 30+ years ago...unlike other singers who are bad LIVE in concert as the magic of recording studios make them sound good. Enjoyed the first half of the DVD...but the best part comes after Aisha Morris' (his daughter) song "I'm Gonna Laugh You Right Out Of My Life" and has her Dad's singing genes. I played "Songs In The Key Of Life" every day for years when it came out so am partial to those songs...especially my favorite "As"...which he sings in the second half of the DVD but wish a little bit longer version. Buy the DVD for his early and/or later songs as all are awesome!

this album is a waste of everything that was used to make the disc and booklet and case, the Jacksons do none of there greatest hits and the audio sounds like crap, the band was too old when this was recorded becuase all the band members loose there voice right in the middle of the concert, and from there to the end they can't sing worth crap, the Jacksons all look like Homo's on the cover like they took there pictures in the worst place they could have. I don't think I need to say anything else

From the opening pounding of the drums, laced with striking horn riffs and the chant "Can You Feel It"?, the Jacksons break into a high-powered, high-energy performance that captures them in rare form. This cd is still hot till this day, because no other group had a front man like Michael Jackson

Being a musician, I really get off on live performances that are well done. The Jacksons deliver on this live set, about as comparable to their "Goin Back to Indiana" live set. If only Jermaine had been on this set, it would've been a phenomenal effort. But don't let that statement take anything away from how good this cd is.

Michael was really coming into his own at this point, having released the successful "Off The Wall" album in 1979. His trademark vocals became apparent, as he gave a flurry of "He-he's" "Wooo's"

I enjoy every song on this cd, but the truncated medley of their very first hit singles really didn't do it for me. I hate medley's, and feel they should be outlawed, because you lose the experience of having a song done in it's entirety. Ben, one of Michael's early hits was not medlized, and the performance Michael does on this song is extraordinary.

A real funky joint on here is, "HeartBreak Hotel". Tito's axe is wailing on the one through the whole piece. His guitar was clean, clear and precise as only Tito would have it. Dude can play, so I can only imagine how dynamic all of this would've been hearing Jermaine on the bass. The drummer, Jonathan Moffett is real good on this set as well.

After they whip through the medley, the Jacksons regroup, and let Michael break off into his "Off The Wall" groove. "Rock With You" was a very good choice to come back on, as the Jacksons took advantage of a little crowd chorus joining, and Michael gives 'em his patented "He-He" and they dazzle the rest of the way.

After RWY, the Jacksons go back/forth doing a cut from their collective stuff, and then give the reigns back to Michael doing Off The Wall stuff. They close the set out with "Shake Your Body Down To The Ground" and finish off in grand style.

This cd showcased the Jacksons live talent, and was a precursor to the phenomenal live shows that Michael would perform, on his was to being the Greatest Entertainer that ever lived. Second to None!

Give this performance 100 stars. To Michael, and the Jacksons, "I Love You". Michael rest in peace, we were all blessed to experience your creativity, energy, charisma, showmanship, dedication, and love. May God Bless & Keep You 4 Ever.

It's so hard losing someone so special. I'm celebrating Michael's life by listening to his music, and just can't believe this has happenned. I know I'll shed plenty of tears over this, but right now I just want to relive the magic, and be so proud of what he has left us all.

God Bless Joseph and Katherine Jackson, and the entire Jackson Family. Your lives has brought a lot of joy into my life, and that I'm so thankful to have experienced.

MJ 4 Ever!

I think this DVD collection is great though when Pete is talking about when Keith passed out at the Cowpalace in SF, we don't see the footage that was used with the VHS release, thankfully I have kept mine. I don't like the idea that the Tanglewood footage was not realsed here, but it can be purchased from various bootleggers. I'm glad we have the Rockpalast footage with Don't Let Go the Coat, an excellent song that rarely gets played. This collection is alomst like the first VHS version of the Kid Are Alright, that was serverly edited from the theatrical release. All in all a good show.

This is a BARGAIN! Sound is improved as well.

The graphics on this DVD set are better than the original. Nice version of WGFA from Shea '82.
The entire Essen '81 show is here in 5.1 sound. Better than the crummy bootleg out there. Why would a Who fan not want this at so low a price? Its better than the original in every way. The only thing missing is Tanglewood 70 ...but who cares, if you have the original...you have it. Plus there are enough shows from the 69/70 era out there anyway.
I would pay 16.99 for just the remastered 5.1 Essen show alone. Everything else is just a bonus. People were paying 50 dollars (and up) on Ebay just for the used original disc........ why not pay 16.99 and get more!?
People wanted a re-release... here it is...buy it. Enough complaining.

Very good WHO DVD release

This is a great buy - I got mine for less than $17. Yes, the Tanglewood 1970 footage is missing, which is a bummer, but I understand that The Who and their management didn't want to pursue the private collector (Bill Graham's family?) who owned the original footage that was used in the 1994 VHS version. The sound, overall, is pretty good on this release. The 1975 Cleveland track, "Dreaming From The Waist," looks muddier on this new DVD than what I remember on the VHS version, but overall, it's a pretty good buy. A strange version of "Won't Get Fooled Again" from Shea 1982, where Daltrey seems uncharacteristically subdued on the stage. After Kenney Jones' drum break near the end, Pete and Roger seem to come alive. Pete does look strange on this segment - smoking onstage, wearing two (!) belts and a New Wave hair-do, but does play some pretty cool guitar on his Schecter Tele. One thing I didn't notice so much back in 1994 was how little John Entwistle is seen in these clips. Charlton does an OK job of showing him, and the Chicago 1979 footage shows John some. Thankfully, we see him on the Rockpalast 1981 disc. Pete's guitar volume seems low on the 1981 show opener, "Substitute," but kicks in a little louder by the second song. Rabbit seems to overplay just a pinch on the 1981 concert disc, which is kind of unlike him. I always thought he was a good fit, but his keys do get in the way of Pete and Entwistle on "Substitute" from the Rockpalast show. The picture quality of Rockpalast is pretty good - not as bad as the UK reviewers are claiming it to be, and Entwistle's bass can be heard (kind of unlike the 1989 and 1996 concert DVDs)

Probably stick with the original

Im a who freak,a wholigan if you will,i have to buy everything, and have done for the last 25 years, and again, with who releases of late, this is a missed oppertunity.
I loved the original release of both the vhs/dvd version of this, and always found it a great companion piece to "the kids are alright" many will argue that there is too much kenney jones on this dvd,but this is not the problem here, after all,you cant pretend the who finished when keith died, cos they didnt,if you believe that, stick with the kids are alright, and stop whinning.
No,the problem here is the severe butchery of the previous release, and the claim that its remastered, well if it is,i must be changing into stevie wonder, cos i cant see it,and the claim that its in 5.1,some of it is,some of it is not,in fact, the best sound on the dvd,are the menus, which are studio tracks anyways, that aint and never have been on the dvd.
On the plus side, you can skip to charlton(which most fans have a unofficial version of anyway)a live version of WGFA from 1982(why not put a pro shot of pontaic on there instead?)a new entwistle(albeit brief)unseen interview from around 94,im guessing. Also, the packaging is very very nice, informative booklet(like the video version, but with better pictures, and more depth)and a nice slipcase box to house the fold out dvd.
As you may know, the tanglewood 1970 bits are missing(most true collectors have this)and thats a darn shame.
Well, the final decision is up to you,but if you are a casual collector,id say hunt down the original release,if you are a hardcore collector, chances are you have most of the stuff anyway, and keep your original.
Its getting to the point when i may just stop buying these new releases from this once amazing band.
but i probably wont.
but i might.
Yeah, lets talk about getting fooled again.

Be forwarned that the three 1970 Tanglewood songs from the original release, possibly the best footage on the whole thing, have been omitted from this new version. And the footage of Keith Moon passed out at the 1973 Cow Palace show has been removed. Also, two of the three "new" songs on the first disc were already on the recently released Kilburn DVD set. For many, however, the Rockpalast disc alone will be worth the price.

Two stars for the first disc, four for the second.

I agree with all the negative reviews: save your money! As a Diana Ross fan since her days as a Primette, I am mystified that there has never been an official release of any of her solo concerts (Central Park anyone?) or the many great shows she did with the Supremes (the final concert at the Frontier Hotel?). What gives, Diana? Berry? Whoever owns the Motown catalog these days? Having collected this concert in every format that it has appeared in since VHS, I can say with complete confidence that this DVD is the WORST; it's so awful that it might as well be Freddie Poole on the stage. The laser disc (remember those?) has the best version of this concert and there is a Brazilian all-region DVD that's almost as good. Keep moving and happy hunting!

This is a DVD from the early 80's in new packaging. Like many other fans I already have this DVD from a number of years ago.

Diana Ross does such fantastic concerts now in the 2000's and I would be the first in line to buy a full price DVD of one her current shows.

Nevertheless, this is a great DVD showcasing Diana's 1980's shows.

I agree that the quality of this DVD is not up to high definition standards, but the quality is no worse than the original VHS version, which I also own and still play. So for me to have this concert on DVD gets the 5 star rating alone. When I play it on my portable DVD player and use my MP3 earbuds, the sound is amazing! And you can't beat the price. Maybe one day we'll see a remastered crystal clear version, but, for me, this will suffice. Plus "The Boss" is one of my favorite Diana Ross releases and this show is loaded with songs from that album.

Huge disappointment

I understand that this concert was recorded thirty years ago, so I was not expecting a brand new, never-before-seen show. However, although one reviewer here referred to this new DVD issue as "remastered," I see no evidence of that at all. It looks like an old VHS recording that has been transferred to DVD and shows all the wear-and-tear of those thirty years. What I had expected was a sharper picture and higher quality sound, but this product does not deliver that. It is grainy and muddy and is a disservice to the artist and the audience.

Daryl Hall and John Oates are better these days -- richer and more soulful -- than ever! This disk in blu-ray expresses what this great band does and the joy felt by their live audiences.

If you are into Hall & Oates, buy this DVD in Blu-Ray. The concert itself is excellent and the sound is in true 7.1. Sounds totally awesome!

First things first: The performance on this disc is fantastic. Any H&O fan is going to love it. It's been thirty years, and their voices have mellowed, but not weakened. They always had impeccable harmonies, and that's still very much true. From an instrumental perspective, the acoustic nature of the performance allows for some really neat things, arrangement-wise. They've updated the arrangements of some of their classics with great results.

Anyone who is familiar with Daryl Hall's monthly webcast, Live From Daryl's House (http://www.livefromdarylshouse.com) will be familiar with the format of the performance and the players. In fact, at times this concert feels more like an episode of LFDH with special guest John Oates. Daryl has always been the frontman and featured player, but John has such a beautiful, mellow voice, I found myself wishing they had featured him more often (check out the most recent episode of LFDH where John was a guest...his tracks are beautiful). After 30-something years, there's still quite a bit of magic left in these two. I just wish they would give us some new stuff.

For as terrific as the music and performance are, whoever edited the video of the performance should be ashamed of themselves, tested for drugs, banned from ever using editing equipment again...take your pick. There are multiple instances during every song where the audio and video just DO NOT SYNC UP. These aren't artistic edits either...the video is just slightly ahead or behind the audio. It feels like there was no time track for them to use to match up the audio and video. The band would have been better served using the same crew that does the webcasts. If they did use the same crew, then they were waaaay off their game on this one. What makes it frustrating is that as fans, we've waited for ages for a new DVD release, and errors like these take away some of the lustre of the disc.

Please don't get me wrong. I'm still very happy with this purchase. It's just that the video issues keep this from being perfect. Even a casual H&O fan is going to love this disc. This performance serves notice that they've still got "it", and hopefully this will lead to some fresh material from them in the future.

One of the best R&B concerts of it's kind. The acts were entertaining, freash and full of energy. It's not often you get to see the O'Jays on stage and they do not disappoint. You really can't go wrong if your a lover of R&B classics. I would highly reccomend it.

And to have music like this representing my hometown. Understandably, some of the vocals here aren't on a par with the original recordings, but the best gauge of the quality of Gamble and Huff's music is that it doesn't sound dated 35 years after it was created.

The only disappointment for me was that there wasn't more concert footage included (The Intruders are conspicuously missing). Even that is partially made up for by the inclusion of a 40 minute plus mini-documentary on the making of the DVD.

What can I say ? : Phillysound rules!!

I buy al lot of "american" dvd's because in Europe these dvd's are not for sale. So everytime it's a bit of a surprise what you get. This dvd is amazing. The Sound and the performances of the O'Jays and Harold melvin make this dvd sparkling and takes you back to the seventies. My wish is to see those groups for once in my life. I hope they will come to Europe one of thes days!!!

I got a glimpse of this concert on PBS a few weeks ago and couldn't wait to purchase the DVD. This is the music I grew up on. Man! the music took me way back in the day, to those basement parties. I thought the production was great, the TSOP orchestra did a magnificient job and the sound quality was great. The best performance, in my book was by "The Mighty O'jays". They definitely brought the house down with a mini O'jays concert, belting out "I love music", "She use to be my girl" and "Love train". All the performances was good, even the bonus tracks by The Delfonics and Harold Melvin's Blue notes. The documentary as a bonus, was well put together and really gave you a good insight of the history of Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff the founders of TSOP.

What can you say about Disney? We listen to all 3 volumes (I know there are tons of Disney compilations out there, but these are the orignals) in the car and my daughter changes her favorite every week. The ones from the rides are especially fun, and some of them are quite old, but still great!

The songs on this cd are a bit more "adult" than on the others. I really enjoy, but the kids don't really ask for this one.

The songs on this CD are a little newer and less "classic-ish" than the songs on previous albums in this line, but I still find them to be a good completion to my collection. Again, there is a variety of songs, which is good for car trips and such.
