When I first saw this movie I was 9. It was so incredible. Now I'm 19 and the movie is still my number 1. I watch it all the time. I only recently bought the soundtrack, but I love it so much! Its beautiful and enchanting. My favorite songs are "In the Dark of the Night" and "A Rumor in St. Petersburg". Absolutely fantastic. 5 stars.

Flashdance: Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture

Great music. This album has a history for me. I met a very overweight young woman who had to tend the family deli since her father was unwell.
The aspirations of the woman in the story became her mantra. My friend was motivated enough to start college in the little free time she had with the goal of a degree in marketing - her passion.

Remastered but cheated...

It sounds great but would it have killed the owners of the respective licences to include a select few bonus cuts, say Laura Branigan's GLORIA, which played a pivotal role in one of the film's scenes.

FAME and FOOTLOOSE (companion pieces to FLASHDANCE) were re-issued with additional tracks so what gives?

I own this movie and it remains one of my favorites to this day. I couldn't wait to get the soundtrack but it did disappoint. Many of the songs from the movie are on here but not all. Without Nancy Meyer's wonderful movie in tandem....this soundtrack can just be a lot of noise.

This is a sweet and lovely CD, light and uplifting, esp. the last song, La Vie En Rosa, which is sung by Jack Nicholson himself. The music is a little old style, but my grandaughter, who is 17 loves it. Also, I am able to sing along with the French songs, even though my French is very limited. Love this CD!

Every tune has a distinctive and catchy vibe: jazzy, dreamy, sometimes melancholy to the extreme, and insinuatingly romantic when it needs to be. You can close your eyes and feel characters in front on you. Honestly though, I couldn't remember EVERY track from when it was played on Grey's. It would have been nice for the soundtrack producers (Hollywood Records) to have included the episode detail (e.g. "season 2, ep. 4") for each track on the CD insert booklet. Having said that, Shondra Rhimes writes a clever and quirky letter in each of the 3 booklets. The photos inside, although limited, are well chosen to reflect key 'signifcant moments' for that particular season. And, value-wise, the 3-CD box set can't be beaten...seriously!

I wish The Hereafter's BACK WHERE I WAS was here.

Out of the 1000 songs on my i-pod, 1/3 of them are from Grey's. I just thought these CD's were missing some of the best songs such as:

How Am I Doing--Anna Waronker (Addison leaves Seattle Grace)
A Bitter Song--Butterfly Boucher (Meredith struggles not to drown)
Swans--Unkle Bob (Izzie and Denny touch)
Scratch--Kendall Payne
Gabriel and the Vagabond--Foy Vance
Sleep Don't Weep--Damien Rice (Meredith is unconscious in "Some Kind of Miracle")
To Build a Home--Patrick Watson
Breathe (2 AM)--Anna Nalick (Season two when bomb explodes, killing Dylan and throwing Meredith across hall)

I just thought those were key songs missing.

The Toxic Avenger was a cheesy cult movie produced by Troma, the cheesiest movie factory in New Jersey. Or anywhere else for that matter.

Melvin Ferd the third and a nerd is dumped into a barrel of toxic waste and becomes Toxie the green, gooey avenger of mankind or at least New Jersey. He rescues a young girl named Sarah from some goons and she falls madly in love with her saviour who she calls "My Big French Boyfriend". Toxie is smitten with Sarah and is thrilled someone cares for him despite his monsterous deformity and as he sings, "Thank God, She's Blind".

The music is rock-loud rock-noisy rock- but unfortunatly most of the tunes sound alike but coming to the rescue are the twisted, and very funny lyrics. With titles like "Get The Geek", "Hot Toxic Love" "Big Green Freak" "Choose Me, Oprah" or "Bitch/Slut/Liar/Whore" you shouldn't be expecting "My Fair Lady"-like songs.

The cast of five with the exception of Toxie and Sarah play multiple roles and Nancy Opel as the evil Mayor of Tromaville and others is a standout.

Newcomer, Nick Cordero as Toxie acquits himself quite well and he has a hilarious sob song "You Tore My Heart Out".

While I have reservations of the score as a whole I am sure they come across much better seen in the context of the performed show.

John du Prey - Classical Review

Linguistic irony abounds in this brilliant soundtrack. The Romans conquer the Germanic tribes in the Prologue to this motion picture; yet the major influences throughout Acts I, II, III and the Epilogue are, in fact, Latin-based and Germanic-influenced languages that work in silhouette to the musical score; Irish voices, Roman voices, Germanic voices, shades of antiquity, uplifting the fallen hero even as he drops to his knees before his crucified wife and son; shocking treatment of a commanding general's family (after he had led the Roman army to a victorious battle). Dramatic irony abounds throughout the score as well; partly because of the rich Irish-Latin-Germanic merge of songs, mournful chants, in-the-pit-of-death chords, compassionate voices (feminine, filled with empathy; con dolore), the conveyance of crescendo, decrescendo, diminuendo with the tongues of the vanquished; our hero had conquered the very people whose sorrowful tongues would mourn in Greek chorus the loss of his beloved wife and child; the Hans Zimmer score so laced with irony to render deep emotion.

In this redemption story, the chorus must echo the pain of the hero through voices that elevate the drama in its ascent through the first slaughter of the Germanic warriors, then through the second slaughter (above stated); if in mourning the chorus escorts the hero con grazia from his fallen state (he was dead with grief; then he was rescued; then he was glorified by gladiator feats), the voices of antiquity from many tongues with distinct, cultural nuances (history preserved) serve to uphold the magnificent instrumental orchestration (adhering to the Greek tragedian model) until our hero dies and joins his departed wife and son in the hereafter.

Powerful motion picture scores, like Gladiator, create the catharsis for the listener and for the viewer of the film: on many levels of classical accomplishment. We go back again and again to this movie, I think, because the soundtrack is superb; the epic tragedy is superior for its time; and our moments alone with the hero, Maximum Decimus Meridius, could leave an lasting impression on our psyche. This film was so honored because it truly was a masterpiece, in the tradition of Ben-Hur and the great composer Miklos Rozsa.

Wonderful soundtrack. You can definitely hear Klaus Badelt (Pirates of the Caribbean)in some of the tracks - so much so that it sounds a little "pirate-y". Badelt co-produced this with Zimmer and did some additional music and arranging. Interesting list of names in the thank you list: includes Harry Gregson-Williams (Narnia soundtracks) and John Powell (Bourne soundtracks). You can't lose with Zimmer.

Well played, well thought out and in posession of a number of moods this companion soundtrack to the blockbuster sand and sandal epic should be a good buy. Coming out early enough in the piece to avoid most of the audio compression problems so inherent with much mid 00's product it sees Hollywood film music legend Hans Zimmer collaborate with Lisa Gerrard (who was unfamiliar to me prior to this) and this first disc - there is another of further music - runs the gamut of the film's stages from beginning to end. And it must of sold some copies for them to have bothered to cobble together another `from or inspired by' disc at a later date.

The drama for me here is the lack of drama. For a film that had a number of moods but predominantly action and resigned pride and sadness, there is startlingly little bollocks to the music. The Battle (track 3) is at least lively but it fails to elicit any emotional response in the listener. There are passages that have some fire but even then it seems to be muted as if the composers were strangely gunshy. It certainly didn't inspire me to hit my play button too many times nor did it inspire me to throw the movie on.

I suppose the situation could best be summed up by the fact that when this movie came out and they needed some stirring music for the trailer they chose `Anvil of Crom' written by Basil Poledouris and used in the old film Conan The Barbarian. Not a good sign! There is some value here and I have a great deal of respect for Hans Zimmer but this is a fumble, without the movie to prop it up these sounds don't translate well.

There's nothing wrong with this album. If you didn't like the music from the movie, obviously you're not even going to consider buying the soundtrack. Watch the movie first. Then decide if the soundtrack is worth your money.

Based on the Tony-award-winning Broadway show of the same name, Hairspray comes through with most of its bouncy songs intact and some of its inside jokes being used. Though having little in common with the John Waters film, this one gives a new perspective to the race-relations story. All cast members do an outstanding job especially Nikki Blonski and John Travolta. The sound is well-engineered and performers are miked close enough to understand but not so close as to overwhelm the band. Look for the Easter Egg at the end of "Mamma I'm a Big Girl Now", which features all three ladies who have played Tracy. A fun one to have that is listenable more than once.

I have played this CD in my car as well as at home. Both my little girl and I enjoyed it so much that we played over 30 times. We like to dance with the songs and also like the classic sound track.

This soundtrack is simply enchanting. The movie was a funny sendup of Disney cliches, while also being a romantic story that relishes those same tried-and-true cliches.
The soundtrack has all of the songs from the movie, plus all of the music.
"Ever Ever After" is a great song and it's sung by Carrie Underwood who possesses a truly great voice.
But the highlight of the CD is the song "So Close" performed by Jon McLaughlin. It captures the heart of the movie with its heart-felt lyrics and beautiful melody.
The message of the movie is simple, really: All of the romantic happily-ever-after stuff IS a little silly, but we love it anyway. And what's wrong with that?

Loved the movie, Love the music

The title says it all. If you liked the movie and the music from the movie, then you will also like the soundtrack. If you found the music or the movie too cheesy, then you'll feel the same about the soundtrack. Since I am a romantic at heart, I love both the movie and the music.

Enchantment, the movie, is a very cute, funny, romantic and interesting twist on many well known fairy tales. Just when you think you've seen every adaptation of "rescue the princess", Disney comes up with one more and does it grand Disney style.

I don't know what I was expecting because the web page listed the songs on the CD but I didn't realize that over half are just the score. There are only five songs to sing along to. I guess I would have just bought them individually for five bucks instead of paying 12. But it's a good CD and my daughters really enjoy it.

Ok, now I think that Enchanted has a powerful instrumental soundtrack, and I admire that. Unfortunately, it can get a little too 'girly' a little too quickly, and that's where I have to draw my border between stepping into, well, non-guyish quality. I mean, I will admit...for guys, the album could go without 'Ever Ever After', and all the fluffy sung songs in the beginning, but I guess that's what made up Enchanted. As for the instrumental pieces, they were awesome.
