It seems that ever since the album Transistor they have been transisting to crap. I say crap lightly I don't mean it entirely. It should be noted that Transistor is actually one of my favorite albums. However, Soundsystem followed which was alright, then it was from Chaos which I loved, they really were getting back to their roots with that one with songs like "From Chaos" and "Sick Tight". Then they followed with Evolver and again the cd starts out with "Creatures" and then mellows out for the rest of the cd. And then Don't Tread on Me came to mellow us even more. Now they have brought us Uplifter and yet again it's a different kind of sound, yes, but still the same mellow stuff with exception of ONE like "Jackpot", Which doesn't compare at all to former songs like "Hive" or "Lucky".
I am not a big fan of this album and for those of you who love 311 and are thinking about buying this hoping for something pretty awesome. These words are hard, don't worry yourself with this one guys. If you're an old school fan this will not suffice at all. Uplifter will just make you feel like your constantly sitting in some salsa bar and not in the halls of a pretty cool concert venue jamming out to the 311 that we all first loved!
PS: Is SA sounding more like a girl now on purpose? Example "I Like The Way".
Well, I guess its okReviewer ID:

Most songs on this album will remind you of verses or hooks from other songs. SA's versus and harmonies follow the same formula as the past albums and there's nothing to grab on to.
I gave this CD 5 days of repeated listening and I've decided that I wouldn't replace it if it were lost or stolen.

You've got 21 songs in the dvd. Some of the best numbers that were performed are Stratus ( a Billy Cobham original), Cause We've Ended As Lovers (a Stevie Wonder original but made famous by JB), Led Boots (a Max Middleton composition), Scatterbrain and Space Boogie.
Guest artists were Eric Clapton, Joss Stone & Imogen Heap. JB did 2 songs with EC and that is Little Brown Bird and You Need Love. Joss Stone sang on People Get Ready and Imogen Heap sang on Blanket and Rollin and Tumblin.
Among the audience caught by the camera were Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.
If you like various style of guitar playing, then this is the right one for you!

You'll get a lot of 'they should have stayed with ...and out come the wolves sound' .
Personally I'm glad they don't put out the same album over and over.
You can always count on Rancid to throw something differant at you.
I was so happy with this one.
As lame and as simple minded as it sounds.
Every song on it seems to have it's place, no filler.
LA River took some time to get used to - still I'm convinced that Matt Freeman and the cookie monster are the same person/muppet, still, one of the better muppets!
New Orleans & Civilian Ways are two of the greatest songs Rancid has ever recorded, I'd throw them in there with Ruby Soho, Let me go, or Coppers.
The last track is perfect, easily influenced by Willie Nelson.
ALSO!
Don't look now, but you can get this album with a bonus cd + DVD.
The cd gives you a handfull of acoustic tracks from the album + a bonus song. These songs are right on par with the album version; Liberty and Freedom is a standout.
The best 15 smackers you'll ever spend!
Let's hope the next one comes out before 2015!

From the soulful, intense beats of "Knotty Pine" and "Tightrope," to the brooding, emotionally charged "Lua" and "I Was Young...," none of these tracks disappoint. I love the collaborations with Leslie Feist and can't stop listening to the My Brightest Diamond version of "Feeling Good." I also think the Sufjan Stevens track is one of the best I have ever heard by him.
Buy this album. It has an all star line up that truly cannot disappoint. It has also led me to discover a few new artists that I will be following. A great value for a good cause!

It is filled with rare tracks made for this occasion. It even includes music from recently established artists such as Riceboy Sleeps (Sigur Ros's singer side project), Stuart Murdoch (Belle and Sebastian).
There are some great collaborations in here too, such as: David Byrne with the Dirty Projectors, Jose Gonzalez and The Books, Feist and Ben Gibbard, and Catpower and Dirty Delta Blues, to name a few.
Most of the songs capture the essence of the idea and focus more on the feeling rather than the words.
In Short, it is a very romantic and compassionate soundtrack, mainly for a select age group, perhaps more young adult contemporary.
(It should be noted that on the second cd track list, the song "Amazing Grace" should be reversed and should come before "Happiness". "Another Saturday" comes after "Happiness", where "Amazing grace" is said to be).

Ben: Hints of the Pedogay to Come...Reviewer ID:
Review Date: 2009-06-26
Back when this quintessential album was first released in the mid 70s, no one, least of all me(because I wasn't alive) would have known of the turbulent h*mo-erotic adventures that the 'gloved one' would soon venture on to.
However, when one listens up close to the saccharine sweet lyrics of
'Ben' one gets sick on the stomach.
"Ben, the two of us need look no more
We both found what we were looking for..."
I felt g*y just typing that out. It could just as easily be Macaulay Caulkin he is singing about! Maybe this is the song that turned him into a p*derast, who knows.
If you like saccharine sweet love songs with h*mo-erotic, p*derast overtones, you will love "Ben."
"I used to say "I" and "me"
Now it's "us", now it's "we"
RIP Michael Jackson 1958-2009.

The 3rd disc makes this set almost perfectReviewer ID:
Review Date: 2009-01-28
First of all, The 3rd disc starts with "Can't Get Outta The Rain". Now before I continue, here's Amazon's start of their product description of the Essential Limited series. 'Each Essential Limited Edition 3.0 expanded 3-CD set features the biggest hits and best-loved songs from superstar artists'. "Can't Get Outta The Rain" Best-loved? This song is awful. It's mocking disco with silly chants and noises. Quincy Jones should hide under a tree if ever asked about producing this one. They should have omitted that one. Secondly, where's songs like "You Can Win" from his Scarecrow role in the motion picture THE WIZ? Where's "Scream"? The only song that he's ever done a duet on record with his sister, Janet Jackson. Of even The Jacksons "State Of Shock" with Mick Jagger? Surely you don't mean to say that there was not enough room on the 3rd disc for those two tracks while disc 1 has 21 and disc 2 has 17 tracks on them, pushing disc 3 to 10 selections from 7, my goodness, would be-pushing it?
Nevertheless, this is an awesome set. Remember, I AM NOT A MICHAEL JACKSON FAN. But aside from my complaint, it gets no better than this. Starting with a few Jackson 5/Motown tracks to Michael's Motown solo hits, to shifting to The Jacksons and Epic to Michael doing it alone and never turning back. Questionable 2nd verse lyrics in "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" (lyrics slightly different from the THRILLER album). There's nothin' BAD you can say about this box set, really.

What prevents me from giving this compilation a 5 star rating is that it's missing some of his best tracks such as Earth Song and Scream. How were they not included?! And yes, it's great that some of the Jackson 5 songs were dropped in but how about I'll be there?! Otherwise this is a great compilation worth obtaining for your music collection!

I am just 3 years younger than he. He was at his hottest the same time I was! I miss him so much.
As to some sort of review: After looking at all his available CD's, it seems to be between this one and History Vol 1. Then I noticed History doesnt have Dirty Diana, which is my favorite.
Now that he's passed, there's bound to be more lifetime collections coming out very soon. One is listed that is coming out in August, but it has no mention of the songs on it.
I want to say one more thing: Michael does not fit the profile of a pedophile to any educated person. He was like a lot of gazillionaire celebrities: lost in his own exile. Unable to leave the house alone since he was a child. He was obsessed with wanting a childhood and recreated it as often as possible in either visiting Disney, building Neverland, playing Peter Pan, and spending time with children. When i was a child, I played with children, talked to them, and had them in my bed giggling and watching movies. So did Michael. A stupid thing to do as a grown man, in a litigious sense, but then, he really wasn't a grown man. I truly don't believe he did anything wrong....but there are people everyday that try to get money out of celebrities. Someday, those two boys will grow up and get away from thier greedy parents, and I hope they tell the truth and clear his name. We won't blame them...only their parents.

And no I would not consider myself a big Dinosaur Jr fan either
I have gone into depth with a couple of theiir albums Green Mind and Where You Been. But have never heard as much polished songs as on "Farm"
On this album FARM its thou they have "cultivated" all of their previous works with and without BARLOW lineups, into one great album........
Stand out Tracks are
*Said The People*
*See You*
*Plans*
but all could easily stand out which is the bueaty of this albm........
No songs sound the same
Not to mention the Guitar work
One thing about Dino Jr if you like guitar your prlly gunna listen to them, very melodic and catchy riffs that get stuck in your head,
almost painting a vivid picture in your mind, almost taking you on a trip for say ;-)
Highly recommended to those who like an orginal sounding band
Perhaps and overlooked band
Great guitar work, and no i dont mean play as fast as you can
A flat out great album that may be in your player for awhile
Not an instant classic, but still quite goodReviewer ID:
Review Date: 2009-07-03
Beyond had all of the elements of a classic Dinosaur album: earth rattling riffs and solos and possibly the best rhythm section in underground rock, sludgy yet warm production, that magical spot where punk rock collides with stadium rock, metal and even folk, and most important, excellent songs. The only thing seperating it from their first three albums (besides almost twenty years) is the fact that they had all improved as musicians and songwriters.
Farm is Dinosaur in full-on classic rock mode, and while this isn't necessarily a bad thing, there are few surprises here. Where's the punk thrasher? The acoustic falsetto ballad? The damaged art rock? Maybe that is the surprise, perhaps that would have been even more predictable, to play by their own established rules.
Opener "Pieces" is an instant classic, as are Lou's two contributions "Your Weather" and "Imagination Blind", which help to break up the album a bit, as J's songs don't sway too far from the midtempo mark. The ghost of Crazy Horse haunts this record, especially on "Plans" (with a recurring riff eerily reminiscent of "Cortez The Killer") and "I Don't Wanna Go There", probably Dino's longest song ever at almost 9 minutes, with it's never ending solo. Mascis is one of those very rare guitarists that you could never mistake for someone else (when he guested on Thurston Moore's solo album, you knew immediately which contributions were his).
"Over It" (and less successfully "Friends") finds J exploring the pop sensabilities that the later (Lou and Murphless) Dinosaur and J Mascis & the Fog albums focused on. The more I listen, the more details snake to the surface, which leads me to believe it's a bit of a grower, unlike Beyond which grabbed me on the very first listen.
All in all a nice adddition to the ever expanding Dinosaur Jr legacy, but in my opinion not the instant classic that they are more than capable of producing. You gotta love that album cover though. 3.5 stars.

J Mascis is shredding like loaded lightning in a rainforest during a hailstorm !!! ...
Lou Barlow is growling like a feral alligator in heat crawling across a bayou dirt road !!! ...
Murph is thrashing his cymbals and bashing his drums like his very life depended on it !!! ...
Wait? ... Is it true? ... Have I happened to take an accidental whiff of nitrous oxide that may have mysteriously escaped out of the window of Dr. Mascis's dental clinic on North Pleasant street in downtown Amherst, MA? ... Did I just wake up out of a bad dream like Rip Van Winkle hung over from too much bad brew drunk at The Drake in 1974 or too little magic mushrooms found on the 17th floor of JQA in Southwest at U-Mass, Amherst? Did I hear correctly? ...YES, I did !!! ...
Dinosaur Jr. is back with a bite like an overbite from a humungous hippopotamus high on adrenaline and feeding on a baby crocodile!!! ...Indeed, their new album - FARM - is out now, and you best grab it before they are all gone! Get the limited edition, double CD - or the record on vinyl (or both!) - because the four short songs on the second disc are all gems, and the album artwork by Marq Spusta will make you feel like you are being saved by one of Tolkien's gentle giant, benign yet powerful, Tree Ents as they make the great escape from the apocalyptic, urban wasteland to the renewed, rural paradise out in the country. Dave Huckins would be proud!
Where you been, buddy? ... Take a load off your feet, sit back, and groove to the pure awesomeness of this dynamic and powerful music by a band that deserves to be called by the name Dinosaur. This sound is HUGE !!! ...

2. Listen to it
3. Repeat step 2
I was floored when "Beyond" came out. I was always a huge fan of the band, and was absolutely overjoyed to hear they got back together. When I listened to that album for the first time, I felt like it was 1989 all over again, but in a good and relavent way. That great feeling I got with "Beyond", is present ten-fold with "Farm".
"Plans", "Said The People", and "I Don't Wanna Go There" are instant American classics. They're catchy and substantive. Not always an easy combo to find. Hearing Barlow sing "Imagination Blind" and "Your Weather" is a wonderful thing. More bands should mix up the singing duties. It just completely diversifies a band's sound.
Oh, and even if you don't like amazing music, you should buy the album just for the art. I haven't smoked weed in years, but it ALMOST makes me want to puff again:P I might even buy the vinyl just for the creepy but cool art.
Buy it now.

One word-Perfection. COME ON GET HIGHER-Example of why everyone should see Sugarland live. Jennifer's vocals sound better( if that's Possible)live. Love this song. Amazing cover.
Here's to more deluxe versions in the future!:)
