Being a Moody Blues fan most of my life, I immediately bought this cd when it hit the shelves. I try to give this one a chance every Christmas season to get my money's worth but I'm giving up on that this year. The music is uninspired and boring. The lyrics are downright depressing; which spoil a few songs that would be good, otherwise. This is the band's most negative and cynical work and it's supposed to be a "Christmas" album. Thanks, but I'll keep things on the cheery side this year...

As a very long time fan of the Moody Blues & one that enjoys Christmas music (Neil Diamond, Josh Groban, etc), I just happened to check if The Moody Blues had ever done a Christmas CD. And, yes, DECEMBER, put out a few years ago. Though I got it after Christmas this year, I have enjoyed it immensely & would totally recommend it to Moody Blues fans & anyone who enjoys Christmas music. I would have liked a couple more "known" Christmas carols.

It is truly great to hear some new Christmas seasonal music, and some of the songs are really amazing. We first heard the song "December" in concert this March 2008, and I like the live version more, but it is a beautiful song nonetheless. I would love to hear more of these songs during the holiday season, instead of the same old stuff we are bombarded with for the 2 months before Christmas everywhere we go, now atleast I can at home.

All of us Moody Blues fans already know that though they play Rock 'n' Roll, they do so with an orchestral flair that no one else can match. Thus it is with their Christmas offering. It's now 5 days after Christmas and I'm still listening to this album. They do, as expected, a great job on the classics, but I really love the original material on here such as 'Don't Need A Reindeer'.

For true music lovers, this is one to buy and savor each 'December'.

Hoyt Axton was able to follow the pulse of America like the Beatles followed the pulse of growing up in the 60's. He was a profound lyricist. His song "Snow Blind Friend" hits all of us who survived the dope era like no one else ever did."Sweet Misery" and "Less Than The Song (I am Singing)" are life-saving songs.

I would have given this all stars, but it is missing "Somebody Turned On the Light."

A good production of Axtons' classic compositions, though some of the live performance recordings are less than stellar. If you are looking for "The Pusher" that was part of the "Easy Rider" soundtrack, you need to get Steppenwolf's version--not this one.

This is a terrific CD! A collection of Hoyt's "Very Best" songs from 1962-80, it contains many that have been covered by hugely popular bands like Three Dog Night and Steppenwolf, as well as many that are less well known. All are outstanding, and as for the ones that have been covered, I like Hoyt's own versions better! I highly recommend this one. It's all going on my iPod. :-)

Axton is as important to Americana as Dylan and Springsteen and deserves all the respect and attention given him and more. Seeing any CD release of his music is a pleasant suprise but many of his best are missing from this release. If you want Hoyt's best, you've got to have - 500 Miles, Hotel Ritz, Pride of Man, So Hard To Give It All Up, The Devil, Mountain Right, Cowboys On Horses With Wings, Wild Bull Rider, and the most beautiful song he ever sang: I Collect Hearts. Other glaring ommissions include- I Love To Sing, The Way Of The World, Southbound, I Left My Gal In The Mountains and California Women.

Buy a DVD of videos from the 80s? What? Am I nuts? Sure, I taped huge numbers of the videos years ago, but this is DVD, right?

Right.

I'll confess that the main reason I bought this DVD is for a-ha's "Take on Me" video. It won top honors in its year of release as video of the year. Time has been kind to it. The video and the music hold up well.

The B-52's "Love Shack" holds up well too. If you'll look, you'll see a pre-Superstar Ru Paul dancing in the video (Ru and the 52's are from the Atlanta/Athens, GA area).

Devo's "Whip it" is still one of the oddest and guiltiest pleasures to come around.

The Georgia Satellites' "Keep your hands to yourself" is a hillbilly rock song worthy of praise and one I'd forgotten.

"Drive" by the Cars and "New Sensation" are probably the two best produced videos on the DVD. They both show off the groups and are more "classy" than the others.

All in all, I sure yearn for the days when MTV played videos all day and night long and allowed us to enjoy music in a whole new way. I also yearn for videos where the people in them seemed to be having fun....

Worth the 8 bucks it costs!

I admit it; I bought this CD solely for the Pina Colada (Escape) song. To be honest, I never heard any of his other songs before but was pleasantly surprised by the CD. I still put the CD in the player for the Pina Colada song (hence the 4-star rating) but I'm not ashamed to play the rest of the CD when friends are around.

The short story pop song has proved to be the foundation of an amazing career for Holmes, who has gone on to become an award-winning Broadway show writer and recently turned his hand to crime fiction. Each song is well conceived and arranged, and although very much of an era, there are some superb tracks here. 'The people that you never get to love', 'Him' and the later 'Morning Man' etc. Great melodies and arrangements, and clever lyrics. Having stumbled on Holmes around '79, I'm glad I looked beyond the 'Pina Colada song'. He is a true renaissance man. The only pity is the omission of some of the equally strong songs off his concept album 'Full Circle', which are excluded as a result of contractual issues i would guess? Nothwithstanding, at this price this album is great value for money. Get it.

Okay, I am too young to remember when Rupert Holmes was popular. I heard Escape on the radio a few years ago and have been on a quest ever since. My husband surprised me today with this CD and all I can say is WOW! I was fully expecting to listen to Escape over and over again, but I actually enjoyed the entire album. Fantastic album! I just have to add that my 4 year old son now loves the "Pina Colada" song. As soon as we get in the car, he asks to hear the "boy" song. Not sure where he got that, but he sings along with it!

Rupert Holmes is truly one of the most impressive songwriters of all time. This "Greatest Hits" CD offers an excellent sampling of songs from his first six albums which span the years 1974-1980--every track on here was written solely by Rupert. Track after track displays his sophisticated & awesomely melodic songwriting, & of course, there's his extremely well-crafted lyrics, often filled with humor, yet often heart-tuggingly sentimental as well. "Speechless", "Less Is More", "Terminal", "The People That You Never Get To Love", the epic "Town Square & The Old School", the regretful "Weekend Lover", & "Morning Man", with its luminous, richly-harmonized chorus, all demonstrate his incredible knack for sentimental balladry. Then, there's his "playful" side which is represented with such gems as "Let's Get Crazy Tonight", the hilarious denial song "I Don't Need You", & of course, that notorious, yet classic #1 hit "Escape" aka "The Pina Colada Song". His one other US Billboard Top Ten single, the dramatic infidelity song "Him", is yet another gem. Out of the 18 tracks on this 70+ minute disc, there's very little to complain about. The disc opens with the enjoyable 2000 track "Remember When", his theme song to the American Movie Classics series "Remember WENN", & it's followed by the nod to 1940's-style jazz on the largely splendid "Second Saxophone". I get the feeling Rupert liked the idea of starting this collection with these 2 uncharacteristic tracks, thinking that quite a few people would be buying this mainly to hear "The Pina Colada Song". On the other hand, to put it a certain way, nothing is uncharacteristic for Rupert--he has a great knack for incorporating various styles into his music. With the music here being so consistently excellent, there's really no need to gripe about the songs that DIDN'T get included here, because certainly you can't include all of Rupert's gems on a single CD. I will point out though that a couple of Rupert's albums--1981's "Full Circle" & his 1994 'comeback' album "Scenario"--aren't represented at all on this disc. Although he hasn't had an enormous stack of regular albums, there are still a huge number of gems to be found--he could easily pack a "Greatest Hits 2" with gems without having to repeat a single track from here. This CD also provides informative, typically humorous liner notes written by Rupert himself. Some of the discographical information included seems to have somehow gotten a tad messed up--"Studio Musician" is said to be from his 1976 album "Singles" AND his 1975 self-titled album--it's actually from the latter album--I don't think it was ever included on "Singles" (which is NOT a 'greatest hits' album as the title suggests). Also, his 1980 album "Adventure" is given the date 1981. Maybe there's a justifiable explanation though from someone who knows more than I do. It's a minor gripe in any case. Rupert did have a previous compilation, "The Epoch Collection", which draws from only his first 3 albums & gathers a number of excellent songs not on here--it's out of print in the US, as are the albums "Pursuit of Happiness", "Partners In Crime", & "Adventure". So, when you add to this the fact that this disc has excellent sound quality, this ends up being a collection that's great both for big Rupert fans and for new/ casual fans--it's obviously not the last word on him, but it's a great place to start--his genius is on display in a huge way on this CD.

THIS IS A WELCOME "SURPRISE" DVD FROM LYNYRD SKYNRD.THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING 14 SONG DVD, THAT WAS FILMED AT THE ROCKPALAST "LORELEY" FESTIVAL IN GERMANY, DURING 1996. IT WAS FILMED BEFORE A VERY LARGE, ENTHUSIASTIC CROWD. THE BAND IS GREAT, THE ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT, THE MUSIC IS GREAT, MAKING THIS ONE GREAT CONCERT DVD!!! YOU EVEN GET THE REBEL FLAG AS A BACKDROP.

They perform all their classics, plus you get a few rare ones, like "I ain't the one", the entire version of "double trouble" instead of the medley version, and "SWAMP MUSIC" (This is a great rarity for concert dvd's, It's a great song, it has a reference to the late Bluesman Son House - ..."when the hound dogs start barking, they sound like Son House singing the blues..."). These make this concert more special.

You get the line-up of Johnny Van Zant on Lead Vocals, Gary Rossington on guitar, Rickey Medlocke on guitar, and the late Hughie Thomossom on guitar, Billy Powell on keyboards, the late Leon Wilkeson on bass (this is another reason this dvd is special - it includes both Leon & Hughie who are both now deseased), Owen Hale on drums and Dale Kranz-Rossington and Carol Chase on backing vocals.

The "3 guitar" performances of Gary, Rickey, and Hughie are awesome!!! This was quite a team of guitar players. Just like Gary, Allen and Steve (or Ed), were an awesome team.

THE BONUS MATERIAL CONSISTS OF 3 SONGS: "WORKIN' FOR MCA", "FREEBIRD'AND "SWEET HOME ALABAMA". This was filmed in Hamburg, Germany during 1974. The line-up consists of Ronnie Van Zant on vocals, Ed King on guitar, Gary Rossington on guitar, Allen Collins on guitar, Billy Powell on keyboards, Leon Wilkeson on bass, and Bob Burns on drums.

NOTE - THIS BONUS MATERIAL IS SOMEWHAT "RAW" AND "UNPOLISHED", BUT IT IS VERY,VERY GOOD, ESPECIALLY FOR EARLY SKYNYRD FANS. I LOVE IT!!!

HOWEVER, IF YOU REALLY LIKE THIS BONUS MATERIAL OF THIS VERSION OF EARLY SKYNYRD, I RECOMMEND THE LYNYRD SKYNRYD "ROCK CASE STUDIES" DVD, BECAUSE IT CONTAINS MORE FOOTAGE OF THIS VERSION OF SKYNYRD, MORE FOOTAGE THAN THIS BONUS MATERIAL.

I LIKE ALL VERSIONS OF LYNYRD SKYNRYD, THE OLD SKYNYRD AND THE NEW SKYNYRD. THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING CONCERT DVD. IT even contains great liner notes included in the dvd package. YES, I RECOMMONED THIS CONCERT DVD!!! IT'S A GREAT ONE!!!

Get it for mainly the bonus footage...

The main concert featured on this DVD is pretty good, but some of the performances from some of the band members are a little off. The two main redeeming highlights of the main concert with the more contemporary lineup is them performing "Workin' For MCA" (which they no longer could do once they signed to CMC) and the cool guitar solos performed in series by the three guitarists. The band's performance on the Lyve From Steel Town DVD is flawless, and overall I recommend that one over this one if you don't want to get both. However, I encourage you to get both, because several songs on this DVD do not appear on the Steel Town DVD because the latter was recorded shortly after their awesome "Twenty" album was released, so several of their old numbers were replaced with material from "Twenty."

The best thing about this DVD, of course, is the vintage footage of the old Lynyrd Skynyrd with Ronnie, Ed King, et al performing back in 1974. The sound quality is predicatably bad, but not unbearably horrible like some bootleg VHS recordings you can find on ebay. One cool part of that footage features Ed King doing a nice, melodic solo before the last verse of "Free Bird" that later was always occupied by Billy Powell--interesting--never heard a live version of Free Bird without Billy's solo. The only bad part (and it's just humorous rather than annoying) of this classic footage is Ed King singing harmony on "Sweet Home"--yikes! No wonder they got the Honkettes later on! :)

I have a lot of respect for Rihanna, she has captivate the world with her unique style, performance and vocals. Some hate her voice, I say she is unique, she is Rihanna and for that she gets 5 stars. The Good Girl Gone Bad album is undoubtably her best, my first Rihanna CD I bought and did not regret, the videos left on me a great impression, I mean who can forget the amazing "Umbrella" video with her painted in metalic silver (I wonder if she borrowed the idea from Madonna's "Fever Video"), great dance sequence, her body is hot, amazing. "Shut up and Drive" another great video Rihanna looks hotter than hot, I can go on and on. I am however not impressed with all the other releases of this album "Reloaded" and "Remixed" they are really milking it for what its worth.

Anyway getting back to the subject at hand the "Good Girl Gone Bad" live DVD. I guess I expected too much, I expected to see her dance like she does in her videos but she rarely does, she also seems to have put on a little (and I'm just being nice) weight on the hips, I was looking forward to see the hot bodied Rihanna from the Videos, it was not elaborate enough as I wanted it to be for such a successful album. She does however sing all her hits from this amazing album including a few from her previous album including the massive UK #1 hit "SOS", the sound quality is great as well and the behind the scenes are pretty cool to look at, you see her in a different light, she seems like a really down to earth lady and she will always be gorgeous. The show is okay, I expect much more, but hey get yourself a copy and see for yourself.

I'm a Rihanna fan but I don't get this Hairdo that she has here. Its 80's and so bad. Really not sexy like she was when she came out in 2005. Also, why is she going in a rock direction on this concert? She is an astounding RnB/Pop artist and does not need to add loud guitars in her mix. The guitars actually detract bigtime from this performance. However, Her voice is perfect and the sound and visual quality are top notch. The show is non-stop energy. I just hope she can bring back the original Rihanna that wasn't all leather and spikes. I KNOW the next tour will be better!

Bought this as an lp when it was out. Fantastic that it's on cd. Follows Julio through the majority of his European hits. You can't help but feel as though you are somewhere in the sun when it's playing. I believe that they are all originals with Un Canto A Galicia (his 1972 Number 1 hit in Holland ,21 weeks) and Quereme Mucho, (his 1979 Number 1 hit) amongst the many great songs. Light years before he was popular in uk. You don't have to understand the language to appreciate the songs. If you want an album by Julio, get this one. You won't be disappointed.

"We do not remember days, we remember moments." So said Cesare Pavese, Italian novelist and poet. We all have had glorious "golden moments" in our lives, and poignant memories of these times return occasionally, consciously and in dreams. Sometimes the lyrics and melody of a song can bring back a flood of remembrances. The voice of Julio Iglesias, singing the ballads he made famous, especially from the 1970s, invariably brings to mind a world gone by, and people, very dear, who are now lost to me - but not to my inner world. Which brings me to the album, "Julio Iglesias: The 24 Greatest Songs."

Yes, I am an eternal romantic. And Julio Iglesias is the all-time master of the romance ballad. Few other vocalists can communicate the intensity of love, its joys, melancholy and suffering as well as he does, (and everyone who loves, suffers, at least a little). Some men are turned off by all the schmaltz. But women, worldwide, love Iglesias and his repertoire. I lived for many years in Mexico and Latin America - some of my best years, in fact, and listening to these 2 wonderful CDs brings back, to my mind's eye & ear, the faces and voices of people so special to me; moments spent in the tropical sunshine and others in the crisp mountain air of the Andes; and, of course, starlit nights, romance and friendship also. I remember laughing and crying with my girlfriends to these very same songs - comparing notes about the capriciousness of love. The first time I listened to "33 Anos," (33 Years), I was 33 years-old...and felt as if I were rapidly moving toward middle age, as does Julio in the song. Many years later, now, I have to laugh!

Originally released in 1978, the 2 CD compilation was re-released in 1998. Although the lyrics in many of the 24 songs are exceptionally beautiful, one does not have to speak Spanish to appreciate the quality of Sr. Iglesias' warm velvety voice or the romantic orchestral backup. Are these his 24 greatest songs? Disc 1 is absolutely on target. There's not a single cut that should be omitted, although I wish I could have added some. The music and lyrics of the nostalgic "Me Olvide De Vivir," and the exquisitely tender love song "A Flor De Piel," are favorites. The raw emotion in "Abrazame," and "Por Un Poco de Tu Amor" could bring forth tears from a stone. Disc 2 is more upbeat, and although many of the cuts are excellent, I could eliminate some tracks easily. I love the Mexican classic, "Cu-Cu-Rru-Cu-Cu Paloma," the dramatic "Candilejas," and the beautiful "Jurame, and "Caminito" are highlights. I have never been a fan of "Manuela," although it doesn't bother me to listen to it. However, "Un Dia Tu, Un Dia Yo" is an awful song, and I could do without "Quiereme" also.

Make no mistake though, this is probably the best collection ever of Julio Iglesias' great ballads and it is definitely a 5 Star album. I am being picky, that's all. I want all 24 songs to be superb - but my taste is not everyone's, and what pleases me most might not do the same for others. "Julio Iglesias: The 24 Greatest Songs" is a truly great album. I highly recommend it.

Wonderful romantic languages i.e. Castlillean, Galician, etc. all mixed with a profound Spanish/Latin feeling that only Julio can express.

Maybe this group should have waited awhile before producing a live concert DVD. The production values on this one were really amateur. Very small club, no pizazz or good lighting. Kind of like watching a show at your neighborhood bar. I expected more and wouldn't buy another of their DVD's.

You better grab this one if you're a PCD fan!

This DVD is a must have for any die-hard Pussycat Dolls fans out there.

The DVD begins with an intro of all the Dolls, with Don't Cha music playing in the background as the girls come on the screen along with each of their names.

After that the main menu screen comes up for you to choose which area of the disc you'd like to see. They have a cute kitty paw when you change to each selection :)
The choices you have at this menu are:
-Play the LIVE show. (Buttons, Beep, I Don't Need A Man, Feelin' Good, Stickwitu, Show Me What You Got Interlude, Wait A Minute, & Don't Cha).

-View all the videos (which have 2 behind the scenes extras for Buttons and Beep).

-Meet the Dolls (the Dolls go through telling you their backgrounds and so forth).

-Extras (Plays the video for Don't Cha in the Karaoke version so you can sing along to it yourself as the words are highlighted at the bottom)

-Credits (that sort of explains itself)

-Dress Like A Doll (brings up a screen with Melody on the right with PCD merchandise on the left and tells you about their boutique collection).

As someone said previous to my post, the color on the live performance is a bit off, but it definitely doesn't take away from the overall feel of the DVD. They all still look beautiful!
On the inside of the DVD, there is a booklet with the same cover on it as the front displays, on the inside gives more detailed info about the videos etc. and on the back of it is a big Pussycat Dolls heart symbol.

This is a great DVD to purchase and is cheaper to get it here at Amazon than at WalMart at the moment, f.y.i. It's a deal and you WON'T be disappointed!!

Nice PUSSYcats!!!

Isn't it awesome when you have some sort of preconceived idea of how something isn't gonna be, and they you're pleasantly surprised, and completely fooled. That's what happened when I saw this DVD. Now, I'll be the first to admit, I'm down with the Hotties of the Pussycat Dolls. I love their sexy, hot bodies, crawling across the screen in their awesome videos. Don' cha! is one of my favorite songs I hear on the radio, and I always crank it as I'm rolling down the block in my sweet Toyota Sienna mini-van!

But I didn't expect much from this eye candy, beyond a hit or two, and 90% filler. Not the case with these SBILF's (Single B I'd like to F). They are very talented and very yummy to watch. A great combination.

I highly recommend this little package. And the sexy packages that are in the DVD!

I was totally dissappointed with this DVD. If that was really their live show in London I feel very sorry for their fans. It was like they were just singing in my living room. The stage was a joke. It was sooo small.
There was no stage show at all, no pizzaz, nothing.
Again it was a big dissappointment.

If you are looking for a true worship experience from a DVD then this is it! There is something to be said about true worship in a land that GOD inhabits. The music, the atmosphere, the people were all in unison in the worship experience. Get this DVD and open your heart and mind to the presence of God through song and ministry.

Enjoy!!

I always had a love for gospel music, but I could only listen to Richard Smallwood, Fred Hammond, & Kirk Franklin but so much. So my sister told me about Alive In Africa. One song she raved about was a song called Alpha & Omega (my eyes are starting to water now talking about it) listening to the song on CD puts you in a place to where you cant help but get emotional. Then I found out they had a DVD for the CD, at first I was nervous about buying it because I knew if the CD had me in tears I knew seeing it live would destroy me. Just the raw emotion from all the singers and the crowd blew me away. Songs like Alive, Turn It Around, No Limits puts you in another place. When I saw Isreal do Alpha & Omega... It's unexplainable. I think its the ultimate love song to God, and the fact that he couldnt contain himself just made the song more powerful. This DVD is the truth

South Africa will never be the same!

I cant say how blessed I am to have purchased this item. Israel and New Breed are annointed and gifted, and they have blessed millions around the world, but the experience in South Africa is hard to put into words.
Songs such as Alpha & Omega, Not Forgotten, I Will, and featuring Jonathan Butler was a true treat. In addition to the DVD, I had to get the cd so I can hear the music whereever I am!

I haven't read all (or many) of the reviews for this yet but in the ones that I have read I haven't heard a thing about 3D. WATCH THE MOVIE ON A GOOD SIZED SCREEN TV WITH 3D GLASSES ON!!!!!!!!!! You know the red and blue lensed ones? When you watch it like that you wil be amazed! The most realistic psychodelic video ever! Please trust me and order some 3D glasses, this movie, and ask whomever you know that has a big screen if you can borrow a few minutes of it's time. It is SOOOO awesome what they have made!

For reasons I'm not going to go into, I had to buy this DVD of Tool's video. The video itself is amazing, of course, and the extras are nice too. The commentaries with David Cross are hilarious and I think it's great that Tool has a sense of humor even over a serious piece of work like the video. The documentary about the video is great too. The creation of the video itself is very interesting to see and the interviews with Alex Grey and others are a real bonus. The only think it's really lacking is interviews from the band members themselves. I guess this was done for a reason, but it would be nice to see what they thought about the video too.

The universe is hostile, so impersonal...

Its an amazing video by Tool and Alex Grey, is there much more to say? Great visuals and it also includes those specs that '10,000 Days' had with new 3-D pictures. The commentaries by David Cross are pretty funny too. Only downfall is the price for one video. They really should just make a collection of all the videos. They lose one star for that.
