I have always enjoyed the pure rush I feel when listening to the great hits of Motown, and this CD set is one of the best.
I actually asked for this set as a Christmas gift & enjoyed it so much that I ordered the same CD's for a good friend of mine.
The collection of songs is outstanding and makes road trips or just an afternoon of kicking back an absolute blast.

One of the biggest problems of oldies radio is the boredom factor. Most stations stick to a list of 300 "safe"songs that their consultants say won't repel listeners. Really?Well, there are songs here that won't be heard on the radio, and there lies the attraction of the entire "Hard to Find 45's" series from Eric. Bill Buster is to be commended for the care he took on this entire series, and I don't think he's done yet!One of the biggest attractions of this series is the appearance of first-time stereo tracks. Listen to Verdelle Smith sing "Tar and Cement" on this disc. A forgotten oldie that deserves the exposure this disc gives it, the stereo mix gives it a texture the mono version never could. and "Sukiyaki" in stereo... you won't find this anywhere else. Kyu Sakamoto shines, and the rich instrumental accompaniment comes through more clearly than ever. If it weren't for the fact that Sakamoto was killed in a plane crash, it could have been newly recorded.According to the liner notes, this stereo mix was created exclusively for this CD. The impeccable quality of this compilation is representative of the entire series. This disc happens to be my favorite, but you should listen to the entire series to the massive undertaking Bill Buster, the man behind Eric Records, took to bring this to us. It was truly a labor of love, and it shows. Don't just stop at Vol. 7; go for the gusto and get 'em all. You'll be glad you did!

You just have to listen to this CD...people complain about some of the songs being "obscure"...16 of the 21 tracks were Top 20 hits...maybe not the tired stuff you hear on the local "oldies" station, but this series bases a song's validity more on merit than anything else.

Hard To Find 45s on CD, Volume 7: More 60's Classics has some pretty wonderful tunes from back in the day when `60s music filled the airwaves! These songs are sure to bring back good memories for you if you enjoyed this music then; and the quality of the sound couldn't be better. The artwork is nice, too.

Johnny Burnette starts things off with "Dreamin';" this tune has a great beat and the strings are used to great advantage. Johnny sings this with all his heart and soul and I love this song! Gene McDaniels follows next with his huge hit, "A Hundred Pounds Of Clay." "A Hundred Pounds Of Clay" is a relentlessly upbeat, joyous tune that is always great to hear; this music is timeless and the ballad sounds fresh and new even today! The Velvets also do a great job on "Tonight (Could Be The Night)." "Tonight (Could Be The Night)" is a song that you might recognize only when you hear it; the name I didn't recognize but when I hear this music I easily remembered this song. "Tonight (Could Be The Night)" is a mixture of early rock and roll with a doo wop twist that is absolutely awesome!

The G-Clefs ace their tune entitled "I Understand (Just How You Feel);" this touching ballad gets a very sensitive interpretation from The G-Clefs and it all works very well. I really like "I Understand (Just How You Feel)." Danny Williams also scores big with his hit entitled "White On White;" "White On White" is a very pretty melody and I predict you'll like this very much. In addition, "Don't Just Stand There" by Patty Duke really shines brighter than silver and gold; patty's voice is as clear as a bell and she bats this straight out of the ballpark! The strings sound great and the percussion helps to mark the beat as well.

Nancy Wilson weighs in with her awesome hit "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am;" Nancy delivers this with her usual panache and that's nothing short of terrific. Nancy handles complicated tempo and key changes to make this tune all her own! Cilla Black also does great with "You're My World;" and listen also for The Seekers to perform "I'll Never Find Another You" so sweetly; I could never tire of hearing The Seekers singing "I'll Never Find Another You." Bobby Darin's "You're The Reason I'm Living" is equally special.

The Honey combs sing "Have I The Right?" with lots if positive energy; and the album ends strong with "Sukiyaki" by Kyu Sakamoto--in stereo!

Overall, Hard To Find 45s on CD, Volume 7: More 60's Classics has a lot for people to enjoy! I highly recommend this CD for fans of `60s music.

There's very little I can add to the previous reviews except to say that this was the reason I bought a CD player years ago. More out of curiosity than anything else, I happened to pick up a copy of "Louis Prima: the Capitol Collectors Series" in its audiocassette format back in the early Nineties. Let me assure you, this is Prima at his best, during the wild and swinging Fifties, when his was "THE" act to see in Las Vegas. From the opening number, "Just A Gigolo," I was hooked. There isn't a single track (with the possible exception of "Beep! Beep!") that I didn't enjoy. The man was a master at his craft. No one's a bigger fan of Dean Martin's than me, but when you compare Dino's versions of "Oh, Marie" and "Buona Sera" to Louis', Prima blows him away. Feeling depressed? Down in the dumps? Put on this CD and you'll soon be "jump, jive and wailin'" along with Louis, his then wife Keely Smith, Sam Butera, and the rest of the Wildest. Guaranteed!

How many effortless and affecting changes in tempo and rhythmn can one musician make? Louis Prima was the master. And he was a more accomplished man with a trumpet than Louis Armstrong ever hoped to be. On top of all that, when you set him beside Keely Smith, the combination is music magic. Get the music and listen. At first it may sound like "old timers" music; but stick with it, play it again, and like with great wine, you'll be rewarded after the draught has settled in your guts.

Extraordinary music on a very bad CD

I first saw this CD at a store on Beale Street in Memphis. I almost bought it there but couldn't believe the price on Amazon. It has the definitive collection of Soul, R&B and Blues from the Stax era in Memphis. There are 50 songs on the 2 CD set and at least 2/3's are awesome! Many songs you won't find many other places - and they are all in one place.

If the hologram snapping fingers on the cover don't give any indication of the lively, funky, toe-tappin' Southern soul that Stax put out, you should put on this box set for an introduction. For a very affordable price, it covers most of the major hits from the biggest artists of the label, including Otis Redding, Carla Thomas, Booker T. and the MG's, Sam and Dave, Johnnie Taylor, and Isaac Hayes, and includes songs by less famous acts that you'd be hard-pressed to find represented by an easily available compilation. Stax was the best soul label ever, grittier than Atlantic and Motown, and with an exuberant, passionate spirit that made it all its own.

I bought this package after visiting the Stax Museum of American Soul Music in Memphis. I've always enjoyed the old soul sound from the 60's, as performed by people like Sam and Dave, Otis Redding and many others. What I hadn't realized until touring the museum was that all this great music was truly produced out of love by a relatively small group of musicians and producers in an old abandoned theater they'd converted into a studio from scratch. For those not in a position to tour the museum, this album tells the story not only in printed word but with fifty of the best known hits they recorded. Read through the track listing and you'll see what I mean. And one thing about Stax, since the musicians and the artists worked together almost as a family, chances are if you like a song by one artist, you'll like them all. Among the best tracks here are Otis Redding's I've Been Loving You Too Long, Johnnie Taylor's Who's Making Love and the late Isaac Hayes' mind blowing Theme From Shaft. There are also some long forgotten gems like William Bell's You Don't Miss Your Water and Mel and Tim's Starting All Over Again. The Stax 50th Anniversary Collection is great music that needs to be heard not only for its historical place in popular culture, but also because it's as much fun to listen to now as it was thirty, forty and fifty years ago. And if you're not familiar with the story behind the music, the booklet provided will shed some light into the blood, sweat and tears that was Stax records. Plus, the cover has a really neat hologram of the famous Stax logo. You can actually make the fingers snap by moving the box! And finally, after listening I highly recommend you find time to tour the museum in Soulsville, Memphis, Tennessee. It's outstanding!

Coming 2 years after "Astral Weeks," Van Morrison has proven himself a worthy Pretender to the Throne of Blue Eyed Soul with "His Band and the Street Choir."

While "Astral Weeks" is a masterful assimilation of many styles and influences, "His Band and the Street Choir" is more earnestly revelling in modes and means of American Soul. His earlier album is delicate and vague, while this later one is more muscular, direct, much less ambiguous. It's comforting that way, not having to guess what he's up to.

He's celebrating his love for Janet and want's Everyone to Hear It and Get It. I get it and I like it. Not till 1990's "Enlightenment" would he come close to this consistently joyful a sound. It's a great thrill to experience his changes.

REMASTER AVAILABLE! But ONLY In Japan! Why, Edgar... WHY?

Review Date: 2008-06-27

The good news?

20+ years after their debut on CD, FINALLY, there are full remasters of Moondance, Street Choir and Astral Weeks.

The bad news?

They're not available domestically from Warner Music Group USA: All three were released in June 2008 by Warner in Japan only, and Amazon is FINALLY getting around to stocking them.

The catalog numbers for the three Japan Warner remasters are WPCR-75419, -20 and -21, which streeted in Japan on 6/25/08. Be sure that you use the links I have provided above, as Warner Japan has previously released non-remastered versions of all three titles, and you don't want to make an expensive mistake.

These classic albums, which we have all waited so long to be brought properly into the digital world, now, unfortunately, join fellow Warner artists such as Little Feat, The Doobie Brothers, Neil Young, Ry Cooder, Tower Of Power, Cold Blood and several others, whose remastered catalogs are only available off-shore.

Pathetic.

The responsibility for this is ultimately Edgar Bronfman, Jr., the CEO of WMG USA. Instead of focusing on WMG's core music catalog, he's busy extolling the virtues of consumer-oppressive DRM, over-paying P-Diddy tens of millions of dollars, and this week, revealed as losing another $30 million of WMG funds in promoter Joe Meli's mad scheme to charge $15,000 per person to attend a swank, exclusive, five-act concert series in the Hamptons. These are only a few of many excesses this guy has perpetrated at WMG, presiding over a spectacular loss of investor equity since the 2005 WMG IPO, while he and his investors have lined their own pockets.

This year, Universal is staging a 28-title Van Morrison catalog re-release, all remastered with bonus tracks. You'd think SOMEBODY at WMG would be smart enough to pilot-fish that momentum with these three seminal titles. At the very least, how hard can it be to obtain the existing, completed remasters from a Japan subsidiary and make them available in the U.S.?

All of this is no surprise to WMG, or ex-WEA, insiders. Internally, Warner policy was always that the majority of consumers were going purchase popular catalog titles anyway, so why waste profits to remaster them? WEA sales employees were told this directly by Warner management as far back as the early 90's, and Bronfman's regime simply status-quo'd that odious philosophy.

This is what happens when bean-counters run record companies.

But, I guess Edgar & Co, too preoccupied with moguling the mess they've made of a once-great record company, can't see the opportunity: As of this writing, no WMG act has any major position on the charts, and artists, alienated by WMG's all-finance-dominated mentality, are departing for pastures where music still has some modicum of corporate consideration.

What a waste.

WMG could borrow a page from Sony, who established a successful business model out of sonically-upgrading their catalog over a decade ago. The only major Columbia Records artist that comes to mind, whose catalog hasn't been remastered, is Springsteen... and you have to believe that's not by Sony's choice.

Bottom line, Edgar? If you don't believe there's no positive revenue to be generated by offering a better product, then you've no business being in that business.

This album gave Bruce the Juice.

Okay, well I am not a big fan of stars collaborating on anything, much less brother and sister, I had to admit, this one was entertaining. Not only was the video off the hook with an all-white, futuristic soundstage (plus expensive at $7 million), it shows two of pop's biggest superstars venting their frustration about the media, lack of privacy, etc. There is even a line that says, "Stop ...with me/Make me wanna scream" Ouch! Did he really say that? Afraid so.

One of the greatest things about Michael Jackson is his versatility. Also I think his fame is a symptom of the strangeness that surrounds him. He's not going to be a "normal" person by the standards by which we measure others. And I think the fault of most people is that they try to look at him as being someone who should be logically accessible as well in our concepts of our own worlds. I really liked this cd and recommend this highly for the beats.

So, MJ is angry at the paparazzi, the general public for its criticism of his perceived unusual behavior, and an invasion of his privacy.

Michael, have you forgotten that you have spent your entire life in the public eye?
Michael, did you not know that fame has a price?
Michael, do you have to use the f-word so often on one version of "Scream"?

Michael, what do you think I wanted to do after shelling out fifteen bucks for "Invincible"?

I think I can SCREAM louder!

Fantastic comp by the musicians who set the bench mark. Great to hear these tunes on CD as the quality is exellent. This one includes some of the classics such as computer love, ooh baby baby and I want to be your man. My only disappointment is that it didnt include A thin line between love and hate with H-Town.

Great music, a mix of funk and soul thats just be so well put together you will be listening to this again and again.

back in the day Roger and Zapp always had the cuts. I mean you could Groove to his cuts. Roger tore up the voice box and it was real not the Autotune but the voice box. SO rough So tough, More Bounce to the Ounce, I want to be your Man, Computer Love(which Predated) the Internet diectly by a full decade and change.Roger was a tight Guitar Player and always had that feel Good soulful vibe in his work. RIP to Roger.

this collection will take you over this Great Musical genius career and the many styles and vibes that he did that made him a SuperStar. the slow jams, the fast jams, the anthems, and the songs that just showcase his versatility and depth as a All around Musical Force.these are songs that spoke to so many people all around the world.what a Incredible Career and what a Great creative force he has been. no matter what the musical climate there is always room for Michael Jackson and his impact is felt over almost everything you hear today.

The King still rules, but we want more

Undoubtedy Michael is the king, these songs are classic -- but in these days one bonus track is not enough to make people buy the album, especially if it is also released as a single. With HIStory at least we got a new album with new material. This album was made for three kind of people: 1) the fan who wants to own everything with his/her idol's name on it, 2) the beginner who has just come from Mars and MJ's music is completely new to them so wants to start with the better ones, 3) the average listener who is not a fan and wants to have only the better songs. Since I'm a fan but not a fanatic, I think if I buy the CD (I haven't decided about it yet) it will be only to show my support to Mike in these hard times.
The new song "One More Chance" is beautiful, everyone should buy at least the single. I guess I'll listen this song while I'm eagerly awaiting a NEW Michael Jackson album with new songs.

you can't talk the History of Music¬ Mention Michael Jackson as far as I'm concearned. the Man changed the game first as a member of the Jackson 5&then later as a Adult Solo Artist. He still is the Standard that so many are chasing. this collection of videos showcases not only hsi great music career through decades of creativity, but also showcases he is a Pioneer of Music Video. He is the M of MTV for my Money's worthy. he is the Marlon Brando aka GODFATHER of Music Video. you see a generic Cat like Justin Timberlake trying to do what MJ did oh 25 years back still along with Usher&others. MJ turned the Game out.

One crucial element that sets this apart from her debut Acoustic Soul a year earlier is that...somehow the sound is very much more fully formed in many ways. Wheras the sound of the debut generally emphasized the artists "naturalness" this blends India's "acoustic soul" sound with a array of soundscapes, many of which are as equally funky and soulful."Little Things" is an excellent example. It's groove, the heavy-on-easy style and unique chord changes could only come from the guy who produced her debut:Stevie Wonder.Just about all of the music here maintains his signiture writing style as well, even though India is more fully in charge of the production here. The lyrics are typically "power of positive thinking" but the wonderful thing about them is that India's great attitude and the sincerity and brilliance of her poetry really forgive any possibility for a clishe. Needless the say the moments when this album really catches fire are when the tempo goes up a little such as on the excellent "Slow Down","Can I Walk With You" and the bonus cut "Interested"-all rollicking soul tunes then endow her formula with a lot of rhythmic strengh. Of course that doesn't dismiss the respectful tone of "Talk To You","Complicated Melody" and "Headed In The Right Direction". The only song that confuses me a little here, where I love the lush music is "God Is Real". I realize the connection in the black community to Christianity runs deep and is significant but for the life of me I cannot tell if this song is advertising India's obvious Christian faith or if her intention is to point out that nature in itself is godly. Not being religious myself these kinds of ambiguous lyrics are always mildly curious to me. So while this album really serves mostly to establish that her huge success with the debut wasn't some kind of post millenium fluke this was really the last time, musically anyway India.Arie would have anything to prove.

India Arie is a very talented and gifted singer. She gives a great messege to those aspiring female singers out there that you don't have to show your body or get in trouble with the law in order to have a successful singing career. She sings of the everyday feels of females, without the drama.

She don't waste time with the weaves and expensive jeans and dresses to show that you can have a beautiful voice and spirit.

I love all her cds and music.
