I have been a fan of the Village People since the 70's. I had the opportunity to see them in concert over the summer, they were fantastic. The energy they have brought everyone to their feet. They did all their hits plus a new song. This CD is fun.

My husband wanted to get this after watching the movie as they used all sorts of good songs to work out with, however, this CD doesn't include the best songs and it is lousy. Don't buy it ...or better yet buy mine as we sure don't want it!

I wish I would have read the reviews before I bought the CD. I had been wanting the soundtrack assuming it would be most of the music from the movie and boy was I surprised to hear more remakes than originals that are tolerable to say the least. Not completely unhappy, but wish that I had looked a little closer before purchasing this one.

Many, many thanks to the French guy for posting the songs and original artists. I just finfished watching the movie and was so pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it, being 33 years old! It made me want to find my old skates and lace 'em up and zoom around my block at 12:30am! ha ha... What a disappointment to look up the soundtrack and see how lame it is with all the remakes and so few of the great songs from the movie! I will be downloading the songs for sure.

I was planning on purchasing this when it came out and ended up winning an A&S Trivia Contest and received it as a prize...thankfully NO ONE else got this PRIZE! I was blown away by some of the remixes by one of my favorites, Dimitri From Paris --- especially "One More Try" which takes the funky original and shoots it into the stratosphere. Dim's takes on "Stay Free", especially the Club Mix take the original and give it a contemporary spin. I was so pleased to hear it playing in NYC that very week. As for the originals, I want to mention to the other reviewers that you can pick up "Gimme Something Real", "I Wanna Be Selfish", and "A Musical Affair" over at iTunes for almost next to nothing.

Finding this gem made an ordinary shopping trip to my local music store something right up there with ecstasy. These are the hits of my early teen years and back then, I could not afford 12" singles (nevermind that these 12" remixes were not available anyway) but I have always wanted the 12" version for "It Seems To Hang On". As a kid I had to be content with taping it off the radio. So finding this 2-disc treasure was a hit right off the bat, but that was just the beginning. Still more were the remixes for "Don't Cost You Nothing" one of my 7th grade favorites and then there were great songs that I have not heard, especially "Over & Over" or "Tried, Tested and Found True". Ashford & Simpson are truly some of my favorite artists from my youth, and their classics are the songs that are the epitome of my musical tastes.

Now about the new remixes:
With so many oldies getting bandwagon treatment and sounding like it, you won't find any bandwagon remixes here. I had my skepticism for those other than Tom Moulton and M&M (well 1/2 of M&M since Sergio Munzubia has passed away). I am familiar with Joey Negro and Joe Claussel but I know them for what they do on today's remix scene. Well, to make a long story short, I really could not tell that I was not listening to something from the 1970's, HONESTLY.
First off: Tom Moulton does the honors for Found A Cure. Now Moulton is now stranger to the remix thing (just think of him as the John Lennon of the remix), you really can't go wrong with his work! I love that bassline change, it sounds like it may have been apart of the original recording.

Now for Tommy Musto's doing for "It Seems To Hang On": OOOOH I am getting goose bumps just reviewing it. If Musto added any production to his remix, I am hard-pressed to notice it!!!!! OK, I noticed some bongos, but were they in the original version but just way in the background or not used? They really appeared to belong to the original. The tempo remains the same (in fact only 2 remixes are faster) and the music is fully intact but the remixing and the restructuring is very, very, impressive. I really loved how Musto extended the chorus right after the 2nd "Lose Me, Lose Me" break.... and he did it using the original music, not just restructuring the song's chorus and creating new music to match it. This is one of my central classics and Musto made good with this remix so I won't have to hunt him down!!!!

Paul Simpson & 1/2 of M&M (John Morales) do the honors of both Over & Over, and Tried, Tested and Found True. Now Paul Simpson, I remember as a remixer from the late 1980's and during the early 1990's and have wondered what happened to him (Now he did appear as an artist in 1983 with The Paul Simpson Connection). John Morales and the late Sergio Munzubia were perhaps one of my favorite remix duo's of the 80's and anything with "M&M" on it got bought. I thought at first that these remixes were previously unreleased from their heydays until I found that the collaboration was really a Simpson & Morales team-up (S&M mix? Whoa!, beat me, beat me - just kidding). Both of these remixes are faithful to the original recording adding little, if any production.

Joey Negro takes up the tempo for his remix on Love Don't Make It Right adding music that compliments the original production and still leaving elements of the original song.

For the last remix "Stay Free" Which is the only song to appear 3 times is sped up but really sounds like it could have been that way originally. The song still sounds like it came right out of the 1970's

While Michael Jackson's "Thriller 25" is good, I must say that Jackson will be taking a backseat as a duo that has more of a relevance in my life, have been fortunate to have their 2008 redux!

Ahhhhhh!!

What a musical gemm

This is THE must CD every disco-soul collector should have, the original versions and original promo only 12" versions were great, but the remixes on disc 2 are a wonderful addition made in the spirit of the original sound, no extra drumcomouters er samples, just the right remix of a classic should be (maybe a remix of Chaka Khan's "I'm every moman" should be as an addition on the album, or an album of Chaka's hits in the same production would be nice)

BUY BUY BUY BUY!!!!!!!

Why so much compression?

As a lover of dance music I must say that the engineers went wrong in the remastering of this one. I bought it together with the 12 Grand Inches 5. What a difference! Why so much compression in the remastering of the drumbeat. Why?? The distortion is evident. You can barely listen to the bass line. Mainly in disc 2, the gold in here, the remixes. It's really a pitty. The same mistake occured with the last remaster of the Cerrone's albums. The volume must be a listener's choice.

I listened to completely different kinds of music at the time, so I didn't have many memories attached to these songs. The musical quality of the songs is actually suprisingly good, and the mastering has been done well. This is a nice review of hits of the early 1980s. Ten songs per CD isn't much, so there could have been more songs from each year.

This was during Xmas 1984. One lovely girl from Texas brought to Poland (this is where I live) the 10 cassetes pack with "The Best of Billboard - 1984". I still hear this music. Now I can buy a piece of it.

To anyone who was ...teen in 1984: you have to own this one. Don't tell me there is no music you remember from these years. It must be one at least. Remember the first girlfriend. The first kiss maybe? Yes! That's it!.

I'm 42 and I remember Tavares very well. I was checking out my inventory of all '70s disco music, along with all of the classic rock and soul music I have and I only has "More Than A Woman". I was like it's time to get a collection of Tavares. The 1986 version of "Heaven" is OK...definitely not as good as the original, but it works. "It Only Takes a Minute" is amazing and "Whodunit" is outstanding. Along with the Spinners and the O'Jays, Tavares was up there in the golden '70s. What happened to these great black groups? Boys II Men came close but the fun wasn't there. In fact what happened to all of the great black TV like The Jeffersons, Good Times and What's Happening? Perhaps all of these groups will get together if Obama wins.

These brothers deserve more credit than what they have received in the music world. Are they in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame? Classic bangers! Heaven... Must be missing an Angel. Missing one angel chil' cause you're here with me---Right Now. and Whodunit.......Who stole my baby. WHODUNIT. Everyone in the room looks shady. WHODUNIT. Who took my girl from meee, yeeah! CLASSICS. More Than a Woman.... More than a woman to me-BaayeeBay. Sooo many great singing groups are (unfortunately and fortunately) singing in Atlantic City, Vegas or wherever they can get a gig. And when they pass on, WE TOTALLY FORGET THEM! Damn Shame. Let's see what becomes of June Pointer's legacy and the Pointer Sisters. TAVARES RULES

A lot of groups seem like overnight successes. The Tavares Brothers started out years earlier as Chubby and the Turnpikes. Renamed Tavares at Capitol Records they started with "Check it Out", covers of Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo", and Hall & Oates "She's Gone". Their biggest hits came next including "It Only Takes a Minute, Heaven Must be Missing an Angel" and the cut that was used in the movie "Short Circuit" as well, "More Than a Woman". Johnny Five dances with Ally Sheedy. Alive! The same as this album is, music to make you come alive and get up and dance. Enjoy.

Seventies soul group popular in Britain

Looking at their chart history, it seems that Tavares were more popular in Britain, where they had four top ten pop hits, than their American homeland, where they had just one. Exactly why this should be so is not clear to me, but although Tavares were by no means the most important group of their era, they recorded some great songs.

This compilation includes all except one of their American top forty pop hits (Remember what I told you) and most of their ten UK hits, including a remix of Heaven must be missing an angel but not the original. While I would have preferred the original, the difference is not as dramatic as it might have been.

Heaven must be missing an angel, Don't take away the music, Whodunit and More than a woman (a track from the Saturday night fever soundtrack) were all UK top ten hits that made the American top forty pop chart. It only takes a minute was their only American top ten pop hit - it was a minor UK hit in 1986 having missed the chart, or maybe not been released, back in the seventies.

The mighty power of love (top thirty) and One step away (top twenty) are other UK hits included here, while Check it out was an American top forty pop hit. Other tracks include a cover of the Hall and Oates classic She's gone.

If you are interested in seventies soul music, Tavares are definitely worth a listen.

I remember listening to this LP when I was a teenager and as soon I could, I purchased this on CD as a must have in my collection. The production of this CD is nothing short of greatness. From start to finish, Grace's strong vocals over those hypnotic reggae/island tinged beats make this one of the best LPs of the 80s. The theme here is Nightclubbing and this will definitely have you shaking your bon-bon and bobbing your head. While Pull Up To The Bumper was the big hit, Walking In The Rain, Use Me, and I've Seen That Face Before are winners in their own right. No need to skip any tracks on this one, just pop it in and let it play. And that CD cover is to die for!

Sexy Jamaican French accent, Beautiful Glamazon, Warhol worshiped her, people fear her! She kills conversation when she walks into a room.
This is perhaps my favorite cd by Grace though "La Ve En Rose" is my fav song by her. Avant-Garde,Very hip New York underground late seventies (when poseurs were to cool to dance) feel to this. This is a perfect cd for lowridding or a runway fashion show.

Grace Jones at the top of her game!

Grace Jones is a very unique artist-and I used the term art because I cannot think of another word to describe the sound she achieved in Nassau in the early 80's with Sly & Robbie in the recording studio. It's a tough, stripped down sound-based loosley in reggae and caribbean styles but spice up with modern electronics, some light drum programming and very chilly atmospherics. Her menacing title cover of Iggy Pop is just that-creepy with no warmth or sentimentality. The albums basic sound is based summed up in "Walking In The Rain" in which Grace talk sings the lyrics. The hit here is "Pull Up To The Bumper" and that is a catchy contemporary funk tune with an interesting rigid beat."Libertango" is another highlite because it's partically sung in French (a Jones trademark by this time) and the music defies classification. She then tackles "Use Me" and "Demolition Man"-channeling more the aggression in the songs vocally along along with the rhythm section's attack."I've Done It Again" is another crowning achievment-a ballad featuring her best vocals (and that is saying A LOT) and another great poignant, unsentimentalized lyric.Grace Jones is just a musical artist and vocal painter with a lot of flair and a rebellious temperment. In the case of 'Nightclubbing' she is also more then willing to let everyone come along for the ride. And it certainly is a ride worth taking.

I came of age in the 70's, and loved the music. I never even heard of most of these songs! The series has been uneven, but on the whole, I never regretted buying any of them except this one, and I have the whole set.

I Finally Found Emotion from Samantha Sang!!!

I have been searching for this song for a while, & I finally found it, the rest of the songs really don't fit my taste, but I was very happy to have this one song from it's original artist.

If I could rate this less than one star, I would

This is my second least favorite CD of the entire "Have a Nice Day" series. Second to Volume 18 because although all the tracks here are the original radio-friendly edits, the selections really do stink. But, that's expected when you consider that they've probably got nothing much left to work with that are obscure "one hit wonders" from the late seventies. I really didn't follow Top 40 Radio after 1976 anyway. When the era of the Disco Bee Gees started to take off, I started listening to album Rock radio. This Volume 24 has no album rock tracks. Much of it was very oblivious to me when I bought this CD. All I really knew was "Emotion" by Samantha Sang (very Bee Geeish) and "Feels So Good" by Chuck Mangione. I know these two songs because of a girlfriend that I had at the time. I never heard the other songs on the radio, ever. I'm glad I left AM Pop radio. The high charting "Hey Deanie" by Shaun Cassidy (remember "The Hardy Boys?"), and "Heaven on The 7th Floor" by Paul Nicholas (remember "Lisztomania") are sickening! My God, this crap was topping the charts? While people my age were listening to this type of pop music, I was discovering Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Pink Floyd, and Yes. I didn't pay attention to pop radio again til I joined the Air Force and started watching MTV in the dayroom at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. I wish this CD was the last one so I can easily get rid of it and just say that "Have a Nice Day" was only 24 volumes.

I was looking at just listening to a few tracks that I was familiar with. Yet, there were several tracks that were suprising good as well. This is probably the definitive collection of Modern Talking that you can find.

It's no surprise, nor coincidence, that most reviews I've read about this CD celebrate the discovery of the almost impossible to find song "Firestarter" by Tease. I've been looking for this song for at least a decade, since I finally gave up on finding the old 45 I used to own when I realized, when the heck was I actually gonna ever play a 45 again? Honestly, there may be only a few other songs I really care about on this CD. But I give those who produced it credit based on their inclusion of Firestarter alone, though the inclusion of "Curious," I Wanna Be Your Man, Silver Shadow" and "Slow Down" are evidence of their knack for including deeper songs from the 80s R&B scene than most collections would cater to- like the overplayed and easily found cuts of the 80s scene. But, frankly, I'm buying this CD for "Firestarter" alone. This was one song that even most guys had no objection to dancing to w/ their favorite lady, as it easily speaks to to the hearts of both genders. I remember smiles everywhere when the DJ threw this song on. It's easily my one of my favorite one hit wonders songs of the 80s, if not ever.

JUST WONDERFUL!!!

I am a fan of this series as it often is the only place to find old school classics. Songs that were popular back in the day, but by either one-hit-wonders, or artists with out of print recordings. This CD is the only place I could find "Firestarter" by Tease, and "Sugar Free" by Juicy. I also enjoyed "Who Do You Love" by Bernard Wright and "Come into My Life" by Joyce Sims. This collection is from a day when slow jams were more than just the whining you hear on the radio today. There was rhythm, there was funk, there was soul.

very smooth!!!!
